Marita's Boutique, Perfect hideaway treasure chest, Full and yes Full The entrance for me was way welcoming, with a surprise, a handy rail grip bar for going into the store and out. I really have to watch my every step I take, there were no steps yet a ramp with a covering of outside slip preventative covering. that was wonderful I felt secure with my footing. Entering I was welcomed by a wonderful sales person Monda, she helped me all the way through the hunt for the perfect top. Monda knew her product and knew my body saved me a lot of time and disappointment of pieces that would not be right for my body type. What a fun place. Great range of sizes and styles, comfy clothes, great prices, and the women working there really want to see you in great-looking clothes that look great on you. If I'd had time (and a bit more $), I would have loved to have them dress me! A lifelong dream--and they would have done it in a heartbeat. A lovely find for me today in PG. I've walked by several times but never ventured in. They do have a wide array of unique and edgy styles that I love in sizes up to 3X. Plus size clothing is often quite boring until you find a place like this that sells flattering and stylish clothes. Yes, the racks are quite packed and tight but it wasn't crowded so browsing wasn't difficult. I like having a lot to choose from. They had some great sales going on in both the clothing and shoe store two doors down. I scored some great finds. Very friendly, helpful sales woman too. I'm sure I'll be back. read more

Marita's shoes 547 Lighthouse P.G. I was excited to see this lovely store and the clothing section next door while strolling down Lighthouse in Pacific Grove. The store is well-appointed, and the shoe displays are attractive. The shoes are beautiful and range from casual to dress styles. The clerks were helpful and prompt. I love to buy shoes and handbags. Alas, although I chose four styles, none were available in my size. They offered a half size in either direction, but not my correct fit. So I had to leave empty-handed and that was a disappointment. Regarding the clothing store next door which is, I guess, the same owner, I can only say that it seems to stock an abundant supply of very large sizes. I think there were many beautiful and quality items but the display racks are too close together and much too tightly packed. Shopping is difficult. Parking can be an issue in Pacific Grove. Though it is free, most spaces have a time limit, after which, you must move your car. This can be troublesome. I recommend parking on a side street and walking a bit. read more

Today was my first time in Marita's Boutique, and it's my new favorite store for clothing! They carry XS to 3X in beautiful, stylish, colorful clothing. Cassandra and Cindy were incredibly helpful and gave me all the help I asked for without hovering too closely, which is important to me. I went in looking for a pair of black pants, and came out with two pairs of black pants, a gorgeous blouse, and a unique and colorful necklace. I will definitely be back next time I'm in Pacific Grove (I live 90 minutes away, but visit PG every few months.) BTW, I also shopped two doors down at Marita's shoes, where the service was equally wonderful, the selection was wonderful, and I walked out with exactly what I wanted. Thank you! read more

Very poor return policy (15 days) which doesn't reflect the type of clientele that shop here. This is a high end boutique but has a return policy that doesn't reflect high end customer service. I bought a pair of shoes, for about $140, a day or two after Thanksgiving. I gave them as a gift for Christmas. They didn't fit. I do not live in the area, so couldn't get back into the area until January 16th. When I tried to return them, they said it was too late. Not even store credit! read more

I usually make a beeline to Marita's whenever I am in Pacific Grove. The focus is on well-made, easy-to-wear women's clothing in natural fabrics. My eyes are usually drawn to some unusual jackets -- often a bit above my price range. Have had good luck with the "reduced" items found at the back of the store. My one complaint is that the racks are jam-packed. Sometimes "too much" is not a good thing when shopping. read more

Marita's sweaters And over coats had me wishing I lived in a colder climate than that found in Orange County, CA. A plus is they carry the Simpli brand from Canada. This is a difficult shop to shop in due to the way the clothes are on the rack. Racks are packed with clothing and not many sizes of each and very hard to find something because of this so give yourself plenty of time if shopping. Also, note the sizing is usually 1x and up, I rarely can find anything that fits as I don't fall in this range. My main issue though is that I purchased a $200+ top and I was told by the person helping me that it was a simple purchase to take care of because I could 'toss it in the washer and dryer no problem' as I was looking for something easy to travel with for work. I got home and because it smelled strong of perfume (not mine, from the store) I needed to wash it before wearing it. Before I tossed it in looked at the tag 'hand wash in cold water, hang to dry' is what the tag says. If I hadn't checked I would have completely ruined a $200+ top before even wearing it! They don't take any returns so I would have just been out of luck. Also, I now couldn't take it on the trip as I didn't have time to hang dry before leaving which was a bummer. I've purchased here several times and there are always quirks like this. It's the reason I'm not a regular. read more

