The bartender, JP, was awesome and kind! The owner, Rebecca, is just as sweet! They give the place an awesome welcoming! We have loved checking out this area of town and this will become a go to spot for us. I loved the variety of food menu items they have and I know they are known for the variety of beer options they have but as a wine lover I do appreciate the wine options as well. Best part is they are very dog friendly so our puppy can come and enjoy it with us. This little part of town is so cute and very walkedable with others spots around as well. We came for an appetizer and drinks to enjoy while watching the padres game so we got the loaded tots which we really enjoyed their tots are perfectly crispy which we loved but we saw lots of other food come out as well that we will be coming back for like the burgers and tacos! The people working were so kind and I really don't mind counter ordering because it makes it so I can get up an order whenever I want. Plenty of outdoor seating which makes it so dog and family friendly but I can not wait to come back, probably tonight or tomorrow haha because we had such a great time here! read more

I cannot believe I have overlooked this place for the last 5 years! The Hop Stop is nestled in the heart of Old Poway Village and just celebrated their milestone 5 year anniversary. I took the opportunity to visit recently and I'm so glad I did. I just love the indoor/outdoor vibe that is welcoming to dogs, groups, and private parties . I believe they feature live music on Saturdays. Such nice spacious environs to relax and enjoy their impressive selection of craft beers on tap. I had the pleasure of meeting the owner and she was so nice and hospitable. The menu here has a fantastic selection of pub grub culinary delights. I look forward to trying many of them. For my inaugural visit I ordered the "Smashburger" and it was outstanding! Made with a smashed beef patty with jalapeno & red onion, topped with pickles, bacon, garlic aioli and American cheese on a soft, tasty brioche bun. While the jalapeno and red onion were difficult to discern, that garlic aioli really sang through. The bacon was abundant throughout and had a nice well-done crispness and satisfying chew. I chose Tots for the side, and they were excellent! Hot, crispy, and fried well done, just how I like them. I will be back soon to try more things on the menu as well as test drive some new beers I've never had before. Highly recommended. read more

I organized a birthday party here and it was a fantastic experience! I worked with Rebecca, the events manager at The Hop Stop, for our party of around 16 people. They set aside a semi-private space on the beer-garden style patio on the side of the restaurant which seemed ideal at first. Unfortunately it was boiling hot that Saturday afternoon, so we ended up moving the party inside where it was much more bearable. The staff was extra helpful with moving my party and provided an extra 6-foot folding table so I could move my setup (my themed backdrop and balloons with a tablecloth I brought). Much appreciated! I loved the relaxed atmosphere and vibe and helpful staff. Food-wise, everything worked out great. I'm used to organizing events where I order a bunch of platters and end up with too many leftovers. The setup here was much better -- they don't do party platters here and encouraged me to order a bunch of appetizers, which I did. It worked out better to do it that way and also have my guests order their own entrees and drinks at the counter and put it all on my tab. The staff also provided drink tickets which were helpful. All the food was delicious and the menu had a wide selection of American pub fare -- burgers, tacos, even salads. And because everyone ordered stuff when they got there all the food was hot and fresh and I didn't have to deal with leftovers! Excellent selection of beers on tap and an overall chill vibe. Parking was great, as there is a private lot in the back of the restaurant in addition to the spaces in front. I was worried parking would be hard because of the Farmers Market ending right before my party but it worked out just fine and guests didn't have any issues with finding parking. We will definitely be back next time we want to organize a party in a restaurant, and also just for a relaxing lunch or dinner. read more

