I came to this Fleet Feet looking for a pair of Mizunos. I had just run the Honolulu marathon and left my shoes in Hawaii. I knew the exact pair I was looking for the staff gladly helped me. I was very impressed with the staff knowledge of their products without being pushy. I tried the pair that I wanted on, but they didn't have the color I wanted in my size. They gladly checked the Fleet Feet in Santa Cruz to see if they had the color and sure enough they did! I was able to pay for the shoes the same day and they said that in two days I should hear from them that they had the shoes at the Monterey store. Sure enough, on Saturday I got a call and the shoes had arrived. I was out of town, but the employee assured me they would be waiting for me when I arrived. I picked the shoes up tonight after calling to confirm their close time (Yelp says 6 pm, but I called and they actually close at 7 pm). Since I was able to make it after work (score!-I work in Salinas so the original posted 6 pm close time would have been cutting it too close) I got my shoes tonight and ran 3 miles in them. Needless to say, I am very happy with this stores selection, customer service, non-pushy attitude, attentiveness and flexible hours. I will definitely be back next time I need my running shoes. May, 2026 I've shopped at Fleet Feet for years, but my recent experience left me truly disappointed. My son needed a specific size, but they only had display shoes (with one shoe wider than the other). We asked them to check another location. They were reluctant but eventually ordered the shoes. When we called to confirm, the staff gave us the runaround and couldn't tell us if we'd be getting display shoes again. Both the Monterey and Santa Cruz managers were unhelpful. Kasey came out and assisted me by listening to how I am used to shopping and what I wear, and what I want. The shoes she suggested were great. I chose one in my usual brand Mizuno, but better than anything I've tried on before. And I plan to go back in a couple of weeks to order a pair of New Balance. These suggestions were based on my requests for cushion for walking and standing but in a running shoe style, not price point. No sales pressure, just a great experience. The service and assistance was amazing! I really wish I could remember the kids name. He saved my trip! I had gotten new shoes before my trip and thought I was good to go but they killed my knees. I didn't know if I was going to be able to enjoy all the walking adventures we had planned. We stopped in Monterey for a couple days and my husband told me there was a shoe store not to far away. I went over there and the young guy that helped me was AMAZING. He brought out a bunch of boxes, listened to what I said, and was able to help me find a pair that saved the rest of my trip. Fleet feet never disappoints. They offer military discount. I am always satisfied with their customer service and shoe selection. Very knowledgeable sales reps. I appreciate their custom fitting using their feet scanners. Strongly recommend. They also offer training for running races. I'll be looking into it. The only issue is availability from my end. Out walking my dogs on a beautiful Thursday afternoon (9/6/22) when we walked by this store. I went in to look around as I am always ready and willing to buy new running shoes. This store had a beautiful selection of athletic shoes, clothing and accessories. I have tried every brand of running shoe out there and Asics are one of the few brands I trust to fit and sustain my long runs without fail. They had a couple different pair of Asics that really caught my eye. Since I had my two dogs with me, (chiweenies) which is the equivalent of two obnoxious, satanic teenagers, it was very hard to look around and enjoy myself as they kept fighting and causing a scene. I ended of leaving when another dog walked in, (a nice, respectful dog) which in turn caused my heathen fur kids to go nuts. The whole scene was chaotic and embarrassing. I brought them back to the hotel, where we are now, and put them in time out. I'm crying, wondering why I had to have two fur children when my human children were almost grown and my freedom was just around the corner. I had to have two fur kids because I felt incomplete. And now my athletic shoe collection is suffering. I will definitely go back in while we are in town because I want those hunter green LuLuLemon pants and the Asics I loved. read more

I shop here a lot...usually I research and know what I want when I go in...this is because I NEVER get any in depth help with what shoe to purchase...I am an avid runner and I spend a lot of money on shoes and equipment, but I like to spend my money effectively...It would be nice for the sales people to ask questions or offer advice on what shoe works best when they don't have my size in another shoe (which is often)...maybe the sales people just don't know much about shoes or maybe I am expecting too much. read more

Bummed.. I used to shop at Fleet Feet when it was located In Del Monte, and when this location first opened I had great service. What I loved was the informed sales people who knew shoes and were customer focused. Today I drove from Salinas to purchase two new pair of shoes. The young man who "helped" me did not seem to be enthused to be there. I gave him my size and brand, and he walked slowly to the back and 10 minutes later came out with the wrong size. I then showed him two styles....he went back and came out with something different and said, "we don't have those." In the past they would have offered to order them, or based on knowledge, recommended an alternate. Nothing. Super disappointed. They just lost a $350+ sale Off to try the Treadmill.... read more

