My first Five guys experience--and close to my home too! Solid burger eaten on grand opening day. 4.5 stars Cost to worth it rating: 3 (cheeseburger ~5.50) Return worthiness: yes Eve award: superb online ordering Highlights: - Online ordering: I was surprised it was available on the first day. Extremely easy to pick your items and customize and ready in lightening speed. It took me longer to get there--and I live super close! They can email or text you the status of your order. - Burger: juicy patties: thicker than in and out but thinner than a restaurant burger. Fresh ingredients. - Customization: not only pick your toppings but can choose light or extra for each (at least online). - Cajun fries: sizable fries with cajun sprinkly topping to add some kick and flavor. HUGE portion served in a cup and overfilled even for the smaller size. Lowlights: - Regular is actually quite large. I could actually go small and I'm not a light eater. - No cheese options: just the standard (believe American). Would like options like cheddar or pepper jack Excited to finally try--I remember seeing a special with Obama eating there in DC and saying it's his fave. ;-) Close to home and easy ordering, so I'll be back! read more

I wish it were possible to write a review about a street intersection. If I could, I would sing the praises of Sunnyvale-Saratoga and El Camino Real in Sunnyvale. At this corner, there's a Five Guys, Trader Joe's, OSH, Safeway, Sprouts, Pinkberry, Toys R Us, Panera Bread, a sushi restaurant, a couple sporting goods stores, and a Walgreen's - among other businesses. Virtually everything necessary for a happy and comfortable existence is right here. But I cannot write a review about a street corner, so I'll talk about Five Guys. I went to Five Guys on the day that it opened last fall. Some friends from out East had been promising to take me to Five Guys when I visited them, telling me that it was as good as In-N-Out. Never one to pass up an opportunity for a hamburger, I was intrigued. The opening of this Sunnyvale store saved me the cost of a plane ticket. I won't mince words - I really, really like their burgers. They have a rich flavor, and the toppings have been consistently fresh. Then buns are soft and light, but don't disintegrate when loaded down with sauces. The burgers can be a bit messy to eat, but in my experience it isn't that much different from a double double at In-N-Out. I usually ask for light ketchup and mustard, and this generally solves the messiness issue. I also won't attempt to compare the burgers at In-N-Out and Five Guys. I like both quite a bit, and sometime I have cravings for one but not the other. But the one aspect in which I feel that Five Guys is superior is their fries. I've never liked In-N-Out fries. To me, they always seem soggy and their flavor, though clean, just doesn't do it for me. In the past, I have ordered burgers from In-N-Out and driven down the street to get fries from McDonald's. Five Guys fries, on the other hand, are quite delicious. They are big, crisp, and flavorful. My one quibble is that they do seem greasy, as illustrated by the growing grease stains on the brown paper bags in which one's food is served. The malt vinegar that is available in the restaurant is also a nice touch. Now they just need some mayo dispensers for those of us who got hooked on frites with mayo in Europe. Anyways, in my opinion Five Guys is great, but not everyone will like it. But we all have a choice. Strangely, after having written this, I'm craving White Castle. read more

What can I say...Amazing!! This is my second 5 star review for them. The reason?? Roy!! Man this guy is on it! Excellent service and took care of us with a smile from start to finish. Five guys...Please make sure Roy is recognized for his hard work and service! Let me repeat from the first review: The staff is friendly and attentive. They took good care of me and the burgers are delicious all the time! I'm so glad your here in Sunnyvale. And it's great that they have lettuce wrapped burgers for people like my Mom, who can't eat wheat bread. read more

In n' Out move out and over! The fries at Five Guys is something out of this world. Fresh with skins on, thicker cut (cross between a steak fry & a shoe string) and identified origin by city and state. * The menu offering is pretty limited (fries, hot dogs, hamburgers) * No drive thru * Limited seating (if not a mad dash to stake out tables), opt to take out so you can avoid the headache Burgers are fresh and can be topped with a variety of toppings. I particularly loved all the vegetable additions like bell peppers and mushrooms in addition to lettuce and tomatoes. If only the bun could be extra toasty... Coming back for more? Most definitely, but I'll wait out the rush and come during non-rush meal times. read more

