I really hate shoe shopping because it's hard for me to find shoes that fit. But I'm obsessed with this shoe store because they have a lot of unique brands that you can't find in other department stores and they are stylish. I called on Thursday to order my shoes and they arrived the next day! I'm not local to Carmel but in a few cities over so this is convenient so I don't need to make a trip down there. Their return policy is the worst. I bought some low-heeled pumps that felt ok enough in the store, but when I tried them on the next day, realized they were too high for comfort. I was staying in Carmel over the Thanksgiving weekend, and returned them the next day, was told they only do store credits, no refunds (the shoes were in perfect condition). The clerk pointed to a small sign on the counter stating their policy. I explained that the sales clerk who took my order took my card while I was sitting down and returned the shoes with the receipt with no explanation of their return policy. This is a ridiculous policy for a store in a tourist area. They do have a wide range of shoes, but I'll never shop there again. read more

Fell in love with this place--the shop carries umpteen types of super comfortable looking shoes, sneakers, etc. But this is not your basic comfort type shoe store. Unvaccinated sales people. While purchasing a pair of shoes, I learned the sales person who was helping me was not vaccinated. My friend and I are in our 70s and were quite shocked And would not have entered the store had we known. My friend was suppose to go back to buy another pair of shoes but will not. This little, indie shoe store has been around for as long as I can remember! I'm so glad it's still alive and kicking, since the rest of Carmel seems to be getting wealthier and more expensive by the minute. They offer hundreds of designers and at fair prices. I can't say they're DSW deals, because they do run high. But the quality of the shoe is what I care about most, and I'm always willing to pay more for a decent pair. I used to work in downtown Carmel-by-the-Sea and I also used to manage a retail business and today I have never seen worse customer service in my life! While visiting my mother and having lunch in Carmel, we decided to stop and look at Lloyd's since I used to love shopping there when I worked in town. Being that I have a new job I was actually looking to spend a bit of money and update my "professional" shoe closet. I've been dying for a new pair of Frye boots! We walked in and at first the young man on the floor was nice, said hi, asked how we were doing, the 2 girls behind the counter just stood there doing nothing. So we responded, said it was a good day and kept looking. Noticing that they sell Toms brand shows I remarked to my mother how at my previous employer we also sold Toms. So we were having a PRIVATE conversation about how neither of us really care for the company or it's politics (you can look them up). The young man then started to join our conversation; now this would have been fine, it's a good sales tactic if done right, but he was BEYOND rude. He started to say that they sell shoes because they make money, not because of politics. Not a good way to get people to buy things buddy! He then proceeded to ask my mother what it was about their politics she didn't like and as she tried to tell him, she mentioned reading something online, he stated "Well, tell me to look anything up online and I'll find it, doesn't mean it's right." Again, point taken, but not a good sales tactic a**hole. As my mother kept trying to explain herself, which she should not have had to in the first place, he kept interrupting her and talking over her and basically asking her to "prove her point." I tried my best to hold my tongue and at the point I stopped looking at shoes and already decided that he lost my sale. It was at that point as well that I heard the 2 girls behind the counter talking about us as well, HELLO right in front of you! For such an upscale area and high end market, you really should have better customer service. If I had an employee that behaved that way they would have been fired on the spot. read more

Lloyd's is awesome. I have bought my girlfriend shoes there for more than one birthday and the sales associates were always complete sweethearts. I wasn't even going to write a review until I read the negative one star review from the "local" below who clearly stole a pair of shoes... If you didn't, then why not just show your purse? How awkward was that silence while she stood there glaring at you while she knew they were in your purse? I hope the next time you do that you get caught. Don't believe that nonsense. Lloyd's rocks. Selection (8/10) : Excellent, and well stocked in standard sizes! There are some very cute, stylish shoes in this store. However, there doesn't seem to be as much of an accommodation for people who need an irregular fit, such as a boot with a larger calf, or shoes that are narrower/unusually wide, etc. The fit of these shoes is very cookie cutter. Price (7/10) : Great sales, good price mix (ranging from $50), but some of the shoes are more expensive than they really should be, considering the quality. Service (10/10) : Amazing. The sales rep who helped me was patient, energetic, and made useful suggestions. I tried on 20+ pairs of shoes and ended up purchasing only one, and the store was busy, so I mentioned that I could take the shoes out of the box myself (to free her up for other customers), but she declined the offer and was able to help a lot of customers, very thoroughly, all at the same time. I've rarely been so impressed! Quality (5/10) : There's a lot of good quality shoes in this store, but there's also an incredible amount of shoes that are not very good quality, and are not priced accordingly. The balance of most of the heeled shoes is not up to scratch. These shoes feel like they're easy to trip in, which is indicative of a poorer shoe design and implementation, as higher quality shoes are much less prone to this problem, even when the heel is higher. Comfort (5/10) : Most of these shoes were too uncomfortable to be considered practical for the cost. Hard bottomed, little support in through the heel, tough on the toes, and insecurely designed. These are the kind of shoes that are bad for your feet, your balance, etc. Expensive shoes should be more comfortable than this. Note on store layout: The carpet is easy to trip on, and uneven in areas, which makes it harder to test drive your shoe. read more