Selection - 5 stars Pet Friendly - 5 stars Marita's is the kind of shop you get when you mix great selection (lots of size 14+); great fashion (amazing unique fashion finds) with a terrific owner. This place was very crowded on a Saturday afternoon. In fact, it was the busiest place in Pacific Grove. Lots of local women shop here and are on a first name basis with Marita. Her sale section in the back is terrific. She carried holiday party wear with what I consider "Chico" wear - just nicer (more structured, less rayon flowy things). Also, lots of jewelry from local artists at very reasonable prices. Marita is also a dog lover. She spent lots of time petting and cooing over Josie. Not sure she'd have the same reaction to a German Shepherd but she does like poodles. Good thing we live 80 miles away or else I could be dangerous here. read more

The window display caught my eye as I was driving by with my husband. They have unusual clothes displayed which is what I like. I decided to check it out. The owner, Marita said they have clothes from different countries. I was assisted by a very helpful sales lady. She brought me styles that she thought I would like. I tried on styles from a Cynthia Xiao out of South San Francisco. I tried on an artsy top a new line for this season which was pricey, but since it was my birthday oh well I'm treating myself. She also showed me an edgy red and black bracelet which goes well with the top. And yes got that too so I have a great outfit. If you like unusual designs come here you will definitely find something you like. read more

This place has helpful owners/staff. This week's theme for my reviews is accessibility. And their store entrance is too steep to navigate in a wheelchair alone. But two workers (or owners) came to help quickly and said they do it all the time. So on Shop Local Saturday in November I was able to make a purchase in a small business. I didn't buy anything but a gift certificate. But it's nice to know I can always come back even if I'm alone and get help right away. read more

I only can wear clip earrings and a few years ago when I asked Marita if one of the designers she sells could convert the pierced earrings to clip she did not hesitate to find out. At my husband's behest, I sort of reluctantly went in here, not expecting to find anything and not especially wanting anything either. But waaay at the back of the shop, I saw something that I couldn't resist and though it was waaay too big for me in a size 2x, because it was a 100% cotton, I came home and shrank it to perfection. It's a tartan check, purple, orange, red, yellow, black sweatercoat, which can be worn as both a heavy sweater or light coat. I love that it's made in India, and didn't lose color or bleed out during the hot water wash. As incentive for me to get it, everythi ng in the shop was 80% off, so it was a great score and for California weather, so temparate, this is going to majorly flexible. The service we got was warm and friendly, they packaged up the item in a cute bag and I got specially excited because it felt like a bit of a gift for myself due to the little christmas ribbon on the bag. This is my favorite clothing store in the entire SF bay area - hour's drive from my house in San Jose. They have a great selection of one-of-a-kind slightly artsy pieces in a large size range. This is store is a treasure. After seeing Yelp reviews for unique PLUS SIZE and regular size clothing I headed over after a conference in Monterey ended for the day. So very glad I did. With my senior citizen mother in tow, we ventured to this store about 45 minutes before closing. What a wonderful experience. The sales lady and her daughter quickly adapted to my needs in more conservative trendy clothing and molded their selections to my tastes in quick order. The service is old fashioned----you are free to browse, but I strongly recommend allowing them to bring you items. They know their lines well. They have an eye for body shapes and an ear for your needs. We quickly felt like long time customers. After several outfits, they were gracious in woking to order "just one more" with the company in my size which I'm sure they will ship later. We held them over 15 minutes or so, but never felt rushed or hurried. The women who work their are professionals and are the epitome of customer service. My only concern is how I will be able to return to Pacific Grove in the Spring to shop again ! My mother and I are already plotting how an early morning flight to San Jose and a late night flight return would give us a day of shopping at Marita's ! read more