Mmm 5 guys really hits the spot! I'd prefer 5 guys over In n Out any day. The parking lot is crowded because there are so many eateries in this plaza. You're better off parking further away. There's a line even on weekdays, but it moves fairly quickly. It's waiting for your food to be done that can take a while. I really think it's a misnomer to call their single patty burger the little burger and the double a burger. They really should clarify that on the menu. I think they messed up my order a little or someone spilled some relish into the lettuce. Ew. But the burger still tasted good. I watched them make the fries. After they fill the cup with fries they top it off with more fries. Fries overload!! Clean place. Someone comes around to bust the tables and sweep the floor. Bathroom is in good condition. read more

It was my second visit to Five Guys, I went to the one off curtner for the first time and I did not like it. The second visit was a tad better but I am still team IN n OUT heheheeheh. What I like from Five Guys is that you get to customize your burger and put LOTS of Toppings such as Jalapeno, grilled onion, mushroom, bellpepers, etc on your burger and all-you-can-eat roasted peanuts.. yumm! But the prices are a tad higher (double the price at in n out) and they don't have the magical delicious finger-licking good thousand island that's a staple at in-n-out. It is a bigger piece of burger though :). The bread was falling apart as I ate my burger the first time, the second time...it was not as soft and didn't fall/crumble much but I still have to get a lot more convincing to make me switch from in-n-out lover to five-guys lover :) read more

Came here again today. jeez, I cannot get enough of these freakin delicious burgers! 2 days in a row man! NOT GOOD FOR MY BELLY. I felt I had to write another review for this because it CONSISTENTLY proved to be a great burger restaurant. The burger was exactly the same as it was yesterday! beautiful, creamy, warm, delicious! I was talking with one of the people sitting next to our table and we both had to agree that Five Guys burgers were WAY better than In-n-out. I mean In-n-out burgers are just like "oh a burger" but Five Guys burgers give a response like "WOW THIS IS A FREAKIN BURGER!" Try it guys. You'll love it. Its freakin delicious. I'm never going to lose weight. .. read more

In a rare visit to the west coast I figured we'd do a taste test with Five Guys Burgers and In-N-Out Burgers. FULL DISCLOSURE: Apparently, I live in the area where Five Guys was born, but I hold no loyalties to them. (FG) All the way VS (INO) Animal Style Verdict: DRAW! INO burger had a lot more flavor going on than the FG burger, but the pickles were also WAY overpowering which really detracted from the overall flavor. I think without the pickles, the INO Animal Style would have been the clear winner IMHO. (FG) Hamburger VS (INO) Double Verdict: In-N-Out's Double Burger The FG Hamburger has two patties just as the INO Double. I enjoyed both but I preferred INO's Double just slightly over FG Hamburger. A further analysis of each burger. FG appears more appetizing with the sesame covered buns and with bigger patties, but also cost significantly more than INO. So although Five Guys is good, I can't say "Yay! I'm a fan" yet. read more

Rating - 2 Stars I don't understand why people keep comparing Five Guys and In-N-Out as if they're on equal playing fields... In-N-Out is hands down the more superior burger joint between the two. When I tried a burger at Five Guys, the taste of their patty reminded me of McDonald's... I also overheard a customer asking if she could have her patty medium-rare, but apparently, they only cook it well-done; how unfortunate. Their only saving grace would be their fries and the amount they give you, but even then, it was super inconsistent for me. Some of the fries were soggy, some were REALLY soggy, some were burnt, some were crisp, and then the small handfuls of Goldilocks "just right" fries. In-N-Out is just as filling, but cheaper AND more delicious. So if you had to choose between the two, definitely go to In-N-Out. read more

The last time I ever go here. The floor was full of grease from the fries somebody dropped. There were 4 employees and 4 customers. Place was not packed at 3pm Saturday afternoon. Garbage cans were full and tables needed attention and the floor needed some serious sweeping and mopping. My Bacon cheese was a double patty cheese burger without bacon. The fat blonde asked if i wanted the bacon on the side with a plate or a fresh burger. $14 for a bacon cheese and fries and chocolate shake was a waste of time, money and satisfaction. Horrible! Smash Burger, In and Out, The Habit burger grill are better. I tried them all so far and Five Guys is saaaaaaaaad! Want to try a real burger and fries go to Coach's Bar and Grill on Winchester Blvd in Campbell Ca. Try the Fernando Burger! 5 stars. read more

