Ended up here before a concert at the War Memorial because we couldn't get into our first choice, Scott's by Dam. We didn't have a reservation but they were able to seat us after a few minutes. The hostess mentioned that service would be faster if we chose the buffet since we told her we were going to the concert. We arrived at 5:30 and the concert was at 7:00 so we thought we had plenty of time. We ordered cocktails and our food at the same time. I opted for the buffet, which I could access immediately, and my friend chose a Caesar salad and a cup of soup. We waited about 20 minutes for the drinks to come and thought maybe they'd bring her food at the same time. But that didn't arrive until 6:20. For a cup of soup that they scooped out of a pot and a simple salad. Unfortunately the salad was inedible when it came because the romaine was limp and drenched in dressing. To their credit, when my friend pointed out that she couldn't eat it, the server immediately offered to take it off the check. We eventually got out of the restaurant at 6:45 with enough time for our 5 minute walk to the venue. The buffet was okay, nothing stellar. I knew going in that buffets aren't going to be as good as off the menu items, but I took a look at it before I ordered and thought it would be ok. It was only $17, so it was not a expensive gamble. Nice salad greens tossed with Cucumber, tomato and red onions plus some pickled red cabbage as a topper. Hot foods were mashed potatoes and gravy, fried chicken , Swedish Meatballs, and mixed sautéed vegetables. It was all good tasting and I was satisfied with it, just not wowed. My friend thought the soup was more French Onion than French mushroom. But she liked the ooey gooey cheese on top. Our cocktails were from the seasonal menu and were probably the best part of our meals. I had a Harvest Star and she had a Pilgrims Punch. Mine was bourbon based and hers, tequila. And for $7.00 very well priced. Because of the lag in service and the poor quality of the Caesar salad, I am rating this a 3 star experience. The restaurant itself was clean and comfortable. Dunno if this place is good because as with several other supposedly late night restaurants, their posted hours don't match and the kitchen closed 1.5 hours earlier than advertised. There is legitimately nowhere to get food in this town after 9:30. I had to go 15 minutes away to find anything. The bartender was awesome and friendly and helpful. But as pretty much the only option at night - and attached to the Holiday Inn - they really need to honor their online hours. It's lousy for guests who are counting on them. read more

I go to Harrigans for business lunches. The food is delicious and the wine options are abundant. Staff is attentive and helpful. Very pleasant place for business meetings. I especially appreciate their appetizers for business meetings because they are very shareable when you have 4+ people at your table. The only improvement would be prices. HORRIBLE Sunday breakfast buffet ($16.95!!!). VERY small selection of food on buffet. No option to order off menu...not even toast!!!! The buffet served only scrambled eggs, diced potatoes, small pieces of ham in water, sausage gravy & biscuits, pancakes, cut up melons, store made muffins & yogurt. I'm actually embarrassed that I took my out of town guests there for breakfast. The brunch at Harrigan's, in the past, was always wonderful. We really should have left but my guests wanted to get on the road. The atmosphere & our waitress was the only good thing about this experience. However, other servers made sure to remind us,three times, the restaurant was closing at 11am...(even though it was only 10am). Just a bad experience overall. Would never recommend!! read more

Came here for a wedding as it's attached to a Holiday Inn, and the food was pretty good. Ordered a salmon salad and eventually ordered a pepperoni pizza for the table for a little night cap. The salad was good. I liked that they didn't put the dressing on for you. They brought it out in its own separate cup. The salmon was cooked well, where the salmon kind of fell apart when you broke into it with your fork. The only negative was the pizza seemed like it was a frozen pizza. I know my pizzas and it just didn't have the consistency of a homemade pizza. Oh well, can't always be perfect. I would recommend the salad, I would not recommend the pizza. read more

Unfortunately, they only get three stores from me because we called at 8 o'clock to find out what time they were open till they said they were only open till nine that evening because they were doing a computer update. So we got there at about 815 they refused to serve us because they were closing at nine bad business, especially for hotel guests, although I must say we did order hamburgers to go and they were absolutely amazing. The restaurant itself is pretty. It needs a little bit of updating the ceiling tiles in the atrium area. Look like the water is leaking in and pulling the paper off the ceiling. read more