I hate to give a mediocre review, but the service while ordering from the bar tonight was quite uncomfortable. I am really good TIPPER .. always have been. We have been owners of multiple businesses in the area and have been in the service industry for 40 years + and completely understand when people are busy and stressed out. That was not the situation. It was a Saturday night. The live music ended (7:50 pm) and it was clearing out so she wasn't busy. This was a completely different situation than I'm used to. It was hard to explain, The bartender, a.k.a. waitress behind the bar was very rude. Actually, I don't even know if she was rude. She was completely unhelpful and adept. It was obvious it was the first time @thehopstop.. She was very indignant with us not knowing the menu. I thought it was just me. Our party was a party of five.. after we ordered we asked our friends if they had the same experience ordering and they said yes "she was horribley rude".. after making our order and sitting down the servers were extremely nice and very helpful. It helped change our thoughts completely and we left with a good to decent experience! Thank God their support staff cause I would give a -2 stars if it wasn't for the super helpful staff delivering food. Sad because the food was great. Prices were decent love the live music and kid friendly environment. After being in Poway for 40+ years. I'm happy to see a local business doing well and I love the location and will try it again. Much better bar food than your typical brewery. Although I probably wouldn't order again what we chose this past Sunday. The breading for the fried pickles were far too salty for my taste. While I felt the bone-in wings were dry, the boneless wings were juicier, but I didn't love either of the sauces. Definitely wouldn't come back here for the wings, but I've been here a few times before and really enjoyed some of their other menu items. I would absolutely try their other burgers, since the West Coast burger was pretty good. I do wish they toasted the buns as the bread was a lil soggy which I'm sure could have been a result of the bbq sauce as well. Came in for my first time on a Sunday afternoon. Overall I enjoyed my experience. My only gripe was that service was on the slow side. In their defense, we came in shortly after they opened, so staff was still coming in as groups were ordering. Since we came in early, there was PLENTY of seating options inside and out. We order the Morning Burger and Breakfast Sandwich. The Morning Burger was tasty and filling, with a decent amount of bacon and avocado. The Sandwich on the other hand was supposed to come with a sausage patty. Instead it came with cut up sausage links, which wasn't BAD, but wasn't what I expected. As for drinks, they have a great selection of beers. I always have to try the house IPA. Their IPA is a little on the lighter side, which I enjoyed during the warm morning. That being said, this place has an open concept. The dining room was a little dark while the sun was rising, which kept it cool. Outside definitely got warm as time went on, so if you're looking for a cool, air conditioned building, you MIGHT have to look elsewhere (I'm sure they have AC, I just don't think it was hot enough for them to shut everything and start it, it's worth asking if you come in) read more

My family and I stopped at the Hop Stop last night for a quick dinner before a movie. We've been here before once and really enjoyed it. It's a fun low key casual place where everyone working there treats you like a regular. You order at the bar and then find your table. There are some tables inside but more are outside in the shade. Both times we were there the weather was warm but in the shade it was perfect. The servers will bring you your meals when they are ready. This means not everyone gets their food at the same time. This is a pet peave of mine and I'm seeing it at more and more establishments. There is a way to plan the tables meals to arrive at the same time. The food is good, mostly burgers, sandwiches, and salads. Lots of beer choices. This is a family and dog friendly place that attracts some of the friendliest patrons. Both times we have had adjacent tables strike up conversations with our group. Trivia is on Monday nights at 6:00 and according to the bartender it can get pretty packed. Might go back for that. Such a fun brunch spot! You order at the bar inside (great bartenders/servers)! We tried the canned mimosas but preferred ours the traditional way. The outside sitting area was fun for the kids to play while we waited for our food. Large tables and space in between them so it was easy to get around. Water stations were so nice and convenient! I went to hopstop today and when I asked the person behind the counter, which flavor of wings he recommended, he said they all have "unique" flavors and it was up to me. The guy behind the counter, who I think is the owner is very rude and gave an annoyed vibe when I asked him to recommend a wing sauce. The place was very busy. I waited 1 hour for food, and my chicken wings were raw when they came out. I live very close to hop stop, and have given them lots of chances, but this was the last and will never be back. read more

Always good to stop here for a beer when I'm in town visiting friends. Occasionally we catch live music, which is great. The patio is often filled with young families and their pups as it is a dog-friendly space. The happy hour is great and the food is fairly typical offerings. The vegan burrito is advertised as a caulifower burrito, but there were more green peppers than there was cauliflower or beans, so I'd like them to adjust that.
