I love the Fleet Feet Sports! The owners of both the Aptos & Monterey locations, Russ and Tina, are dedicated to serving their community and are very generous in supporting local community programs! I joined my first training group that they offer about a year ago. It was a life changing event for me! This amazing group of Fleet Feet Coaches and Team Members took me under their wings to work with me on my running abilities...which stared at basically none. Over the past year I participated in several of their training groups and went from running hardly at all to running two half marathons and several 5k and 10k's. The best part of this experience is the friends that I have met and the uplifting encouragement to continue my journey! My podiatrist recommended that I be properly fitted for a pair of running shoes and she recommended Fleet Feet on Alvarado Street in Monterey. I visited the store today and was waited on by Kevin. He read the doctor's recommendations and listened to my concerns, measured my feet both sitting and standing (something no one has ever done before) and selected three pairs of sample running shoes to try. The second pair I tried on felt like they had been made for my foot exclusively. I have worn them since arriving home and solid comfort, nice round toe box for plenty of room. This place is the example of a local business I want to support. I purchased my first pair of running shoes from the Alvarado location four years ago. Had no intention on buying shoes, but the lady helping me was so informative and helpful I felt obligated to buy some shoes. They were awesome and totally worth it. A year ago I got back into trail running and I have been having a lot of heel and foot problems. I walked into there again looking for advice. Initially both staff members were busy. One was on the phone and the other was in the back for a minute. I work outdoor retail and it's a good sign when the staff is busy and just have time to greet you. That means they actually get a good amount of business in. Then both staff members gave me their undivided attention and solid advice on some new shoes. Did six miles today and I can tell they made the right choice. Afterwards I told my friend running buddy what I got and he told me I should of held off and purchased my shoes online for a better deal. I'd like to think that businesses that give good advice and reasonably fast customer service earn the sale. read more

Not a bad selection. They sold me some expired Cytomax, so I doubt I'll be back. I shouldn't have to check the date when the owner grabs it for me off the shelf. Super nice owner and what seems like a decent selection of merchandise. I went in on Sunday to buy a pedometer - my most recent hobby (scratch guitar, Spanish lessons, dance lessons, kick-boxing, vocal training, the list of my hobbies is endless...and end quickly. HAHA!) is running. Walt explained that a pedometer is not going to give me the distance with running - he suggested buying a chip to insert into something which would transmit the distance run to my iPhone. So I purchased the cover from him and went to the Apple Store to purchase the chip. I was helped by a very knowledgable employee, Jared Beckel. He showed me several brands. My feet said a strong "Yes" to the Brooks brand. I felt immediately more supported and have loved them. This was a particularly great trip -- and I usually frequent Fleet Feet stores no matter what city I am living in. They will take the time to do a thorough fitting and recommend the correct sneaker based on the customer's need - not just on selling the most expensive shoe on the wall. I came to Fleet Feet for my first pair of sneakers as I took up running and have been back many times since when I'm due for a replacement pair. The owners not only took the shoes back(for exchange with Mizuno) but after telling them I had no other shoes to wear while I waited for the exchanges to show, they gave me a different pair! I am a beginner training for a half marathon. When I first started, I dusted off my very old pair of running shoes from the closet and used those. After I hit 8 miles though, it became very clear that I needed some new shoes. I went in to Fleet Feet and told the worker, Kevin, that I needed new shoes but had no idea what I was looking for. I basically needed my hand held through the whole process, but he handled it like a pro. Remaining polite and cheerful the whole time, he measured my feet, took a look at my old pair, and pulled out three pairs for me to try on. After a short run in each, I picked the one I liked best. He showed me the color options and ordered the one I wanted. The shoes came in four days, and I am very satisfied with them. I just ran 9 miles, felt great, and shaved 45 seconds off my usual mile pace. I definitely recommend this place for other beginners who need some help! read more

Sometimes I just want to go into Fleet Feet to say hi to everyone working there even if I don't have an actual need to go in because they're all so personable a fun to be around! Jessica, Josh, Kevin, all of them are such amazing people! They're like family! Every time I come in, they never fail to have something waiting to show me that they think I'd like and they know me so well that I can't even recall a time where they weren't completely spot on about the things I like there. I stumbled upon Fleet Feet when I was looking for Rock Tape to help with the recurring shin splints I experienced for a while and I'm so glad I found them! I called them close to closing time to ask if they had Rock Tape and when they told me that sell it, they said they would hold the store open for me a little later to come get it! They also helped me find the right shoes to correct whatever I was doing that kept causing me to get shin splints. I will never go anywhere else! Whatever your skill level is as a runner, walker, triathlete, or any kind of athlete really, this store is for you!
