Super kind staff, good food, and even better coffee, the vibes are retro cafe with cozy booths, 12/10 can't wait to go back

I went to Flexit Cafe about three years ago and was pretty weirded out at how unfriendly the staff was. So much so that I didn't go back in until today. They're in a new location. It's been a while. I figured there would be new, and hopefully friendlier, staff. I was half right. There was new staff, but unfortunately, they were as unwelcoming as the last batch. This place has no prices on any of the premade sandwiches or pastries in their cases (why??), so we asked "Hey there, how much are your pies and cookies?". The employee was in the lobby sweeping and said "I'm not sure. Somewhere between $3- $5. Maybe more". She doesn't look up. Doesn't offer more clarity. She just shrugged this non-answer to us and carried on. It was awkward. So my husband, trying to make light of it, says "Sounds like it's up for debate so how about I give you $2.50" and this girl gives us a dour look and snaps "Well, I'm not behind the cash register so I can't look at the prices, can I?". So, we have now learned our lesson with this place twice. Not sure what it is about the culture there that results in such bad service years apart and by different people. We won't be returning. read more

Popped in here while exploring downtown Ellsworth, looking for some Matcha which seems to be a bit difficult to find in the area. Thankfully, we found Flexit because the Matcha was really delicious! My wife and I both ordered an Iced Lavender Matcha and the drinks came out quickly and efficiently. It seemed like a cute place to hang out and do some working/study sessions. Plus the location is perfect. Plenty of parking nearby and lots of other shops to explore post-caffeine. We did not order food during this visit so I cannot comment on the food. However, I will say that it seemed like they had a great selection of food as well as a grab-n-go section with lots of items from the cafe and other local vendors. If we're ever back in Ellsworth, we will 100% be back. read more

No-frills café where you order at the counter, grab everything you need, and bus your own table. Affordable, casual, and super dog-friendly, which I loved! The food was yummy and exactly what you'd expect. It was good, not over-the-top amazing, but definitely satisfying. A great spot for a quick breakfast before heading to Acadia or after walking around downtown Ellsworth (which is also really cute to explore!). read more

We were on the hunt for coffee and breakfast in the area when we found Flexit Cafe on Yelp. We arrived around late morning/early afternoon and one thing to note is that they have limited breakfast hours. So, we weren't able to order the breakfast sandwich we were hoping for but were fortunate that they still had some quiche left in their pastry case, so we went for that! Let me begin with the quiche, which was outstanding. It was absolutely packed with flavor and much more than simply an egg dish. I got the feta spinach and tomato quiche, which was packed with feta, spinach, and tomato. It was divine. The service was outstanding. They have the sweetest folks working in there! The coffee wasn't great. I got a dirty chai and didn't end up drinking it. The espresso was just not at all my favorite. I'd definitely go back for the amazing food and service, though! read more

The food is very good. It's your basic sandwich place and it has a prime location on the main drag. It has a nice energy and attracts an interesting clientele. The service at the counter is pretty friendly and helpful. They sometimes have a woman who goes around cleaning tables off and she runs hot and cold on a dime. The back of the place is slowly being consumed by storage and shelving, which makes it feel a little chaotic. They have restrooms for customers, which is very nice. Was there on a Saturday morning and was pleasantly surprised to be greeted with live music inside the door. In addition to the menu, there's a grab-and-go selection of baked goods and sandwiches. The space is filled with muted colors, artwork, and information about the local scene. I ordered a peach vanilla London fog off the specials menu and it was delightfully peachy! Just Wow! Used the online ordering powered by Toast to order my sandwich from the menu. Easy peasy and all paid for! I walked in the restaurant and it was packed and ready for pickup. (Right on time.). Main Street gets busy in the summertime and now that I know of this option, it will be a great way to get lunch quickly. Can't change the parking situation, but I was lucky to snag a spot. And a Knowlton Park Chicken Panini was delish as well! read more

Delicious salmon bagel and Main Street sandwich. But the hash brown bites were only ok. They tasted old and a little greasy. Coffee is yummy. Flexit Cafe, is a cute cafe that offers incredible coffee, smoothies, and sandwiches. I stopped in for breakfast and I was so pleased with the service and the food. When you walk in, you grab a menu while you wait in line. While you are waiting you pass their bakery items. They have a wide range of options and they have a bunch of gluten free options as well. You have an option of dining in or take out. If you dine in, they give you a number and will bring your food out to you. I ordered their breakfast burrito with sausage on a gluten free wrap and their Berry Blast smoothie. I also brought a gluten free marshmallow bar. Everything I ordered was absolutely incredible! The burrito was made to perfection. Everything paired nicely together and I could not put it down. It was delicious and I could have eaten two that is how amazing it was. The Berry Blast smoothie added the perfect amount of freshness. All the fruit was blended together nicely and the yogurt was a nice touch because it made it creamy. Last but not least was their gluten free marshmallow bar. I absolutely loved it! It was the perfect ending to a perfect breakfast. The marshmallows tasted homemade and the bar was not too hard. We were all pleasantly surprised how good the food and lattes were here! It's a cute cafe with some local art and very community driven. We ordered the breakfast burrito, spinach and feta pastry, and spinach and tomato tulip puff pastry with coffee and pumpkin lattes... yum! Everything was really good. The breakfast burrito had pickled onions in it and it was surprisingly delicious The staff was very friendly. We spoke to the owner, and he was great and helpful. They offer thing like in September - free small coffee and cookie with your local library card... what a ingenious idea! I highly recommend this place to locals and visitors. Nice little soup sandwich and coffee shop Order authentic counter. Menu on the video board. We wentbonce for lunch. Young people behind the counter were nice, relaxed, and pleasant. Get a number on a stick stand, then find a place to sit at the wooden tables scattered around. Eventually, they find your number and deliver the food to you. Noise leve is pretty high. Haddock chowder was thick, loaded with fish, and very tasty. Sandwichs were on home baked rolls and fairly innovative Over all a pleasant place for lunch. read more