My boyfriend has been raving about Five Guys for months, so when we discovered a location near his house in Sunnyvale, we just had to go. The burgers were decent, but not mind-blowing and the single patty burger seemed a little light on meat for how many calories it was. Seriously though, who wants to know how many calories are in each burger? You know you're going for a burger, you know it's going to be fatty, I don't want it spelled out on the menu! The fries were pretty disappointing - it's a generous serving size, but they're pretty mushy, not crispy at all, and the grease soaked through the brown paper bag before we got it to our table. Love the free peanuts, but not the peanut shells all over the floor. My first Five Guys definitely did not live up to expectations, but given the rave reviews, I might just have to give it another try. read more

I ordered a bacon burger bowl through DoorDash but when it arrived it looked like leftover dog food. I've ordered the same thing many times from other locations and I've never been as disappointed as I was today. First off, they didn't put any bacon in my bowl. Why would someone order a bacon burger with no bacon? Secondly the meat looked like two shriveled up over cooked patties. And finally there was barely any lettuce or pickles in the bowl. I should've got a protein style burger at In n Out instead at least they're not stingy with the lettuce. Aside from the sad burger bowl. My dasher spilled my milkshake, so I got a crappy burger bowl and spilled shake. Worst dinner ever! read more

Burger, Burger is what I come here for, not the fries, not the hot dogs, the burger. Now the main question everybody is going to ask "Is Five Guys Better than In and Out?"....well when it comes to burgers it is, the bun, the meat patties, the toppings that are in the burger. If you a true carnivore like me u will taste the juiciness of Five Guy's Burger compared to that of a In and Out Burger. Now this location of Five Guys is probably the best as it has so many other places as alternatives around it in case yr buddies are not up for burgers. Parking can get pretty hectic around here during the weekdays for lunch as so many workers trying to grab lunch but it's not too bad. They also have outdoor seating and once you order you don't have to wait inside for your food with the rest of the mob, you can have a seat outside and just listen to the outdoor speaker to call your number. I usually get my burger To-Go and then once I get home I drop some In and Out Spread to make my burger complete. Final Thoughts: When it comes to burgers-Five Guys is Boss, when it comes to Fries: In and Out is Boss...Simple as that in my opinion! read more

Solid place for a burger. We got a bacon cheeseburger and a small cheeseburger and regular fries for about $20. A regular fries is enough for two people to share. And fries are big and tasty. My small cheeseburger was great and I like it with all the toppings. They also have extra toppings you can get and customize what you want. The cheese could be slightly more melted. They cook it when you order it. So it can take a little bit of time to get your order but you can get a basket of peanuts to whet your palate. Oh and this location has plenty of seating, indoors and outdoors. read more

Am I missing something, guys? Only 3.5 stars?! I have to disagree... Large, clean location with plenty of parking right off El Camino. Service is friendly and efficient. Burgers were delish; so fresh and juicy! Even better were the cajun fries! (Not the regular, the CAJUN fries!) Make sure you get those if you like a little spice in your life. I tok 3 guys to Five Guys for their first time and they loved it! For 4 people, the total came up to a little over $40. Yes, pricey for fast food, but it's a splurge that you don't eat everyday; heck, I don't even eat here every other month so I'm willing to splurge. A chicken sandwich value meal at McDonald's is over $6; I'll spend an extra $4 for Five Guys quality anytime! read more

Prefacing this by saying this review is solely about how this location handles Google orders specifically. The food, and staff, are excellent and I've eaten here many times before via Google. However, this time I went most recently was extremely disappointing and left me feeling totally ripped off. I placed my order well in advance via my phone, had a confirmation email and everything, but was still told that "the order didn't go through" and to "put it through again", even after showing the staff the email multiple times. I get it was a busy time of day, but the system here needs to be more organized! Why should I have to pay twice at that point? Isn't the confirmation email enough? And why should I trust a company that already took my money in the first place? After waiting nearly 25 minutes for ONE BURGER, I left in frustration as I was told to simply get in line and place my order again with the cashier. I was not offered a refund. Great burgers, and friendly staff, but an extremely frustrating Google order process. Some real work needs to be done here. I do not recommend making Google Food orders at this location, ever. read more

