We recently replaced all of our original carpeting with engineered hardwood ( over 1200 sq. ft. ). We had shopped around quite a bit to find the kind of flooring we wanted at a reasonable price. We finally struck gold when we went to Flooring 101 in Oxnard. Saul Munoz is the epitome of customer service. He showed us many options in the type of wood we were interested in, explained the installation methods and processes, and he himself came out within a day to do the measurements. During the installation, he popped in a couple of times to check on the progress and to monitor our satisfaction. The installation crew, headed up by "Pancho", did a truly professional job. They worked long days to get our flooring done in the shortest possible time. The job was complicated due to matching existing wood flooring, and change of direction in the layout for appearance reasons. The crew cleaned as they went, and worked around heavy furniture that could not be relocated due to rainy weather. Worst experience with a contractor or subcontractor I have ever had! In 2018, I purchased flooring through Costco who used Flooring 101 as the contractor. Within 6 months, I began noticing cracked floorboards and separating amongst the floor. I contacted Flooring 101 via email and phone, but they did not respond. In January of 2021, the flooring had deteriorated to a point that could no longer be ignored. After many calls and emails, Flooring 101 sent an independent inspector to my home to determine the cause of the problem. Flooring 101 has not contacted me to discuss the results of the inspection despite countless calls and emails. I am disgusted that Flooring 101 has taken advantage of me in this way and will not take responsibility for either filing a report with the the manufacturer or remedying the situation. Regardless, their unprofessionalism and disregard for customer care after they have been paid is despicable. read more

I was very dissatisfied with Flooring 101. We contracted them to do a large project and replace the majority of the flooring in our home. The floors were installed fine. However, we quickly learned that the new flooring blocked both our front door and bathroom door from closing completely. Also, they had to remove and reinstall the dryer and managed to break the hose components in the process. It took over three weeks of them avoiding our calls and texts to finally get someone to reluctantly come in and fix the doors. Three weeks is a long time to use the bathroom with a partially open door. And of course they arrived late. In addition, they refused to fix the dryer connection, which they broke and, because the front door was grinding against the floor for three weeks, the door was badly damaged, which they also refused to repair. If you're looking for a professional for a flooring project, find someone who takes pride in their workmanship and ownership for their mistakes, not Flooring 101. read more

I purchased the flooring through Costco. You would think that if you had a Costco contract that you would treat the customers like royalty. The flooring I purchased was represented from the salesman "Almost Bulletproof". I have to keep purchasing floor pads for any item that is in touch with the floor or it scratches immediately which I find to be ridiculous. The day that the crew came for the installation, the first thing from an obese installer asked if he could use the restroom. He did a #2 and somehow he got it all over the seat, the toilet, floor and the outside of the bathtub next to the toilet. There were 4 installers in all and I had a garage fridge that was full of drinks, I told them to help themselves to the waters. I also offered a Starbucks drink 1 for each. They drank a full case of the Starbucks and almost emptied the fridge. I was trying to stay out of their way, so I stayed in my bedroom almost all day. The salesman explained that they could install this synthetic vinyl wood planks. There were about 6 loose tiles that I showed the installer boss and they were supposed to put an adhesive below them prior to installing the floor. They skipped that step, so now in several places there is popping every time you step on the sections. I was not aware of anything that they were doing because I was in my bedroom Around 11 A.M. I went downstairs and ask them if they would like me to get them a Costco pizza. They said yes and also some hot dogs. When I returned home I found one of the installers going through me kitchen fridge. I considered that an invasion of privacy. Since I had not been watching them who knows what else of mine they went through? When they were finished, everything was going so fast with 3 installers packing up their tools and the other one having me sign the documents. Which if I understood what I was signing I never would have signed anything. I was told from the sales rep that they would put everything back how it was when they arrived. They piled everything into the living room and left it like that. I am a 100% disabled veteran and I have very bad arthritis and I suffer from PTSD. I had to get my son to come over to help me move everything back in place. I noticed they dented the corner of my kithen freezer door. When I went outside in my driveway and front yard was trash everywhere, including empty bottles, paper plates, empty pepper and cheese packets, cigarette butts, nails and a ton of cuttings from the flooring. I didn't notice the condition of the bathroom until the next morning. I called Costco's corporate office and I made them aware of this. This has been going on for almost 6 months now and the last time a different installer came to what I thought was to fix everything he had only fix several spots of the corner molding that was installed incorrectly. After he did the corner molding he went to his vehicle to get a document. This document stated that they were done with the installation and that I was satisfied with everything to include a $50 check to reimburse me for the toilet seat and that they were not going to fix my freezer door. When I refused to sign, the tech would not allow me to keep a copy of the document or allow me to take a picture of it. I feel that this was extortion for me to sign a false document. Because I refused to sign it the tech told me that he didn't have the proper tools to fix my floor properly. Which I know was a lie because he had previously repaired 1 tile and he only used a small pry bar and a putty knife, he was holding the pry bar in his hand and I was promised from Costco's senior corporate management that he was going to repair everything. Flooring 101 had no intention to complete the installation. This floor supposedly has a lifetime warranty. It appears not through Costco or Flooring 101! This floor is horrible and should not be sold! On a daily basis some tile will buckle to a point that both corners are sticking upwards. It is super sensitive to scratching. I cannot keep replacing the felt pads every week as needed. Costco is asking me to deal with them directly to resolve this. This will not work with Flooring 101 because they have made so many false promises and when the tech left because I wouldn't sign a misleading statement tells me that there is no warranty. Costco has offered me $1850 in compensation for the toilet, the freezer door and for me to deal with them directly. I will never use Costco's services again and I highly recommend you seek flooring elsewhere. I used Costco Flooring rather than Lowe's which would have been cheaper. I was trying to avoid having any problems. read more

