Even found a way to get the job done more efficiently than anticipated so I ended up saving a couple hundred dollars! Jon was the representative that called me back quickly after I requested a quote. VERY professional and thorough. Days later I had an electrician scheduled to come out to price the task. Josh was on time! Actually early this is a huge factor for me. He was professional, covering his shoes and asking what was needed and listened! He gave me a quote, I though was a little pricey. Then he began to look for discounts and he gave us one for military. He also wrote up a sensor light to be installed in my hallway! Days later Tim and Gerry came to do the work. They also were on time and prepared to work. They worked hard and did an outstanding job installing a new ceiling fan in our bedroom. My experience with these guys to this point has been below sub-par. They were very late to their initial walk-through, and a week later I received my first email from them, to one of two emails I supplied, saying that BOTH email addresses I gave them bounced back their quote... yet I received this notification on one of the email addresses I gave them...................... strange.... so now I wait to hear back after I had to request the quote AGAIN. UPDATE: After several back and forths, and them coming out numerous times, the job did eventually get done. They did disconnect something I wanted to stay powered. And wanted to charge extra to reconnect, so I passed on that, but ultimately, there are toooooo many people the info went between from initial walkthrough to the job actually getting done, and that I believe is the main problem. If you're gonna walk out a job, at least be there when it's done, or show how it's supposed to be done. read more

Used in the past and they were great. Latest experience was sub-par. Made an appointment for a quote from 11-1. Took off work to wait at home during that window, and then headed back to work. Guy showed up at 1.15, but I was already gone. They apologized and we rescheduled for a Thursday, 9-11. They called the day before and asked to change the time, which was fine. They actually showed up, and the technician was good, very courteous and knowledgeable. However, he said he would send us a quote by the next day. It is now a week later and we never got a quote, even after emailing customer service. It's a shame, beacuse in the past they have been very reliable. read more

I hired an electrician to come check out some outlets that stopped working after a storm. I know nothing about this sort of thing, but I knew well enough to check the basics (breakers, fuses, etc). Well, apparently I didn't know enough! I was easily able to schedule an appointment and the technician was here on time. We had four electrical outlets in our kitchen stop functioning and weren't sure if it was the GFI (and the three outlets downstream of the GFI) or a breaker that was wiggly. When we started calling to get an electrician around 4:30 PM and the first few electrian services we called were already closed. When my husband got through they offered us a specific time a week later. He initially declined, but I told him to call back and take it. The next day he called more electricians, but the best he could get a guy who would say maybe Tuesday or Wednesday. I figured a specific appointment was better, we moved things around to wait a week. The guy showed up partway through the time window, and quickly determined that the problem was the GFI not the breaker and had the right type of GFI outlet on his truck. He was very careful installing it, because the replacement GFI was somewhat different than the 21 year old one. He explained the difference and the accommodations he had to make to get it in place and carefully tested to make sure that it worked properly. He was done before the end of the time window. read more