Want a burger made your way? Want one that doesn't have too much pepper & salt added to it? Like a lot of toppings, but hate having to pay for all of them? Then you want to check out Five Guys. Five Guys is a DC-area based chain that specializes in burgers, Ocean City style fries, and is known for having free peanuts while you wait. The basic burger is two patties, and you can have as many or as little of their burger toppings as you want - at no additional cost! The little burger is just one patty, with all the burger toppings you want. Their fries are made Ocean-City style; cooked in peanut oil, and oh so tasty. If you look at the small size cup of fries, they essentially serve you two heaping cupfuls of that for a small order, or two heaping cupfuls of the large for the large order. Their soda machine is pretty awesome, too, as they have a diet option (Sprite Zero) that's not the typical crappy diet cola. The lines at this place are still pretty long, so come outside of normal eating hours, or be prepared to wait in line for a while. However, once the food is ordered, it comes out pretty quickly. read more

--- Looks Like I'm West Coast re: Burgers --- Read about it in Inc Magazine, saw it in the papers, and one just opened up near our daughter's weekly music class. So we were psyched to try it out. Crowded but I actually crowds at a restaurant (if you're not in a rush). But overall, a disappointment for me. I guess I'm an In n Out guy. + They put two patties in their burgers. Even for this meat-lover, I felt a little over-meated by the end, but you really can't count that as anything but a plus. + The patties do honestly feel hand-formed rather than hitting the grill as a frozen patty. + Love their "everything is included -- nothing is extra" philosophy regarding the burger. + They don't skimp on portions of anything. The regular serving of fries is pretty generous. Their burgers as previously discussed are pretty huge. + Decent value for the money as it comes to size and filling you up. + Fun decorations inside. A little tacky on how much self-promotion inside (I get it, you've won tons of awards but listing every single one all over the inside of your walls makes it feel like a college application), but it's fun and bright. + Awesome shared courtyard outside. The shopping plaza has done a great job of this. Found some excellent food options (Rubio's, Pinkberry, Panera, Pizza My Heart, etc.) and then designed a fun, sunny (with shade options) pair of courtyards that's hip, well-spaced out, and accessible. - Burger LOOKED good, it was big, but it didn't taste good. Not that it was bad, but mostly just that it was bland. Perhaps the meat not seasoned enough, perhaps not enough sauce (they use straight up ketchup, mayo, mustard but didn't taste a lot of it). - An old "been in the fridge awhile" taste to the lettuce. Couldn't taste the tomato at all. - Really limited menu. Occasionally (_really_ occasionally), I'm disappointed with In N Out because of the sparseness of their menu. Five Guys is even more sparse. Biggest omission for me today was a milkshake. - The staff looks busy but given the number of them, it feels the food could have been dished up faster. Hate to keep going back to In N Out, but In N Out probably has half the staff and can get food out faster, and they're both dealing with really fresh ingredients rather than pre-packaged service accelerators. - I like crowds so lining up for food was actually fun for me. Besides, everyone was so excited to be there, that was a good vibe. But the dining area is a complete zoo. Tough to be in there. Highly advise going outside in the nice shared courtyard. * Fries were just ok. Was so looking forward to this given all the enormous sacks of peanuts, the talk of peanut oil, etc. * Parking can get busy too (esp around meal times) because of all the food choices. read more

Yes! Yes! YES! This is everything a burger place should be, and it's why I can't give In-n-Out five stars. Quick hints for the uninitiated: * The sign is not very visible from El Camino. Turn in like you're going to the Safeway, and it is right there on the corner, just behind/between Rubio's and The Vitamin Shoppe. * The default burger is a double. A single is a "little burger." The patties are thicker than In-n-Out's, but they still manage to get the burgers in your hand faster somehow. * Five Guys celebrates grease. Join the celebration. * Yes, you can have bacon with that. Even the grilled cheese. (Maybe especially the grilled cheese.) * If you ask for "everything on it" or "all the way," you get all the condiments in black on the big overhead menu (photo uploaded). (I was hoping for something different with "all the way," but there is no secret hostess bar in back apparently.) All toppings are free. * The fries are fresh cut and taaasssssteeeeeee. * Don't come here if you are allergic to peanuts; there are shelled peanuts everywhere (not on the floor, just in baskets to munch while you're in line), and I believe the fries are done in peanut oil. read more

