Went there last night with a friend. we both ordered a 'small cheeseburger' (it is not smaller in diameter, it is a one patty burger), one lettuce wrapped, one w/ bun, a med. order of cajun fries and one shake. the total was over $30! But I waited to see what the food looked like. The shake was thick and delish, a 'double shake' (not sure what that meant), but it was very good. My burger (lettuce wrapped), had a very small meat patty on it. I was shocked. For a $9 I expected a stupendous burger... all the signage saying 'best burger'. When I ate it the lettuce fell off. It wasn't 'wrapped', it had a few pieces around it, so eating it was very messy. It had ketchup, onions, pickles. When I ate it, the burger being so small, I did not taste the beef At All! Very sad. Fries were plentiful. Smaller ones were stiffer and crunchier, larger ones were drooped over. Good flavor, but I would say they didn't pay particular attention while making them. I took my amazing boyfriend for his first five guys burgers and fries trip. The burger still checks out it's still fantastic and everything you want in a good burger. The staff was very friendly. I loved the fact they gave me fresh sliced jalapeños they had quite the kick. My hubby loved his burger as well said it was really good. The fries on the other hand.......they ain't what they used to be. We got a hot but soggy(some of them not even fully cooked) batch of fries. It was such a shame and a big let down especially since it's my hubby's first time there not to mention the signs on the wall mentioning their "crispy fries" or something of that nature. The person on the fryer cooked them for a minute then had them sitting we were guessing par cooked then finished off when a customer comes in?? That's all well and good but at least don't over load the fryer and actually "COOK" them then that method would work. Said they were open till 9. I get there at 8:30 the sing still says "Open". I walk up and the door is locked and they workers inside are shaking their heads like they are closed. I walk away and call them just to ask if they closed early and I also let them know the sign is still on and says "open". The guy literally replies "okay" and hangs up on me. Terrible customer service and they need to untuck themselves. Management needs to fix this asap. read more

I hate to do this, but I gotta be real! Lets start by saying "I LOVE CHEESEBURGERS"! I had a good feeling when I walked in by the look of the place, but then I ate one! They do give you two burgers on a regular but that is all they had going on. Not cooked well, taste left a lot to be desired and the fries we not fully cooked. I honestly don't know what all the hype is all about. I was not impressed by the hamburger here. It is a nice place to hang out for teens though and you will get great service, but Five Guys is very pricey, you can get a better deal and meal elsewhere. Went here for lunch today after hearing all the rave about this joint... First off, it's a very basic menu. But, be careful what you order. The "normal" size burgers are called little burgers. That threw me off. When I saw that, I was thinking like a kids size burger... which is not the case at all. If you order a regular cheeseburger, you're getting double patties. I think the menu should state that, otherwise it might as well be false advertising. As for the fries, I got the little fries, and that was more than enough for me. The soda machine is probably the best part of this place. It's touch screen and gives you various soda flavor options. A little complicated to work (if you're someone like me) that just likes the standard soda machine. Press and go. The menu... is very basic. No milkshakes. No combos. Burgers, fries, hot dogs, sandwiches, drinks. The restaurant is disgusting. They have FREE PEANUTS in a bin by the door to snack on while you wait. And the worst part about that? THE PEANUT SHELLS ARE ALL OVER THE GROUND. What kind of restaurant allows their guests to litter on the floor? I'd assume they don't clean it up until 10PM closing, because it looked absolutely disgusting. Not to mention, this place is VERY loud. You can hear the cooks yelling at one another, the loud music and people singing to it... You can barely hear the cashier as she's leaning towards you trying to hear your order. As far as the food goes... Very mediocre. It was really nothing special to me. I would have preferred red onions, instead of the chunks of white onions I got on my burger. My burger was extremely soggy... to the point where my meat was falling apart and sliding off my bun. It was cooked well done, but I've had better. The fries, were seasoned fries. Again, nothing special. Can I just ask what burger joint does NOT have dipping sauces? SUCH AS... RANCH? I know why In N Out doesn't, and that doesn't bother me considering they have SPREAD.. but.. really, no condiments besides ketchup? This place is above your normal Mc Donalds and Jack in the box, but below In n out burger. For the amount of food I had gotten (a little cheeseburger, plain hot dog, two orders of little fries and two regular soft drinks) was $20. That is an outrageous price for me to pay for the quality of the food I had eaten. There is MUCH better competition in that immediate vicinity. For better food, and less of a price, drive down the street to In N Out Burger or The Habit Burger and Grill.. You won't be sorry. I won't be coming back. Step up your game, Five Guys. read more

Only 2 guys working! Waited 20 minutes for my food. Got a cheese burger and it had American cheese or Velvita not sure which. In and Out is 4 times better at 1/3 the price. The fries were ok just a little pasty. The free peanuts didn't make up for the cost or quality. read more

