They overcooked our seafood pancake, the beef cheese fried rice was decent, just greasy, the rice cake w ramen was super sweet, they have added nothing but sugar. The Kalbi soup was alright. We went for dinner recently and was surprised we got a table right away. It used to be a long line out the door. Once we sat down we noticed the menu change and price hike. The menu is now so much smaller than before. The new items they promote are fusion dishes with corn and cheese. When I go for Korean food, I want the traditional dishes. I'm glad they keep some of my favorites like the bulgogi and short ribs. They are still good but wish they were much less sweet. Korean food in general is getting way to sweet for my taste. Was walking around Koreatown and picked Five Senses because it was affordable compared to the other restaurants around and restaurant menu had more variety. Even thought there was a small line, the wait was very short and service is quick. Service was also good when it came to refilling waters and asking if we needed anything. I ordered the corn cheese rice and chicken hot plate, and both were very good. The corn cheese was something I never tried, but I do warn that it is spicy but if you like spicy you'll love the sauce. Five stars for Five Senses! The better half and I bookmarked this place for the next time we came back to The Big Apple. Ktown was walking distance from our hotel which the better half booked as she wanted to explore this part of NYC. So what are the five human senses??? Touch, sight, hearing, smell and taste. The place and the food looked aesthetically pleasing to the eyes for sure. When we sat down, we noticed how many Koreans there were (it's always a good sign) around us and most were speaking Korean so we were happy. All the food around us looked and smelled really good and our stomachs were starting to growl. The waitress was top notch. Asked if this was our first time eating there, in which we said yes. We asked her a couple of questions which she was able to answer (always nice to have a knowledgeable person waiting on you). We ordered the Seafood Pizza aka Seafood Pancake, Galbi-tang, Bulgogi, and of course some soju. The better half totally enjoyed her Galbi-tang. She said the meat was so tender and the broth was light and flavorful. She gave it two thumbs up. The bulgogi came out sizzling which peaked my hearing and the smell made my mouth water. It was a lot of food and you could easily share as I did with the better half. The seafood pizza was just so-so. It might have been a little overcooked. All in all, we had a terrific dinning experience and it will be a good too for sure the next time we go back and visit NYC. read more

It is to note that there is a 20% AUTOMATIC gratuity added for parties of 5 and more with no changes allowed to be made. This would have been fine if the service justified it, but long story short, we were serving ourselves or there was only one server who worked in the back kitchen who was genuinely taking care of us. When we asked if our really young child who was not eating counted toward the headcount, the server shrugged and said sarcastically, "She's a human isn't she?' Meaning if an infant was brought in to the restaurant, they'd be charged as well. The server continued to respond with a scoff when it was commented that the child did not eat (could not eat) and was not served.The attitude took us by surprised and was unnecessary. We were seated and our food was out so quickly! The interior is cute with long rows for the traditional Korean style community seating. We ordered the cheese corn (soooo good), the kimchi fried rice seafood and side of silken tofu stew and lastly the stone bibimbop. Wasn't a fan of the bibimbop as it lacked flavor in my opinion but I enjoyed everything else and the serving sizes were large. GREAT Korean place located in NY K-town. We came on a Thursday around 7:30pm and it was honestly very crowded, both in this restaurant and at all the others we looked at nearby. Our party of 5 got seated at the last open table, which was very lucky else we would have had to wait maybe 30 minutes. They have a nice dinner combo which everyone in my party ended up ordering where you can get either the cold noodle or soondabo and then basically any type of meat dish. You can also just order a larger meat dish, which did come with soup as well. The banchan here also is very fresh, so it was a nice side addition. This is one of my go-to restaurants for authentic Korean cuisine in Manhattan. It's never super busy and the food is always decent. My parents (born and raised in Korea) come here when they want Korean food in Manhattan. A major plus is that for some reason it is usually less crowded than the other places in k-town (good luck trying to go to BCD or k-bbq restaurants without waiting). I have been here multiple times but most recently I came here with a friend from out-of-state. We ordered the kimchi pajeon and the galbi jjim to share. The pancake was super fresh and, most importantly, crispy. It was a great way to start the meal. The galbi jjim was generously portioned with plenty of braised short rib (definitely enough to share). It was extremely flavorful and the meat just fell off the bone. It is not as good as in certain restaurants in LA but for Manhattan I was pretty impressed. In fact, I think I might prefer it to the one my mom makes for me at home! Service is always quick and attentive. I've been going to 5 senses for literally years and as such, this review is devastating to write. It would have been a 5 star but they made a recent change to a dish that I have loved for so long and I can no longer order it. Before I get into my main complaint, I will address what is good about this restaurant. It is well-lit and has a decent amount of seating. The atmosphere is lively and open. I've enjoyed many of their dishes including their kimchi pancake, kimchi fried rice, BBQ, etc. It was all delicious for the most part. My friends who tried other dishes weren't disappointed either. I go here so often the staff recognize me, and they also know my favorite dish, which is the army stew (budaejigae). For the longest time, it was my comfort food. I would go have it when I was tired, sad, or just in the mood for a good meal. Even if I didn't eat in, I would get one or two to go so I could heat it up at home and had been doing so for years. I have taken so many friends, partners, and colleagues here and always ordered this dish. I even recommended Five Senses as a first date to my current boyfriend. However, recently they have started changing the dish. Instead of the pork belly they used to put in, it's a different meat now, thinner and less fatty. The broth has becomes sweeter and tastes more of tomato than it used to as well, whereas it used to be perfectly savory and delicious. Despite this, I'm excited because they recently changed their menu as well and I'll be able to give their new dishes a chance. I'm sure nobody will see this review and they won't care to change the recipe back but I have to express how sad and disappointing it is that the dish I have ordered throughout college and for years after is no longer to my taste. Came here for one dish: marinated crabs!!! It's hard to find a Korean spot with marinated raw crabs, but once I found out that they had it, I had to go and try for myself. It's only here for a limited time, but not sure when it ends. Walked in on a Tuesday night and it was crowded. They were able to seat us right away though. We ordered the marinated raw crab dinner combo with spicy tofu stew and an Abonim Galbi Tang. Ban chan came out first which consisted of kimchi, broccoli, fish cakes, macaroni, potatoes and spicy radish. Service was speedy and waiters were attentive even though all tables were full. This was my first time trying marinated raw crab, but I enjoyed it. I just wish the crabs were bigger and had more meat. It was marinated in a soy sauce concoction.
