The chai and kitchari were a little overdose on spices (not subtle.. like a bunch of powder spices added to liquid.. not brewed chai as in authentic). I wondered if ghee was used in kitchari. Conscious Cafe is absolutely divine. They were a highlight meal on our recent vacation to the Acadia National Park area. Conscious Cafe is a small, tucked away neighborhood cafe inside a yoga studio. Their manu is carefully curated to nourish and replenish you body and soul. I really can't say enough about our experience here. We stopped by for an early lunch. I ordered the sweet potato soup as well as a coffee beverage. I typically don't like flavored beverages made with anything but espresso. Theirs are made with coffee and are outstanding. Zero complaints on the coffee. Their food is made fresh to order so takes a little while as when I was there, it was a bit of a one man show. The soup came came with crispy shallots and a drizzle of balsamic reduction. It was ginger kissed and one of the best sweet potato soups I have ever had. It was served with a side of crusty sourdough with the lightest smidge of ghee. It paired perfectly with the soup. The dining area is warm and comfortable with the kitchen easily viewable. You order at the counter and then the chef will bring you your meal. It's not a quick meal, but I promise you it will be worth the wait. Get to it! read more

Finding healthy food in Ellsworth or even Mount Desert Island is nearly impossible. We came to this restaurant 3 times until we finally found it open, since it closes at 3. Well was worth the wait. Good clean food, lots of vegetarian and gluten free options. The owner/chef Jesse even made a dish especially for me with all my dietary restrictions. Very nice! I love this place! I was in town for work for a few weeks and this was my most-visited spot. Their bowls are all incredible, and as someone who watches saturated fat intake, I really appreciated they had the option of either ghee or olive oil. Vegan friendly if that's your jam. We returned, as a family of four, for our annual trip to the Steamy Buddha. While we waited for these divine dishes, our little kids were able to run and play in the lower grassy yard, picking flowers and hunting insects. When we returned, our dishes came out piping hot and FULL of wholesome flavor and goodness. These dishes DO warm the soul and nourish your very core. I am sad i did not order a second hot Punjabi Chai for our continued drive home to Connecticut, as I cherished every sip last summer. One of the best eateries, hands down, in the world. Came on a Saturday at 12 noon. Door open, but no one there, lights off. No sign or posting of changed hours, no answer on phone after calling once at 11:30am and again at 1:30pm. Very disappointed. Supposed to be open from 11:30 to 3pm. read more

I thoroughly enjoyed this darling little cafe during a meet-up with a college friend! We were immediately greeted upon arrival by a very cheerful host/server. Thankfully, we arrived right before the lunch rush, so we got our food and drinks ordered quickly and received them quickly as well. We both got iced chai's and yum! They definitely lean on the turmeric side and are very earthy in flavor. We got the veggie and beef noodle bowls and we were both so pleased. The beef literally falls apart in your mouth as you eat it, and the broth is rich and flavorful. I tried some of the veggie bowl and that was equally as delicious. I'm always excited about places that are concerned with wellness, and the Steamy Buddha is definitely one of those places. In a fast-food world, this little cafe shines brightly. If you are a tourist looking for a reprieve from deep-fried seafood, definitely make your way here. You will not be disappointed! read more

After eating SO MUCH yummy (much of it fried) seafood in the area (do calories count when on vacation?), my parents and I wanted a more nutritious and light but still yummy option. I ordered the sweet and spicy buddha bowl and added tofu, my mom ordered the wholesome kitchardee (and asked for sourdough on the side), and my dad ordered the chicken sammy. The portions looked small at first alongside the price, but were super filling! I enjoyed my buddha bowl - the tofu was salty but was delicious and complemented the sweet potato. Being a spicy lover, it didn't seem spicy at all to me. My mom enjoyed her soup and said it tasted very "earthy" which I could see - to me, I personally wish there was more dimension/flavor to it, but it was still very comforting and a great meal for a rainy day. My dad's chicken sammy was actually my favorite - it was flavorful, filled with cheese, spinach and mushrooms - rich and flavorful but didn't leave us (I had half lol) feeling bloated at all. My dad isn't big on vegetables but still enjoyed his sandwich a lot. Overall, the food was quite good and there seems to be a decent variety for all kinds of eaters! Okay - I haven't eaten here yet because I live in San Jose, CA, but... I've bought gift certificates for my sister who lives in Bar Harbor. She said it was phenomenal food and the atmosphere was great. She said she was going to try some of the yoga classes as well. I know that they are very easy to deal with - I purchased my gift certificates via the phone and they emailed them to me so I can include with my Christmas box. Very friendly and helpful. What's a delightful place to eat. I had a Sweet and Spicy Buddha Bowl, and my sense was overwhelmed with happiness. Every bite was flavorful and delicious. To drink, I enjoyed a strawberry delight, and I didn't know if I could stop drinking it after that first sip. I couldn't put the smoothie down. Simplicity in natural flavors with rich textures made the whole experience wonderful. I took a handful of lemonades and beet juices and enjoyed each serving. I had to taste their rice pudding, and I'm glad I picked up two servings because one was great, but two just made it extra fabulous!! It's so amazing!! This is the way we should eat every day. I enjoyed everything I tried. I ended my meal with a Punjabi tea, and its incredible aroma melted into my mouth with each sip. This place is so special. What a pleasant, satisfying surprise this sweet place is! Abundant outdoor seating on a warm summer evening overlooking the lovely sweeping view of the garden. It drew us right in. Wait staff were top notch - Attentive, friendly and efficient. I had the maple mustard seared salmon w/sauteed spinach mushroom and sweet potato smash. Came with a small portion of yummy cold pickled beets. Presentation was nice on a stainless platter w/upscale-ish eating utensils. Not only did it look great, it tasted fantastic too. A flavor circus of sweet savory spices including ginger and a balsamic mustard reduction. Pretty classy! I ate every morsel too. My husband had the steak sandy. Impressive portion on a local (Little Notch Bakery) artisan sourdough grilled w/ghee. He could tell right away. Loaded with tender steak cooked to perfection along with melted Parmesan and caramelized onions. Who doesn't love a great steak sandwich? A fresh salad of baby greens including arugula and baby kale on the side that was lightly dressed with oil and lemon. Again, presentation was flawless. Highly recommend this fabulous sweet eatery for those who want a meal that not only satisfies but doesn't make you feel miserable afterward. Eating healthy outside our home, it has been a challenge. I've been coming to Ellsworth for years and we've never had a food option as great as this. The menu is short and solid, with lots of proteins and veggies you can mix and match to meet your mood or diet. I got a grain bowl and my friend got the flatbread plus we each got an iced tea for $37 total - not cheap but a very good price for this level of nutrition and deliciousness. We ate on the awesome deck in the sunshine. Would definitely recommend as takeout but eat on the porch if you can - very worth it! I'll definitely be back. read more

So good! We originally intended to stop at another place, but it was closed for the day. This was a quick last second find, and what a lucky one indeed. Kids, husband, and I all agreed we could eat here daily. Husband had one of the Buddha bowl's and kids and I shared the two soups. Yum!! I tried this place for the first time today and don't regret my decision at all. When you think of quinoa/grain bowls, usually the words flavorful and delicious aren't what comes to mind, but they have truly found a way to make these bowls magically delicious!! I had the earthy Buddha bowl which is a mix of quinoa, mushrooms, avocado, goat cheese, fried leeks, beets, chicken, all tossed with a lemon ghee dressing.