Fantastic Experience! We worked with Harry from the Oxnard store. I commend them on sticking to schedule even with a few unexpected interruptions (heavy rain, 9x9 asbestos tiles under our carpet). It's easy to give a great review when everything goes right. It means more when there was a problem. We ordered a new wood floor and carpeting from Flooring 101 through Costco. We chose the wood from a sample. When 35 boxes of wood were delivered for the install, it really wasn't right for the house. Harry Harmandjian jumped right in to save the day. Their only concern was that we be happy when the job was done. They took back what we didn't like, and expedited delivery of a replacement. They were able to get over this bump in the road while only delaying the install by a few days. Superb customer service and genuine concern for their customers. This is my third interaction with Flooring 101, having had them do a light blue carpet upstairs and downstairs when I first moved in, and then redo the downstairs after a pipe burst. After three years, and a few tenant pets, we decided to try hardwood everywhere and a thicker grey carpet in the bedrooms. Jereme, at this point a family friend, was again a pleasure to work with and brought samples right to our house when we got home from work. He ordered everything the next day and had a team of nine come to the house to get the job right the first time. Due to the complex nature of our house, they had three specialists return the next day, a Saturday at that, to ensure fit and finish to completion. This was the worst experience I have ever had with any company. We ordered luxury vinyl floors due to a recommendation from the salesman that came to our house (We were originally in the market for real wood). The selling point for the vinyl was that it could be installed over an existing tile floor without any demolition. We questioned that there was no floor prep involved (leveling the surface before laying the luxury vinyl) but we were assured that this was the benefit of installing this kind of flooring. This turned out to not be true but it was only the beginning of our problems with flooring 101. We were told that the installation would take 1-2 days but at the end of the first day, it was discovered that the salesman James did not measure correctly and did not order enough of the flooring and they had to reorder more. We had to wait two more weeks for them to get the floor and come back to install it. Immediately after the first day of installation, we could tell something was wrong, the floor was not laying flat over our existing floor and you could see it visibly moving as well as hearing every step. It felt like walking on cardboard. We reported this to flooring 101 and they made the excuse that the floor needed to "settle". The floor never settled and we called and called flooring 101 to come back and deal with this and they kept trying to ignore us. Luckily we had bought this floor thru the Costco program and this is probably the only reason why they eventually came back. Now once Flooring 101 realized they had to choice to fix this, they insisted that we had to pay more for taking up the floor they put in and leveling the floor (the exact concern we were assured would not be an issue when we signed the contract for the job) and that they could not tell us how much it would cost. Faced with the choice of suing or paying extra for the leveling, we reluctantly agreed, their sales man thought that it would be $200-$300, but it turned into $3,000. They didn't advise us of this cost until they took up the floor they installed, took a hammer and broke the original tile floor underneath (this was to start the process of the leveling but it was also past the time we could have made a decision to refuse the work). The only bright spot in this ordeal was Costco. If Costco wasn't involved, I am certain that Ian and Flooring 101 would have forced us to sue them for a refund. Costco refused to let them off the hook and they paid us back for most of the extra work that we originally had to pay for. In the end, this project took 7 months to complete (instead of 1-2 days as promised) and went 40% over the contracted price. It took countless hours on the phone to track them down and Ian always tried to blame someone else. Ian even lied to Costco telling them that we wanted the cheapest floors possible because we were selling our house (completely made up lie). I would take note of the pattern in the reviews on yelp for this company to see that we weren't the only ones that were overcharged and lied to. Don't waste your time with these fools. read more

