What a GREAT experience it was having breakfast here. Our waitress was attentive kept bringing the coffee, which seems to be a lost art at most places. Had the slam breakfast and may I say Wow regarding the size of the pancakes that came with meal, so delicious! I had to try the jelly everyone keeps mentioning again Wow, so darn good. The jam is a must have. Tried it because it came with the food, and we bought extra of it. The service was really fast and very attentive. It was bottomless coffee's and our cups were never empty. This was a very impressive diner! They have a good size menu to satisfy anyone that stops by and everything on the menu was $15 or under! A home cooked meal for that price you don't see very often. We went for brunch so I opted to go for breakfast. The chorizo scramble was delicious. I wish there were more jalapeños on it but other than that it was a hit. The "Halfway Diner" is a gem! From the looks outside most would probably drive right by. It is located halfway between the Beltline and Greenville so if you've never been here you would probably drive right on bye. But, that would only happen once because once you stop you are hooked. The food is fantastic and the staff is outstanding. Everyone is treated like family. It is our favorite. We probably go there two to three times a week when we can get in. Too many people have found this place so if we don't get there early they are out of the specials. But they have plenty of other delicious things on the menu along with homemade desserts. Stopped in this morning for breakfast and was not impressed. We were one of two 'groups' of two who had to wait for a table. While they were clearing two staff and a customer stopped doing so to have a nice little chat. Once we were seated and our drink order was taken we had to wait 15 minutes for our waitress (different than the other ones) to stop socializing with the table she had been at for 10 minutes prior to that to come take our order. I understand it's a small town and people know each other but she should have taken our order then went back to visiting. No one except the host and the busser/runner seemed to care that they were at work. It was just before 10AM and no coffee was available. By the time our food came out at 10:15 my husband's home fries were cold, he said they seemed like they had just been taken out of the fridge. Went to use the restroom before we left and that was out of order (one stall for each men and women) and my husband said the mens was not working either. We have been there 3 other times and the last time was slow but they were busy so we gave them the benefit of the doubt. After this we will NOT be back and will be looking for a new breakfast spot along this route since we take it regularly. read more

We tried out the halfway about six years ago. I think it was under different owners at that time. Never went back because the food was not good, the seats were all ripped up and it was dirty. We thought we'd give it a try under the new owners and boy, was it a great experience! We even ended up going twice in one week. Food is excellent. Very ample servings at this roadside diner between Sparta and Greenville. Our huge serving of onion rings was enough for four people - we could eat only half of them. They were greasy but good enough to eat! The sandwiches were also huge. My BLAT was very good, but again, too much for one meal, especially given the very significant serving of waffle fries. Patti's Reuben with waffle fries was also over ample. So we didn't eat as much as we ate. And we did not appreciate being told by the kind of dingy waitress that the waffle fries were available at no extra cost - only to be charged for them as an "upgrade." Shame on her! We may come back, or we may not. Sometimes customer service is as important as the food. The food is fine here, but the waitress needs to be more careful about what she says. Not OK. read more

Worst experience ever. Don't recommend. Terrible customer service. Even saw 2 waitresses arguing over who's dish it was to bring out in front of the two people at the table. Waited over an hour for food we didn't even eat because it was so burnt and disgusting. This is the first place I have ever been to that has closed an hour early because they were overwhelmed. Except they didn't lock the doors so people were still coming in to get turned away by getting told " we're closed". Being a server myself I was highly disappointed with the customer service and they need better staff. read more

My husband and I travel a lot and always like to try Mom and Pop places instead of chain restaurants. We stopped here for lunch regardless of rating and we're glad we did. We had the soup and salad bar with fried mushrooms (homemade batter) appetizer. The mushrooms were good. We tried 3 different homemade soups because each one was so good. They were all very tasty. The salad bar had a big selection of items. Everything was fresh. Looking at our neighbor's plates, the burrito was huge and looked great. Another lady said that the special (goulash) was very good. We also tried the homemade cherry pie....unbelievable Prices are reasonable. The service was great and our waitress as well as the others were very friendly. If we ever get back in the area, we will return to this diner. read more

Huge mistake trying this place. From the second we walked in the door, the experience was rough. The "sign in" is a piece of paper (you are supposed to know this even if you've never dined here before), which you can apparently add your name to the top (why mess with the bottom?) if you're onto how things work here. Once we were finally seated, we waited several minutes with no wait staff even acknowledging us for drinks. A well-managed place would have had a host offer beverages or at least check on us, but this didn't happen here. We apparently offended the staff by finally approaching a manager to ask for service. After that we literally got the cold-shoulder treatment and a hostile hand waive when our sullen waitress walked by to serve another table. The kitchen isn't any faster, folks. It took an hour from the time we walked in to the time we were served food. My request to omit the toast (due to wheat allergy) was ignored. The portion size of my scramble was tiny (approx. one-third of the plate), which was perhaps why the toast was included -- to make the meal look larger. The menu listed mushrooms as included, but I needed my reading glasses to find more than two tiny mushroom slices. Ah, well -- it was just as well because the food was excessively salty and there's no fixing that. Learn from our experience and avoid this place; there are much better managed and staffed choices out there and certainly places with better food worth the long wait. read more

I went there with a large group of family members. They went out of their way to make us comfortable. I ordered the prime rib and egg breakfast and was very happy. The entire family enjoyed the food, but were even more impressed with the service. I believe it was the best service that i have EVER had. Even if the food sucked, i would go back just for the friendly and professional service. If i didn't live 5,000 miles away, i would go there weekly for breakfast. I will be back. Mahalo read more

Waitress was very nice but the service wasn't the best kind of service but it was okay. got the food everything was good besides my sausage patty I ordered it was raw and not cooked at all I bit into it and I could tell it was raw.... after that I basically lost my appetite.. if you're going for a little hole in the wall mom and pop shop that you can't really trust the beef go ahead and try it read more

This restaurant opened in 1948 and I don't think anything has been updated since then. Felt like we were eating with the cast of the movie Deliverance. Prime rib sandwich was average but the all you can eat Friday night fish special was not edible to either of us. Should of had a clue when we pulled into dirt parking lot and saw lots of Trump bumper stickers if you know what I mean. read more