My Mom told me about this place a few months ago, so when I came home for winter break, we went for lunch. It's located in a fairly new plaza with a Panera Bread, Pizza My Heart, Rubios, and more shops on the other side. When we pulled in, the parking lot was pretty full; lots of cars were circling. When I got out of the car I immediately noticed that the line for Five Guys was out the door. Mom says it's like that virtually all the time! As we were waiting to place our order my brother walked off to search for a table and hawked over a space for the three of us. Heh...there aren't many tables inside, so this is what everyone does. The walls are lined with posters stating its voting rank among buger joints and magazine articles; I glanced at an article and it stated that Five Guys got its start at a university in Florida. There's a stack of potato sacks that acts as the line barrier. As you wait for your order to be called you can also grab a handful of peanuts...yum. Regular burger: 2 hamburger patties Little burger: 1 hamburger patty You can also choose between the hamburger, bacon burger, bacon cheeseburger. What's inside: All The Way includes all the items listed in black on the menu -- ketchup, mayo, mustard, mushrooms, grilled onions, pickles, tomato, etc. Everything in black is free of charge; I'm guessing the items in red are extra. We orderd 2 regular burgers, a little bacon cheeseburger, regular fries, and regular cajun fries -- $21 I thought the burger was pretty filling; a fresh and delicious classic American hamburger. In n Out has a distinct taste with the spread they use inside; its also small and dainty in comparison to a Five Guys Burger. This place takes the classic juice hamburger and takes it a step further with fresh ingredients. The regular fries are really good; I love fries made from fresh potatoes! I liked the cajun ones too, good flvaor but a bit too spicy and salty. They should have a combo deal...all items are priced separately. read more

I've reviewed Five Guys before (Fremont location). Simply put, FG is on my fav list; and I-N-O is not. Wanted to add, for a grand opening day (today), at 8p, the line was out the door. However, the line moved QUICK, and orders came faster than expected. The place was packed. This location is nice because there's common tables outside. High Five to the developers of the complex. Parking, well, you need to know where to park and walk. You'll get there faster than someone circling around. When all the shops in this redeveloped stripmall is occupied, then let's see how parking really can be, but for now, parking at this complex isnt bad. Restroom is single person, not the best if you need to wash your hands and have to wait in a line. read more

I stopped coming here because my burger would always be a mess when I got it. The bun would be smooshed and soggy like it wasn't even there. However, I had heard they had hot dogs-- better yet bacon cheese dogs and they are life changing. While the hot dog itself isn't anything to write home about the bacon and cheese with your choice of additional toppings is what puts it over the top. What I love is that they cut the hot dog in HALF then grill it. Then when it's placed on your bun you get a bit of hot dog in every bite!! They also lay crispy strips of bacon and melted cheese on the bun. I usually add grilled onions and light mayo. I want to compare it to an LA dog because of the toppings but the tastes are very different from each other. Its about $7 for one of these. It's definitely a must try!! read more

Well, the upside is that there's plenty of seats, compared to the one in Belmont. Unfortunately, my burger was room temperature. When I looked at the kitchen, I knew why. They had open face burgers sitting on the stainless table and nobody was putting it together. Burgers seem to sit there open face. Very strange. In and Out is hotter and taste better. read more

I enjoyed my burger very much. It was fresh and taste good. My first Five Guys experience at a different location was not so fresh, so I might as well go to In and Out. My boyfriend brought me here because this place is supposedly In-N-Out's rivalry in the bay area. We arrived on a rainy day, and as soon as we walked up to the store, all I could see is a sea of people waiting/eating inside. After I walked in and I started smelling freshly made hamburgers/fries that smell oh-so-familiar (seriously reminded me of In-N-Out) and I thought to myself, "Wow, this place must be amazing!" I looked at the menu and I was completely lost (kind of like my very first time at Chipotle). I didn't really understand how to order so my boyfriend had to explain to me...I then noticed that everything was quite expensive compared to In-N-Out. Then my boyfriend said their serving is slightly larger & that a regular order of fries can feed more than 2 people...okay, I guess the prices are starting to make sense if the sizes are slightly larger. I ended up getting a regular cheeseburger with all of the standard ingredients (my boyfriend ordered a regular cheeseburger...but somehow the cashier heard "large"...there's not even a slight resemblance between the 2 words! =T). We also ordered an order of regular fries...then it was a battle to find a table (and there's only 2 of us). We stood by and stared down at some people hoping we could scare them away, and finally a table for 2 opened up! =) Our food came pretty fast too, and I was pretty excited by then to actually taste my burger/fries! The first thing my boyfriend did was lay out all the fries on the bag so they're on a flatter surface (rather than standing in the paper cup) because apparently they start to get real soggy if you leave them in the cup...HMM... Then we started with our burger, mine was wrapped okay but the one my boyfriend got was REALLY runny/dirty and had oil/meat juice all over the place. I took my first bite and...nothing except pickles and meat. Well, all the ingredients were in the burger, but I literally only tasted pickles and the meat as I slowly finished my burger. The ingredients are bland. The bun was SUPER soft and lacks substance...by the end I have to hold on to my burger with my dear life because the bun is almost flattened to the thickness of a sheet of paper. The fries were pretty decent...but they didn't taste like anything special to me. They did provide unlimited peanuts (which I don't understand why!), but I didn't get to try any since we were pretty full by the end. Overall, the serving size is slightly larger than In-N-Out, which is reasonably priced (maybe over-priced considering the lack of flavor/taste). An order of regular fries can feed more than 2...but honestly, I would rather go to In-N-Out anytime any day rather than coming to this place! Sorry, 5 Guys! read more

