I got items picked up for a move from NYC to Paris today. I got a quote for 175cf which included a certain number of boxes (of different sorts), a workout bike and a medium mirror which final sizes were unknown by the team. I also requested a quote for a higher cf to make sure the $/cf would decrease with no surprises if my final size ended up being bigger. The sales person I talked with (Adam R.) offered to also include a table I was debating whether to move or not for free. I had no clue how many boxes of each kind I would end up needing, and asked for flexibility - which the sales team offered kindly before the move. I also asked 3 days before the move whether it was fine to add a mirror and a lamp (I agreed to pay for the extra if the final size ended up being bigger). They of course accepted. This morning the movers arrived, told me they did not have the table, the mirror and the lamp in their inventory and seemed surprised. The sales person was unreachable all day. The team ended up needing to add a few boxes to fit some clothes (2 wardrobes and some china boxes); the final inventory with sizes / item shows 204.6 cf. The table (I was offered for free) represents 25 cf in the inventory. Therefore I am 5 cf over what I paid for. The dispatcher and customer servie call me and first ask me to pay... $2000! They claimed that I was 150 cf over my quote. After spending 20 minutes (in a rather stressful day) with their appalling customer rep (and failing to reach the sales person during this whole time mind you), I managed to explain 5th grade multiplications and additions and they still claimed I was 64.4 cf over. The interesting part is that they used the 175 cf in my contract as a base, without knowing the sizes of what my items would end up representing and just added the extra boxes + table + mirror + lamp on top. They would not even acknoledge the signed inventory prepared by their team (I bought the option to have them pack everything to avoid any inventory / size issue, mind you). After 2 hours of calls back and forth I got the price down to 830$ that they claimed they offered as a favor (they made me feel like a complete crook over the phone and threatened to stop my move if I did no pay). I should be paying 5cf * the rate / cubic ft I was quoted which is ~75$. This is beyond dishonest and infuriating. (The movers were kind though and patient, they genuinely felt very sorry!). Be careful with this company, I had a previous move with them (local move) that went smoothly but they have lost my trust today. read more

I've been a loyal FlatRate Moving customer since 2018- they've done 5 moves for me. I've loved the service they have provided me in the past, but after my move today I will never use them again. I paid extra for the premium service. Despite that, the marble top to my dresser arrived at my new apartment cracked. They broke a Lladro figurine and a Mackenzie Childs cake server. The movers didn't wrap them in anything protective, so it was unsurprising that they broke. Additionally, multiple items are now lost. One of my bedroom pillows is missing (HOW is that even possible) and a bag with electronics also didn't make it to my new apartment (including a MacBook Pro and an Apple Watch), my bathroom scale is also missing. My bathmat also showed up with weird red and green stains that were definitely not there when it was packed. Again, how is that even possible? My sofa also didn't arrive- but they *claim* they found it and it will arrive Wednesday (I'm skeptical this will happen). To top it off, when customer service called because the movers alerted them to the issues, they didn't offer anything. They just said "oh I see claims has been in touch with you. Follow their process. Thanks". That's just absurdly bad customer service, especially for someone that has been a loyal customer for five moves. The lack of apology, professionalism and customer service flabbergasted me today. Stay away. A shame that they've lost a customer that would have used them for life had their service stayed consistent with my last four moves. read more

FlatRate moved my third floor walkup, 1 bedroom apartment this past May. I had contacted a number of movers to see about rates and after getting at least a handful, FlatRate had the best rate and the most consistent positive reviews. Thankfully they still had availability because I had to push my move back to the end of the month due to the outgoing tenant changing their move out date. Communication with FlatRate (shout out to Bernard!) was really great - polite, prompt, and clear. There were no surprises as for charges on the day-of - I've heard horror stories from other moving companies that won't be named about the cost going up because of this and that. I ended up paying exactly what I was expected to, which was great for my peace of mind. On the day of the move, the crew was also on time (actually early with my consent, which I was really happy about) and the movers worked efficiently and carefully to get my things to the new apartment. I had everything packed except for the TV and glass table, and they handled those items with care. The guys were great - it was a small crew and I was really impressed at how fast they went. Everything arrived to my new place safely. Very much appreciated how easy the move went, that the cost at the end of the day was accurate to my quote, and how nice Bernard/the crew was. Moving can be so stressful so it was such a relief to have a positive experience. Definitely recommend FlatRate! read more

