I want to support local businesses. This used to be Run On. Fleet Feet came in. As a seasoned runner, I want a local store that can help me fit shoes. I need access to running supplies and accessories as well as running attire. Here are my recent experiences: I came in for shoes and they were understaffed and sent me away. Twice. I came in for running nutrition and they focused on shoe fittings and I had to wait for a few dollar cash purchase. They recently eliminated the discount for being part of the local running club. And they mismanage the national program. That's if you can use it when you are turned away. This is a detriment to the national program which has deadlines on when you can use their loyalty rewards. Being turned away cost me my loyalty rewards. The national program refused to renew them and told me to ask the to comp it. Ugh. So overall, I would like to see Fleet Feet McKinney make some changes that improve the experience. read more

Ermagherd, I love this place. I'm taking a trip to DC in a few weeks and was looking for comfortable shoes ; shoes that were made to stand or walk in all day. I wasn't looking for fashionable or trendy... just comfort... and I expressed all of this to the lovely gentleman who was assisting me at Fleet Feet. He had me stand on their foot measuring thing- turns out I have very high arches (I thought they were normal?) and I've been wearing the wrong size shoe- slightly too small. So he pulled some arch support and brought out 3-4 options of shoes that fit what I was looking for, and in the correct size, too. I did spend quite a bit of money on the final shoes that I chose (fair warning!) - but I was prepared to do that so I can enjoy my upcoming vacation. I have been coming here for many years. Sometimes to buy shoes and other times just to visually see the shoes before I order a pair off the internet. I brought my son here since he's not been home in many months. The shoes he's been wearing were full of holes and the soles were nonexistent. He runs daily to add additional information to this scenario. My child looked like a hobo! We had a great sales man, Alex, real personal, and he hooked him up with two pairs of shoes. Both pairs were Sauconys. He tried on Brooks, Nike, and other varies shoes. They actually measure the feet, width and length. They also watch you walk to see if you are a pronator or a supinator. I'm glad they do this. The customer is matched with the best shoe!! Another sale completed!! My son was so excited to leave with shoes that felt great. Run On! has a treadmill and an outdoor option pool to test shoes. I really like this about their store. At the check out counter, there are all sorts of fliers for running events. Run On is different from other athletic stores. It's not a Dicks or Academy. They sell one thing, running shoes and apparel. So, the prices will not be cheaper than an athletic store chain. You shop here for the sales associates' knowledge of running shoes. My son runs cross country and track. I didn't know the first thing about running shoes. So, I take him to the experts. I would rather spend extra on good running shoes then worry about my son suffering injuries. We found out he pronates and needs inserts to keep his foot stable when he runs. He's run track and cross country for 5 years without any injuries. I feel it's always been because he has had the right equipment. read more

What a great store! I drive by this place all the time and have always wanted to check it out. I have finally gotten to the point where I needed to buy some serious shoes because my feet have been hurting at work lately. I went in and was helped immediately. I told the guy helping me what my issues where and he took it from there. He measured my foot and watched me walk. He brought out several options and we talked about what was different about each of them. I made a selection and was very happy. Unfortunately, once I got to work, my feet and legs started to hurt more and more. Through no one's fault, they were hurting my feet more than before. So... the next day I brought them back (the receipt says there is a 30 day return) and there was no problem at all. The same guy was there and he took the shoes back with no problem. I didn't want my money back, just a different pair of shoes. He brought out another pair that I had tried the day before and we made the switch. It's somewhat of a shame this store takes a bit of effort to find - but maybe also that's a good thing because you have to WANT to go to a great store to come here. We lost our fav shoe fitter when the store he worked at (another brand) closed. We were recommended to try Run On McKinney and what a great recommendation it was. This is my 500th (!) Yelp review, and since so many of my reviews concern the truly first world problems of how tasty our food is (or not, as the case may be), I thought I would make this milestone about something far more important: keeping the body in one (mostly) properly functioning piece. With that segue... After having two pairs in a row from the Reebok outlet store that just didn't work for my feet, I decided that something entirely new was in order for shoes. I polled some friends and fellow Interneters about brands to try, but the overwhelming response was "Go to a good, full service shoe store and get them to tell you what you need" and a couple of them mentioned this place by name. With that, I headed to Run On! in McKinney (the town, not the district) and was greeted by the manager herself, who proceed to take over a half hour with me, trying on different shoes, watching my gait, measuring, squeezing and, in general, doing a very thorough job at analyzing my needs. I already knew that I was a supinator (essentially, rolling outward at the ankle, as opposed to the more common overpronation), and she agreed with the assessment and chose models accordingly. In the end, as fate would have it, the best fit for me was a "last year's model" from Brooks, which they had on sale, but not in my size. She made a couple of calls and found that the Run On! in Dallas had two pairs, and further, they were having a big tent sale on Saturday, at which time I could get an extra $10 off on top of the sale price! I went there on that Saturday and closed the deal, walking away (literally) with two pairs so that I could rotate them for better longevity. I've worn them for over a month now, and they're simply fantastic. So on this, the occasion of my 500th review, I urge my fellow Yelpers to take a step back and make sure you're taking care of yourself with more than just food and booze, and if you're needing some good athletic shoes to reach that goal, I know just the place. read more

