For those of you who read my reviews you know I LOVE to support local. And you may or may not know that I also love donuts. Coming from Springfield IL all I knew was delicious donuts from a local shop, Mel-O-Cream. I still get them every time I'm in SPI for a visit!! So in CHS after Glazed permanently closed, I've been in search for a local donut replacement. So I found DonutMakes and stopped to give them a try. The actual yeast donuts were fresh and good. My hiccup was with the icing and the gel filling. As numerous other reviews mentioned, neither the icing or filling was sweet. And nobody wants cloyingly sweet, but I expect a donut to be sweet. Also, the pink icing and jelly filling were both listed as raspberry flavored. I love raspberries and neither gave me a raspberry flavor profile at all. So my hunt for the best local donut will continue. read more

This donut shop is so cute!! It's tucked in a shopping center in the very corner but inside it is so nice! I heard this place is locally owned and I've always wanted to check it out. I wanted to bring in donuts to the office and this place did not disappoint at all. My coworkers were very content! I wasn't able to take a picture of the donuts but they were huge and amazing overall. I ordered a dozen donuts and asked for a random assortment. I also got an iced coffee with hazelnut syrup and a bit of sugar/cream and it was a 10/10. The cashier was so nice and helped me out which I totally appreciate. Donutmakes is hands-down the best spot for donuts! I first tried them when my coworkers brought a box to a potluck, and they were the star of the show. After that, I knew I had to take my husband, who is a self-proclaimed donut connoisseur. He devoured three donuts and six donut holes in one sitting--if that doesn't say it all, I don't know what does! Their donuts are phenomenal--light, airy, and packed with incredible flavor. We tried the original glazed, cinnamon swirl, and chocolate sprinkles, and each one was perfection. The atmosphere is cozy and charming, with a mix of eclectic decor, checkers to play, and plenty of seating where you can relax, enjoy a donut, and maybe read a book with a cup of coffee. I haven't tried the coffee yet, but I'll definitely be back to see if it matches the quality of their donuts. The staff is so friendly and attentive, and I noticed they have regulars whose orders they had ready as soon as they walked in--such a nice personal touch! I can't wait to return! Ok. I know I gave them 3 stars last time. However, we've been going every single Sunday (minus when out of town or one time when I had to get them in GC).....my kids love them. They look forward to them every Sunday morning. I cracked the nut on the long lines, I just order online. Every single time I have shown up they are fresh, in a box with my name on it, and ready to go. In and out in less than 10 seconds. OH, and they are open super early. This was my second visit and I ordered the donut holes with raspberry glaze and sprinkles, they were pretty good. I liked the flavor this time around, instead of just tasting sweet/sugar I did taste a hint of raspberry in the icing. I enjoyed the texture of the donut holes and subtle glaze. Went there this morning for the first time and it has really good ambiance .... until you start talking with the grumpy older person takeing orders. They made wait for my 20 oz coffee with cream and suger( average) until my sausage egg cheese biscuit was done. And my two donuts boston crème and jelly filled. they weee spectacular. This little donut shop is tucked away and could easily be looked over but that would be a shame. The donuts are delicious!!! Very yeasty and soft. They offer several different varieties and each one seemed to be a great size. And their donut holes... I would go back just for truckloads of those, to be honest! I am torn on this one fellow foodies! I found out about DonutMakes when a fellow judge from SBN (Southern BBQ Network) brought them to one of our events. We have tried all the local places and some just to far, you get heavy dough, not made fresh, or just so over the top you can only do them quarterly as to not have a heart attack. These donuts are light, not overly sweet, and just enough frosting, if that's your vise, to make it on every bit. You have got to try them!! Now for the hard part: You may call me a coffee snob but I really enjoy my daily cup of Joe. I like consistency and my flavors. Creamers that have artificial flavors and preservatives make me ill. I say that as I didn't like the coffee when I first tried it and they don't offer a larger size for iced coffee as that too is my go to. Went again and tried the coffee again and was so disappointed to find out that they use coffee-mate creamer, and granulated sugar, and the price point should afford us a quality cup of Joe. Now the food: I had the ultimate croissant and although it was not visually appealing due to the amount of grease saturating the bottom half of the croissant and dripping on the wax paper, the flavors and amount of meats made it good. I will continue to give accolades for DonutMakes donuts as I feel this is the place to go, even if you have to drive a bit longer to get there. read more

Today I went to an antique outdoor market to get a typewriter. I thought, hey...let me bring home donuts for my family as a nice gesture! I went to Dunkin and stood there for 5 minutes and they did not even acknowledge my presence...so I walked out. Plus I haven't been a fan of their food for a while. Their donuts taste so not fresh. I went down the street to Donut Makes and I'm so glad I did! They were so nice in there and their donuts and coffee are excellent! I got a vanilla iced latte. We are so glad we stopped in!! It was our first visit and we were greeted immediately. When they found out we had never been they gave us a free donut to try on the house (and it was delicious). Had an egg and cheese Croissant with a real fried egg, for a donut, lemon is my go to and it did not disappoint, neither did the glaze. The donuts are light, not cake like, but fresh and ginormous. Check them out, on the way to Lowes, Home Depot, Seacoast, New Hope... let's keep this place in business. Not a bad spot for a quick morning breakfast! My wife and I popped in early Saturday morning and it wasn't busy. I was crazy hungry so I ordered the 2 donuts and coffee combo + a bacon, egg and cheese croissant. My wife ordered the egg and cheese croissant with a coffee. The breakfast sandwiches were really good- we recommend that you get a meat on it as the egg and cheese was a little bland. The donuts were good- particularly the two chocolate ones. They have your classic favorites that are pretty huge and delicious! They also sell some coffee drinks as well.

First time there. The doughnuts were very good. I appreciate that they fill and ice them to order. I think it's a great concept and probably more economical to make a bunch of holed, plain doughnuts then fill them and ice them to order. You get a lot of filling this way which I loved. My only complaint is I feel they should have put them in boxes and not bags. I'm guessing they have boxes for larger orders. We only purchased two but the icing got all over the bag and was messy. But again, it was a very good doughnut and the service was great too. I would definitely recommend. read more

Our family absolutely loved this place! The coffee, donuts, and croissant was amazing... it was 6:30am on Monday Morning and everyone was so nice and pleasant. We were even given a few extra donuts for my toddler for free and they had toys and books to entertain the kids (Adult books also). This place as a whole was the best donut/coffee shop I've ever been to. The seating arrangement was cozy and the plants they had were so pretty. Staff is very nice. I did not really care for the donuts. We are from Texas so we were interested in the kolache's. They made some from scratch that were hot out of the oven and delicious and others they reheated in the microwave?! The ones,obviously, that were made fresh and baked in an oven were delicious and I would definitely come back for those. But, because I don't know if I'm going to get fresh ones or reheated ones I do not want to pay the 5 to 6 dollars each and not get what I'm looking for.