Flatrate Move's salesmen offer a very convincing pitch, but my experience with them did not live up to their promises at all. I paid $2200 to move a total of 42 items, including boxes and furniture, from NYC to Athens GA. This price supposedly included the cost for a shuttle, so that we wouldn't have an 18-wheeler trying to drive through our small streets. However, when the movers arrived, they were in fact in the 18-wheeler so I don't know what the point of paying for a shuttle was. Additionally, we were told that the movers would arrive between 2-5pm. They arrived at half past midnight. Worst of all, 4 of my items could not be located in the van, including a large armchair, an ottoman footstool, a box of valuable books and a large box containing framed art. These items total at least $1000 in losses for me. It has been a week since the move, and although the company dispatchers have made vague promises to look for my belongings, I have yet to hear the results of any other efforts being actually made to locate my missing possessions. And this, despite the salespitch including a barcode system supposedly designed to prevent the misplacement or misdirection of items being shipped. Given the magnitude of my lost items, both in terms of physical size and value, and the cavalier attitude of management, I can only firmly recommend AGAINST using Flatrate Move. read more

I would not choose Flat Rate services again, not because of the movers, but due to the flawed sales process. The team, including the manager, failed to reach out after our account was neglected for a week following the departure of the initial salesperson, leaving us to seek assistance. The lack of customer service and follow-up created an uncomfortable experience, making me regret not spending an extra $300 on a company that promised excellent service from start to finish. I also requested a follow-up call, but it never came (only to be told that no phone calls communication can be done on my day of the move but only email) highlighting their poor communication. If you value effective communication and customer service when investing your money, consider opting for a company that prioritizes these aspects from the very first conversation. The movers, who are contracted, were the only redeeming factor in my experience with Flat Rate. This is just shows the struggle of companies no longer taking pride in their customer service aspec. We recently moved from our family home of 38 years We had to downsize and chose a three-day moving event with Flatrate Movers They couldn't have been more professional or helpful. We started with the moving coordinator Ricardo who came in assessed all of our possessions and made a moving plan. Then we were handed over to the moving team which was overseen by Erev. Both of these professionals were amazing as well as the lead of each moving team, as we had to all together ten people from Flatrate moving. The team packed up our home. moved us to our new home and transport our furnishings and boxes to a storage facility. Everything was handled with care and everyone was courteous and professional. I had a mixed experience with FlatRate Moving. The movers themselves were excellent--professional and courteous. However, the communication with certain staff members was frustrating. My emails and calls to Adam about the COI and follow-up details went unanswered multiple times, and I was often cut off when trying to answer his questions. Customer service was hit or miss; while one representative was helpful, reaching them afterward about an incorrect charge and refund was impossible. Additionally, my delivery was delayed by several hours, which caused a significant inconvenience. As someone in sales and customer service, I was disappointed by the lack of responsiveness and organization. Despite tipping the movers generously, I hesitate to leave a fully positive review until these issues are addressed. read more

We moved from NY to Florida and were very scared to hire a company and didn't know who to trust. Just had my household food delivered by Flat Rate Movers as the final leg of my return to the US after 5.5 yrs. they were amazing all the way through from Carlos who was my point of communication to the 2 kind and thorough men who actually made the delivery. They showed over an hour and half before the delivery window and were great about communicating with me all the way. They were fast and took away all wrappings and such leaving me no unpacking mess but my own. I would highly recommend them for whatever move, international or otherwise. I was moving my 1 bedroom apartment in nyc - My movers came right on time and were so sweet and super efficient. They packaged everything so nicely to protect corners of my furniture, around my mattress so it wouldn't get dirty, and wrapped all of my glass and mirrors with blankets. My father was also taking a number of items home with him and they packaged it all up for him. Everything was delivered just as I left it and only took about 4 hours start to finish! read more
