Sweet And Sour pork
Hailey L.

First time trying sweet and sour pork from this place. I would not recommend ordering sweet and sour pork from this place. It is literally a scam. Pork is cut too thin and tiny that you barely taste pork in some of the fries and It's mostly fried batter. I really hope people who are trying sweet and sour pork for the first don't believe that this is how it supposed to taste because no! It supposed to be crunchy and pork supposed to be a lot fatter. As usual, portions are too small for spicy noodle as well considering its price and ingredients.

Service was quick and the food was fine. I would have preferred more sauce on the lemon cream shrimp. The Kkanpoonggi was a bit soggy and the pieces seemed smaller than what I'm normally used to. The restaurant is decorated very rustically which gives it a nice mom and pop style atmosphere. I recommend if trying to satiate a black bean noodle (jjajangmyeon) craving in Manhattan.

Stopped by for a quick jjm dinner. The service was fast and the jjm was better compared to Shanghai Mong. The portion was a bit small/average so it's recommended to order an appetizer if you're super hungry. No frills ambiance. In and out in under an hour.

Perfectly bouncy, chewy, and long noodles. The brown sauce noodles were a wonderful price and great portion. I would certainly come again for a satisfying, savory meal. Korean style jajangmyeon is sweet, which is still delicious. I had a great time eating from here, and left with the rare happiness of someone who got a great meal for cheap. The kimchi was bland, though I don't think that detracted from the meal.

I think today the jjamppong was lacking flavor but its still good and spicy. The yellow radish and kimchi was not tasty tho. Wasnt super comforting but the spicy seafood soup was pretty satisfying. The tangsuyuk was good, hot and ready. crispy.

Great Korean-Chinese restaurant in ktown! We ordered 3 dishes to share. - Gochu jambong: 9/10 (great but super super spicy!!! Not for the faint hearted) - Jajangmyeon: 9/10 (actually pretty authentic jajangmyeon! Almost as good as the ones I had in Korea) - Tangsooyook: 9/10 (good Tangsooyook) Service was fast and good and ambiance was very casual!

This was our first stop once we arrived to the city. It's a simple diner vibe. The food was really good. Service was good and we enjoyed the items we ordered. See photo for details.

TLDR: If you are craving for Korean-Chinese in the city, it'll get the job done. Go for lunch time and take advantage of the combo that gives a small sweet and sour beef with the spicy seafood or jajangmyun noodles. I had walked by this place so many times so I figured let's give it a try. Price was decent, the interior is a bit dated but let's focus on the food. Fried dumplings. Standard, crispy (almost too crispy maybe) lots of filling but what you'd expect. Crunchy, greasy, fatty meat, lots of garlic chives. I opted for the jjampong and small sweet and sour beef combo. The beef is already dressed which I don't love the sweet sauce in general but it was still decently crispy. Spicy seafood noodles were decent, good wok flavor. For $21.95, this kind of combo in this area; it's not bad.

This place wasn't as busy as the other spots on the block, so that's why my friend and I chose it. I think I've been here before but wasn't quite sure. It's a little bit outdated inside and very simplistic, but as long as it's clean and the food is good, that's what matters. I was craving noodles, so I ended up getting half and half with both noodles with brown sauce and spicy seafood soup. My friend got the combination but didn't get to try those as I am avoiding fried food. My noodles were good, but the portion size seemed small. The price point was good for the location in midtown.

for the price, food wasn't that good. the ban chan was ok. my friend said the kimchi was their style but it was too salty and sour for me. gyoza was mostly dough. tangsuyuk would not recommend

Spicy Seafood Soup + chicken in Garlic & Pepper Sauce
Joanna P.

While Hyo Dong Gak has pretty good jjambong (seafood spicy noodle soup) and jjajangmyun (black bean sauce noodles), I would avoid any of their meats if possible. I got the combo of the seafood spicy noodle soup + chicken and garlic pepper sauce ($22.95) and was very excited to see how large the portion ended up being. It looked very promising and I was excited to eat. Starting off with the good: the noodles were actually very tasty. It's spicier than i'm used to, but I love spice so I enjoyed it. It felt like the bowl was never ending with all the noodles and seafood. However, the soup is definitely on the salty end though so be warned. Now, here's where it gets bad. The chicken was absolutely inedible. I'm not sure if I got a bad batch or not but the chicken piece was so small and all you could taste was the batter. It was not cooked thoroughly and every single piece I tried was gummy and didn't taste like meat at all. I hate wasting food, but I genuinely had to spit it out and I stopped eating it after that. I really wish I would've just gotten the noodles on it's own. My stomach also hurt all day afterwards and I couldn't move out of my bed. It honestly seemed so promising and I wanted to like it so bad but I will not be back and do not recommend.