Just had an elegant, yet affordable luncheon here with some of my female colleagues - they all thanked me for choosing Harrigan's! We went for Friday lunch and couldn't believe that such a fancy place would have a $10 seafood buffet! We enjoyed a fresh salad bar with bread, buttery clam chowder, slender green beans, baked cod, battered pollock, and a Gulf boil with shrimp, potatoes, corn, and crayfish/crawdads/mudbugs/whatever you call them. Some kind of freshwater decapod. Everything was tasty, and the staff was friendly - they even kept the buffet up a bit longer for us. We will certainly be back when our rotation puts us back in the Johnstown area! read more

Our table was perfectly situated one level up and off from the semi open lounge and piano bar. Our young and very personable, good looking waiter Jonathan, who comes from Delaware and ended up in Johnstown when his father's job transferred him, was everything a server should be. He was very knowledgeable of the wines and bar menu, he was able to advise us as to what were some of the better choices from the dinner menu. He was attentive, charming, right on cue and his bright white smile, jet black hair and blue eyes could launch any ones heart into returning just to enjoy his service again. They have an extensive martini and cocktail menu, my sister in law had a Cosmopolitan and I had a Dirty Martini, both of these were served in a very large chilled cocktail glass. They were seven dollars and change each and were 99% alcohol, powerful stuff and it made me realize once again how weak and over priced the drinks are in the area in which I live. My brother in law had a glass of Shiraz while my sister in law had a Seven Daughter's Syrah blend from California and I had an Italian chardonnay; Pio Cesare L'Altro Piedmont 2007. We were all very pleased with Jonathan's recommendations and he was even kind enough to write them down for us. Harrigan's' has a new tapas menu and it is the only one in town. We were all very excited about this, even though Jonathan was trying to tell us that for sharing we should consider ordering appetizers from the restaurant menu instead, we chose to go with the tapas menu anyway. You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make them drink. Our choices to share were the garlic shrimp which were five large "sauteed shrimp in a garlic olive oil, chipolte peppers and deglazed with brandy". Not even close, they were very bland with none of the flavors coming through and it was almost like they had quickly poached cocktail shrimp. The marinated sirloin beef and manchego cheese were both dry and uneventful. Last we had the crispy breaded white anchovies that were over fried and to the point where no anchovy taste came through at all, a very small portion. The tapas were only served with a basket of rolls but we all agreed they were some of the best rolls we ever had and I enjoyed spreading the roasted garlic on mine. I would love to have the recipe for those rolls. I was still stuffed from lunch and the tapas with two rolls pretty well filled me. The stiff over sized cocktail followed by the glass of wine wasn't helping, plus Jonathan had brought me another full glass of wine that he thought I might like, three of us each had one sip and left the rest sit. I don't think any of us can drink the way we used to. I had a bowl of the lobster bisque with tarragon essence for my entree, which was a large portion and quite good along with another roll I was happy. Hubby had the filet mignon and said it was one of the best steaks he has ever had and he normally does not order filet. My brother in law had the Chef's Veal ravioli of the day and raved about them. My sister in law had the shrimp and crab newburg with mushrooms and gruyere cheese, I got to sample the newburg and it was prepared differently than I have ever seen, it was loaded with shrimp and crab, not heavy at all on the sauce and cheese and it was outstanding. They had dessert and I snitched bites, I was still finishing my drinks and bisque. They ordered the pear cheesecake with homemade apple cinnamon ice cream, you know the pear cheesecake was good, but very subtle in pear flavor, the apple cinnamon ice cream was outrageous. I have a feeling my taste buds were drunk, the carrot cake was exactly the way I like it and the peanut butter and cream cheese pie was my favorite. I give Jonathan five big stars, I give the restaurant and it's menu four to five stars as well as the awesome wine list and the amazingly large potent cocktails. The food is fabulous, but skip the tapas here folks, it is not their forte. read more

