It got a bit rainy and our rooftop plans were canceled. Walking back to our hotel and stumbled upon Apandi BBQ. I was flabbergasted to see these Spicy Cumin meat skewers were only $2 a pop. The only thing that could compare to those humble prices were the street tacos that I love out in LA. I know what you're thinking, this must be some novice, cheap offerings, but my dude was handling the grill like an iron chef. Turning each skewer with precision and showering them with spices. I could tell the vendor had a rhythm that he's picked up through years of experience. I tried the lamb, beef, and chicken. The chicken was my favorite of the three!

It kind of reminded me of Beecher's mac and cheese as it was incredibly creamy. - Brussel Sprouts - I was a big fan of this brussel sprouts as it was baked to perfection. It was very crispy on the outside and had a good vinegar flavor to balance out the heartiness of the vegetable. - Brisket Sandwich - This turned out more to be of a slider than a full on sandwich which was a bit disappointing, but it still made me very full. The brisket itself had a good smokey flavor and adding the pickled vegetables and the BBQ sauces definitely elevated the taste. The star, however, was the bread as it kind of reminded me that of In-n-Out where it is buttery and soft in the inside with nice char and bite on the outside. Overall good and fast eat!

Used to order the brisket, but this time had chicken and a side of smashed sweet potatoes. Chicken was tasty, however I had a hard time eating it with the skin on since the skin wasn't crispy, which is my preference (I peeled off all of the skin). Not sure if the quality has changed over the years, but I would like to try the brisket and pulled pork again.

It's a reason this place has been around for 48 years! You'll have some who say its not as good as…read morewhen they first opened but honey let me tell you they are GOODT! Some will also say it's a tourist trap but I honestly believe it depends on what your looking for in your dining experience. I also don't think it's fair to compare it to any BBQ you'd find in the State of Texas. There are key differences between Dallas BBQ v Real Authentic Texas BBQ. There's a difference in meat selection, cooking methods and sauce. It's more about the experience than "pure" BBQ. The most Texas thing about this spot is the size of their portions with food and drinks being huge. Also, if your looking for complex culinary, sophisticated, and upscale, this ain't it. If your looking for quiet, nope not here. Yet it surpasses today's run of the mill standards of good quality comfort food affordably priced. I purposely did not eat anything all day just so I could enjoy all my faves such as the sticky wings, cornbread and the turkey chilli. First off you cannot come here and not order the wings! It was my friends first time dining here and when she read the menu she thought the wings were going to be those tiny rinky dink flats and drums, but no ma'am! These are nice size WHOLE WINGS. Attempting to eat all 5 of them will have your belly popping out of your shirt and have you snoring at the table! I can eat 4 on an empty stomach but 5 is a lot especially if your eating anything else or drinking. So if you want to try other menu items get them to share or just be prepared to take some home. The Hennessey wings are good but after eating two of them the flavor is a bit overwhelming to me. You will not find a better chilli than theirs!! Their chilli is so flavorful without being spicy hot. I love that I can enjoy their chilli, it's the right texture, consistency, well seasoned and you can tell its good quality ground turkey. The drinks are lit! Generous amount of alcohol. Everything is TEXAS size even if your ordering something as basic as an apple juice! lol I guarantee you will not need to ask your waiter for a refill. Trust me! One major upgrade they need to do here is to the women's bathroom. I can't speak for the men's room except that there's never a line for it. Meanwhile the line hangs outside the women's bathroom and into the walkway of the restaurant. Its just not enough stalls to accommodate guests for a restaurant this size. The midtown location is MASSIVE seating between 500-800 people across three levels. However, there's literally only about 5 or 6 stalls in the women's bathroom. That ratio is way off. Anyhoo besides that this place rocks. Solid service and good food.

