CLEANLINESS WARNING: I contracted plantar warts on my feet after visiting this location and using my personal sauna barefoot. Paying $220 a month only to end up with HPV on my feet--and being unable to exercise for two months due to the pain--is unacceptable. While they claim to clean the facilities thoroughly after each use, it's clearly not the case. On top of that, their app is a nightmare to use. For the premium price they charge, the overall experience falls far below expectations.

What a perfect way to relax! After seeing a great review of SweatHouz on social media, I decided to book the intro package and schedule a visit. Ashley greeted me and gave me a tour of the rooms I'd be using and set me up in the infared sauna. It was so relaxing, and a great added touch that you could hook up your phone for music! The Vitamin C shower following was amazing- I don't think I've ever felt that clean! I was nervous to try the cold plunge, but the staff was super helpful and I was able to be in there for a little under a minute. The whole experience was so easy and relaxing, I cannot wait to go back!

Infrared light sauna was extremely clean with a design, with custom chromatherapy lighting

"Revitalizing" isn't a strong enough word to describe this place! You won't feel like a million bucks; you'll feel like a *BILLION* bucks after the infrared sauna and cold plunge. I took my girlfriend with me as my guest and we very comfortably fit in the private sauna and cold plunge suites. Extremely clean and well designed spot. The vitamin C showers in both the saunas and cold plunge have super high quality shampoos, conditioners, and body wash to cleanse the sweat off you after the sauna, and warm you back up after the cold plunge. The staff is very friendly and walk you through everything from start to finish. The owner, Nico, is so passionate and truly cares about his customers. I loved my experience so much that, as I was leaving, I bought another 4-pack session for myself and a 4-pack for my parents for Christmas! You won't regret it.

Jackie and Tara are always professional, efficient and dedicated to my wellness at this facility. They each have taught me different comfortable strategies to enjoy a cold plunge and an infrared sauna. This place is ALWAYS CLEAN and these ladies go the extra mile is helping me; whether it be with extra towels or blue tooth my audible or anything else to meet my needs.

This is such an amazing place! Must try!

This is such an amazing place! You go in and get to decide on a cold scented towel, offered a water or you can fill up your own bottle, shown to your private room then the magic begins. Sauna for 45 mins or however long you can last, this is such a relaxing experience but you will sweat! You have your own personal shower to cool off and rinse off with a vitamin c rinse. Such a unique experience. There is a hydro massage and cold plunge pool. I will most definitely go back and reccomend this as a way to relax, destress and detoxify. Highly recommend.

This kind is the far infrared chamber where you lie down. It was nice! They are really generous with providing a layer of clean, fresh towels covering the entire bed and pillow. I wasn't sure if it would be too hot. It turns out it was so relaxing I fell asleep in like 10 minutes!! I think since my head was out of the chamber, the heat was tolerable and I woke up drenched in sweat!! I had that buzzy endorphin feel after working out! David and his mother who run it are really nice, helpful and passionate about what they do. David was able to explain the whole process and how the far infrared sauna works. They both were really kind and happily took the my time answering questions. It was not packed, but they were steadily busy when I went. I fall asleep really easily so I did not have any issue with background noise, but for folks who are light sleepers you might want to bring ear plugs, but they also provide them for you if you forgot to bring them. I didn't need them. In the front they also sell crystals, drinks to hydrate, gifts and other fun stuff. Thank you!

The next day I went to finally try the sauna, which I was very excited about since pretty much all saunas at gym locations were off limits due to covid, which not only do they clean the rooms, but they also place fresh new towels even if you don't use them, they also sanitize everything, so you don't have to worry about covid at this place. When I got there I was greeted by the man behind the desk (didn't get his name) and not only was he nice, but also very professional. Once it was time to go to the room he explained to me how it works and they gave me extra time since it was my first to get relaxed and understand the heating controls. Once the session was over I was asked how I felt and I was made sure I enjoyed my time. I wasn't pressured to get a membership or anything... I honestly didn't know what to expect coming here and when I first saw the pricing online I thought it was a little pricey, but the pure professionalism of this place is just too good, not to mention the health benefits of the sauna itself. I absolutely recommend this place!

There are wood-burning sauna options and a steam sauna. The wood burning was lovely because you could hear the fire crackle. The saunas are shared, and it's a pretty social environment. Definitely a Somerville-Cambridge crowd. Everyone was super friendly. I have to say, the saunas were hot-hot. The regulars told me they've never experienced such heat before, so what I experienced wasn't the norm. I did feel very rejuvenated though. Winters usually dry out my skin, but this session made me feel great again. I'd even take breaks in the outdoor lounge, sitting by the fire pit, in a bathing suit, in the dead of winter, surrounded by snow. It was quite the scene. Like a mobile, makeshift version of what I had done in northern Sweden. You can book an hour or 2, and they have packages for multiple visits per month. I will say, I do prefer SweatHouz only because I like to lay out and stretch while having a session, and that kind of behavior is pretty obnoxious when there are up to 5 others with you lol. I'm not sure if they're here every season or if the location will find its permanent residence here, but if you're someone who enjoys a sweat session, I'd say give it a go!

