I had such a wonderful experience at Joy-per's Shoes in Salinas, thanks to Jerry, the floor manager. I have some foot issues, so finding the right pair of shoes can be challenging. Jerry was incredibly patient, kind, and knowledgeable throughout the entire process. He spent a great deal of time helping me try different styles and sizes, never making me feel rushed. Although they didn't have the exact size I needed in the shoe I wanted, Jerry went above and beyond by offering to stay in touch and let me know when new inventory arrives. That level of customer service is hard to find these days. If you're looking for someone who genuinely cares about helping you find the right shoes, I highly recommend asking for Jerry. I just left the foot doctor and he recommended a special shoe so I went to Joypers in Salinas. it was my first time going there. I was immediately asked if I needed help by a young woman name Samantha. She was incredibly helpfull. After doing an analysis on a machine they have she gave me some options and I tried on a few pairs of shoes. One pair fit like a glove. it was so nice to work with someone who is both very knowledgeable and friendly. I would recommend this place to anybody who want a comfortable shoe. read more

I just had my first visit at Joypers! They've been around forever tho. I wanted to check out their collection of shoes. I was able to find my shoe size and try on some shoes. I was able to order a pair that wasn't available in my size and color. I also found some really nice earrings. Joypers is a staple shoe store located in Main Street jn South Salinas. I wandered in because my pregnant feet are so swollen I needed something new to wear for our baby shower the following day. The staff was friendly and so helpful! They measured my feet and made recommendations based on both my foot length and width. I ultimately landed with a pair of Birkenstocks because they're Comfortable, good quality, adjustable and fit my swollen feet well. I have been coming to Joy-Pers for years, beginning from when I lived in Salinas in the late 1970s. Even though I moved to Monterey, I come back time and again to Joy-Pers because they carry the one brand (SAS) that fits my feet perfectly, each and every time. When I came in this time, I was looking to replace a pair of 7 year-old SAS sandals (they seem to last forever!). And even though it's September and past Labor Day, and I expected all the stock to be sold out, I trusted my good luck here. Samantha was able to find me the one remaining pair of sandals in my size that, of course, fit perfectly as though some cobbler made them exactly for my feet. It is such a rare thing to find this kind of service and this level of high quality shoes these days. Joy-Pers has a customer for life here, there's no need to seek elsewhere. I was referred by my orthopedic surgeon to come here (from Monterey) for insoles. Everyone was very helpful and patient, helping me try on many options and providing great service. I ended up buying a new pair of Hokas (like walking on a cloud!) and receiving 10% discount bc of the referral. They had to order my size but it arrived in less than a week, just in time for my trip to Europe. Added bonus, I got to pick custom color shoe that they don't normally carry! I've never actually looked them up on yelp before my bad experience. Sounds like I'm not the only one who feels like their lack of customer appreciation is both sad and frustrating. I remember going here as a little girl over 30 years ago for my Madonna Del Sasso school uniforms and 7-8ish years ago for my daughter's Notre Dame uniforms before switching to the Bay Area store. There's a bit of nostalgia here for sure. I went in a week or so ago to make a return with receipt. I understand the return policy but thought I would try since they were not worn and figured they still sold the popular brand. When I was told I couldn't get my money back because it had been over 30 days, I asked for store credit which they also denied. My problem with this policy is that my shoes were still currently sold in the store for the same price. They did check my shoes for any sign of wear before looking at my receipt. They proceeded because they were not worn but halted the transaction after viewing the receipt purchase date. I get if they didn't sell the shoes any longer or the shoes were clearance but no consideration was given at all. It makes me sad that a reputable and iconic store in Salinas has a policy like this. They would not have lost money if they gave me a store credit because they could still sell my shoes as new (and again for the same price). I guess I just don't understand that logic. I won't be back. I'm guessing they don't care, as I have read a TON of similar comments and their 2.5 stars reflects their regard for their patrons. Another oldie but goodie bites the dust read more

I believe the young man who helped me was named Andrew, I bought 1 pair of New Balance. He was so helpful and educated me more than any other shoe salesperson ever has before in my life. I ALWAYS get good customer service here. And it's so rare to find nowadays. I had to come straight home and write this review. I have hard-to-fit feet. And I don't always walk away with a new pair of shoes after a visit to Joy Pers. But I'm always so grateful for the customer service. It exceeds expectations. I would like to have walked away with 3 new pairs, but my size is not always easy to find, and then it doesn't always feel just right. I appreciated all the suggestions and trying on what they did have in my size. I wanted to buy a pair of HOKA but they didn't feel perfect. I liked the Brooks recommended but the fit wasn't perfect either. They have an excellent selection of inserts. And I had my feet tested or analyzed for the first time. I'm also a size larger (again) than I thought I would be. I'm 67 years old so I've tried on many pairs of shoes in my life. Andrew was the bomb. I sure hope I have the right name. Thank you for your excellent customer service and knowledge and for educating me on my question about a tall toe box. Joy-Pers prices are the same as Amazon and the makers website. I found that Joy-Per's Shoes carry items which can not be found in other shoe stores. I spent over $300.00 on a pair of shoes and a pair of PowerStep Pinnacle Memory Foam insoles. Since I had over a 45 minute drive to where I came from and needed to use their bathroom, I asked to use it but the store associate would not let me use their bathroom. Went there to spend about 200 dollars. I was denied entry. The reason: I am highly allergic to alcohol and you must use "their" alcohol based hand sanitizer. They offer no option. So I guess if you're allergic to alcohol you're not welcomed. So much for small business Saturday. read more

I was so surprised to see a pretty large selection of Stride Rite and PediPed shoes!!! These brands are well known for their quality in the USA. Yes, you can find a larger selection online, but you know how hard it is to pick something for toddlers. Plus, I like supporting local business owners.