It was moist with the right amount of fat. It was covered in a very nice BBQ sauce. The baked potato was a different story. It came wrapped in aluminum foil. The only condiment provided was a very small container of sour cream. Butter was provided upon request. It was quite clear that the potato had been overheld for some time. I only finished half. The cold slaw was quite large and had just the right amount of dressing. Dallas BBQ is well known with several locations. I would think they would know how to make a better presentation.

When we pulled up to the restaurant, we were informed there were a few levels. We went to the second floor and they were happy to accommodate us. We were rolling 6 deep and the booth was enough for us, but barely. In our party, majority of us wanted meat with the exception of 2 people only wanting shrimp and something else. We got the large beef combination platter which comes with ribeye, thin skirt, brisket, marinated kalbi, and marinated chuck flap. Most people stuck with water, while a couple got ginger ale. I ordered the soju flight but I ended up not liking it so my cousins shared it. The meal comes with different veggies as well as your choice of soup. We got the spicy tofu and split it 6 ways. The spice lived up to its name, so I didn't eat very much. The best part was meat. Despite there being 6 of us, there was plenty to go around. I think you have the option to cook it yourself or have them cook it for you and we chose the latter. While I enjoyed it, I wish there was more space. Most of the space was taken up by the accompaniments that come with it (veggies, etc), so there was hardly any room to put anything else. It didn't help that none of our dishes were cleared once we finished them and that no rice is included. Aside from that, both the food and service were great.

The brisket was cooked perfect and nice fatty parts to it if you like that. There was some good smoke to it and nice seasoning to it. The ribs were a little overcooked and not much meat on them. The mac n cheese was really good, nice amount of cheese, noodles cooked perfect, and nice seasoning in it. The greens were also cooked perfect, not mushy, great flavor, and also seasoned right. The cornbread was off the hook, very tasty with great flavor. I like that they mixed corn in the cornbread. We also ordered the Banana Wafer Pudding which was delicious. When I arrived, there were only a few other customers seated in the dining room. That should have been a RED flag, but I wanted to try the burgers while visiting New York. My wife had the Classic Burger topped with American cheese, lettuce, tomato, pickles, house sauce served with fries for $19.95 and I had the Smash-ology Burger with double smash burger patties topped with American cheese, red onion, lettuce tomato, smash-ology sauce on a potato bun served with fries for $19.95. First, the burgers are very small, lack flavor and there is nothing special about them. I've had a better tasting burger from Steak & Shack for a fraction of the cost. The fries were very cold and looked like they were sitting on a holding table for an extended period. I sent the fries back only to be served with more cold fries. Service was also lacking. When I complained about the cold fries, the server didn't seem to be pleased and was very hesitant to take them back. At a cost of more than $45 for two burgers and fries, I expected more. There was a time when Dallas offered a great experience that could not really be topped in the City. My recent experience tells me it has been left in the past. When you come here, manage your expectations. Nothing here seems overpriced, in fact it's all quite reasonable. However, Dallas is a place that makes their money on volume and the house was packed on this recent Saturday night. Everybody was in there. Service suffered, but not leading with glasses of water was a clear omission. Not returning often enough to check on our table of three was not excusable. I ordered the steak and ribs combo at a reasonable twenty three or twenty four bucks. The fries and ribs were better than the steak. The steak, served over pita bread, was very thin and was more tough than it needed to be. The ribs and fries were both good, but not excellent. It was three or four bones nowhere near a half rack. Do they take the rack and cut it length wise in half to say they met the minimum number of bones? For twenty four bucks, manage your expectations. I had a beer in a goblet. I don't remember the lager, but it was good as an accompaniment to the meal. Thanks for all the years of Dallas keeping NYC in barbecue, but the City has great barbecue spots in all the boroughs now where you'll pay for the quality, flavor and experience. Johnson's BBQ in the Bronx offers takeout rib platters for the same money that'll have you eating superb takeout for two days at home. The bathrooms downstairs were clean enough, but no soap in the dispensers. They have plenty of hand wipes available, the type they give to all the tables when you are finished.
