We visited the day after Halloween, so it was that interesting in-between season when the Halloween decorations were coming down and Christmas was already making its appearance. There was also construction underway, which meant ordering coffee and treats from an outdoor cart and then finding a table. I'm curious to see what the space will look like once all the construction is complete, and I would definitely come back to experience it again.
The setting itself is absolutely charming. The house is a beautiful Victorian, and as soon as you walk through the arbor, you're greeted by the soothing sounds of water fountains and lovely live guitar music playing throughout the garden. Since it was our first visit, we weren't quite sure where to go, so we wandered up the stairs and through the house, enjoying the beautiful and eclectic decor before eventually discovering that ordering took place at the coffee cart in the courtyard.
The courtyard was a lovely surprise! Lush greenery, numerous tables, and glowing torches created such a cozy atmosphere. A musician was happily playing his guitar in the corner while guests relaxed at their tables, enjoying coffee and treats. There were three or four employees busily preparing a variety of fall-inspired coffee drinks and pastries, and quite a line of customers waiting to order. Clearly, this is a popular little spot!
One small suggestion would be to have a menu board or printed menus available for guests while they're waiting in line. With quite a few people waiting, it would be helpful to have time to browse the offerings so everyone is ready to order when they reach the cart.
After a few minutes, it was finally our turn, and we took a moment to decide on our treats. We settled on a Phantom S'more Latte and Pumpkin Cinnamon Roll, along with a regular Latte and Lemon Loaf. We placed our order, found an adorable table in the courtyard (thankfully, there were still a few available!), and waited for our name to be called. Within a couple of minutes, our order arrived.
We were pleased how everything tasted, however, there was just one unexpected challenge: the resident bees were particularly interested in our sweet treats. I'm usually not bothered by bees, but this was more of a small swarm than an occasional visitor. We counted somewhere between 10-15 buzzing around our table, so we decided to relocate indoors. Thankfully, having the option to move inside was a nice alternative.
Overall, Ms. Marji's Cafe is a charming and cozy little escape, and a lovely place to enjoy a leisurely cup of coffee and something sweet. Between the beautiful Victorian setting, enchanting courtyard, fountains, and live music, there's a certain charm here that makes the experience about more than just the coffee.
I could also imagine this being a wonderful setting for an afternoon tea experience. I'm glad we finally made the visit, and I'm looking forward to returning once the construction is complete to see how everything comes together!
