I'm more of an In 'N 'Out guy, but every so often, it's good to try something a bit different. I've been left cold before when it comes to Five Guys, but thankfully yesterday's experience wasn't so bad. The "little" burgers aren't so little, so don't let that title fool you. They are very good sized and are about five bucks. You can include all the toppings you want, including mushrooms, which is a steal. Also, they are very generous with the fries, so if you order the small fries, you will get a lot. No joke. The manager, or at least the guy who I thought was the manager was very positive and welcoming. He was great. The taste still isn't my favorite, but overall, they still make a mighty fine burger. When we brought the order home (we only live 2 miles away) my milkshake was not blended at all... all the 'extra' was at the bottom... MAN. This is one of the best fast foods burger joints ever. I got the bacon cheeseburger all the way and it was SO good. The burger patty was crispy the bun was soft. It had loads of flavor and tasted fresh! The only downside that you usually don't see in a lot of burgers is there was too little salt. I also got their Cajun fries which were Soooo tasty. The fries were super crunchy and the Cajun seasoning was sweet and salty. If you decide to eat inside you can get free peanuts too! The service is really nice as the workers are kind and helpful. The ambience is also amazing as they have many decorations and cool newspapers. Only downside is it is on the more pricey side for fast food. In burger joints, there are three classes. Fast (like BK, McD, Wendy's; Slow (Kirk's, St. John's, various beer bar and sit-down places like Eureka); and then there are a couple of chains that are in between (In 'n Out, Five Guys, Smashburger, for instance). Almost as fast as the fast ones, with close to the quality of the slow burgers. To me, these are the sweet spot of hamburger restaurants and for my money, Five Guys sits atop this very small, elite heap. I love their simple menu. Burgers, regular and "Little" (which means one patty -- the burger is the same size); bacon; cheese. Then a list of add-ons, all free. Make it your own. Mayo, ketchup, onions raw or grilled, grilled mushrooms, produce, jalapeños. Quality is excellent and it's all made fresh to order. Over to the fries. OMG. This is the best thing they make. No frozen potatoes here. The potatoes are in bags out in the dining room and yes, they are real, not a prop. They keep the oil fresh and properly double-cook them to get the perfect mix of chewy and crispy. Not overly salted. The portions are obscene. Large serves four, they say, but it satisfied three of us, twice. (Pro tip: reheat with an air fryer.) They didn't have shakes for a long time but one of the Guys (the "five guys" are founder Jerry Murrell and four sons) talked the family into doing in a very Five Guys way: Only one kind of shake comes out of the machine but a long list of add-ins (free, again) let you build the flavor you want. Including bacon, because, well, bacon. That's fun but I tried a salted caramel and peanut butter and it was amazing. Small menu helps them keep the quality, speed, and value up. But calories? Can you imagine ordering burgers, waiting for them, driving home in a rush to finally eat, and finally opening up the wrapper to find this mess. They messed up our entire order. I'd be a little more understanding if it was busy but there were maybe 10 people sitting and no line behind us. You can see in the pictures that I ordered two burgers with multiple toppings but all we got were our patties and some veggies. How do you even forget to add bacon in a bacon cheeseburger??? In case anyone is mad that I gave Five Guys only two stars, let me put this disclaimer out there first: Five guys did NOT make my burger, okay? Three guys and two girls did. When Five Guys first arrived in the Bay Area, people kept telling me about how they were like In N Out and that their burgers were a little different, but just as good. After trying them though, I'm still curious as to why they're supposed to be just as good. My friend and I dropped in for a late dinner so we could both finally check them out. Heeding the advice of fellow Yelpers, I ordered the "Little" Bacon Cheeseburger (with everything - mayo, lettuce, pickles, tomatoes, grilled onions, grilled mushrooms, ketchup, and mustard) since it's essentially the size of a regular burger at most other places while splitting an order of fries with my friend. When I first tried 5 Guys in SoCal a few years ago, I remember not being impressed. At that time, I didn't know to order the "Little Hamburger" so I felt like it was too heavy. And all the topping choices just felt unnecessary since I was fine with In-N-Out's simple but always-spot-on burgers. I went with some friends recently and I have had a change in heart. I am still loyal to In-N-Out's burgers because of the price and reliability, but I also can see 5 Guys comes in handy when you want a heartier, more varied burger. When I placed my order, the guy taking my order recommended that I try it with grilled jalapenos. I think that that made a huge difference - it made the burger not feel greasy and was that extra something