We were visiting family in Monterey so we stopped at Fleet Feet on our way out of town. The store is clean & welcoming. Jessica helped me by first doing all the fancy feet & stride measurements they do at FF. When we found that my stride/feet would allow for a wide variety of options, she brought out several options that would have different feels. It turned out that the first pair she brought out was the pair I went with, after running around the store in them & Jessica providing feedback. At no point did I feel rushed -she said I could try on all the shoes if I wanted. She was friendly & personable. I felt very comfortable. Time (and miles) will tell if the shoes were the right choice but I know it won't be Jessica's fault if they're not. Plus, Fleet Feet has the awesome 60 day return policy. Being in the military, I need new running shoes often. That being said, I usually go for the cheaper pair over the higher performance one. Was recommended to try out Feet Fleet by a friend. Was glad I did. They gave me several shoes to try and helped me find the perfect combination of performance, comfort, and price. The big find was Fleet Feet has the best collection of amazing sunglasses in town. Only $25 a pair, polarized with exceptional clarity, sturdy, and in an amazing array of colors (black, hot pink, orange, aqua, tortoise, yellow, khaki, multicolor,purple,blue green, black brown or reflective lenses- you name it, they have it.) I bought some for me, hubby, three sons and their partners, friends -everything from conservative tortoiseshell for my brother to wild multicolor yellow/pink/black for my son's girlfriend. With everyone wearing masks, good sunglasses are the accessory everyone uses. I would recommend this as a way for runner's to shop local and get great service. I came in to retire my current pair of distance shoes and Javier helped me get into a pair of Saucony Guide 9's that are awesome. I usually wear a different brand, but based on what I was looking for to improve my training he honed in on a pair that worked. Deals: they offer half off on a pair of socks if you get it with the shoes, which is fine since I needed some and I think it's good to wear a sock similar to what you'll run in when testing shoes. They offer 10% off for military, which is cool since there's a ton of service members in the area who appreciate the support. Also, check in on Yelp*, if you spend more over $150 you get another $15 off. The fitting and shoe test was a good experience. Javier let me test several combinations of sizes across 4 or 5 shoes. The store opens up to a back parking lot and you can take the shoes for a short spin for a couple laps to get a feel for their performance. read more

During my business travel to Monterey, an old foot issue really started to flair up on me. So in search of a place to find some decent inserts for my shoes, I came across Fleet Feet. I was fortunate that this store is staffed with such caring people, in particular, Kristyn. She listened with empathy and took care of my feet as if I were family. You could definitely see and feel the care she has to do right by people. After nearly an hour of trying different inserts and other options for pain relief, I settled on a pair of inserts that I happily wore out of the store. Within the next few days, I returned to the store to consider additional items as I felt very welcomed, not just as a customer, but as a person. And for me, when I am away from home, it is nice to meet people in a business that see you as more than a dollar sign. Plus, Fleet Feet's generous return policy certainly backs that up from a corporate level. So whether you are in the market for something new for your feet, or need relief for an old injury or condition, I HIGHLY recommend you stop and see these folks in Monterey... hopefully you will find what you were looking for, but you will definitely find something I bet you weren't, and that's to be treated like a human being by their awesome staff... Fantastic shoe fitting, very knowledgeable staff. The day before the Big Sur Half I was in town and realized I had forgotten my running shoes (gasp!). Went to Fleet Feet hoping to find the exact model shoe I have been running in for years (Saucony, Guide). Unfortunately they don't carry that exact model. Luckily even though they don't carry the shoe, the man fitting me knew exactly the characteristics of that shoe and knew which shoe would most closely match in terms of fit, support level, drop, etc. How incredible is that? As everyone has said on here, very knowledgeable staff! I came in looking for a good pair of running shoes. I do 5K's, but am not consistent with my training. The (new) owner, Russ (who also owns the Fleet Feet in Aptos) went above & beyond. I told him that I have plantar fasciitis in both feet. He took the time to explain what would help, gave me a quick massage (with some equipment) & found knots I never knew I had in my calves, gave me some quick tips for my running form, AND found the right shoe for me. Since Covid started I have been ordering my running shoes online. It's frustrating because you don't know how they are going to fit based on the pictures so I have ordered and sent back at least a dozen. Since restrictions have eased I decided to visit an actual running shoe store and try some on. I was in the store for 15 minutes; 3 clerks and 3 customers and not one clerk acknowledged my presence or said " I'll be with you soon". I finally just turned around and walked out. I was in medical need of insoles and a pair of more supportive shoes. Went into the store this morning. Both of the sales people were busy with customers so I wrote my name on the waiting for help board. Waiting about 5 mins for Zack to finish with a customer and a sale. While I was waiting neither of the sales people even acknowledge me or said the standard "we'll be with you in a minute. As soon as Zack started working with me another customer came in. He stopped helping me to take apart a display and check a size on a shoe. Went into the back to look up if the shoe was a available at the other store which it was. Put me into a shoe that wasn't on shoe recommended nor the shoe I asked to see. I told him it didn't fit right felt too large. He told me it was the right size for my foot. Left me again standing there in a shoe that wasn't what I needed never pulled the insoles for me to try in my current shoe which was my number one request and moved to another computer area with the other customer to try and figure out when they might be getting the new shoe in. He should have asked her to wait a minute while he worked with me. In the mean time the other sales guy was just sitting there watching his customer walk around in the third pair of shoes he had tried on. All in all some of the worst customer service I've ever seen. I even left out the rude comments about when you age your foot grows and how he could read the recommendation sheet without me zooming in on the photo.
