I was waiting and calling and calling - it was very frustrating! It seems that nobody was able to reach the delivery crew to tell me what is going on. In the end, at about 5 pm they told me that the truck broke down and the delivery is rescheduled for the next day. Today is the next day - and the story is the same. The office is not picking up my calls and I do not know where my cabinets are. Meanwhile, I have contractors at my place ready to start the work. This is so frustrating!!! All I am asking is to communicate to me what is going on, so that I could plan accordingly.

A bit of background on our project: Beau dragged our kitchen from the 70s - no range vent, Formica countertops that buckled with the slightest pressure, cupboard doors that didn't fully close, to name a few issues - into the modern era.  This was a complete demolition, down to the studs, and rebuild.  Along the way, he removed an old chimney that ran from our basement, through the first floor, and into the attic; upgraded our hot water heater, and most of our old, galvanized plumbing; updated our electrical panel and removed a lot of knob-and-tube wiring; and widened our back door.  He had a clear understanding of what he could and could not do, and, for the latter, he had subcontractors lined up and ready to do the work.  Beau, his crew, and the subcontractors I interacted with, were all extremely pleasant, polite, helpful, and fun.  They were very nice to (and tolerant of) our pets, and did everything they could to make the process as unintrusive as possible.  They went above and beyond in so many ways, it's impossible to remember them all.  At the end of the project, the work was done as expected, was top-notch, and as much as we were glad to have the kitchen back, it was sad to see them go.

The company is tech savvy and are happy to correspond electronically, they even have an app for sharing project progress and pictures. Not only were they professional when it came to COVID regulations, they also left the worksite constantly clean. Like actually clean. Basically as they were demoing, I could hear the vacuum running almost simultaneously. They laid out special cardboard to protect the floors and also were mindful of the cabinets that were previously painted. Finally they were really great about letting us know immediately if any changes to the plan needed to happen. 10/10 would go with them for any kitchen or bath remodel moving forward. Loved their work and them as a company. Work they did: lower center island to one height, moving the outlets on the island, new sink and fixture, new countertops and backsplash.

TASK: Remove existing backsplash and countertop and install a new backsplash and countertop…read more PROBLEM 1: NEITHER THE DEMOLITION CREW NOR THE INSTALLATION CREW WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR PREPPING THE COUNTERTOPS. Nothing was covered. All contents of the drawers were contaminated by demolition materials. In addition, during the demolition, the underlayment of the countertops was damaged. As stated in the contract, this was not to be addressed by Granite and Marble Specialists (GMS). Once the island countertop was removed, you could see that a heavy layer of glue remained on the underlay. The installers said that that was not their responsibility. They installed the countertop over the uneven underlayment of the residual glue. This meant that there were up to 1/2 inch gaps between the counter and the underlayment, stretching a span of 108.5 inches. Over time, this will lead to instability and breakage of the stone. The installers forged ahead and installed the new countertop independent of the gaps. The installers were adamant that they had installed the island countertop to level. RESULT: We had to remove the new countertop and have the surface sanded to level before having them reinstall the countertop. PROBLEM 2: NEITHER THE DEMOLITION CREW NOR THE INSTALLATION CREW WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR PREPPING THE BLACKSPLASH AFTER DEMOLITION. This meant that it was the homeowner's responsibility to install drywall and to make sure that the backsplash was level. The backsplash was 1.5 inches unlevel from one end of the backsplash to the other. Thus, in addition to the provision of drywall because the existing drywall was damaged during demolition, we had to shim the drywall to ensure the backsplash was level for the backsplash installation. RESULT: We had to go buy wood, cut it to the specific dimensions and install the new underlayment for the backsplash. IN SUM: GMS provided what the contract stated, an installed countertop and backsplash. It was not stated in the contract that it be level or that it be level to the degree that it was level prior to the new installation. The installers showed it to be level because the countertop was 108.5 inches long X 46 inches wide X 3cm deep. So, BEWARE. If this is the type of installation you are looking for, this is the organization for you.

My agent and I both had to drive in 50 minutes of traffic. We got to the house on time but had to wait for her. She was pretty cold and spoke just a few words during the meeting. There were some frustrating incidents and arguments during the cabinet installation that could have been completely avoid. Overall I was barely satisfied. I had to push very hard to get some of the quality issues fixed and it involved multiple trips. I will do much more research next time before I pay someone to do any work in my house again.