that made it an awesome burger. My friends shared their fries with me and it was the perfect amount for sharing among the 3 of us. What's more meaty than a big Five Guys burger, just about nothing. I decided to score the bacon cheeseburger, all-in, with a side of fries. Hold the soda cause I certainly don't need those empty calories! *snicker* This was a legitimately big burger and was piping hot with freshness. It reminds me of the kind of thing I'd make at a BBQ on a hot summer day and really hits the spot. The fries were piping hot and salty, perhaps a bit too much however. Overall, I left full and happy, and even took some home to prevent food coma throughout the rest of the day. Food coma set it anyway and I found myself nodding off for the rest of the day. At about $11 and 1200+ calories, this is no baby burger and can add up in more ways than one. They've got some great, covered tables outside where people like to eat with their dogs. Reading some of the negative reviews, and I'm like it's 5 Guys not Hells Kitchen. On top of this takeout orders have nearly tripled everywhere so they have a lot on their plates. People either misunderstanding how to order, or using terrible grammar to the point you can't understand what they're saying, or using a sample size of 1 and getting a mistake, to give a 1 star review are baffling and funny to me. I'll try to offset their stupidity with a somewhat intelligent and thought out review that spans multiple visits, rather than one, where the reviewer was sad-face over the fries they "digged in" (*sigh* Public education in this country is an embarrassment.) on and were disappointed and never tried again. The food quality is extraordinary. I have never gotten a burger or fries or shake or even hot dog and been disappointed in the ingredient quality, nor in the standard of execution. I truly don't understand the reviewer who has gotten subpar or low quality food from this location. And if you did, did you go back and explain to whomever the manager on duty was? Did they make it right? If you did not go exercise your rights as a consumer, why not? If you got something of lesser quality than expected and you did nothing to rectify the situation other than come on here and give a one or two sentence review about how cry emoji you are and you're fist-clenched never going back, that's on you. Only you can save you. Love yourself and stand up for yourself, don't blame everyone around you for your lack of conviction and bravery. Don't blame the beautiful burgers and fries at Five Guys. I tend to lock into one order usually at restaurants, which is a failing of mine, but I have explored and ordered the hot dog, which is quite underrated. The fries are always phenomenal, and of course always best eaten as close to the time they came out of the fryer as possible. I will typically order them cooked normally and ask for Cajun spice on the side and season as I see fit, but these are the best among the "slow fast food" fries. So many customization options here it's unreal. This is the backyard summer cookout burger we all dream of making without the logistics of having to buy all the stuff and set the time aside of doing it. It's the delicious milkshake we probably shouldn't be having as often. This is comfort food and it's delicious, always made to order and without the political baggage of certain chicken sandwiches. Okay a semi-regular customer here. Have been ordering online lately due to the pandemic. Today was the worst experience I've ever had at any kind of fast food restaurant or otherwise. I ordered online and showed up about 15 minutes later to pick it up. When I arrived they didn't know where it was or what my order was so she had to look it up I'm the computer. She said they would start making it now. I was slightly disappointed but fine sure I'll wait it's fast. Then the employee called me back over and tell me oh somebody had picked it up already like one of my family members. Wtf?! Is this place trying to accuse me of getting two orders or stealing from them or something? I ordered a bacon burger bowl through DoorDash but when it arrived it looked like leftover dog food. I've ordered the same thing many times from other locations and I've never been as disappointed as I was today. First off, they didn't put any bacon in my bowl. Why would someone order a bacon burger with no bacon? Secondly the meat looked like two shriveled up over cooked patties. And finally there was barely any lettuce or pickles in the bowl. I should've got a protein style burger at In n Out instead at least they're not stingy with the lettuce. Aside from the sad burger bowl. Solid place for a burger. We got a bacon cheeseburger and a small cheeseburger and regular fries for about $20. A regular fries is enough for two people to share. And fries are big and tasty. My small cheeseburger was great and I like it with all the toppings. They also have extra toppings you can get and customize what you want. The cheese could be slightly more melted. They cook it when you order it. So it can take a little bit of time to get your order but you can get a basket of peanuts to whet your palate. Prefacing this by saying this review is solely about how this