I got these guys to install recess lights in my living rooms in 2023 January. They took at least 3 rounds of trips to get it really done, every day they will make a mess and promise to come back late and fix. This does not include the times they come for measurement etc. First day they spent a minimum of half a day to wire up a fan, not a fancy fan, simple straightforward fan. In between adding recess lights they changed a switch which had no issues and it stopped turning off - the light will stay on 24 hours a day. One dimmer switch they installed will not dim the light. After working on new switches for dimmer, they left lot of patches I had to call a painter to patch things. I am not talking about small around the areas of switchboard. Even before fixing all these issues, they will demand to get paid without doing all the work. Today I am writing this review in 2024 Jan since they sent an email saying I need to pay around 121$, I had paid whole amount last year. Most annoying of all, adding 5 stars in the beginning of all their emails. read more

I appreciate the electrician on site. He is the most knowledgeable and professional electrician I have ever seen. 1. The electrician waited for me for 30 minutes. He kept his patience. During this period, he figured out the underground location of PG&E equipment. He is the only one who achieved it. 2. The electrician always wore the uniform. 3. The electrician answered my questions professionally. He showed his knowledge and experience. read more

Was very happy with the level 2 charger electrical work done at my house today. Tim showed up on time and was very friendly and professional. He got to work right away and was neat and extremely helpful with questions I had and installed my charger on the garage wall . Would highly recommend Tim and the team. read more

My entire experience with Five or Free was incredibly positive, starting with the estimate by Alex, through the email communication to finalize the job, and finally through the incredible installation work by Tim. This company just hires really well and sets very high standards for themselves. They are also outstanding communicators and very respectful and helpful, checking in throughout the process the perfect amount. And Alex and Tim were just so nice. I appreciate people that are experts at what they do and I will gladly go back and use Five or Free again. read more

Very happy with Five or Free Electrical Solutions. They were communicative, prompt, efficient. This is the way to run a business. Communicative: I got a quick response to my service inquiry through Yelp. At every step from initial contact to all my emails, to booking, etc. replies were immediate. I was kept informed if a new issue popped up. Multiple confirmations, both written and voice were sent. While I liked talking to a real person, I also appreciated the written confirmation detailing the job expectations. Prompt: Tim, the electrician, was great. The main office messaged me before he arrived but Tim also texted and called me with his ETA. My time is just as valuable as my wallet. I appreciated that he showed up when he said he would. Efficient: Tim quickly evaluated the problem and gave me an upfront recommendation. His diagnosis was pretty accurate but he was honest when other problems emerged. He patiently explained the issues and I didn't feel ripped off. Price seemed comparable to others. Not cheap but I don't begrudge them making a living. Above and beyond: Tim didn't have a part and promised to return first thing in the morning to complete repairs and he did. I've worked with tradesmen in the past with no sense of urgency or respect for the customer. Working with Tim is great and Five or Free Electrical Solutions will stay on my reliable contact list for future electrical needs. 5+ stars read more

Out of all the diff electricians I talked to, they were the only ones that followed through AND were able to do a free consultation. Everyone else I talked to wanted either a fee for the consultation or a deposit. They came by to assess my place's ability to have another coax Jack installed. It did take awhile for them to show up for the consultation. 1 appt was canceled about 2 days. They were surprisingly on time to the next appt, and on the earlier part of the timeframe which was nice. They presented me with 2 options with diff costs. The price was pretty decent compared to the other electricians I talked to. On the day they were supposed to install it, then ran like 2-3hrs behind from the project before me and canceled the day off during the timeframe although they were trying to give me status updates. Huge inconvenience as I had the day off. When they were able to reschedule, I was the first appt and overall, I was pleased. My electrician was friendly and explained which option he thought would be best, did the work, and even got me paint that matched my walls from Home Depot to cover up the holes they had to make for my project. The coax Jack works great! read more

The experience with Five or Free Electrical was great from start to finish. Eric was our electrician estimator, he was thorough and walked us through the fix needed. We had critters chew through our AC major wiring but he also gave us a few suggestions for upgrades. No heavy sale, more data driven which was appreciated. Issac & Oscar came out two days later and fixed everything. It has been a while since I used a service where I felt good about it even after writing the check. I'm not certain where they fit as far as price. I received 3 different estimates. One was $5800 running a new wire across the house. The second was roughly $1000 but it left out several items. And then there was Five or Free which was $1435 but included the AC wire being re-routed to a junction box to cut out the bad wires, hardwired a fountain pump and added power to a receptacle. I would totally use this. Many again especially if it is Eric, Issac (big shout out) and Oscar. read more

A super thank you to Alex. Alex came over to give me a quote for a bidet outlet and move a chandelier. An absolute A+ in customer service and professionalism. Later Alex and Cruz returned to do the work. Alex was able to install the outlet without making a single extra hole. no need for patchwork. They got creative and ran the wires like pro's Thank you for amazing work! read more

This is the second time we have hired this business to remove old and install new pendant lights, chandeliers, flush mounts and sconces. Hi Gilbert, Jon, Tim, and others. Want to provide a quick check-in for today's appointment. Thank you Gilbert for coming out today - I value our business relationship over the years and everyone who has supported me in the past, and up through present with my recent project. Today's assessment and recommendations are excellent and feel confidant and in great hands. Thank you for all you do. I highly recommend Five or Free for all electrical needs and services. read more

Very quick and thorough examination and was very nice. Staff gave pros and cons and expectation.

