This place is so cute! I came in on a Sunday for brunch with a friend and we were seated right away. It appears to be in an old house that has been renovated. There is a beautiful fireplace when you walk in and smaller rooms with tables, which makes it feel very cozy. I ordered a cold brew coffee, it was okay. I also got a cup of their potato, broccoli & cheddar soup. It was. generous portion for a cup! Absolutely delicious and fresh tasting. For my entree, I ordered the roasted turkey sandwich. Sourdough bread was so soft and airy and turkey was good quality-- not overly processed or salty. It was $15 for just the sandwich (no side included), so on the pricey side. I did notice that they are able to do all their sandwiches gluten free if you need that. Server was nice and attentive, they take Blackbird for payment, which I utilized. Cute inside, good food. Five Loaves is a bewildering restaurant for me, primarily because the quality of food and service is highly unpredictable, sometimes excellent, other times mediocre at best. Example: Occasionally, the 1/2 argula salad with beets and goat cheese and candied walnuts is relatively large with chunks of cheese and plenty of beets and walnuts; other times, it is smaller with few of the aforementioned. Luckily, the service is usually spot on, but the consistency of the food is unreliable. The house is lovely and I like the wheelchair access ramp for those who need it. We were wanting a good brunch and we decided to stop here. The inside of the restaurant is very nice but the food was not that great. We ordered the special which was the biscuits with strawberry hibiscus butter, that's what sold me because in my mind I had a vision of fresh strawberries and hibiscus pieces pressed into butter with warm flaky biscuits. That was far from my reality. We got 2 lukewarm flat biscuits with what tasted like regular butter with pink food coloring in it. 3/10. After the very disappointing special, I tried to play it safe with the Monte Cristo and a side of cheesy grits. My husband got all sides because they don't have a traditional breakfast on their menu, biscuits and sausage gravy, bacon, and a side of cheesy grits. The Monte Cristo was good. As visitors to the area, we loved that we could walk here from our AirBNB. This cute spot is in an old house. You can eat on the front porch, or in one of the rooms on the first floor. We went twice during the 4 days we were in town. The first time we went for drinks for my birthday and sat at the bar. The reason we went was because we saw they had a special drink made with sweet tea, in this town that claims it's the home of sweet tea. The only problem was, the drink I'd read about was for a special town promo that had ended months before I arrived. The sweet bartender said, "No worries! The owner is my best friend," as she called to get the drink recipe. My drink was made with vodka that was infused with sweet tea and was amazing! The second time we went we ate lunch on the porch before we left town to go home. The service this time was a little slower, but still good, given it was the lunch rush. There were plenty of plant-based vegan options for me and my daughter enjoyed her meal too. This is a great little locally-owned spot. Highly recommended! There was about a 30min wait on Sunday afternoon after church...no big deal...but...they really had nowhere to wait. I have 2 young girls and I was constantly shepparding them to not get runover. We sat down. The server was friendly. We ordered the broccoli cheddar potato soup, a cob salad, and the kids tortalini an waffles. The food was a disappointment. The best of the bunch was the salad which was decent. I ordered the honey basil dressing. I wasn't quite what I was expecting and when I ordered a replacement (white balsamic) I was informed there was a 50 cent surcharge. For only 50 cents I just paid rather than arguing. The soup was not that tasty kinda bland and not as creamy as I thought it would be. The tortellini again bland. Lastly we got the kids waffle (which is 1/2 of a Belgian waffle. The batter/waffle was good. We got it topped with blueberries (another 50 cent surcharge) and whipped cream (another 50 cent surcharge) when it came they forgot the whipped cream. We were so excited to try Five Loaves Cafe as we are new to the area and have heard good things. We went about 2:00 on a Saturday and unfortunately they only had a brunch menu, which we did not expect on a Saturday. Since it was later in the day and we had already had breakfast, we did not want that again. There were a couple of sandwich and salad options but not really many choices. My husband got the Ham & Brie sandwich on sourdough and I got the Cobb Salad. The bread on the sandwich was very dry and tasteless. My husband is not a picky eater but did not enjoy the sandwich at all. I ordered the salad due to lack of other options, thinking I could not go wrong with a salad. There was very little chicken on the salad and it was nothing special. Neither of us ate much of our meals and were disappointed. The place was cute, the service was good however the metal chairs were pretty uncomfortable. Kudos for the gluten free options on the menu. We were excited to visit Five Loaves, because we enjoyed all of the other locations and had recently moved to Summerville. The restaurant is so cute, and the vibe of the place was enjoyable....but that's where it ended. The food was mediocre at best. We were seated promptly, and our server (Ashley S.) was very attentive and lovely. There seemed to be some argument, or unrest between the other wait staff about changes in seating sections that we had to hear as we tried to enjoy our meal. One of the waitresses even cussed loudly while walking nearby which didn't offend me personally , but there were families with children in the restaurant (Saturday Noonish). Not professional at all! Finally, our meal. I got the brunch enchilada which was actually three rolled taquitos with what can only be described as a filling of blended mush with maybe 3 black beans in it. Very Bland. My mom ordered the Ham and Brie sandwich on sourdough. The bread was dry and crumbly except for the sections that were wet, soggy and purple from the slaw soaked through it. The ham was rolled up with the Brie inside, and slapped between the bread. I read a negative review about that same sandwich from one year ago before I wrote about my experience, so I guess they aren't intent on changing anything. read more

I didn't like the soup, it was too sweet. My friend had the other tomato soup and it was really good. The chocolate cake was an obvious choice to go with an espresso martini. Both were good! Service was just okay. The bartender is the type that made us feel like we were inconveniencing her, perhaps she was having a tough day.