Like my previous Five Guys review from San Diego, same ol same ol. Come here for the (nearly) bottomless fries, don't expect a particularly amazing burger. The fries are definitely better than In-N-Out, if only because you can actually taste some potato in it and the Cajun spice seasoning is money. But the burger still is generic, and the only saving grace is all the crap you can throw in it. It serves its purpose: a change-up for In-N-Out, nothing more. read more

Great spot to come to for a simple hamburger! I'd compare it to a hamburger from In&Out. - it is a little greasy which I'm not a huge fan of.. bread gets soggy mid way. Especially if you get "everything" like my boyfriend. - free peanuts which I don't care for - they recently started offering shakes--- will have to try it out next time! read more

Five guys is okay for the amount you want to pay for a burger. The advantage is that you get to customize the burger the way you want it to be, albeit the options are limited to what they have available. the hamburger patty is cooked well and the Cajun fries are really great. Their generosity is displayed by their willingness to provide all you can eat peanuts and extra fries at no added costs. Their style is loud and high-energy. People working behind the counter are always yelling about what they are making so it takes a bit of concentration to listen in on your order as they may call out your number between the yelling and noise. read more

if you're asking me to compare five guys to in-n-out, there's no competition; in-n-out wins. Hands down. But rating the burger by itself, it was just meh. the patty wasn't seasoned enough so it was a little bland. Nothing too special, in fact the bun got so soaked up with condiments and grease that it fell apart as I was eating it. The fries were greasy and soggy and it didn't really taste like how Cajun fries should taste. I have been hounding this place ever since I knew it was opening up. I even showed up a week before it opened because I thought it was opened. The one thing that really intrigued me is the free unlimited toppings. The idea that you can customize your burger is great. I think this gives a uniqueness to each burger. As far as comparing it to In & Out...it's different. I would only give the edge to 5 guys for the toppings. Otherwise I feel the burgers are the same...which is to say they are both very good. The fries are thick cut and are delicious. I had the cajun fries which are the normal fries with cajun seasoning. The regular burgers are double patties and the little burgers are single patties. It was a great surprise getting the double patty on my order. Unexpectedly awesome. I wish they sold shakes too but you can't have it all. menu: http://www.fiveguys.com/menu.aspx read more

Very clean, friendly staff. I'm trying the keto life and our cashier (Destin F) was really helpful describing how I could make any burger into a bowl. A couple co-workers and I decided to check out Five Guys today, and were the first customers in the door. Five Guys does live up to most of the hype. But get there early, it's a horrible, crowded parking lot. For a regular cheeseburger, regular fries and a soda, it's 11 bucks. Sure, that's not a ton of money, but it's pretty pricey for fast food (they will probably claim to not be a "fast food joint"). The default burger at Five Guys is a actually a double, with nothing on it. You have the choice to pick between any of about 30 free toppings, which they will put on for you. The burger was very good, I like that grilled onions and grilled mushrooms are among the free toppings, that list isn't just "generic" lettuce, pickles and ketchup. I wasn't ready to be presented with all of these choices, and perhaps I didn't give enough thought to my toppings. The free peanuts while you wait are nice, and because they make everything fresh after you order, it does take a little while longer than you would expect to get your food. The fries are huge...can easily be shared by 2 or 3 people. They are good fries. One of my co-workers got the cajun fries, and they are even better than the regular ones. In comparison terms, it's a better burger than In-N-Out, but at twice the price...it's not twice as good. It's not as good of a burger as the Counter, but it is much less expensive. So perhaps it fills that happy medium in between those two. I'm looking forward to having a blind taste test between Five Guys, In-N-Out and a few others. My suggestion to Five Guys is move away from the naked burger thing, and come up with a standard sauce/veg combo. The naked burger is just missing a little bit of zing...and I think that a lot of people who are new to this place are going to order something that disappoints them. *** Upon further review, and after visiting In-N-Out, I must amend the above statements. A burger from Five Guys is not as good as a double double from In-N-Out. read more