I decided to try Five or Free for some electrical work I needed in my garage and also in our bedrooms. I was adding several light fixtures and also adding an electrical outlet in the garage. For the cost of the work performed, I felt they did an adequate job, but I was not impressed with their organization or follow up. I had to correct an invoice as they did not remove an item that the on-site electrician stated was not needed. If I hadn't caught that, I would have been over charged. I also had to follow up on the permitting process to make sure that this was all done according to code and filed with the city. I feel like they should have been more proactive in making sure that this was communicated and scheduled accordingly. Finally, there was a switch that was not installed correctly and had to be corrected by a follow up visit which took a couple of months after the initial work. I don't mind paying a little more for high quality work and good communication, but I feel they fell a little short in both of these areas. read more

Seems like this company prices by the value of the house instead of the work. Quotes $5,000 for installing a 220V outlet 10 feet from panel inside the garage! Truely means 5 in name means its quotes starting fives? Now have multiple quotes from reputed electricians for close to $1k, which too seems excessive so still seeking bids. But $5k??? The Gilbert guys has to be installing gold plated wires!!! Just get someone else for your electrical work. read more

The fuse controlling our kitchen blew right after the holidays. It appeared that it needed to be replaced. The office was responsive in setting up our appointment and I received text messages throughout the process. Alex came out and was able to reset the fuse without any repair. Even though the service visit was scheduled and Alex had to travel 20 mins out to our place from his previous appointment, we were not charged for the service. Other companies were quoting $100 or more just to show up. Thanks Alex and 5 or Free - you will be our first call if we have any other electrical issues. read more

I had a message out to 5 companies for help with my outlets and they were the only company to respond. They were efficient in getting me scheduled and communicated before, during, and after the appointment. Alex came out and went over a few of the outlets I had concern with. He was knowledgeable and had no problem answering my questions. I was quoted $300 to replace just 4 outlets (which seems pretty high to me considering I can easily go buy them cheaper myself). Having worked with an HVAC company I get the up sell, but it wasn't explained to me why so much and what warranties I would get or anything and I was kind of taken a back by that. All in all a good experience though. read more

Firstly, the representative that came to give me a quote was on time and courteous - he explained everything and applied discounts where he could; I don't think my experience was a problem with my particular representative. I contacted Five or Free Electrical Solutions to remove an existing level 2 Tesla wall charger I already have installed (which cost $700 to be installed in the first place) and replace it around 6 feet away on the same wall with a NEMA 14-50 outlet; essentially replace the hardwired car charger with an equivalent appliance outlet - yes there was some slight rewiring required since a longer wire was needed. The quote I received - with a plentiful 10% discounts applied - was an astounding $2,884.50. Note: I am not an electrician so perhaps some of the work on the quote was required - but I'm doubtful seeing as the circuit I was quoted for is already present, I already have a level 2 charger installed. The permitting fee of $600 is arguably not required also because the outlet would have also been within 6 feet of the junction box, and looking at local permitting fees you are charging more than $500 over the cost of the permit. Thankfully, I did receive much more reasonable quotes from competitors so will not be using Five or Free Electrical Solutions. Please do your due diligence and get competing quotes especially for car charging! Like I said getting my charger installed originally was only $700, being overcharged more than $2000 with seemingly unnecessary line items is somewhat disingenuous. read more

Alex showed up right on time this morning and took a look at the two issues I had... One evidently was a non-issue, but he pointed out to me that maybe it was the rating on the light bulbs I'd been using in a hanging fixture that caused them to go out immediately. Whatever it was... that light is now working perfectly. Then he got to work on installing my new Nest thermostat, something I really didn't want to tackle on my own. It took him no time at all... he got it configured to the point where I had to get in with the app to finish set up, but even at that point, heating and cooling were working from the new device. I've done my part and it's all working perfectly now. GOOD price, too. I'd gotten one "site unseen" estimate that was way too high, so I'm glad I waited! Recommended and I will call Five or Free the next time I have electrical work to be done. read more

I needed help installing a light fixture in my master bedroom. I was able to make an appointment over the phone and the electrician Alex arrived on time within the promised timeframe. He was very clean and efficient and respectful of my home in protecting the furniture. I appreciated how they send multiple emails and texts with reminders and a notification when Alex was on his way including a picture of himself. read more

The estimate process was easy and the job was scheduled to be completed within a few days. The guys came reviewed the work with me, double checked at a couple of stages and explained what they were doing. They completed the project about 1/2 through the day. They cleaned up prior to leaving taking all of the parts I requested. Completion of the project to payment was smooth. 16 recessed lights throughout the house. All that's left to do is painting. read more