I was coached to shut out the noise and focus on my breath. To my surprise, I stayed in for over three minutes. The exhilaration afterward was incredible, only surpassed by the sensation when re-entering the sauna as warmth and circulation flooded back in. It's invigorating, deeply calming, and oddly addictive. Release Well-Being Center is a premier destination for contrast therapy. I've not found anything that comes close to this experience. Known as BLISS, their expertly curated sauna and cold plunge experience lives up to its name. The space is stunning, the amenities are immaculate, and the staff is exceptionally friendly and professional. From the moment you walk in, you feel welcomed and that you are in for an elevated experience. The changing rooms are beautifully appointed (think high-end resort), and your locker is stocked with the most delicious robe, towel, and a pair of sandals. The staff does an exceptional job of keeping every space spotless, from the showers to the changing areas, and the beauty area, which boasts high-end hair products and styling tools, as well as any items you may have forgotten, such as hair ties, brushes, sanitary products, and razors. The heart of the experience lies in the relaxation lounge, a true sanctuary featuring two infrared saunas, a traditional sauna, and two pristine cold plunges (at temperatures of approximately 44° and 54°). The sauna relaxes and detoxifies. It's hot, yes, but deeply calming, evoking memories of back when it was okay to bake in the sun at the beach. The cold plunge is undeniably cold, but not painful; it stings and serves as a bracing wake-up call to both the body and mind. Sink in swiftly, breathe with intention, and time moves faster than you think. The contrast between the two has been transformative for me, with improved circulation, enhanced mental clarity, better cardio performance, a more elevated mood, and faster muscle recovery. And when you think you've hit peak Bliss, there's the eucalyptus steam room, also the best I've ever experienced. Stepping into its warm, fragrant mist after contrast therapy feels like a hug for your entire body. I've also had the pleasure of getting to know Linda Townsend, the founder and president of Release, who leads by example and shares the space with members. Our conversations in the sauna, about health, balance, and life, are part of what keeps me coming back. Release is more than a wellness center. It's a community, and a true gem in the heart of Boston. Try their generous Bliss trial membership. You won't regret it!

I had no idea what to expect walking in (and I was even running late), but the moment I arrived, I was greeted with kindness, no rush, no judgment--just a warm welcome and clear guidance to my private suite. The whole experience felt intentional and peaceful. I started in the infrared sauna, took a quick refreshing shower, and then went for the cold plunge--which, yes, was a shock to the system in the best way. It was exactly what I needed and honestly healing on so many levels. The space was super clean and stocked thoughtfully with towels, deodorant, soap, hair ties, a shower cap--all the little things that matter. One thing to note: bring slippers if you want something on your feet while you're in the suite. What I also love is that if you buy a pack, you can use it at any Sweathouse location--even out of state, which I definitely plan to take advantage of. We were checked in, staff were very helpful, one took us to our room (you can bring a guest and share the room, they also pay $50), and explained how everything worked, set a timer and then left. Sauna was great, just large enough for two, and very spacious for one. Plenty of large clean towels were provided (would suggest having some kind of floormat), it's very dim in the main room which is very atmospheric, we ended up using the phone flashlight for more light when we were packing up. Sauna was set at 140 degrees and can go to 170, we increased it to 145 after the first plunge. The plunge is good, quite a deep and long tub, it was set at 46 degrees. Some kind of step/railing would be good. The vitamin C shower was good, shampoo, conditioner and bodywash is provided. It was a bit slow to drain. The hour goes quickly. This location has just opened so everything seemed very clean and new. I would go again, the pricing is a little confusing in that if you want to bring a guest, you pay double, despite sharing a room. There's also a nice little shared area outside with mirrors/blowdryers if you want to dry your hair before heading out. Would recommend arriving 10 mins early to check in and sign waiver form (including a $1000 fine if you're inappropriate in the room). Your room is private and you can lock the door so you can wear a swimsuit or not. We thought there was a big line at check in when we arrived but it was just lots of staff members. A nice addition to Southie, would be great on a cold day or after exercise.

According to the club's website, membership terms, and all publicly available policies, there is absolutely no mention of any additional fee for a child to participate in Family Swim, especially not during the 4-5 PM session. Despite this, today we were denied entry and were told that we must pay an additional fee -- the staff even mentioned $10 for the child, and later $80 -- although none of these fees appear anywhere in the official documentation. When we were stopped at the entrance, we asked the front desk staff to show us exactly where on the website it states that a child requires an additional payment for Family Swim from 4-5 PM. The receptionist looked but could not find any such information. She then sent us to the manager. The manager spoke to us in an extremely rude and dismissive manner. Instead of providing proof or pointing to written policies, he simply said: "If we let everyone in, we will destroy our business." This statement was made sharply, with a clear tone of hostility, and with no attempt to justify or explain the alleged fee. It was obvious that his decision was not based on any written rule but purely on his own judgment at the moment. From a legal perspective: Charging undisclosed, non-transparent fees violates basic consumer protection principles, including unfair or deceptive practices under Massachusetts law. Denying access to a service that is already included in a paid family membership constitutes improper performance of contractual obligations. Introducing new fees "on the spot," without written policy or prior notice, is inconsistent with standards of good faith and fair dealing. We left extremely disappointed. This club demonstrates that it can invent new charges at any moment, deny access to members, and treat customers with open disrespect. We do not recommend Waverly Oak Club to anyone.
