First time floatie! (Long time lover of floating.) I booked online on a whim. The confirmation email and orientation video were sent immediately after booking. I appreciated that touch as they provide a solid baseline for those of us who had never floated before. The facility is cozy, comfortable, and a little home-y. It is VERY clean. It is obvious the staff take meticulous care. The staff members were friendly, jovial, personable, and knowledgeable. They broke down the process into simple steps. Floating was...beautiful. As a beginner, I used the pool noodle to keep my head up. I had the star lights on for the first 20(?) minutes - however I braved complete darkness for the rest of my float. I could feel my body relaxing deeper and deeper. It's hard to explain, but the sensation was : the more I relaxed and released tension, the more buoyant I seemed to be. I melted in and out of conscious awareness, coming out of the float completely zen. I usually feel this loose after a massage! My only complaints? The temperature of the water was a little chilly and could have been a more comfortable experience if it were 5-10 degrees warmer. I had goosebumps at the end of my float. There was a significant amount of noise to be heard of people stomping down the hallway. It took me in and out of my mediation. Not super bothersome but present. I still recommend this place! Such kind, caring staff and clean facilities!

Cool experience in a clean establishment. The staff was nice and hospitable, gave a quick orientation and I was in! I don't think he told me his name though. I chose the Summer Sky 2 room due to my claustrophobia, I had rescheduled when I accidentally picked the escape pod, which probably would be fine for my second visit. They have a shower in the room for you to shower before and after the session, as well as shampoo, body wash, ear rinse, but no conditioner, so bring your own. There is conditioning spray at their mirror which is in the middle of the hallway. I had to use the blow dryer which I imagine could be heard in the tank if someone was in it, but cannot confirm. It was weird to get ready after the session in the middle of the facility. The experience was really nice but felt familiar. It was the first time I floated in an isolated setting but it felt like it wasn't (probably because I've floated many times and easily while swimming.) The temperature was a little cool, it could have been 1-3 degrees warmer. I made a few mistakes and did not put the ear discs in properly, and ended up getting salt water in my ears and eyes multiple times which definitely ruined the experience. Do not get the water in your eyes under any circumstances. Even though it was my fault, it made me want to get out early. I felt it was really helpful for addressing pain, I was able to hear everything (I mean everything) crack. I thought it would be more transcendent than it was, but I'm open to trying it again. I did have a great meditation session, but it was better for physical pain than anything else. This is probably better for people who live in the city and have a difficult time finding a place or time to be completely alone without any sensory input. I live in a pretty quiet area so it almost felt like being home. It's worth a try if you're remotely interested. I think everyone should try floating once.

After hearing rave reviews from my cousin, friends and even Buzz Feed of all places... I felt curious and wanted to experience floating for myself. (Perhaps a bit of peer pressure as well.) One of my friends noticed my interest and got me a gift card for a 60 minute float session and I was ready to go as soon as I booked my appointment. They have an easy way to redeem gift cards and book a session on their online calendar. It's staggered between 60/90 minute sessions and they have the options for 4 different tanks. I chose Summer Sky chamber/tank, which has some small lights that look like stars for you to look at while floating. As this place is in a downtown area of Somerville parking can be tricky, but I found a spot off a random side street. I guess the park would have worked too. Once you enter there's a cubby for you to exchange your shoes for slippers (S/M/L size) and wait to enter the room reserved. They provide water and other amentities for patrons (shampoo, body wash, lotion). I was given a brief introduction about Float and what to do. They provide you with ear plugs to create suction so that salt water doesn't seep in and instruct you to shower before and after floating. They also have ointment for you to use if you have any cuts/scrapes and a neck pillow/pool noodle for support. I turned off the light and hopped in the tank noting that the temperature was quite comfortable at around 85. The tank is filled with about 1 ft. deep of salt water. I don't ever meditate or really disconnect so actually forcing myself in the deprivation chamber was a challenge. I probably spent the first 20-30 minutes just floating back and forth and it wasn't until the last half that I actually feeling the zen then it felt like it ended so soon once I heard the relaxing music. I should have stayed longer now seeing the other reviews of the tea and coloring books as well, but I think I was getting hungry. While I probably would never pay the full price ($60) for another session I'd be interested in looking into other places in the area or if they have some promos going on. Disconnecting for even just 1 hour felt relaxing and worthwhile.

Tank #4. Looks small on the outside, very large inside.

My floating experience was amazing. I won't explain my tank experience because they warn those who haven't tried it yet on that because then you'll go in with expectations of what will happen to you and your mind. I will say I closed the door and did not feel an ounce of claustrophobia to my surprise. I will say what I felt after. Absolutely every ounce of tension in my body was released. I get 2 deep tissue massages and Thai bodywork every month and I've never felt this great. I took the most glorious nap after. Relaxation doesn't touch how great I feel. My skin, nails, and hair feel amazing after a 90 minute 850 pounds of epsom salt soak! I have always had insomnia and slept soundly each night after my float (which has continued, currently 7 days later). So yeah, I'd highly recommend it! Easy online scheduling. Very friendly staff. Relaxing environment, inside and outside of the tank at Float Boston!

Something to stare at while you're lying in the tank, the starry ceiling.

Happy it's back open and they are getting a new modern tank. The water bottles are a nice touch.

This kind is the far infrared chamber where you lie down. It was nice! They are really generous with providing a layer of clean, fresh towels covering the entire bed and pillow. I wasn't sure if it would be too hot. It turns out it was so relaxing I fell asleep in like 10 minutes!! I think since my head was out of the chamber, the heat was tolerable and I woke up drenched in sweat!! I had that buzzy endorphin feel after working out! David and his mother who run it are really nice, helpful and passionate about what they do. David was able to explain the whole process and how the far infrared sauna works. They both were really kind and happily took the my time answering questions. It was not packed, but they were steadily busy when I went. I fall asleep really easily so I did not have any issue with background noise, but for folks who are light sleepers you might want to bring ear plugs, but they also provide them for you if you forgot to bring them. The next day I went to finally try the sauna, which I was very excited about since pretty much all saunas at gym locations were off limits due to covid, which not only do they clean the rooms, but they also place fresh new towels even if you don't use them, they also sanitize everything, so you don't have to worry about covid at this place. When I got there I was greeted by the man behind the desk (didn't get his name) and not only was he nice, but also very professional. Once it was time to go to the room he explained to me how it works and they gave me extra time since it was my first to get relaxed and understand the heating controls. Once the session was over I was asked how I felt and I was made sure I enjoyed my time. I wasn't pressured to get a membership or anything... I honestly didn't know what to expect coming here and when I first saw the pricing online I thought it was a little pricey, but the pure professionalism of this place is just too good, not to mention the health benefits of the sauna itself. I absolutely recommend this place!