If this was the fifties or sixties you would expect everyone to be elegantly attired in this stunning dining room with attached bar. Back then that was true as this a very old but recently remodeled hotel. Today everyone is dressed in everything from a business suit to jeans and a t-shirt but they are still enjoying the wonderful atmosphere. So a few days ago I was the typical weary traveler that just checked in and was checking out the happy hour bar scene. I sat at the beautiful bar and ordered a moderately priced drink. I was interested in a light dinner so the competent bartender suggested something from the small plates menu and a salad might be appropriate. I began by choosing the Olive Tapenade - with garlic, tomato, fresh herbs and parmesan crostini for $9. It was beyond excellent and beautifully plated. The crostini was served warm and the portion was substantial. Next I ordered the Marinated Steak Salad - which came with grilled steak, romaine, tomatoes, onions and cucumbers for $14. It was delicious and so large that I couldn't finish it. Those two dishes comprised an excellent meal. The next night I stopped in later in the evening and enjoyed a pianist beautifully playing lite rock standards. This venue is a nice change from the typical gastro pub scene that is so common these days and well worth a visit. read more

Harrigan's is the restaurant/bar inside the Holiday Inn Johnstown. I stayed at the Holiday Inn recently when I was in town for a wedding and had a chance to visit Harrigan's. For any of those who know me - I typically try to avoid hotel restaurants at all costs. But, when we got back to the hotel after the reception on Saturday night - we were looking for something to do and we really didn't know the area so we went down to Harrigan's. We grabbed a couple of seats at the bar and were greeted by Tara who a fantastic bar-tender/waitress. She was very personable and pleasant and had a very positive outlook. My wife was looking at the cocktail menu (which was a bit over-priced) when Tara volunteered that she could make my wife a "strawberry" based cocktail that wasn't on the menu and was less expensive than what was on the menu. It was excellent and my wife really enjoyed it. We ordered a smoked salmon pizzette from the menu and it was also exceptionally good. There was another gal working at the bar (I didn't get her name) but she was also very professional and personable. The next morning, we went back to Harrigan's for the breakfast buffet. It was decent and was reasonably priced at $9.95. The scrambled eggs, sausage and bacon were all well prepared although the french toast and the breakfast potatoes was less than great. They also had a nice bowl of cut-up fresh fruit. The buffet price includes coffee and juice which makes it sort of a bargain since the coffee and juice are both several dollars each when ordered off the menu. Service at breakfast was also solid - although it was limited to coffee and juice service and the clearing of plates, etc. When in Johnstown again - I'd go back to Harrigan's. read more

Trust me I'm one to roll my eyes when it comes to buffet style dinner but this is one exception where i bee-line straight through the crowds to get my grub on.!!!!!! Harrigan's is one of the classiest restaurant/ bars in Johnstown. I have heard about their grand buffet every Mother's Day which is tradition for some but again discouraged from the " buffet " stigma!!!! Glad i did it!!!!!! The food here was so exceptional and abundant that i am vowing to make it a family tradition!!! I am a carnivore by nature. Could never ever be vegan. In fact most buffets i skip right over all that yuck yuck salad/ veggie stuff and hit the carving stations first thing .... Not this time!!!! In fact i woulda been happy sticking right with these amazing veggies and salads plate after plate!!! ( of course my primal nature got me to the meats eventually...just sayin') Everything from sautéed broccolini with roasted pine nuts, grilled portabella, roasted corn and red peppers, fennel fingerling carrots, marinated grilled asparagus and eggplant... Just perfectly done and so pretty to look at!!! So much more !!! The meats held their own too!!! Carved NY strip and rosemary pork loin were 2 notable mentions. The price might be a bit of a drawback 35.99 for adults and 15.99 for kids in which mine eat like little birds. But worth it for such a special occasion. Service was great for a crowded event and food lines flowed quickly with endless stunning presentations of great dishes. They have a very comfortable and quaint bar with great drinks and a wine patio outside which makes for a great adult meeting place in the summer. Sad to say, there're few places left to go in The Friendly City and Harrigan's now makes one less for me. I used to go there because the food was OK, but, since going there most recently, its gestalt has become too much for me to abide. It went something like this: We took a couple of seats at the bar. The barkeep flipped two coasters at us as if he were in some kind of coaster tossing competition. He served up my sweetheart's draft (in one of those dreadful, thick, heavy pint tumblers, filled to the brim with absolutely no head - a certain indication that the glass was not thoroughly cleaned, something to do with residual oils and surface tension) and placed my bottle of beer in front of me. I waited long enough to realize that he was not going to give me a glass. When I asked for a glass, he sorta scolded me by saying, "Well, YOU didn't ask for one." Call me bizarre, but I've drunk in some pretty gnarly dives where I've become accustomed to drinking out of a glass. While I didn't make a big deal about this, I did mention it to the hostess and the engaging and sympathetic manager talked to me, but the barkeep assumed this "Fuck you" attitude. I guess they sent him off to the Bad Bartender Time out Room because the manager then tended the bar until we left. Although Harrigan's was about the only place in Johnstown we would go with any regularity, we're not going back. It's not because of the jerk bartender, it's because I stopped to look at the place. It's so damn deary it reminds me of those awful, stuffy, dusty interiors from the Civil War Era. The lighting is wretched. It's not that it is dimly lit, it's poorly lit with no contrast. The place needs a good cleaning; I cringe at the thought of what the wall-to-wall carpeting and the tacky draperies are harboring. And, there's that constant back odor of chlorine from the hotel's indoor pool. Let's not forget, Harrigan's has received a Wine Spectator Award of Excellence - what nonsense. read more