location handles Google orders specifically. The food, and staff, are excellent and I've eaten here many times before via Google. However, this time I went most recently was extremely disappointing and left me feeling totally ripped off. I placed my order well in advance via my phone, had a confirmation email and everything, but was still told that "the order didn't go through" and to "put it through again", even after showing the staff the email multiple times. I get it was a busy time of day, but the system here needs to be more organized! Why should I have to pay twice at that point? Isn't the confirmation email enough? And why should I trust a company that already took my money in the first place? After waiting nearly 25 minutes for ONE BURGER, I left in frustration as I was told to simply get in line and place my order again with the cashier. I was not offered a refund. Great burgers, and friendly staff, but an extremely frustrating Google order process. Some real work needs to be done here. I stopped coming here because my burger would always be a mess when I got it. The bun would be smooshed and soggy like it wasn't even there. However, I had heard they had hot dogs-- better yet bacon cheese dogs and they are life changing. While the hot dog itself isn't anything to write home about the bacon and cheese with your choice of additional toppings is what puts it over the top. What I love is that they cut the hot dog in HALF then grill it. Then when it's placed on your bun you get a bit of hot dog in every bite!! They also lay crispy strips of bacon and melted cheese on the bun. I usually add grilled onions and light mayo. The closest clone to an In-N-Out I've ever seen. From colour scheme, atmosphere and basic offerings to price point and how you order. Much like I-n-O, Five Guys also feels sterile inside and they blast the A/C. Clearly they don't want you to stay. Though the concept is almost identical, that's where the similarities end for me. Five Guys suits my taste buds a little better. Just a matter of personal preference though. So, I-n-O zealots, put down your sporks and chill.. jeeeeezzz. :P Hand-formed patties means the opposite of circular perfectly cut-out textbook hamburgers. This beefy patty is amorphous, lumpy as the princess's mattress, and purdy damm good for "fast food". Yeah messy juicy greasy but good. By the way, American is the only cheese that exists in the Five Guys world. The burger's pricier than you'd expect at a fast food resto, but it's quality. No mystery fillers, press-board beef or questionable gristly particles like the stuff at universally recognised burger chains. Plus-- and this is a big one for me-- there is *no* gnarly creepy pink tinge, like in all the I-n-O burgers I've ever had. Medium to rare in a pub or 'full service sit down waiter brings you menu' type eatery is fine, but at a fast food place-- not acceptable. Five Guys patties are cooked through and still taste great. You can save a buck by ordering the mini-burger: same size bun, just less hamburger. The price includes all the toppings if you want them. And I usually do, as I am la fat greedie basterde. Regular size drink is on the pricier side, but I get my money's worth on the endless refill. BRING IT. I can handle a bladder workout. *TMI alert* Which means the restroom at this one got a workout from me too. Yeah I went there...literally. Sorry. There is a din inside, so in that sense Five Guys isn't an ideal spot for conversating with your group. But you can always eat outside, where there's some seating and covering to protect from the elements. OK so... I like my caffeine-free diet Coke. Seldom have I seen it at soft drink dispensing stations. But it's here :D and Five Guys serves Gold Peak brand teas, including the green tea-- refreshing. Five Guys Burgers is just okay. I usually end up paying much more for a meal than at other burger joints in the Bay Area - noteably Smashburger and In-n-Out. Five Guys is definitely the most expensive one for a similar burger size. I like their burgers (customizable with many toppings and different sauces) but they could improve on their buns (during several visits mine was toasted too much and tasted blunt). Apparently five guys working together could not come up with a decent burger. I didn't get the memo that a standard hamburger has two patties. First of all, glad to see you working on bringing down obesity rates. Second of all, gross. Now I know that in the future that I can spend $1 less and get only one patty on my burger, but really - can't you put up a sign mentioning your two patty fixation? Because I really don't like having to waste animals by taking out and trashing a whole patty of them. After the patty removal the burger was only okay - definitely not worthy of my husband's inexplicable fixation. (Thank goodness there's an AG Ferrari nearby and a Rubio's in the same plaza, because sometimes we eat our separate lunches in the Five Guys courtyard. Just don't sit too close to the Five Guys entrance because they BLAST crappy music outside. The best part of the courtyard? The Pinkberry. But I digress.) The fries were pretty good and were served in a cup with skins on. Continuing Five Guys' quest to increase obesity