    Hot Beef with Mashed Potato's
    Dennis E.

I stopped here at 12:30 for lunch and I was seated right away. My server came right over and gave me a menu and took my drink order. When she came back with my drink, I ordered the Hot Beef Sandwich along with mashed potatoes. After a short time, my meal was delivered, and it looked really good. There was a beef sandwich that was totally covered in rich beef gravy. In the center of the plate there was a big pile of mashed potatoes. The beef was extremely tender and flavorful. The beef gravy was creamy and rich, it covered very stiff mashed potatoes. They were cream and the gravy was perfect on top. The overall experience was very good. I felt I received more than my money's worth on the meal and the service was good as well. This is a nice little diner with a great vibe to it. I will be back.

I've been going to Shelley's for a couple of years now for breakfast. I've always enjoyed whatever I've ordered there . I typically order just standard breakfast fare. But what I've always liked about them is that although they have the same traditional foods that you might order at any greasy spoon, they are not greasy. It's nice to have eggs and hash browns that aren't swimming in fat. My wife ordered the bagel sandwich. And the bagel was delicious. It was very moist inside. Almost like a New York style boiled bagel. But we asked the waitress and she said they are just regular bagels. We forgot to ask the brand name. But I would like to know. Don't let the appearance of the outside keep you from coming to this little place. It's actually very nice and clean inside. The only reason I didn't give this place a five rating? Is because it is virtually inaccessible to handicapped people. If you are in a wheelchair or a walker, you'll have no problems getting up to the doorway. But the doorway is not very wide and not many wheelchairs would be able to get through it. And even if you could, the aileways are narrow and there would be no place to pull a wheelchair up to a table without blocking off the entire aisle. And it would be virtually impossible to get a wheelchair into there bathroom. Is there tables fixed against the wall right next to the doorway that you wouldn't be able to swing around to get in. If the door is even wide enough to get a wheelchair in.

    Shelley's Omelette with Potatoes

BEST OMELETTE I've ever had. My go to omelette place in Grand Rapids! I always get the Shelley's omelette, it has perfect ratio of avocado and cream cheese. Which I had never seen on an omelette before I stepped foot in here. Now I look for it anywhere else I go, I don't find it!! To be honest I've tried to recreate just the avocado and cream cheese ratio but it just cannot be done. You NEED the original to satisfy that craving. I now live farther away and sometimes make the drive up just for this place.

    Chocolate chip pancakes, huge

Shelley's Kitchen is the perfect place to stop in for breakfast before a busy day hitting up breweries in Grand Rapids Beer City. We came here for breakfast after our first night and it definitely reenergized us, fueled us for the day and hit the spot. It's definitely a hole in the wall, local dive diner with lots of charm, great food, and awesome friendly service. It's a small spot and we were lucky to grab a couple booths, as other patrons were leaving, for our large group of seven, on a busy bustling Saturday morning. The booths were pretty small and could have been more comfortable which was really my only complaint. The food was delicious and they gave huge portions. The menu was large with lots of options including egg, meat and potato combos, eggs Benedict, omelettes, pancakes, waffles, soups, salads and sandwiches. I chose the chocolate chip pancakes combo served with two strips of bacon and two eggs which I chose scrambled. The pancakes were HUGE! The size of my face! I probably would have just ordered the pancakes ala carte, had I known their size. I thought they were going to be more like silver dollar pancakes. After eating one, I was stuffed and surrendered defeat. The chocolate chip pancakes tasted homemade and were super fluffy and delicious! The eggs were also very tasty and the bacon was cooked perfectly crispy, just the way I like it. The coffee also tasted great. Another one of my friends ordered the tuna salad sandwich and a cup of soup and she also enjoyed it. Our server was friendly and attentive and our water glasses and coffee cups were always kept full and she checked on us frequently throughout our visit. She did clear our plates kind of hastily though and would have liked to have been offered a to-go box for my leftovers. Overall though, I had a great experience here. The food and service were great and I'd definitely recommend and return the next time I'm in town for breakfast.

