I have eaten here twice sense it opened both times the food was very good servers kind of snotty. Do not like the lay out feels crapped.I'm not into eating outside so have not there. Got the Chicken Micheal was amazing. read more

We ate here for Father's Day and our large party sat on the patio. It was a chilly day, but luckily they have patio warmers. I was very comfortable, but the rest of the table who sat further away from the heat source was cold. The service was amazing and the waitress was very attentive and professional. The bread that they brought out was really tasty and warm, and my husband's roasted veg soup was good. Our entrees were disappointing. I had the fried chicken sandwich on ciabatta, and it was soggy. I had the bulgur salad for the side and I didn't like it. My husband's burger was cold, but like I said, we did have a large party. Everything on the menu sounds really good, but did not meet expectations. I give four stars for atmosphere and service, but for a Gilmore restaurant, I was not impressed with the food at all. I would eat here again but stick to pasta or salad. read more

Get pizza, risotto, and apps. Everything else is extremely overpriced mediocrity. Same boring menu for years.

Love this place! The service is almost always great. The food is really delicious! The pizzas are fantastic and the brisket dinner is wonderful. The only thing I have tried that I wasn't impressed with is their burger, its Meh. read more

We used to enjoy coming here for the amazing food. In the past 2 years it has disappointed us every time. We will not be back. Steak on salad was overcooked. Salad was over dressed. My husband's fish sandwich had the smallest piece of fish we have ever seen on a sandwich and he got about 10 fries. Too bad. read more

Just fancy enough to be interesting, just real enough that you don't grow tired of it... feels comfortable & friendly, like Lowell, but it's not locally owned (Gilmore Collection). Nice place for dinner if you don't know what kind of food you want. Atmosphere is nice, always reliable & friendly service. Ahi Tuna app is excellent. Chicken Fettuccine is bacony-creamy good. Great pizza, dinner specials are seasonal and always tasty. Only $20 for the New York Strip, and it's good! The place is kid-friendly, but it's not overrun with kids, still nice good for a grown up meal. Kids menu isn't great, with one exception, the pizza - it's really good (the PBJ sushi chicken nuggets are "weird"...that's kid quote). The patio seating is not as good as the restaurant...the service outside is never as good as it is inside. There's a wait on the weekend, but Flat River is worth it. read more

Hands down, the best restaurant in Lowell and Grand Rapids. No only is it in a beautiful location, located on the Flat River, but the food is excellent and the staff very friendly. I would highly recommend this to anyone. read more

Called 30 minutes before they closed to see if it was too late to order. Staff on the phone assured me it wasn't, was very friendly and food was ready in 15 minutes. Delicious as always! read more

I love this place. Very reasonable prices for a Gillmore Collection restaurant and as always, great service and food. Just had another great evening there tonight! All staff members were very warm and welcoming and the food came out quickly. Great place! read more

Great service and yummy food:) Beautiful view as well! Highly recommend the margarita pizza and the caesar salad!

Food here can be hit or miss. The brussel sprouts are amazing! Sandwiches and pizza are so-so. Most dishes are overly salty and lacking in flavor. Service is usually pretty good. Quaint, small town location and feel. read more

This is my favorite, go-to restaurant for dinner and/or weekend lunch on the patio. The seasonal menu is always changing, which means there is always something new and appealing to try. We live in Ada and are so fortunate to have such a wonderful joint so close to home, without having to drive downtown. read more

Have eaten there several times. Every time I except to get a good meal but always leave somewhat disappointed. The food just isn't that good for the money or the atmosphere. Never had a horrible meal, they are always just OK. Service is always pretty good and it's a nice place. If your looking for great food, this isn't it. read more

We had a reservation for Valentine's Day at 7:30. After arriving at 7:27, we sat there for 15-20 minutes, watching couples that arrived after us get seated beforehand. Once we asked the host when we'd sit down, they finally took us to our table. The atmosphere was beautiful, though, and we sat in a heated sun room with strings of lights at the ceiling. We ordered an appetizer, don't remember the name, but it was the spinach dip. By far the best dip I've ever had! Unfortunately, when we received our entrees, we were highly disappointed... I had the something-Oscar (again, don't remember the name!) with the 4 oz. medallion steak & blue crab meat with asparagus and potatoes, while my boyfriend had the Chicken Michael. My steak was under seasoned, luke-warm, and tough to cut while the blue crab came in a very, very tiny portion. My potatoes were cold and hard and my asparagus was bland and cold as well. My boyfriend's Chicken Michael was steaming (that's a plus), but his shrimp were cold and he said they tasted terrible (like they were old and should have been thrown out). His potatoes and asparagus were like mine - not impressive. Our bill came out to be $75 - not a terrible price for dinner, drinks, and an appetizer that was supposed to be more upscale, but for the quality of food we received, I would never pay that much for it again. Thankfully our waitress was very nice, although she took a long time to get back with drinks and taking orders. read more