Update on this place: noticed the installers had me sign someone elses purchase order. 3 days later no one has contacted me to correct the mistake. Started to move furniture back into the room, and noticed all the brand new base boards are nicked up. Surprised CostCo would work with this place. Poor customer service and sloppy work. read more

I happened to pop in the shop because I had a picture of two carpets that were specialized that I wanted to see. He immediately tracked down the manufacture/distributor of the products. Had 2 decent size samples sent to my home. In the meantime he sent out a person to measure and provided us the cost for product and install. Flooring 1 and DONE! I don't normally leave reviews--good or bad, but I felt compelled to share our experience with this company. I'd leave NO STARS if it would have let me. To try and keep this as brief as possible--we recommend to anyone thinking of using this company to think twice. After a long search we chose them initially because they are so well established in the area and they have a great selection of product to choose from. We initially were going to have our floors installed by a contractor we use, but changed our mind after the order for material was placed. This is where the POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE comes into play. The initial sales person we had came to measure and quote our install. The quote on the phone was $1,300 less than the one we FINALLY got via e-mail. At this point--we never got another call from ANYONE at Flooring 1-and-DONE again. We had to call them for confirmation that the material was in AND the install date all of which was never confirmed until the day before they wanted to come and install. Then--we find out other issues about our install that should have been resolved prior to ordering material. At this point--the flooring that was installed went well enough--their installers did do a good job. We've since gone though 5 sales people and it's been over 8 weeks since this all started. Even the owner got involved to try and clear up our install issues and now even he has washed his hands of us. I made the mistake of paying the balance IN FULL after the owner came to our home to try and finish things off. They still owe us some trim pieces which now appears to be something I'll have to try and order from another flooring company. After 3 weeks of calling them for this missing trim--I realize now we have been black-balled or something. I see I'm not the only one who has had their entire staff BLOW THEM OFF. While the end result was ok, getting there was a nightmare. I had a problem with the installation of the stairs with a vinyl laminate floor. The product was not what I had asked for. That can happen. I scheduled 3 installations, asked them to call me to confirm the time 24 hrs before, because I live 75 miles away. They DID NOT. I wasted one trip up there. I would have made 3 more trips for nothing if I had not called them the morning of each rescheduled time to confirm. They had an excuse for why they weren't going to be able to install each of the 3 times. I told them I lived 75 miles away. All I asked for was a confirmation call 24 hours in advance. They promised return calls and didn't follow through. Even Jereme who had been consciencous when I was ordering the flooring dropped the ball. The manager of the Installation team, Johnny, dropped the ball, when I arrived in person to try to get this resolved, Ian the "big manager" was "in a meeting" and would call me back. He didn't. Only Roland who picked up the phone the day before my last scheduled time, followed up. I WAS NOT on the schedule for the next day. Roland called the installer, called me back, asked if I could have him come earlier than the scheduled time (which I agreed to) and they finished the installation. This took 6 weeks. Just for the stairs. If you do decide to use them, DO NOT pay in full. My only recourse was that I owed them $5000. read more

