I have been to Shu on several occasions and have found some of my best shoes there: Sofft, Privo, Uggs, etc. Tonight, I just happened to stop in to see if they had bridal shoes, thinking they probably didn't. The sales guy asked to see a picture of my dress, asked what my shoe size is and disappeared into the back room. He re-emerged with several options that I never would have considered. I ended up finding my wedding shoes there and it saved me a trip to San Jose this weekend! Great store, great shoes and great customer service! read more

There is a 15 day return policy even though they don't tell you about it. BEWARE! The owners and the workers are rude, pushy, and have terrible customer service. I'm only giving them one star because I am forced to. I wasn't too sure about buying a pair of shoes because the right one was a little bigger than the left as it was on display. The man told me to take them home, wear them around the house for a while and if I didn't like them I could bring them back. 16 days later I tried to do just that and the rude idiot behind the counter hid behind the fact that there is a 15 day return policy and I should have come back the day before. He said I could come back when the owner was there and speak with him. I came back a second time when I was told the owner was supposed to be there and he wasn't. The THIRD time I went back to speak with the owner I spoke to another employee who was even more rude than the others. I have yet to speak with this 'owner' to complain. You would think that for someone who owns five small shoe stores in the area that they would try and be accomodating to the customers or at the very least tell people about the 15 day return policy. WHO HAS THAT!? No one has a 15 day return policy. Go to Macy's. They have sales and you can return anything at anytime with or without the receipt. Plus, the salespeople have a bit more respect for the customer than Shu. read more

I've never been so impressed with a shoe store! There are some improvements to be made, but for the most part, this is the place to go if you're looking for high quality, comfortable, durable shoes. Selection (7/10) : There's a lot of different types of shoes, a good price spectrum, and a large sale rack. However, this is a reasonably small shoe store, and it takes them a while to get new product. So checking back often is something of a waste of time. However, this also means that if you see a shoe you like, you generally have time to think about it. The shoe will probably still be there when you've made up your mind. Price (8/10) : As previously mentioned, there's a good range of prices here, but most of the shoes will tend to be more than $100. I give this an 8/10 because the prices of these shoes is appropriate for their quality. There is some decently high quality merchandise in this store, that is much more affordable than is typical for a shoe store. Service (7/10) : It depends who is working, and what your style is. There's a younger man that works here who is readily helpful with bringing sizes, answering questions, and generally being there when you need him. He is very unobtrusive, and will leave you to your own devices - not interrupting, interfering, or hawking over you while you shop. There is also an older man who works here who can come across as a more aggressive sales associate. He volunteers unsolicited advice about the fit of the shoe, or the look of the shoe, and he will stand there and watch you try every shoe on. He is extremely attentive, which may be a turn off to some. However, he is also extremely knowledgable. His advice is incredibly useful, once you get past his assertive demeanor. He knows a great deal about the fit of a shoe, and is more than willing to admit that a shoe doesn't fit, even if it means losing a sale. His intention is for you to buy a high quality, well fitting shoe. Not to simply make a sale. For less seasoned shoe shoppers, this is your sale rep. Following his advice could save you a lot of time, frustration, shoe-related pain, and money. However, you have to take into account that his assertive attitude is due to the fact that he truly cares about the welfare of his customers, and truly knows what he's talking about! Give his advice a chance before you take offense, and you won't be disappointed. Quality (9/10) : Great quality. I have five pairs of shoes from here. All of them I wear regularly, all of them have tall heals, and they're the most comfortable shoes I have ever owned. The shoes hold up very well, depending on the kind of fabric you buy (obviously). Comfort (9/10) : These are some excellent shoes. The fit is generally excellent, the heels are easy to balance on, and the shoes are very comfortable. Note: The layout of this store is great. There's space, and there's generally not too much foot traffic so you will get the full attention of the sales associate. The wood floor is slippery, but is excellent for trying out shoes (because you won't have to worry about an uneven terrain competing with the fit of the shoe). Buy here. Janielle, what's your deal? A 15 day return policy is what it is! They told me at the time of sale. Also, it's CLEARLY and boldly printed on your receipt! Can't miss it! Comparing a small shoe store to Macy's is ridiculous. It's not a department store! So you think you are exceptional and the return policy is only for other people? You are the kind of customer that tries the patience of everyone working in retail! And Macy's does not accept returns on sale items. No one does. It's also definitely not more pricey than Nordstrom. Nordstrom itself is "pricey." If you want to buy online do it and shut up. You can't try shoes on, online! Big difference. Plus shipping. read more

