The Flood City cafe was a yummy and delightful brunch experience. The coffee was fresh and hot on a chilly Fall morning. Complete with complimentary refills! Our breakfast /lunch sandwiches were delicious and terrific hot soup was a treat. Kristy , the owner , was so helpful. She even ran out to put an extra quarter in the meter right after our food came out when we asked if we'd actually get a ticket. Whewww. A real gem in the city. read more

My husband and I had lunch here today. It was terrific! My husband had a Dagwood sandwich which was so large he couldn't finish it. I had a chicken wrap. Both were yummy. Also we each had a cup of the house blend coffee. It was delicious! Their muffins were too tempting. We shared one with chocolate chips. The staff was super friendly. The decor in the cafe was very inviting. Today we ate outside on the front porch because we had our dog with us. He was given a couple of dog biscuits and a nice bowl of water. Having spent the year traveling the country, large cities and small towns, I was rather taken back by Flood City Cafe. This is not the type of coffee/panini shop you'd expect to find in a large city - it's better. The first thing that strikes you is the ambiance. Two story tall ceiling, gentle but adequate lighting, open floor plan, not crowded allowing plenty of room to walk as well as sit. There is second level to the cafe with four leather chairs for lounging, reading, sipping on coffee, or whathaveyou. A dedicated stage for live music that fits comfortably into a recess in the room. The menu is pretty decent. Serving breakfast, sandwiches, salad, paninis, soup and other sides. Menu is akin panera bread. They also have bagals, cakes, muffins and other pastries from a local bakery. This is probably the best coffee shop in the Somerset/Cambria County area. The staff is friendly, and they have every flavor imaginable. Lavender may sound weird for coffee, but if you haven't had it, go try it! They have quality espresso, which is huge. Compared to fast-food places like Dunkin, Starbucks, etc., you cant get much better. Definitely stop in! I was gonna take a picture of my latte, but it was gone in seconds. Great food and great vibes! My husband and I had a late dinner at Flood City and loved it. From its convenient location near our hotel to the friendly and warm waitstaff, it is a winner. We started with the veggie spring rolls, filled with fresh veggies, cooked with a soft and crisp exterior, and drizzled with a delicious sauce. They satisfied both the vegan (him) and the omnivore (me). For dinner, we each had a ramen bowl--spicy veggie for him and duck for me. It was the perfect meal for a chilly and rainy spring evening. Both broths were packed with complex flavor and filled with plump veggies and chewy noodles. I love this place! The coffee is excellent - I grind and brew my own at home, so I'm a little bit picky - but this coffee is outstanding! When I come for breakfast, I get half of a "breakfast mess," because I can't finish a whole one. They fill a plate with potatoes, bacon, eggs, sausage and cheese - onions too I think, but I don't get those - if you need a hearty breakfast like they used to eat on the farm, this is it. If you're eating on the lighter side - try a smoothie bowl - they're a new addition from the new owner! It's a yogurt smoothie in a bowl with fruit on top - so so good on a warm day! (Or on a cold day, if you're sick of casseroles.) My favorite bite for lunch is the Hawaiian panini - I order it as a wrap, and it has ham, cheese, pineapple and pesto - wow, is that good! You also can't go wrong with the Smoky Mountain Turkey sandwich or the Pizzanini. All in all - a warm and friendly place to meet friends, catch live music, study after the lunch rush - whatever you've got going on. (If you're in a hurry, call ahead and use the drive-thru!) I'm so happy to see a place like this in downtown Johnstown. It's right next to Coney Island which was a nice surprise as the building had been empty for quite some time. It has a modern vibe to it and there's a stage where people play in the evenings. The cafe mocha was superb! The Blt was soooo on point! The bacon was crispy and everything was fresh. We were visiting Johnstown to attend an event and found ourselves starving by late afternoon. I hopped on Yelp and noticed that this place had 5 stars so we decided to check it out. We both found the decor attractive, there's plenty of options on where to sit to enjoy a sandwich, and the staff is very friendly. The only drawback was the lack of parking nearby. We circled the block a couple of times before my friend dropped me off so he could park farther away from the cafe. We both ordered sandwiches with sides of Mac & cheese. The Mac & Cheese reminds me of melted velvetta over macaroni noodles. While my nephews LOVE that version of Mac & Cheese, it's not high on my list. Still, the "cup" portion ($2) was more than enough to be a side dish and I'm sure many people would like the flavor. My friend ordered the Double Dagwood ($7) and loved it. It was HUGE but he was starving so that was a great match. I had the Italian panini ($5) and truly enjoyed it. We both felt that our sandwiches had ample meat & cheese so we felt the prices were more than fair. We were too full for dessert but they had many options and they looked sooo good! The lattes are always spot-on, the coffees are well balanced and great without tons of cream and sugar, and the new teas are a welcome and rare treat here in Johnstown- and also completely delicious. Overall the food tastes great and I LOVE the pear-apple sauce. I will say that I'm not a fan of the tomato bisque, it's a little sweet for the deliciously cheesy sandwich you're sure to order along with it. The cafe features specials throughout the seasons, meaning their is always something new to try. The best thing about Flood City Cafe is the friendly, easy-going staff and the cozy but spacious environment. I had a Cobb salad, and the bacon and chicken were fresh and cooked on the spot. The atmosphere is exactly what you want in a coffee shop ...