My wife and I spent a day down in Carmel during our honeymoon and of course she found every shoe place in the shopping district! Lloyd's carrys the high end of women's shoes with a great staff to make you and your feet the star. Thier staff was polite and quick to return with a size and the selection is very impressive for thier somewhat small square footage. I found their boot selection somewhat lacking, but it is the beginning of summer, so I won't fault them there. Either way, a great place to get a fantastic pair of shoes for the ladies. read more

Come here in a pinch. The sales associate who helped me was amazing! The store had a great selection! And...even better...they had exactly what I was looking for. After finding the shoes, the sales associate offered to spray my new shoes for me to protect them from the elements. This was super unexpected and beyond nice and helpful! Lloyd's is hit or miss for me as far as selection. Sometimes I find the most adorable unique sandals or heels and other times I find the selection a bit stodgy. Each time the customer service has been quite good. When I bought a pair of cute grey suede sandals on my last visit, Lloyd's treated them for me before I left. They always have a small wall with a few pairs of shoes on sale and they carry unique bags as well. So while the selection might be hit or miss, I always stop in when I'm in Carmel. When I do find something, it's usually not something others in VA will be wearing. read more

I went into Lloyds yesterday for the first time (I am a local) and was blown away by one sales lady in particular. I wish I had gotten her name. She had long dark hair, maybe 5'2 and I'm here to tell you this gal KNOWS HER STUFF!!! Having lived in Houston my whole life and spending the last year in Carmel I can honestly say the one thing Carmel is lacking is customer service. But when it comes to Lloyds, this little gal went above, beyond and well beyond! And not only was she helping me but 2 other ladies and she was keeping up with ALL of us! I mean who can do that??? Lloyd's is just plain so-so. They don't have the most thrilling shoe selection, and I definitely wouldn't call them the best shoe store around, but you can get something decent there in a pinch. If you like more stylish/less mainstream brands, there are other options in Carmel that are far more chic. On the other hand, if you're looking for a running/hiking hybrid shoe that looks like an chunky Mary-jane, or a very practical business shoe that wishes it were a Chanel flat, Lloyd's is perfect. They carry Frye boots, Stuart Weitzman, Toms... Pretty average stuff. The negative reviews I've read hère, and and the sour experiences I've heard from friends seem to focus on the service. My experience has been mostly nice at Lloyd's. In general the employees seem helpful. I agree with another reviewer that there is one employee who is very obviously grumpy, but not everyone is born with good social skills. To be fair, I think it's important not to dismiss the entire store just because of one bad apple/snotty salesperson. It can be a deterrent to shopping there, but if the Lloyd's selection is your style, then go for it. Some people like "so-so". read more

This is a review of the Lloyd's in downtown Carmel. I don't know why - but I've only discovered Lloyd's during the last 5 or so years. What a shame - I love this place. They carry a vast array of fun, unique, high end, and comfortable shoes. Yes, it's pricey (and I love browsing the sale rack in the back) but this is the place for shoes that you won't find easily elsewhere. The shoe selection here is not bad. They offer a nice variety of designers. The service on the other hand is inconsistent. I have had good service here and I've had extremely indifferent service here. It seems that there is one particular employee that is consistently rude whenever I go to this store. I have purchased 3 or 4 pairs of shoes from this person, but after my most recent experience I will be sure to avoid this store when she is working. I was trying on shoes and she came over and started boxing up 1 of the 3 pairs I was trying on before I ha deven had a chance to try the shoes. She didn't even bother to ask. Only 4 stars because parking is a bitch, otherwise, fabulous shoe selection. These are not your cheap, "made in China" shoes that they only sell at Macy's (I was just there and the sales person told me they don't carry European made shoes anymore) Picked up a beautiful pair of French Soles, it was a toss up with a pair of Corso Cuomos, the sales person was very helpful & friendly, bringing me other suggested selections to try on. I have been shopping at Lloyds for years and can honestly say every pair of shoes and every pair of boots I've ever loved and held onto came from this store. Their lines are top rate and range from the classic to the unique. As for their sales staff, I think they are excellent. Clearly their is a customer service training program at Lloyds that encourages them all to take an active interest in customers. I've just glanced at some of the Yelp reviews and as for those rare ones detailing a negative experience, well that tends to be reflective upon the hire, not the store as a whole. That being said, I think Lloyds enjoys a reputation as having the best shoe selection of any store in the area. They are consistently on top of their business, and I can always count on finding something wonderful underneath their roof. read more