Highly doubt this store will be around much longer. Rude staff, horrid return policy. If I gave you cash for a pair of shoes and you won't do a cash refund it means you can't afford the refund. To offer me a check which takes over 2 weeks also doesn't make any sense. How do I know I will even get the check. Bad business. read more

Nice selection of higher-end, comfort shoes. A little bit marked up compared to prices you can find online or even at places like Nordstrom or the original manufacturers (e.g., Clarks), but it is Monterey, after all. The younger man and woman who work there have been pretty friendly during my purchases there. The older man (owner?) seems knowledgeable about his products and their specs. The older lady was more indifferent and less enthusiastic about helping me esp comparing her interactions with the older shoppers in the store. Perhaps I look too young/ethnic or not privileged enough to shop there, even though I'm willing to pay for quality if the salespeople are friendly. read more

I just came home from Shu where I bought some awesome jambu shoes to replace my vibram five-fingers while I'm pregnant and my toes don't want to stay in the separate compartments all day. The gentleman who helped me quickly found the sizes I asked to try and helped me put the shoes on (especially wonderful since my pregnant belly prevents me from reaching down to my feet very easily). He told me about the different styles of soles on the two different shoes I picked out and seemed very knowledgeable about the brand. Then he gave me some time to walk around in each shoe without pressuring me to buy either. He clearly explained the return policy when I purchased the shoes. Wow, could not disagree with Janelle more. This store is awesome! I've been waiting years for a decent shoe store to open in Del Monte Center, because I am so tired of the selection at Macy's. I found the staff to be super-knowledgable, which is rare, and they actually HELPED me with suggestions. The selection is great too, with some of my favorite brands, like Sofft, Born & UGG. I discovered a couple of new brands I'd never heard of too. I ended up getting a pair of sale shoes for a killer deal, and the salesgirl went over the return policy with me. Its actually printed on the receipt AND posted on the counter. I really enjoyed my experience at Shu and I like to support locally owned businesses. I am writing a very positive recommendation on behalf of an employee named Ash. I was looking for shoes this past Saturday with my Mom and we had the pleasure and honor of this young man showing us shoes and even polishing up boots that I was wearing that looked old and tired. By the time he finished polishing and buffing my old boots, they looked almost brand new. I haven't had service, kindness and knowledge in a shoe store like this in decades. i love shu! i love that they focus around comfort and then the fashion aspect. great selection. customer service is awesome. not alot of places offer a full customer service feeling anymore. sitting you down, sizing your feet up if you do not know your correct shoe size, picking out what they think is the best selection of shoes for your needs, and even putting your shoes on! deifinetly worth atleast trying the shoes on. you go to macys and no one really helps you... i love the sale rack. sometimes one can get super lucky!! great place to find shoes for lots of occasions! weddings, events, work, nighjt out in town. or even a trip to europe! i bought a pair of naots and i swear by them now. ive visited their other sister stores too and i love the stores! shu is favorite though! everyone should atleast stop by just to check it out atleast to get their own opinion on it of course! read more

I give this one star for the nice appearance of the store. I went into this store yesterday and left very disappointed. I was completely ignored by both employees in the store. A customer who was already in the store when I went in was being assisted by the woman clerk. A customer who came in about the same time as I did was offered assistance by both employees while I was completely ignored. I would not waste my time shopping in this store again. read more
