Great spot for lunch takeout on Pitt campus. Roots has done a good job filling the fast casual…read moreniche with some healthy feeling, largely vegetarian options. Most bowls are rice, greens, and/or beans based with various vegetables for toppings. Heartier than a salad but healthier than Chipotle. I've gotten lunch there a few times and have always been satisfied. My favorite bowl is El Jefe, which comes with rice, kale, black beans, corn, red onion, avocado, and a protein topping (I like the miso tofu but you can also get chicken). The bowl also comes with cilantro/lime sauce, which I do not get because it's very salty. That's my one complaint about Roots - despite their healthy ingredients, their bowls can get quite saucy and salty if you go with the default options. This particular location is well-staffed, so service is usually quick, but it can get a rush of students around 12pm.

If you want to have barely decent food, then go here, but just keep in mind you could very well get harassed while you're eating and staff will do absolutely nothing about it.

I got to try their chicken finger sandwich and the laynes sauce. The chicken was well cooked and breaded well too. Not a ton of spice but still flavorful. The sauces are what really made it delicious. Both the ranch and the laynes sauce were really good. Creamy, decent portion, and the Laynes sauce had a tad of spice to it. All in all, I definitely recommend it for a quick and cheap bite. Nice chicken spot.

My friend and I are both people of color and we personally felt mistreated by this restaurant. I am…read morewary of labeling things as prejudice but I truly cannot think of any other reason our waiter treated us like this especially seeing how differently she interacted with other tables. We were served by a waiter named Cass. She was pretty rude while taking our orders but I thought I was just overthinking. We then waited for over 50 minutes for 2 burgers while some tables that were seated after us got their food first/at the same time as us. Our waiter was also checking up and chatting with other tables and never ONCE came to our table to check on us. By the time our burgers and fries got to us, they were COMPLETELY COLD. But at this point I was so hungry and tired of waiting I didn't even care to ask for a new one. I understand how hard service jobs are which is why I tried giving her the benefit of doubt but the situation just got progressively worse. As the check came, I saw that my waiter charged me separately for fries despite me getting the $12 short stack meal deal that comes with them included. She also charged me 50 cents for onions despite it being included in the 4 toppings. I politely pointed this out the fact I was still charged for fries, to which she says it's because I asked for "extra pickles." ???????? I was like why would that disqualify me from the deal......To which she said "Um did you not ask for extra pickles? I said that you can't have any modifications." She then proceeded to stare at me blankly for 7 seconds, which was extremely creepy and unsettling. I then asked for the manager who was nice and did help me remove the extra charge but overall this was a horrible experience. If you are a person of color I would not recommend coming here as there is a chance you will not feel welcomed. This is the first time I haven't left a tip in years.

The sauerkraut on the Reuben was great, but overall, both sandwiches missed the mark. They felt very heavy without delivering much actual flavor. Fries were greasy and overall looked a bit burned and not appetizing. It also took way too long to get our food, I think well over half an hour just for sandwiches. Service was friendly and nice, though the space could definitely be a bit cleaner. Glad I gave it a shot, but between the wait time and the bland food, it wasn't really worth it.

The staff was friendly and attentive, and everything came out quickly despite the restaurant being busy.