Marita is a life saver. I had four outfits picked out and purcahsed for one wedding coming up this weekend and after trying on eveything again I was still not satisfied with the "perfect outift". I had chosen a beautiful sweater from Banana Republic I really wanted to wear, but had nothing to go with it except a black skirt or pants and I almost always wear black, but for this wedding, it would simply not do! So off to Maritas. Marita (first choice) chose the most beautifully classy pants that went perfectly with the sweater and she invited me to bring in my four pairs of silver shoes to help me pick out which to go with the entire ensemble. Such a great little shoe store. I think what makes this shop really shine is the service. Everyone who works here is so warm and helpful. They go above and beyond to assist their customers and are very cheery. For the kind of shoes they sell I think they are the best in the area. They have a very extensive selection of TOMS that aren't available at other nearby places. I like to stop here when I need that kind of casual shoe for the beach or mellow walking. And they don't mark up as much as other places. Marita's also surprises me with some super unique and sophisticated styles each time I go in. Whether it's a cool equestrian inspired riding-style boot or a pair of flats that actually look like ballet shoes (slightly squared toe and wrap around ankle straps or ribbons and all), I'm always impressed. read more

I haven't had service like this in 30 years. When you walk in the store you see that the racks are very full of beautiful, high quality clothes. (Think $75 -$100 for a well constructed pair of pants or dress shirt. Sometimes more.. sometimes less. Many unfamiliar and beautiful brands. What is really outstanding is the service. I walked in and a woman (who turned out to be Marita) asked me if she could help me. I mentioned that I was looking for a work type dress or pair of pants. She asked me what colors. At six feet and about average weight, I am not "typical." The next thing I knew, she very sweetly said "I put some items in the dressing room for you in your size if you would like to take a look. She TOTALLY pegged me. Clothing was all kinds of sizes, super special looking, and generally fit perfectly. Unbelieveable. As I tried them on, she somehow unobtrusively kept listening to my comments and brought items closer and closer to my taste. I ended up liking so many items that I put everything on hold and made my husband come back with me the next day for an opinion. I noticed another woman did the same thing, and two others made similar comments before purchasing. Her assistants are also excellent. Gosh, I wish this store was closer to home! read more

We are from out of town & my husband purchased a jacket from the men's store. He never wore the jacket & three days later he wanted to return the jacket with all the tags still attached because the fit wasn't as good as he had initially thought. They would only give him store credit. Be VERY sure of your decision before you purchase anything from these stores (shoes, women's clothing or men's clothing) especially if you're from out of town. We bear responsibility for not knowing their policy which was posted in a frame on the wall. I could understand if the tags were off & it had been month, but this wasn't the case. The sales person was very pleasant about dealing with our dismay with their strict application of their policy. read more

When I first moved to Pacific Grove, I wondered how I would ever find shoes and clothing again, without Nordstrom and a Macy's with Women's sizes. At the time I was a 2X and I have size 11 feet and need "comfort shoes". First, I discovered Marita's shoes. My size! My kind of shoes - in many brands and styles! A miracle! Just recently, I ventured seriously into Maritas women's clothes. Why did I ever think the soulless experience of Nordstroms was the pinnacle of shopping? Here were saleswomen who knew what would suit me, before I even knew. Rather than rifle through the racks and racks of clothing, I simply stood in the dressing room and waited for beautiful outfits to come to me! Beautiful, well made, glorious clothes! Not cheap!! But (as I found out after comparison shopping on Amazon, later), no more expensive than buying them online. And certainly nicer than Chicos clothes, at similar prices. And women of all sizes were being helped, as well. I'm thrilled to have such a wonderful shop right up the street! read more

Buyer beware! I bought a very cute pair of clogs that felt wonderful in the store. I wore them at home before wearing them for about three hours teaching. After three hours, they felt like a pair of bear traps! I had to change into another pair of shoes. I tried to exchange them with the receipt in a week's time. The size stickers were still on the bottom of the shoes! I was told no exchange. I was out $110! I felt the shoes were defective, right size, but very painful. Nothing was done to accommodate my complaint. Make sure you like your shoes before leaving Marita's. You bought 'em, you own 'em! No matter what! I will never shop at that store. again. read more
