Very solid diner with a great selection of breakfast items! No bells and whistles, just straight forward food.

First time I had a dish called The Cook's Breakfast which was biscuits and gravy topped with corned beef hash , cheese and two eggs. Came back two days later with our friends and got the lemon blueberry French toast and some eggs with a side of bacon. Everything was perfectly cooked both times. The server was absolutely amazing as well!! Will definitely come here every time I'm in Rockford.

Breakfast at Evergreen Inn…read more This morning, in the spirit of liberty and breakfast carbs, I ventured out to the Evergreen Inn to celebrate the Fourth with a fork. Their specials board boasted a short stack paired with a choice of meat--how could I resist? I threw in a couple of scrambled eggs to round things out and waited for the fireworks (on my plate, that is). The pancakes arrived looking like golden perfection--fluffy, inviting, ready to be drenched. Unfortunately, the syrup rations were a bit...conservative. I wouldn't say stingy, but let's just say I had to request two more cups to give those cakes the celebration they deserved. The eggs? Fine. Serviceable. I suspect they started life in a carton, already liquefied and waiting for their destiny. The sausages were decent, the chocolate milk was nostalgic in all the right ways, and the cutlery had clearly survived a few wars of its own. And the ketchup--oh, the ketchup. A bottle proudly labeled "Fancy" does not make it so. If someone brought that stuff to a backyard BBQ, I'd stage a condiment coup and return with a bottle of Heinz. Now, let's talk ambiance. The place is *kind of* clean--clean-adjacent, clean-curious, but not quite committed to the title. Still, nothing alarming, just...comfortably lived-in. What it lacked in polish, the staff made up for in personality. The lone waitress holding down the fort was kind, attentive, and clearly doing the job of three people. Any service slip-ups? Forgiven on the spot. The bill came in a little higher than anticipated, especially for a daily special. But with few breakfast contenders in the area, Evergreen Inn knows it has the home-field advantage--and it's charging rent. Still, the pancakes alone were worth the visit. Just bring your own syrup--and maybe your own ketchup, too.

I called to discuss with management this morning but feel like our conversation fell short of understanding or resolution. I would like to note that I have never left a bad review and have certainly never reached out to contact owners, managers or staff of any establishment but feel this matter needs attention. Please allow me to explain. Last night 4/9, my sisters, grandmothers & I went to a performance at Devos in GR. After the show we researched and discussed options of where we could eat at that time of night. We had several options but my sister mentioned the great food at the Tavern. Your website advertised family friendly late night dining. We called from the parking garage to confirm Kitchen hours and were told 11:30pm so we headed that way, arriving 10:30-10:40. One of our grandmothers is blind and 89 years old so we helped her up the steps and led her to a low table in the back. Our waitress took our drink orders and when we asked for menus she said that she did not know if we could still order food and checked her watch. We mentioned that we called ahead and they said the kitchen would be open until 11:30. She returned to the table with menus and let us know that we could only order from the appetizer menu of fried food at that time of night (no problem) we are not difficult customers. We ordered 8+ appetizers for our table of 5. Our waitress checked her watch consistently throughout our time there. We appreciated the quality of the food and willingness to accommodate us at a clearly inconvenient time of night for trying to catch a bite. Half way through our meal a song played that would make even the most vulgar squirm if they were at dinner with their grandmothers. It would have been horrible in any situation but we tried to carry on conversation to distract from what was happening. I ended up waiting it out on the bathroom to get away from the entire situation. My sister (27) said that it was the most uncomfortable moment of her life and a night we certainly won't forget. I did not see a jukebox and at the time thought it must have been an employee trying to run us off as there's no possible way it would be on a Playlist. The next day I still felt that the situation was totally unacceptable as we could have visited a number of other restaurants between Grand Rapids and Midland. The majority of us from Montcalm Co. So I called to speak with management. She explained that it must have been a customer playing from the jukebox and that there is no way for staff or management to control what customers can play on the jukebox. She said that she has also been surprised by a few of the selections so I mentioned the specific song, a version of my neck my back (the most sexually explicit song possible). I find it hard to believe that there is no way to override the system or simply change the song. Are you telling me that a smartass 14 year old boy could play this song on a weekday afternoon while he's there with family and there's nothing you can do about it? I find that very hard to believe. She reiterated that there is no way to control it and hoped for a better experience next time. She did say that if I called back with waitress information she could address the service we experienced. Is this possible that there's nothing staff, management or owner can do to prevent or stop such a thing? Would you enjoy a dinner with your family with a slowed down version of this song playing louder than conversation can overpower?

Breakfast Adventure at The Peppermill Grill in Rockford, MI…read more The Peppermill Grill is a little diner hidden deep in a quiet Rockford neighborhood. If you didn't have Google Maps, you'd probably drive right past it. I finally found it on a cool morning, and when I walked in around 9:15, the place was calm and cozy. Only a few tables were taken, and the locals were chatting over coffee like old friends. The staff was amazing. Everyone was friendly, fast, and made me feel welcome right away. The diner was very clean and had that classic old‑school charm that makes you want to sit and stay awhile. Then came the main event: the All‑American Breakfast with American fries and a "large" chocolate milk. Here's how it all went: * The Chocolate Milk It tasted great--nice and chocolatey--but the "large" size was just a regular glass. I could've easily finished two. * The Eggs Two sunny‑side‑up eggs, cooked just right. They were runny and delicious. Still, I kind of wished there were three. * The Ham They gave me a big piece of ham, so the portion was great. But the flavor was pretty mild. It needed a little more seasoning or smokiness to stand out. * The American Fries These chunky potatoes looked good, but some were undercooked and none had seasoning. They really needed salt, pepper, or something extra to wake them up. * The Toast The wheat toast was buttery and fine, but not very crispy. More like warm bread than real toast. There were a few bright spots, though. The ketchup was top‑notch (pretty sure it was Heinz), and I loved the fancy salt and pepper grinders on the table so I could season things myself. In photos, the plate looks awesome--especially that giant piece of ham--but the taste didn't fully match the picture. The service and the cozy vibe were great, but the food didn't quite hit the mark for me. If you live nearby or want a simple diner breakfast with friendly people, The Peppermill Grill is worth a try. But if you're visiting from out of town, it's just okay. The people are wonderful, but the food needs a little more flavor to make the trip feel special.
