I got the pork banh mi and an iced coffee. The coffee was just fine, but the banh mi (which looked great!) was underseasoned to the point of being really disappointing. The cilantro was probably the most flavorful aspect of it. I'm pretty sure they use American-style mayo for this as opposed to the egg yolk-based mayo that I'm used to on banh mi, plus the pork itself was rather... flavorless. I guess if you're as old and as whitebread as the clientele here are, anything spicier might be off-putting? I might have gotten a dud, or this might be the way they make it every time. This place was delicious!! They were out of smoked salmon when we got there, but we saw them making more while we were eating. Pretty cool! My husband loved the cold brew coffee. I had the Bobbi Lane breakfast burrito, and it was SO GOOD. My husband ended up getting a Cuban sandwich, and he said it was good. Upon entry, you are welcomed by a ton of smiling workers and happy customers. Such a beautiful aroma meets you as you walk in the door. I ate the breakfast burrito and was highly impressed. Coffee and mocha were horrible. Coffee (even with an extra shot) tasted really weak and had little to no coffee taste. Mocha was even more disappointing. It's super sobering to be at a place that plays songs like the killers and have an open space. It was definitely your classic cafe with a printer! $5 sandwiches too! Unexpectedly, we chose blueberry pie and hard boiled eggs for breakfast. The eggs were fresh and the pie was delicious. A yummy splurge for breakfast. Pie would have been even better warm. On Sundays, breakfast sandwiches are not made to order, so this turned out to be the perfect breakfast for us. read more

Two words: "Bahn Mi". It's difficult to find a proper bahn mi (Vietnamese sandwich) outside California or Houston, where most of the indigenous purveyors reside. So when I decided to run the dice on the haddock version that Flexit had here a couple of years ago, my heart had hit both 7 and 11. The ingredients were authentically on-point, something that even most of the Chinese knockoffs in Manhattan tend to miss. The best banh-mi sandwich I had in the East Coast. I was definitely perplexed: Here I was in the furthermost reaches of Maine and hadn't seen another Asian since Tuesday (let alone a Vietnamese person) -- so how could it be that their sandwich be very similar that my mom would make for me as child? Long story short, I ended up meeting the owner that day, and he told me that he had been to Houston in the 80's, when he first discovered bahn mi. He's been perfecting the sandwich ever since. This has to be one of the most remarkable culinary stories ever, and years later, I still yearn for the Maine haddock bahn mi. In love with this place, will be stopping by every time I'm even within 100 miles. read more

Came here on a pretty busy Sunday morning. The staff was super polite and helpful as it was our first time here at Flexit and we were from out of town. I ordered an egg sandwich with bacon and pepper jack cheese and it was by far one of the best egg sandwiches I have ever had. My husband got the breakfast burrito and he was also very happy with that. I think this place really SHINES is with their lattes, I got the iced vanilla latte and my husband got the hazelnut latte and we both were shocked with how flavorful and how well the coffee was made! We drove up to Arcadia national park twice and stopped here twice once for breakfast I had a smoothie (which was just ok) and lunch which was great: i had one of the specials which was a feta and red pepper quiche with a small salad. The owner/manager of Flexit helped me out today when I needed WiFi to check work emails on my drive from Acadia NP to Pennsylvania. Google maps took me to this building and told me it was "The Maine Grind" and was still open. However, the Maine Grind had closed 7 years ago... and Flexit had already closed for the day. The owner saw me sitting outside trying to figure out a backup plan, so he invited me in and let me use their WiFi while the employees cleaned up shop for the day. There were a few other customers inside still using the WiFi for schoolwork, despite the shop being closed. It was so refreshing that people these days can still be kind to one another :) More places should be like Flexit!!! read more

This is a great little cafe with a nice atmosphere. The cafe is primarily run by women and has a great vibe of feminine empowerment. The baked goods I had were all good. The blueberry turnover in particular. The egg sandwich and hash browns was also good though I found the croissant bun to be a touch dry. Maybe some butter needed? Flexit is a lovely cafe in the winter, but as summer rolls around and the tourists flock to Maine, it becomes a perfect lunch spot, with sandwiches, quiches, salads, and smoothies made from fresh ingredients -- most lunch dishes accompanied by an inspired couscous side salad. The coffee is very good, and they offer all kinds of coffee drinks (something of a rich-man's starbucks). They even have almond milk next to the half and half and dairy milk carafes. Also worth trying are the pastries and the freshly-made juices. The building is very cool, it looks quite old, but renovated nicely. They have games located in the built-in wall hutch and lots of comfy couches amid the tables for eating. And located at the indoor entrance of the cafe there are two local artist and artisan shops to wander in to buy or window shop. Stopped by to grab lunch for a picnic in Acadia National Park. I ordered avocado toast with smoked salmon. When we arrived at our picnic spot I was so disappointed! The bread was not toasted, it had a very small amount of mashed avocado but an ok amount of smoked salmon. Quite frankly the most tasteless and unimaginative avocado "toast" I've ever had. read more