The staff are so nice here. All the food is good. Maybe a little on the fussy side not cheap but affordable. And since it's right in our hotel we liked being able to get a drink and not have to drive especially since the area is so unfamiliar to us. read more

I was so pleasantly surprised with this restaurant! I was treated to a lovely live pianist as I dined. While the weather was dreary and cold, this dining experience lifted my spirits! I started with a glass of their house made Sangria, upgraded my dinner salad to the Caesar and was happily enjoying my meal. When the scallops were delivered to my table I was impressed with the plate presentation. Once I tasted the meal, I was honestly blown away. The scallops were perfectly prepared, tender but done, flavorful but not overly seasoned. Green beans and cheesy grits were also fabulous! The staff was friendly and attentive, and the bartender was good - what else can you ask for? Looking forward to my next trip to Johnstown and trying this place again if I am staying at the attached Holiday Inn (which is, BTW, one of the nicest Holiday Inn properties I've seen)! read more

My husband and I come to Thunder in the Valley and like to stay at Holiday Inn. Went to the Café Wednesday early evening food was way over priced Stuffed Mushrooms way over cooked the Calamari was coated with panko bread crumbs which would have been great if they were fried longer. They had no color still white. Burger was ok and Fish tacos ok a little bland. My husband had 2 captain and coke tall glass and I had Chambord on the rocks our bill was 79.83 with out tip. Oh onion straws with the burger were good but our bartender/ server was told in front of us not to offer the onion straws anymore because the Chef doesn't like to make them. I ordered a stout on draft and it was amazing and very cheap. The kids meals were free because we had a room in the hotel. There was a woman playing the piano and she was so nice and let the kids sit with her. The waitress was so nice with great recommendations. Come here!! read more

Fancy(ish) hotel bar/restaurant. Wouldn't serve me alcohol because I didn't have my I.D. (no big deal... that's the law and I shouldn't have forgot it). However, when I entered the bar, following my friend's wedding reception, they were not checking I.Ds for entry. Since the women's restroom is inconveniently located in the front lobby of the hotel, I needed to leave and use the facilities. Two teenage(?) boys were outside the front door checking I.Ds. They said if I left they wouldn't let me back in the bar to even retrieve my purse that was still inside with my friends. No drivers license, no re-entry. Again, it's my fault for forgetting my license for an overnight trip. However, I found it very inappropriate when one young man said "guess you'll just have to hold it or leave". Not letting women use the restroom?!?? Seriously?!?? Being rude for no reason?!?! Seriously?!?! On another note. It was a very nice bar. Only 3 beers on tap, but very nice wine selection. The food looked amazing although I didn't order any. The kitchen had just closed when we arrived (around 11pm). There was a super nice female bartender and had I not had to deal with the kids running the door, I would have had a nice time. For the record I'm 28. read more