At first I was hesitant because of the price, and it being biscuits, but they made me eat those words and more. It was like a large biscuit muffin top with jalapeño, cheese and honey glaze (I think) and it came with a white cheddar cheese sauce to dip it in that was outrageously delicious. For a guy who hates cheddar biscuits, I've got to say I'm blown away. My wife ordered the steak with fingerling potatoes and carrots. It was on the pricier side, but yet again well worth it. The steak was cooked perfectly, and the veggies were pretty good too. They had live music playing as well tonight. It was a jazzy kind of vibe and it didn't over power anyone talking or anything. The guy had some serious skill too. To top it off, we had some pretty killer service from everyone there. From the hostess taking our names, random servers walking around, and our fantastic server (I forget her name but she was blonde and worked upstairs and had a a really great attitude. The expo or food runner dropping our food off anticipated us possibly needing an extra plate and brought one without asking which was super awesome and ended up coming in handy ( I knew my wife wouldn't finish that steak alone) and she brought it without asking and was ready with a smile to get more. I used to be a GM (I hate when people use this saying but...) truly I know how hard it is to find good workers and the folks running it here seem to have it down. I come from a place where you have to drive 100 mi or more for average service. So seeing exceptional service is really almost too good to be true. I'd definitely stop in for a bite. It's worth every penny. We'll be back for dessert, they have seasonal crème brûlées!

I dined at TOG today for a business lunch and, unfortunately, my experience was very disappointing…read more At the end of our meal, I asked for a to-go box because I had barely touched my food. My guest and I spent most of our lunch talking, and I left with nearly an entire meal. About 20 minutes after leaving, I realized I had forgotten my box and immediately called the restaurant to see if it was still there. The young lady who answered the phone asked where I had been seated. I explained that I was at the very first table at the front of the restaurant. Within seconds, she told me there was nothing there. Her tone made it clear that assisting me was not a priority. Given that the hostess stand is located at the back of the restaurant and I was seated at the front, I do not believe there was enough time for her to actually check before dismissing my concern. After I sent an email regarding the situation, the hostess responded that she had walked through the restaurant looking for the box. Based on the timing of our phone conversation, I find that difficult to believe. In her response, she also stated that she checked with the servers after our call had ended, which suggests that no real effort was made while I was on the phone. What is most disappointing is that I am a regular customer. Today, I paid $56.00 for lunch for myself and my business guest. Between a server who was largely absent throughout the meal and the dismissive interaction when I called about my forgotten food, the level of service fell far below what I have come to expect. Everyone has an occasional bad day, but customer service is often defined by how issues are handled after something goes wrong. In this case, I felt dismissed rather than helped. Unfortunately, after today's experience, I do not plan to return.

My first review was a terrible review because they had not learned their tablet system yet. My wife convinced me to come back anyway, and the second time I was hooked on aunt Anna's house. Unfortunately, after attending several years together and eating the finest of foods, my wife passed away in November 2024. I miss her dearly but one day I summoned the nerve to go in there on my own. It was right after my second of five surgeries I've had since November. I walked in and I was just recovering and I felt terrible, but I felt the need to go to church. So I stumbled in slowly and said to the server I just had surgery and I'm in no hurry and yet I'm in a hurry I don't know what I'm in... The servers name was Angie and the rest is history, it turned out. She: had had five surgeries of her own, and she was an empath all the way. Hugged me, made me feel welcome, introduced me to two other awesome servers, and their names are Victoria and another one of my favorites Avery. Avery is the one I call "a very good time." Now some might take exception to that nickname, but Avery loved it. And me and her can do no wrong with each other even though she's 50 years older than me. She not only is a great server, but she's my counselor there. I was having some LUV problems and Avery straightened me out. And if she didn't, Angie would've. And then Victoria is a content developer for Instagram, which I think that's just a normal user of Instagram but she's really cool and I think she didn't liked me at first. I said "Are we ok?" and she looked at me and said YES... so now next time I'm gonna ask for her to serve me because she is the bomb. Now the food is the real draw at Anna's House. Their menu cannot be topped. They have items for everybody from serious meat eaters to prudent young vegan eaters. Having mentioned the surgery during Nov-Apr, my system has sort of reset, and now I crave healthy foods. So the last time I've gone to Anna's, I've gotten Açai Power Bowl, which was great and then an another power bowl, which they have on the menu. You cannot go wrong with either one and on each case I could only eat about 3/4 of it because I just felt filled and satisfied from them. Being an egg, bacon, toast, pancake, kind of guy, this departure from my norm was, well, I never saw it coming. So just to summarize here the four people I know at Anna's house: Angie, the manager of seating and serving; Callie, the general manager, Victoria server level one, and Avery server level zero if there's such a thing... Oh never mind we'll just give her one as as well as Victoria. And if you want entertainment choose Victoria, but if you want care and compassion that would be Avery. A very good time... Lol. So if you're there on a Sunday, you'll probably see me. I'm gonna put a couple of pics down below and I'm sure you're gonna go. Oh that dude well, I'm staying clear that restaurant...