Don't be fooled by the small store, this place has a lot of great options to keep you running fit and right! I knew I needed to come to these guys for a shoe fitting once I finally destroyed my running shoes and I'm so glad I did. Instead of having you pick out the shoe you think is pretty, they actually observe the way your feet move when you walk and when you run and then suggest shoes based on YOUR way of walking to help get you back to the right position. The shoes I have from them are the best running shoes I've ever had because they fit me right and get my foot into the right position at each stride. On top of that they can fit you from head to toe in gear that will make you happy to go for that morning or evening run, instead of dreading it. Absolutely check them out! Be very careful getting shoes from this store. The shoes that the sales person sold be were not in stock at this location and I was told that they would ship them to my house. It has now been over a month since this took place and every time I call the store I am told that they won't do anything about it but and I have to take it up with UPS. I have contacted the store several times and the issue has not been resolved. In my most recent call when I asked them why they would not do anything to fix my issue the person who answered the phone made up an excuse about the system not working today and then hung up on me. The customer service is horrible at this store so be careful once they have your money. read more

A friend of mine told me about Run On athletic shoes a couple of years ago but I did not go until last year. This is the way buying athletic shoes should be! The staff is very knowledgeable about their products and more importantly, how to fit your foot. I went to the Richardson store last year but found the McKinney location today to be the same incredible service. Before heading to the big chains where they hire the teenagers who have more interest in their phones & texting than helping you...Give Run On a chance, they will make you customers FOR LIFE! I even introduced them to a friend of mine today and he was blown away with their service as well! They also have running classes that train you for big events like marathons & stuff. I was in the market for new running shoes. I lucked out and got there before the rush. Logan is the one who took care of me. Great place if you are looking for a high quality pair of running shoes. The employees are very knowledgeable and truly know how to fit for a shoe the right way. They have a nice selection although if you are looking for something cheap go to payless- this place is about quality and yes you have to pay for it. They had running classes and groups as well as sign ups for local 5ks and marathon type events. They had all the specialty socks and gear a real runner might be looking for. I would have given them 5 stars but they could not get me a shoe that fits. I have very difficult feet and while I know they really tried in the end they couldn't even order me a shoe wide enough. This location's employees ALWAYS provide excellent service and advice. As a nurse who works in a busy emergency department, I am constantly on the move and my feet pay the price for it. Therefore, having quality, well fitting shoes as well as proper socks is a necessity. The employees here are great at evaluation of your gait (walking style) and making recommendations about which shoes will work best. To their credit, they have never tried to sell me the latest and greatest shoes. In fact, most times the style I want is on sale. I don't care if my shoes are the latest style, but they must fit comfortably all day. The store does a lot of community service in addition to selling great shoes. They have a donation box for old, usable shoes. Also, they have running programs for training and increasing your running abilities. read more

Run On! McKinney is the best place to buy your first or next pair of running shoes. Their knowledgeable and friendly employees make sure you're running in a shoe that's the perfect fit for you. They also have a great selection of running gear and clothes but my favorite thing about Run On! McKinney is the classes. In January of 2009, I could barely run a mile. After taking Running 101, 201 and 301, I signed up for the marathon class and completed my first marathon last December. Today, I'm still running with Run On! and just registered for my second marathon this November. I owe my running success to the experienced Run On! coaches and the great training I've received. I've made tons of running friends share the same goals and that help keep me motivated. Thanks to Run On!, running has become a HUGE part of my life and for that, I'm grateful.