If you've read the other reviews you know what to get: Bacon cheeseburger with grilled mushrooms and grilled onions - and may I also recommend lettuce, tomato, BBQ sauce, ketchup, mustard. Crazy fresh, delicious, juicy - money. But be warned: the "regular" burgers are actually double patty monsters, with a rather excessive meat ratio. So grab one of the "mini" ones which are just single burgers and not exactly small. Skip the Cajun fries (dry, potatoes too thick) and the dogs with toppings (they are kosher style, meaning crazy salty, so do NOT get them with cheese or bacon or anything else salty your mouth will implode). But on second thought, DO get the fries but don't eat them; when you order fries they dump a huge extra helping in the bag on top of your order, keeping it extra warm! read more

After finally getting a chance in San Diego of checking out a Five Guys, I then learned that there's one not too far from the office - so today, several of us took off to go check it out. Walking in, same look/feel as the one in SD (as I pointed out there, kind of a cross between Fuddrucker's and In-N-Out). The line moved VERY quickly, and we placed our orders, moi (shocking, I know) a swiss/bacon burger (including the cajun fries...yum!). While ordering, I noticed one interesting little tidbit...there's a sign on the wall letting everyone know where today's potatoes came from. A piece of truly worthless information - the kind I like. :-) Our # was called, and grubbing down commenced. Same damned great burger (but smaller....I learned from the last visit...do NOT order the regular burger unless you are either an 18 year old male (with said metabolism) or weigh 450+). And same great cajun fries. This place IS a bit smaller, so you may want to avoid rush hours - but the line does move quickly, so presumably the table turnover does too. A definite thumbs up! read more

Not gonna come back anytime soon, the food just isnt that good. Yes its fresh and its quality ingredients, but the burger lacks flavor and isnt remarkable in any way. The fries are good but stomach feels a little weird afterward, i think its the chemical additives in the peanut oil - check the label on the boxes of oil. Little known secret - armadillo willy's (we go to the one in san mateo fashion island) has the best fast-casual burgers in bay area. Thick, juicy, flavorful - its our official replacement for shake shack after leaving manhattan. Fries are pretty tasty too. We still love in-and-out but sometimes wait is long and i dont know if things changed in the past few years but the patty is kinda thin read more

Arrived at five guys from a recommendation from my great uncle. Five guys is like an upscale in n out where you can customize your burger with various toppings. The toppings are not a lot as there are only 13 toppings and three sauces. You can order different burgers (only four options). There are single patty burgers and double patty burgers. They are called little burgers for the single patty. We arrived early at around 11:30am and just beat the lunch crowd. I ordered the bacon burger which is a double patty burger. I ordered it with grilled onions and BBQ sauce. I also ordered fries which were ok but not super great. You have the option of getting small and large sizes of fries. The large fries serves about four people. You receive your food in a paper bag that you end up tearing to get to your food. You end up throwing away the bag since your food does not arrive on any type of tray. I guess they really don't care about the environment. Try it at least once since Obama brought his crew to the one in DC. This one is only a month old so I believe once the hype dies down, then this location will not be as busy. Parking is in the lot. It does get busy here and people tend to hog tables. There is outdoor seating as well but it is shared with Pizza My Heart, Panera Bread and Pinkberry. read more

I am not a huge fan of hamburgers. I will eat it if someone else wants to grab one, but I will never be the one suggesting it. I will, however, go to Five Guys just for their fries. Their burger buns are always soggy and falling apart, and I feel like I need to get "the works" + jalapeno + extra pickles + hot sauce just to build up some sort of flavor. I would much rather go to In-N-Out for a burger, especially since it is almost half the price of Five Guys. BTW their large order of fries has like 1200 calories. read more