Perfect place to enjoy a classy dinner without going into the city. It looks out over the river, and even had outdoor places to sit in the winter. The food is excellent, the atmosphere is perfect. My husband proposed here, and I couldn't pick a more perfect place. read more

Awsome burger GREAT service ( Thank You Kaylee) Building very well kept Mens room was easily the cleanest public restroom I have maybe ever been in! Prices on the top end of the scale for me Overall great experience read more

There were two of us dining yet we waited 25 minutes to be seated. While we waited we had the opportunity to see there were 5-7 tables outside waiting to be bussed and at least 4 inside. My advice to management is to hire a bus person. The hostess went out and try to clean up some of the tables so good for her. We still ended up waiting longer, I guess for a server? Once we were seated we waited a very long time for our meal and saw people seated after us receive their food before us. Never a good moment cuz we didn't order anything tricky. When we did get our food which was "the special" the mashed potatoes were cold and the green beans had no seasoning of any sort. The fish was hot and was wonderful. We remained kind throughout the evening but we were sad it was not a better experience. read more

Food was pretty good when it finally arrived in the outdoor section that is a bit chilly. The water served had an off taste at the first refill. I asked the manager to correct the problem and was told nothing had changed. I asked the waitress for new drinks and she brought more beer. The beer was good. Finally the refilled water came and the manager was right nothing and changed. Good food and service but don't drink the water. Visited here several times before without a problem. Hoping to leave a great review if we try it again. read more

I only went once and that was enough. Service was incredibly slow, so slow it turned into a joke. Twenty minutes for drinks! Some of our party left without eating while others finished eating after waiting over an hour for their meals. I didn't get to eat at all! I couldn't wait any longer I had to go, the kid has school tomorrow. WE DIDN'T GET THE FOOD WE ORDERED. It never came to the table... EVER! I had to go to the counter and wait for it "to go" style. I ate it at home and it wasn't very good. Bland and disappointing. I'll never recommend Flat River Grill to anyone, unless they have all night to wait for mediocre food. read more

Had the salmon tonight it was delicious. My son had the kids salmon ... serving size was bigger than mine! He was one happy boy. Husband had the filet also great. Youngest is a picky eater but love the wood fire cheese pizza. Our waiter, John Folkertsam was super friendly and very helpful with making menu choose. Bread came out warm and delicious. Skipped on dessert because I had already made something at home but seen a couple things delivered and I think we try next time. Has outdoor patio seating that is closed in during the colder months and heated with stand heater right next to the Flat River. Very much enjoy the atmosphere and aroma of The Flat River Grill. read more

We went for our anniversary dinner and were not disappointed. Everything we had was delicious: fried brissel sprouts, goat cheese, white chicken chili, NY strip, honey pepper brisket, and creme brule. The food was served hot, server was attentive without hovering, and atmosphere was pleasant. Would definitely recommend and will eat here again. read more

Great experience! Came with a pretty big group of people one night and they were very busy. We got sat right away. Our waiter came right over to our table took our drinks and explained how he was just triple sat and apologized in advance if his service was not 100% and if we needed anything before he could return to flag him down. That was so kind and honest, not many waiters will admit they are overwhelmed and apologize in advance. He was so sincere, kind and funny. On top of that the food was amazing, all plates were hot, perfectly cooked and seasoned. We got the brisket, salmon and pasta and ate every last bite. Even though the waiter was extremely busy he still took the time to crack a few jokes with us and make sure our food was perfect. The service really earned this place the stars, excellent! read more

Service and food was excellent. I had the whitefish and it was great, loved the seasoning. They had no problem substituting my brussel sprouts (I can't eat them) My ceaser salad was also good. My friend had the southwestern quesidilla and she said it was very good. Our server was great he was there for refills and he checked up to make sure everything was ok, he knew the menu very well and very friendly. Drinks are always good. I live close and come here often, but I would travel to eat here also. read more

This place was by far one of the nicest places I've ever gone out to eat, truly a hidden secret gem of a restaurant. The service was absolutely incredible, everyone was so nice and the chef was truly talented. Possibly the best food I've had in a long time I would recommend this place to anyone! read more

This is a recommendation I hope you read. Last weekend we were visiting family in Michigan. We're from San Francisco, one of those 'foodie' cities, and we have different expectations for dining than what we find in my Mom's area. That changed forever from our experience at Flat River Grill. Molly Hale, the restaurant manager, and Eric Brigham, the chef, showed all of us what professionalism and hospitality looks like. We had planned with family to meet at the restaurant but didn't know they were closing early for their company party. Guess what? Molly and Eric told us to find a table, and they would make sure our family 'mini-reunion' could happen. The restaurant closed, the staff headed to their party, and we were graciously served an excellent meal. When does that kind of hospitality happen? The food was as good as anything we eat in San Francisco! Their pizzas are artisanal, gluten free options abound, and for vegetarians, we were absolutely delighted with the choices. The stand out experience here was the hospitality. We LOVED this restaurant and we will be back again the next time we're here! Molly, thank you for an incredible evening! read more