Rarely to write a review on Yelp, but these guys are great! I called them for the estimation. My job is very small. Take out ceiling fans and replace the new lights. A lot of company does not even give me a quote because they think this is a small job. But, Five or Free they call me right away to schedule an estimation. On the day of the estimation, Sal, a technician will give me a quote. He got a flat tire and he calls me right away said he will come late. I am okay with that. But they should charge me for the estimation service fee. He waived for me because he shows late. Today is the project day. Chris is my technician today. He shows up on time and does the thing perfect and fast! Both of guys even give me a free check out for other electricity in my house. Let me start off by saying that it didn't exactly start off on a positive note, as they were over an hour late showing up for the initial issue for which I called them. All the lights and plugs in one room suddenly stopped working. This was the 2nd time this happened in a couple months. The first time, we had a different electrician come out and he never found the issue but the lights suddenly began to work again while he was fiddling around in the subpanel, so he scratched his head, said he wasn't sure what it was, collected his $165 for a 20min service call, then left. Then when it happened again, we called Five or Free and were told that they would be here between such and such time the next day. Long story short, they were over an hour late and I was quite frustrated, but they apologized sincerely and profusely and wanted to have a chance at fixing the problem, w/ no charge due to their tardiness. They figured out the issue within less than an hour (it was a loose connection in the "home run" outlet that was affecting the rest of the circuit). The first guy that came out a couple months prior didn't even check for this issue, though it's apparently a common reason for the problem we were having. During the entire troubleshooting process, Gilbert and Alexis, the owners of the company, explained everything they were doing and why they were doing it. I was impressed at their enthusiasm for their work and their willingness to educate the homeowner. True to their promise, they didn't charge for fixing the problem. This brings me to the second part of my electrical saga. I had been planning on replacing the electrical subpanel with a modern subpanel with AFCI breakers to decrease the risk of fire. It's an old house built in 1969 and had the old style breakers which don't protect against arcing due to faulty or loose connections, a common reason for house fires, apparently. I decided to have Five or Free do the job since they seemed really honest, trustworthy and knowledgeable. I was a bit surprised at how much they quoted me since it was quite a bit more than another quote I had gotten. But Gilbert explained that they guarantee service on their work for 17yrs & materials for 7yrs, that they would eat the cost if we are not completely satisfied, they guarantee there would be no additional costs for unanticipated issues, their overhead is more than a solo operation due to their fair pay and benefits to their employees, etc. I was satisfied with their explanation for the higher cost and given their promise to do the job to my satisfaction, I decided to go with them. We scheduled them to come out the next week. They showed up on time and even called ahead to let me know when they'd arrive. They started on the project at 9am. They thought it would take till around 5-6pm, but being an old house with some funky wiring, it took a lot longer than anticipated. They were there till ~10pm and at one point there were 4 guys working on it, including the 2 owners. They supplied power to our fridge by running a wire from the main. After they finished installing the new subpanel with new AFCI breakers, we seemed to be back in business with power to the house again, but one of the new breakers kept tripping every time we turned it on, so it was apparent the new breakers were doing their job and detecting something weird in the wiring somewhere. It was very late by this point, so they decided to come back the next day to troubleshoot the issue with that circuit and placed a temporary non-AFCI breaker there so we'd have power. Well, the problem wasn't so simple because the wiring in the house was not straightforward. They ended up coming out 4 or 5 more times and spending several hours each time to finally figure out the source of the problem, which was found to be coming from 1 outlet in which there were shared neutral wires from 2 circuits. Apparently, the new AFCI breakers are so sensitive, they will detect & be tripped by any number of different wiring issues in the house, hence the reduced risk of electrical fires. I'm still not sure whether the shared neutrals was even a fire danger, but I was happy that the guys were very persistent and determined, and finally solved the mystery of the tripping AFCI. I doubt that too many other electricians would have spent so much extra time and effort to solve the issue without charging extra. Gilbert and Alexis lived up to their promise to complete the work to my satisfaction. During the entire process, they were patient, pleasant & courteous, explained clearly what the potential issues were and how they were going about trying to find the problem. In the end, I felt like I got a crash course on residential electrical systems and now I feel much more confident doing some simple electrical work myself, such as changing out outlets and switches. I wouldn't hesitate to call these guys again in the future for other electrical work. Highly recommended! And nice guys, too. read more

We hired Five or Free Electrical to do a full rewiring of our house. We wanted to replace our knob and tube and bring our electric system to code and after doing our homework and looking at so many estimates we're glad we went with this company. They were very clear since the first time Sal came to scope the work. We had power go out to half of our home. I am somewhat handy and tried to figure it out myself to no avail, to the extent that I had to look for an electrician and I found Five or Free Electrical. They were easy to schedule with and able to get out rather quickly. I had Gilbert and Gerry come out on time within the scheduled appointment, and they were able to find the loose connection I had within 30 minutes. Very fast work, and you can tell they know what they are doing. I do have an old home and with that the outlets are old which is where they found out the loose connection was. They told me loose connections are the number 1 reason why electrical fires happen, so I am so happy that they were able to come and make it safe.