These guys are the worst I have ever seen. The installer would leave at the smallest difficulty and I would have to get someone else to fix it for him, like a small hole in the wall. Showed up without warning to start. Left the tenants without a bathroom several times. Did not install the underlayment at all just put floor on the plywood. Left 3/4 in gap in corners of rubber coving. Toilet rocks because floor is not flat. Company was very rude and did not correct the installers shoddy work. read more

Horrible experience. We bought from Oxnard store. We carpeted the entire house;3 bedrooms,family rm, dining/living room. The installers took over 12 hours, with most of the afternoon an extended smoke break. We removed everything from the house, except two beds, two couches, loveseat, and desk. The installer gave me a hard time about the desk! Two problem areas; a distinct line where the roll sat too long and formed a crease. The other larger problem was a 2 ft.wide length along the entire dining room-living room which was not the same color, and a distinct line also. The manufacturers sent out two techs and recolored the section. Better, but not good. The crease still the same. We were quoted one price in the store, and then an additional $500 tacked on after a questionable remeasure. The entire square footage of our house, including garage is 1705. He remeasured to over 1,300 sq.ft. I remeasured twice at 1,100sq.ft. They were not willing to offer a discount for the inconvenience and hassle. The carpet with the crease never should have been installed. The piece with mismatch color should have been immediately replaced. Now we sit a month later with horrible looking carpet, and paying full price, only to look forward to more claims with the manufacturer. Go somewhere else to get carpet! read more

We have been planning to put new flooring in our home and didn't know much about cost or the different flooring material available. We made the initial call and Roman helped explained the process and options available. Roman scheduled Sebastian their estimator to visit us and take measurements to give us an accurate estimate based on the materials we discussed over the phone. We went to their warehouse showroom to see the material that the estimate was based on. We were impressed by the various flooring options. We went back the following week to put down a deposit and schedule installation. Since we have pets we went from the original moisture resistant laminate we selected and upgraded to a waterproof vinyl wood like flooring. Saul helped us on our second visit and after upgrading to the vinyl we were confident we made the right choice. Both Roman and Saul are knowledgeable, personable and very professional. On the scheduled day Julio the installer showed up promptly in the time window that was scheduled. I asked Julio when the rest of the installation team was showing up to remove the old flooring and install the new flooring. It was shocking at first it was only 1 installer. Due to the installation and size of the rooms he assured me only 1 installer would be sufficient. He made a believer out of me. He was efficient, professional and joyful as he installed the flooring and trim. I would rate him more as a craftsman than an installer. He worked through the day until he had completed the entire project in a matter of hours. The paid attention to detail and we couldn't be more satisfied with the entire experience. Great experience with flooring 101! We went in to discuss putting hardwood floors into a house that we were buying and Roman went over all options with us and introduced us to an incredible vinyl plank that you would swear was wood (republic flooring, great Oregon oak). We hadn't considered vinyl, but given that we have two little kids, I'm so glad he showed it to us. I felt that their prices very fair, and they were very accommodating as we had to reschedule a couple times due to other construction issues at the house. When we were finally ready, they scheduled us right away and we worked with Javier for installation. He was so kind and accommodating - we still had other people working in the house finishing up projects that were supposed to be completed prior to installation of the floors and Javier totally worked around them without a problem. He also fixed a serious issue we had with our floor sloping. We were told that putting anything but carpet in a certain area would not be a good idea due to the sloping, but we asked Javier to take a chance to see if we could do it. He came up with a patch for the situation and you would now never know there was an issue in that area! Everything looks fantastic and they left everything clean. They also did a great job removing our tile floors. It's only been a few weeks, but my kids have spilled liquids, colored with crayons on the floor, dragged mud in, and played with their toys all over the place and everything just wipes right up without an issue! I called last week to make an appointment for today at 3:00pm, as I was told this was the latest they can come out and give me a quote. I took a couple hours off of work to meet them. They never showed up, or called. I called them at 4pm and was told I made an appointment for 4:30pm. Not the case, as I was told 3pm was the latest. After being told the estimator was at a call and would be on his way to my house next, I gave them the benefit of the doubt. They never showed up or called me.