If y'all haven't had Korean Chinese food, what are you waiting for?! I went to Hyo Dong Gak, which is right outside of ktown NYC and ordered their $19 split bowl, which came with a big portion of jjangmyeon and a big portion of seafood jampong. The noodles were perfectly chewy without being too soft. The jjangmyeon had the right amount of sauce and came with tiny pieces of pork. The jampong had a TON of seafood including big shrimp with the head on, baby shrimp, mussels and octopus. For $19 you really can't go wrong, that's almost unheard of in NYC! The restaurant was crowded on a random Tuesday evening, but I didn't have to wait long to get seated and I never felt rushed. The staff was extremely friendly and even gave us small packaged candies to take home with us! I will definitely be back! Follow me on instagram for more! @angies_foodie_adventures

Pretty solid place with a few things that I had issue with. But above all else it should be noted that we came in when they were 20mins from closing, and they still allowed us to sit, order before the kitchen closed, and then they rapid-fire served this food to us. Not more than 5mins after we ordered did the first dish come out, and then the food KEPT coming out like it was dimsum. It was exactly what we needed since my cousin had to eat and leave quickly before the parking garage closed. Food wise, nothing really stood out, but nothing was awful either. The seafood pancake was a standout-- super crispy and gave a look as if it were scallion pancake, but it was packed with seafood. It definitely lacked flavor on its own, though, and it was much better when we dipped it in the dumpling sauce. I also felt somewhat bamboozled because we got two orders of jjajangmyun to share between all of us, and the waiter recommended getting another order and to add extra noodles to each of them. We did that and ended up with way too much jjajangmyun. I also found it to be sweeter than I wanted it to be. Great place for a quick meal, but not sure if I'd be actively craving to come back.

The waiter did say to just check mark the paper instead of quantities, but they end up bringing you 2 of everything you order. The sweet & spicy fish is also very solid, garlic noodles were buttery, and even their iced tea was super refreshing. Could not recommend this place more!! Bonus: they play a great 2000s throwback playlist that got us singing along and dancing while we were peeling all our seafood to pass the time. Shoutout to whichever employee put that playlist together!

This is exactly the kind of place that works well when you need something fast but still high quality. Service stood out. Jeanine was excellent; she quickly understood our time constraint, guided us to the right dishes, and kept everything moving without making it feel rushed. At one point we accidentally put a plastic menu over a lit candle, and she handled it immediately and made the moment feel light rather than awkward. The atmosphere was lively and full; the place was packed, but it still felt organized rather than chaotic. The bar looked well stocked, and the overall ambience worked well for a pre-train, Times Square-adjacent stop. Food was solid, with a few standouts. The salmon tartare with sesame crackers was excellent; clean, fresh, and well balanced. Jeanine recommended the shrimp avocado sliders, and that was the right call; they were outstanding. Happy hour oysters were fresh and well balanced. Littleneck clams were good, though slightly less compelling than the oysters. The fish tacos were good but not particularly memorable. Fried calamari was well executed, though the accompanying sauce could have used a little more flavor. The hot sauce, assuming it is made in house, was excellent and added a much better punch to the seafood. Drinks from the happy hour menu, including the Pink Flamingo and margarita, were good and consistent. I would come back to try more from the main menu. If you like seafood, this is a strong option for the price point and location, especially during happy hour.

The crab curry was so nice and clean and fresh. The crab was so tender, and the curry strong, and went beautifully with the rice. It's actually such a sleeper hit, and we added it onto our order last minute. The steamed branzino was delicious, too - tender, limey, sour, sweet, a little heat - it's got everything!! And it tasted so so clean. Beware! There are tiny fish bones, so be careful as you're eating it. The dessert was good too, and very authentic.

From the moment I entered the restaurant, I knew the experience was going to be next level. Thank you Jay for seating me and my friend at the best table in the house. Thank you to our phenomenal server Shamim. Your service was really over the top stellar. Soon as you sit at the table, menus are placed. Complimentary delicious bread, water, and warm hand towels are provided to clean your hands. The seafood buffet is $168 and you can order everything, as many times as you like. The buffet is contactless. The food is served to you at your table. Because the food is served in a manner that is based on a shared dining experience. All guests at the table have to order either buffet or Prix Fix menu. My order of Rockefeller oysters, and clams were simply the best I ever tasted. The way they were prepared is the only way I want to taste them. The next dishes they brought out were fried shrimp, sizzling shrimp scampi. Soft shell crab was cooked to perfection. My garlic butter Nova Scotia Lobster was divine. Cooked, and served to perfection! Next the sizzling sea bass was brought to the table! O-M-G! Within a second after arriving to our table still sizzling. Jose came to personally debone the fish (never had that done before) and he added the Thai chili sauce. At this point, my body was in a foodie coma! After a brief clean up of our table. I left our dining room, and went to the ladies room. When you walk in the ladies room, between the floral scent, and decor you are in awe of the details, the bathroom was dreamy. Back at the table our two servers set up a Picasso style dessert with hand drawn chocolate with the ice cream and a delicious cheesecake. Special thanks to the Manager Sam for stopping by every table to see if everything was to our satisfaction. It was beyond our satisfaction. Tip: Make reservations even if your a party of two. Be sure all guests arrive at the same time. Tip#2: The upstairs level is perfect for large gatherings, corporate events, holiday events, bridal, baby showers, bar/bat mitvah's, and industry events.