Woohoo! Opening day! It's nice to have some options like hot dogs for my kid who doesn't like burgers (I know, right?). Nice and clean. Burger was good; fries - and I'm usually of the opposite opinion - were a little too salty (I was there at the same time as the other reviewer who mentioned this so it may have been opening day hiccups); only one thing incorrect with the order (10-year-old ordered a "little" and we got a "regular"). Given there were 16 people working behind the counter and it was incredibly noisy, I thought they did a great job. Second visit: The pendulum has swung in the other direction and now the fries aren't salty enough. I wish I hadn't said anything because I'm a big fan of salt on fries, especially when applied fresh out of the fryer. "You can always add more," you say? Expensive waste of time. The service and staff are energetic, but that's about the only good thing about this place. They may have been named best burger place, but as you see from the signs, it's from local magazines from the East coast, where they originated. In-n-Out has much better burgers and fries for a much cheaper price. Five Guy's burgers were greasy and their fries limp. Expect to pay around $45 for a family of four here. I will say that the menu options for toppings are very vast, but even still bacon and onions and on mine weren't of great quality. I can't imagine coming here to quench my burger cravings...I'll stick with In-n-Out or go to a restaurant. read more

I'm not going to lie the food here is really freaking delicious and the amount of fries they give you is Huge. However this place, like all other 5 Guys is extremely overpriced (even more overpriced than Smashburger). Also the burger is over before you even realize it. For someone looking for an even more delicious alternative to 5 Guys that has a motor vehicle I recommend going to a place in Escondido (and all over L.A.) called Fatburger. While still pricy(but much less pricy than 5 guys) the portions are enormous and it is extremely delicious. read more

Heard it is famous so went for a try. Meh...over priced. Burger is over $8 and over $5 for a milk shake. The variety is good but still not worth $8+ for a burger. Meat is fresh but be aware the milkshake is taking long time to make. Almost finished the big giant burgers and the milk shake came at the end. Restaurant is at a small street mall with Michaels. Interior is clean but not a enjoyable outdoor sitting. Would prefer in-n-out with the same quality but much cheaper in price. read more

I just have no idea why this franchise is popular. The burgers aren't anything special. The fries are good, but not great. The atmosphere is okay, but would be a lot better if it wasn't like sitting in a refrigerator with a loud radio on. The best thing about Five Guys is their soda machine and all the options you have for drinks... but that isn't worth the price you pay for a meal. A solid 3. The regular burger is actually 2 patties and each one is much thicker than in-n-out. It's not the cheapest burger out there, but you definitely get what you pay for here as far as size goes. You can customize your burger anyway you want. They taste as a burger should - nothing spectacular or creative but not horrible either. You do end up leaving full. The kids love the soda machine too. BRING A JACKET!!!! We eat here once or twice a month, but the last few times they had the AC turned way up. They said it's because the kitchen gets too hot. But IT'S SO COLD IN THE DINING AREA it's uncomfortable to eat and our food got cold very quickly. We ended up eating outside twice because it was warmer. They should consider the comfort of their customers over their employees. The employees were always in a good mood though - very welcoming and friendly. read more

While I enjoy eating there food, I can only give them 2 stars for there customer service and food orders. I order on line all the time and no less than 3 times has my burger been made wrong with items missing even though the receipt list the item. Also they have recently started only putting half of the fries that they used to. This has happened on numerous occasion so I feel it is a conscious effort to cut back. It is to the point I feel I am not getting what I am paying for. It must only be this location because the Clairemont location doesn't have the issue of getting stingy with fries. My husband and I love their burgers! They are fresh and you can have all those delicious toppings without an extra charge! AWESOME. I highly recommend the cajon fries (addictive) but be warned the small is HUGE so you can probably get one to share with a few people. We go here at least once a week now that we've moved to Poway. Daughter went in and ordered a veggie sandwich ( she is a vegetarian) sandwich came back with meat in it. Asked if they could make another and after the person behind the counter was done arguing with her for a moment he finally agreed. Then she had to listen to them make fun of vegetarians while they re-made her sandwich. She wasn't too confident that there wouldn't be meat in it again so she ended up giving it to a homeless gentleman. Only negatives is the wait can be a while some times. But its is fresh. Whats the fastest you could cook a burger at home? Also there is price. I love this place and don't quite understand why they only got 3 out of 5 stars. Yes it's a little bit pricey but like the saying goes, you get what you pay for. The regular burgers and cheeseburgers are really two patties and two slices of cheese. The regular order of fries can also easily be split among two people. I could only eat half of my order. Lol. I've gone to Five Guys in Poway for the last time. The worst part wasn't even how overpriced the food is. The music was so loud that I kept having to correct the order as I placed it, because she couldn't hear me. After a few minutes, I asked if they could turn the music down just a little. She still must have had trouble hearing me because she turned it way down. That was actually fine, but the guys in the kitchen immediately began singing (badly) at the tops of their voices. They were yelling to each other and horsing around and laughing so loudly, we got the idea it was a routine they launch when a customer asks for the music to be turned down a little. We were almost the only customers there at 6:00 on a Tuesday night. Maybe we were the last people in Poway to figure out this place doesn't deserve our business. Lesson learned. read more