in America it was a HUGE portion. And call me crazy but I like a nice Dijon mustard with my fries. Five Guys only had French's. Blasphemy! Five Guys *does* seem to try with the customer service. It's kind of like In N Out in that the servers are all really nice for a fast food hamburger place. There's even a comment board in the back. ** 3.5 Stars ** Finally got to weigh in and try the phenomenon known as Five Guys. On a cold and rainy night, the crowds were definitely more subdued than I had heard they had been on Grand Opening Day. But it's clear this place is still popular. And they offer an undeniable bang for the buck among quality hamburger chains. Inside, the restaurant really reminds me of In-N-Out. Lots of white, shades of red, and a very clean area with multiple seating areas. There are sacks of potatoes lining up to lead you to the cashier and the peanut oil that is used to fry them. When we went to order, the cashier helpfully asked if we had been there before. I had heard this being a pet peeve when not done, because at Five Guys, the little burgers are simply 1 patty, whereas the regular burgers are 2 patties. Either way, they're generous portions. People don't come here to diet. You have a simple selection of plain, with cheese, with bacon, or with bacon and cheese. From there, you go to a list of about 10-12 toppings, which you can add unlimited to your burger. I went with the "all the way" option which is simply their most popular choices on the top row in black. I did add jalapeno peppers from the bottom row, but a few, such as A1 sauce and BBQ sauce didn't strike my fancy. The next choice was the type of fries. Both are thick cut, deep fried, and well seasoned. The Five Guys type is your typical salted fries. The cajun fries adds a few more seasonings and was our choice. Either way, prepare for large portions and some extra scoops in the bags. It's a great customer service move and, hey, potatoes are relatively cheap. Our burger and fries were ready (all custom made) in about 5 minutes. The regular was definitely a big burger, but even the little was more generously sized than the smaller burgers at fast food chains. I was a bit disappointed the bread was a tad soft and soaked with the sauces I had chosen (ketchup, mustard, mayonnaise), but the cheese and mushroom amounts were perfect. I also definitely tasted the jalapeno peppers. They added a nice kick. The fries were awesome. I've always found In-N-Out fries to be too thin and too flavorless (unless you get them animal style), but these were fantastic. Freshly deep fried and generously seasoned with that cajun goodness. Prob my favorite fries among the Big Name Fancy burger chains (In-N-Out, Shake Shack, and Five Guys). As for the burgers, I definitely enjoyed it and had no problem devouring the 850 calorie portion. It's the most caloric of all the Big Name places, but only by a bit. It definitely hit the spot, but I'd still give the nod to In-N-Out on the West Coast. There's something so right about a Double Double Animal Style and I love the way they toast their bun there compared to here. Either way, you can't go wrong. I'd say Five Guys is actually a bit more affordable than In-N-Out and they give you so much fries that the value proposition for pure amount of food is even higher. If you're a burger fan, you deserve to come here and compare for yourself. As for us, we can't hit the 1000 calorie meals too often, so we'll have to make it a rare visit to either here, In-N-Out, or even better, Shake Shack. As a vegetarian I wasn't sure what their sandwich's consisted of. Let me help lay it out for ya. I'll start with the best deal. 1)Grilled Cheese $2.99: You get bun inverted inside out, so it is toasted. Then you can top is with any of their menu toppings, no extra charge! 2)Cheese Veggie Sandwich $3.49: Pretty much a grilled cheese but the bun is not toasted, and they are facing the proper way convex. I had mushrooms, lettuce and mayo. Split an order of large fries with my friend. Put some of the fries in my sandwich, it was sooo good. They pile on their fries, if you order a regular size, it is a lot for one person. But I think they have some good fries. You know that they are fresh because you see the bags of potatoes as you approach the register. You can munch on some free roasted peanuts while you wait for your order. Not sure why, but that is cool. read more

Now that I've been to Five Guys about three times, I have a more definitive opinion. In my opinion, there's nothing that Five Guys does particularly well. The Cajun fries are better than average, though more consistently good than In N' Out. The burger tends to be very bland, even with bacon, a slice of cheddar and BBQ sauce. If my taste buds are telling me correctly, it's because the patty itself has almost no flavor on its own. The bread buns don't hold their shape well and don't taste particularly good. Usually a good burger leaves me wanting more. Three times, I've gone to Five Guys, I've gotten 3/4 of the way through the burger and then due to a lack of flavor and overly-soaked buns and general messiness, I had no desire to finish the rest. My alternative would be a good Smokehouse burger from Johnny Rockets. read more