After my review, mgmt asked me for more info and is revisiting the cooking method for risotto with cook staff. They generously sent a gift card for a future visit. I appreciate the commitment to quality and added a star. read more

Went for the first time last night for restaurant week. Oysters were not good, odd combination of spicy and brine did not work. Gazpacho was so spicy my friend could not eat it. Chicken thigh was okay. Husband's skirt steak was chewy. Dessert flan tasted like it had alcohol in it. Love flan but this missed the mark. Quite disappointed in Gilmore Group lately. read more

I ended up in this place after driving to Lowell and realizing that sadly, Ella's was closed on Mondays. This place had good food (pizza, salad, and a fish entree, and a great spinach salad) and a beautiful patio, but it was a little pricey, hence the 4 stars. read more

Service was not up to par. Our server (Chris) was not able to keep up. We had to repeatedly ask for beverages, she missed an app order and at one point one person in our party had to leave the table to seek her out. Then there was the food. Half of the dishes brought to the table were cold. I had the risotto feature which was mediocre at best. The flank steak was cold and the top was cooked to medium well as reqested but the risotto cooked the bottom of the steak to well. The risotto was undercooked and lacked any distinct flavor -- they all just ran together and tasted excessively earthy. The bright spots were the white chicken chili (excellent) and the pizza is decent. Pricing is excessive for portion size. This was our first visit and will be our last. (Full disclosure -- the restaurant was busy. We were here on Saturday at 5:30p) read more

If I could give this restaurant no stars I could. First of all after we were seated, it took them 15 minutes to even ask us what we wanted to drink and when they finally brought us our water, our waiter, Danny, told us that the bar was "backed up" and had to wait 10 minutes to get our beer. It took an hour to receive 4 entrees, all the while observing patrons at other tables around us who were seated after us, receiving theirs before us. I ordered another beer, and after another 20 minutes had to remind my waiter about it. His comment was that the bar was backed up again. We only received three of our four meals, with the waiter saying the calamari would be here in a minute, which actually took another 15 minutes. The Dill Chicken Pizza, my daughter ordered was disgusting. The Angus burger I ordered, tasted like old refrozen beef. The Chicken fettuccine was bland and the chicken was dry and tough. The Caesar salad had way too much anchovy in the dressing so therefore, quite fishy tasting. (but the croutons we're good) After waiting the long while for the calamari, we expected it to be superb, but alas, it tasted like it came from a pre-breaded GFS bag found in the back of the freezer. Luckily, Danny told me he would only charge half price for that dish, since it arrived so late. He asked us if we needed boxes for our leftover food and we said"No thanks" and he kind of looked at us in a weird way and then asked us how we enjoyed our meal. I responded, "Do you really want an honest opinion?" He paused for a second and said, "I don't think so". I think the Gilmore Group needs to concentrate on making their existing restaurants offer more unique and flavorful food choices that are made with quality ingredients, rather than trying to see how many establishments they can have under their name. read more

A great place to try something new! Also has happy hour from 2pm-6pm, with excellent prices on a variety of items.

Wonderful food and service. Everyone tries hard and it shows. We return from time to time. Always pleased. Thanks...

My husband and I ate here in 9-10-2016. It was the worst meal I have ever had in an establishment that is supposed to be a little north of average. I ordered the whitefish. Do not order it, actually FRG should remove it from the menu. The fish tasted as though it had been thawed and not cooked, or thawed and microwaved. It arrived with a bit of parsley sprinkled on top, that was it. The "asparagus, tomato salad" that was supposed to accompany it was four grape tomato halves and the tiny top of ONE asparagus. Our waitress was slow and didn't check with us after we received our food to find out if it was tasty. I know why she didn't ask. My husband had a pork chop that was one half bone. Oh, I did have the seafood chowder and it was the highlight of my dinner. Without drinks and tip, our bill was $50. What a waste. read more

This review is based on service only as we never got a chance to eat anything. While planning a family birthday dinner tonight we stopped in earlier to look at the menu. We inquired about reservations and were informed they do limited call ahead seating. The hostess suggested coming at 6. 15 minutes before arriving at 540 I called in and spoke to Rick to see if we would have a wait. He said no problem on seating immediately on the heated enclosed patio. Upon arrival I informed the the young hostess that we should have a table for 5 on the patio as we had just called ahead. She looked at me like I was speaking in tongues and informed me that that was not possible and that we would be waiting at least 30 minutes. I said no we wouldn't turned and left. I have to thank the snotty teenager as we jumped in the car and drove to the Green Well 20 minutes away. While driving there we called and were informed there would be a short wait. No problem. I don't mind waiting when I know that I will be. The food here is AMAZING. Service is spot on. So anyone looking for a great dinner I suggest The Green Well read more