Cory and George were our team from Five or Free. They showed up on time. They also had great communication. Not all electricians know how to put in wifi switches but they did and they did it efficiently. Plus they put in 3 ceiling fans and 4 outdoor lights. Everything looks great and works well. They also cleaned up after they were done. I would highly recommend Five or Free and this team. I would definitely use them again. read more

We had an electrical problem so we reached out for service. Alex with Five or Free Electrical came the next morning with an arrival window of 7-9 am. The response time was excellent, he was punctual, communication was excellent, and the service call was impeccable! Alex was polite, professional and very respectful of our property. He wore a mask, booties over his shoes when he came inside, and even wiped down the switch plate and door jambs where he worked. He inspected the main service panel, removed and reinstalled the breaker that was loose that caused arcing and photographed everything to provide his recommendation for repairs. I highly recommend this company. While other local electricians were three weeks out to even come look at our problem Five or Free was amazing! No charge for the service call/ estimate! Thank you! read more

George and Johnny switched out a laundry room light and installed 2 GFCi outlets in our backyard. They were efficient and respectful (wore shoe coverings, cleaned up after they were done). They were detailed in their explanation of the work they completed and took pride in the job! Prior to that, Tim completed a free estimate and was clear about the work involved. The interactions with the front office (Jon) were efficient with scheduling. We will use their services for future electrical work! read more

Another job very well done. I have welcomed in the My Home the service people from Electrical solutions. Here is the latest: We finally were able to pass inspections. On 10/20/2020 (3:15 pm) we received a voicemail from the vendor. They wanted to discuss the issues we had and it seemed like they wanted to make things right. At the end of the voice mail he said if he did not hear back, he would still follow up. I called them back and left a voicemail on 10/21/2020 (9:00am). We have not heard back from them since. Now the two workbench outlets are tripping the breaker, without anything plugged into them. You would have expected better service on a $9k project. Definitely false advertising on their promises. read more

Very fast response in Yelp. Good communication. The technician is very knowledgeable.

Second time I have used them and was very pleased each time. From the text and emails about them being on the way to the real time tracking of the truck as it travels to me, this only matched the experience with the electrician. Tim arrived on time, used Covid precautions and shoe covers. Tim was efficient and informed me of what he was doing as he went. Very professional. Could not be more pleased. read more

I have a few light switch and fixture fixes and called one other company and was told just to get an estimate will need 2+ weeks. All the works are done very clean and neat. We are very satisfied with the works. read more

Very professional and courteous. I hired five or free after getting quotes from several other places. I needed a wall heater replacing. They provided a free quote to start off with which is a big deal. They were very good with the communication. Sending email and text updates of the status of the technician and when the job was about to begin and end. They sent a technician bio with a photo so you know exactly who was going to be turning up on the day. They were timely, arriving when they said they would and got the job done very quickly and cleanly. I would not hesitate for a minute to use their services again. It was very easy to deal with them and they were very accommodating. Thank you! read more

Outstanding service on the phone and very prompt! I like the person on the phone and the technician who showed up was very pleasant and very nice . Yelp previously removed my review because I posted the same on two of their locations so I'll fix that. I'll include my initial review below with this update. In addition to my review below the quote they gave me for my work was $6,500 ~ and I ended up getting work done for $1,730 receiving two other quotes for $2,030 and $3,000. They are more than twice the price for lackluster customer service. And no I didn't change the scope of work to what I was quoted. Original review; I've decided to turn my detached garage into a home gym and needed some help with electrical work so I called Five or Free Electrical to schedule an appointment for them to look at the scope of my work. Scheduling was easy and professional and a few days later they're at my house to look at my job. Gilbert arrived early and I was ready for him to review. We have no insulation or drywall up so everything is open and ready, a seemingly easy job. He verified some power lines running out and took some pictures to create a quote. I paid the $50 deposit which can be applied to the job if done. Gilbert mentioned he'd probably have it to me by next day. I told him I wasn't in a rush and that would be fine. 2 days later I called requesting an update. I received a call the day after my message saying the project would come to my email within the next day. Well Friday came and went, the weekend too. So yet again I call, a full week after having the first visit, and the representative promised that Gilbert would be notified and that I'll have it by end of day. The scope of work may be too easy or small and not worth their time. My emails correct on file - they sent me all the links to review them on all their linked 3rd party reviewers the day after my visit. No quote, no call, no updates. An absolute waste of time to even consider using this company if you value your time. This poor execution on how they treat their customers may reflect in the actual work they perform. Why do I, a customer, have to try and chase YOU down for work? read more

Gilbert and his team did an awesome job at our home. They're efficient, clean, and very professional. They got 2 works done, in just 2hrs. And these jobs were not easy....but the guys made it look like they were. 16ft Foyer was turned down by many, but they took it and did a fantastic job. I don't normally tip for something I'm spending money on already, but the techs deserved it. I will even consider these guys to work on some projects at work. They have earned my trust! read more