I haven't had a meal this bad in a long time! The French Onion mushroom soup had no flavor. I poured a bunch of salt in and it added some taste, then I added a bunch more and finally it was somewhat edible! No beef flavor at all !!! The onions were mushy and the mushrooms seemed to be an afterthought! For my dinner, I was struggling between the bolognese, and the spaghetti and meatballs in the ala vodka sauce. The waiter suggested the spaghetti! The pasta and sauce were ok, but the meatballs tasted funny and I couldn't eat them! The dish was served with fresh slices of mozzarella cheese and then the spaghetti had shaved mozzarella too! Maybe a little bit excessive! The service was average at best! The food is good, but it's SLIGHTLY overpriced but not enough to deter me from going back but what could prevent me from return is the hostess, she looked directly at myself and my companions and continued to put on her coat and leave. This forced us to seat ourselves and delayed our service for about ten minutes. Then a waiter realized that we were waiting on menus and drinks. Our waiter was very attentive and polite and it almost made up for the rudeness of the hostess. The atmosphere is very nice and peaceful. Overall we enjoyed our meal. I would recommend the International Cheese Plate and the stuffed mushrooms, they were but delicious. We also had the olive tapenade which was HORRID and sour, this is coming from a lover of olives. I had the crown cheese burgher which was also excellent. One of my companions had the Asian Salad and enjoyed. For desert we split a STELLAR creme burlee. read more

While hold up at the Holiday Inn for a month for work, I got to try many different menu items at Harrigans. Turtle soup might be the best deal on the menu. There's no turtle in it I promise. veal stock, spicy Cajun flavor, veggies, even Sherry if you want. They have good hot wings and breakfast is outstanding. My Mom and her bridge club went here for a luncheon on Sunday. It was horrible. Out of the 6 guests, three sent food back due to it being cold and one guest who ordered tuna melt on salad and it came out as burnt as can be. She complained silently. Granted we were only ones in restaurant as it was dead and when we were barely finished with our meal a girl came by and insisted she take out cloth napkins as she needed to do laundry. Never in my life have a heard of such a thing. I mentioned this to front supervisor of the restaurant of how appalled everyone was and she didn't care. This was absurd. While staying at the Holiday Inn, we came to grab a beer while waiting for friends. At the bar, the manager(?) came out and sternly told the bartender "card them" about us.. which I am used to being carded, but saying it so rudely in front of us seemed a little harsh. As we are sitting here enjoying our drink, I overhear him tell a woman he's waiting for her to leave- granted she's drunk, but again with being rude. He just seemed entirely so over the night (with a WHOPPING 10 people inside) and clearly wanting people to leave.. when they're open for another hour. With not much left in Johnstown, you'd think maybe you'd want to make a better impression. read more

This restaurant was a total shock to us! We were in Johnstown for JR high wrestling states and wanted a nice dinner without having to drive far away in between sessions (the night before we drove 20 minutes to eat crappy bar food.) We decided to try the restaurant simply for location purposes. To our delight they had a wonderful buffet set up with salad, stuffed chicken breast, pasta, veggies and soup. It was amazing!! Everything was cooked perfect and had a delightful taste! We went again on Saturday and took a crew with us. They again had a delightful buffet set up with a delicious menu. The chicken soup was so flavorful! We also ordered the calamari, which had a wonderful and tasty coating. Our waitress was fantastic and on top of everything we needed. To our delight a lady began to play the piano. I had to give this place 5 stars from food to service, to atmosphere. It was all amazing. read more

Had the garlic shrimp pizza and shared it with my boyfriend. The more I ate it, the more I realized there was absolutely nothing garlicky about it. It had no flavor. Not just the shrimp, but the basil and mozzarella had no flavor either. If you're looking for a fancy restaurant with actual flavor in the food, go to Asiago's or something. read more