Coffee was not good. The breakfast sandwich was on a hamburger bun and the cheese so melted it disappeared into the egg that seemed fake. On the positive side this place was open earlier than other cafes. read more

Use to love this place before they moved. After they moved things went from freshly made, to pre cooked items pulled from a fridge and heated..... like their egg patties for an egg sandwich. Not as much seating as the other location either. read more

Flexit is a standard to the Ellsworth community, for a reason! It's been one of the only coffee & hangout spots in the area and it's easy to see why it's still around. Since moving, nothing has changed other than the location. The coffee is still delicious, the staff is still friendly, and the food is still made with love and care. Came here for a quick bite before heading to Acadia. The sandwiches were delicious, service was nice and easy to find parking.

We were treated very poorly and the staff was rude. So, we didn't even try ordering and just left.

Had a quick takeout breakfast on our trip home. We got 2 sausage breakfast sandwiches, and a small smoothie. The sandwiches were both great. One with a brioche roll and the other with an English muffin. Both were hot and fresh. We also had a chai latte. It wasn't as sweet as typical, but had a very nice chai spice blend. Found this Cafe on our way to Bar Harbor. Looks like locals like this place. We ordered Tarragon Chicken Salad, Tofu Bahn Mi and Cold Brew. The food was great and the amount of chicken in the wrap was a lot. I wish they put more Tofu in the Bahn Mi though. Maybe they can slice it differently to fit in the baguette well. We love strong, dark roast coffee but the cold brew was too strong for us. It took us awhile to finish it. Nice cafe in the area though. read more

This cafe is a real gem, and I am so happy we discovered it as we were leaving Acadia. It's everything you could hope for in a local, independent coffee shop in terms of atmosphere and great coffee at affordable prices. When you first walk in, you are greeted by this charming historical building that is rich with character. The cafe is spacious with plenty of seating even during COVID times and a few people were hanging out working on laptops. I got an iced maple latte and a blueberry muffin. The latte was delicious because it tasted like they used real maple instead of the imitation syrup that you sometimes get at other places. The muffin was one of the best I've had because it used local blueberries (you can tell because they are small and tart unlike grocery store berries) and tasted fresh baked. If you are staying in Bar Harbor, it is well worth making the 15 minute drive out to get coffee here rather than the touristy places you'll find in the main drag. Highly recommend! read more

We placed a phone order for a breakfast burrito and iced coffee to start. The girl who took our order was so nice and helpful when we ordered. Once we got here we ordered hot apple cider, a blueberry muffin and a blt. Everything was fantastic!! The environment inside is comfortable and welcoming. Whoever runs this place should be insanely proud of themselves and their team. Everything they offer looks delicious and you can even see someone making baked goods in one area of the restaurant. The coffee is good enough, but I'm pretty unimpressed with the food. I don't know what (if anything) they use on top of the egg yolk before they bake the breakfast puffs, but in the oven it turns into something like shellac, but it's completely inedible and feels like eating plastic. The rest of the puff has a good texture but a boring flavor. The lemon poppy muffin was hard, dry, and boring. The service was really good, but the service at Aroma Joe's is just as good, with better food. I'm going to go back at some point and may change my rating based on fut visits. read more

We stopped here for a coffee before our days adventure. The building is beautiful, it was an old bank so it's large and full of charm. The place was really busy which is a great sign. There were a few baristas working and most seemed nice. We had an odd experience where she didn't call us over and stared straight ahead. It was awkward and then she finally said she could help us. My husband also thought the exchange was weird. It is difficult to see all the baked goods because different items are offered in different cases. I ordered the chocolate chip cookie. It was so good! I got an iced latte with toffee flavor and it was almost undrinkable. I haven't had a coffee that bad in so long. I don't even know what made it taste as bad as it did, but since we were on the run I didn't have it remade. My husband had cold brew and also didn't care for the coffee. Maybe it was an off day? But if we're in the area I'd probably try a different option first. Cool space though if you want to sit and relax a while and the cookie was great. read more

The best coffee shop in Ellsworth by far. Great ambiance with a cool vibe. Locally owned & operated with a nice intergenerational mix of people gathering personally & professionally. The coffee is excellent (and strong), the deserts divine, and the soup & sandwiches to die for. Plenty of prepared deserts, sandwiches, and snacks to go as well. My favourite in-house sandwich is the Cubano but we've never been disappointed with anything we've ordered. read more
