When I lived in New Haven, I ended up at Five Guys a lot after their opening. I agree with Stephanie G's assessment, "pretty darn good." The burger-to-bun ratio can be a little tricky, but the ingredients are fresh and it always tastes good. The fires are not my favorite, but they are hand cut and certainly yummy. I have no problem recommending it without qualification. Good burgers, good fries, good prices. Was very pleased with the cleanliness of this location. Usually there are peanut shells all over the floor and the tables need a napkin wipe or two before eating, but this particular location was spotless. The staff was super friendly as always in a Five guys. Parking lot is huge. Strange that it is located in a plaza building that it shares with other stores, but I believe this allows it to be bigger and helps with the parking. Prices and quality of the food is just as good as any other Five Guys restaurant. I definitely recommend a visit when in the area. read more

Two words- CAJUN FRIES ! If you're an Old Bay fanatic like me, then you can't live another day without eating at Five Guys. Orange is 30-45 mins from my house and damn worth the drive. Friendly service and big boxes of peanuts to munch on til your food is ready. The single burger patty and regular cajun fries are plentyy of food, my only complaint here is that they don't toast the buns which would help it stand up to the 2 inches of toppings I always request :) Free toppings so pile it on ! Raw onions or carmelized onions, pickles, jalapeno peppers, green peppers, the list goes on. Atleast 5 condiment options, I could just die here. read more

Very good burger, for a very reasonable price. If you are hungry, get the burger, which is 2 patties. little burger is only 1 patty, but is still very filling. I'm not a huge fan of the fries. I like them crispier, with less salt. But they defiantly give you enough to share between you and everyone else. read more

Burgers - small hockey pucks with the life squeezed out of them - and expensive to boot! Fries - wonderful, but it is hard to make a meal out of just fries. I went to five guys and it was delicious it was me and my son and we ordered a bacon double cheeseburger with A-1 and ketchup for me and my son had everything. We ordered the large fry and to sodas. Five Guys you have to open the door a take a big deep breathe then hold it. Nothing smells as a burger and fry place like 5 Guys. I just returned from my first visit and BOY was I was pleasantly surprised with the food and service. I told the man behind the counter it was my first time and he took me through the whole menu. GREAT value, wonderful service. I will say there's too much hype behind their cajun fries. It's old bay right? C'mon. ok maybe this will sound funny .. i am a vegetarian and this place is one of my favorites. i am giving it 5 stars based solely on the amazing quality of their french fries. i was down in orange and had to stop in home depot for some sort of hardware thing and on my way out i wanted a fountain drink and saw this place across the lot .. while ordering the drink i saw the fresh cut fries behind the counter and got an order - it was HUGE and the fries were some of the best i have had in a restaurant in connecticut. they have some veggie burger which i think is actually just all the veggie toppings cooked up on the grill which i havent yet tried .. i must go back soon!! You go in and order up front, take yourself a bucket of free salt shelled peanuts to your table and wait for them to call your number then go get your food... read more

To be honest, I've never tried a Five Guys burger because they lost to Plan B (my favorite burger spot in all of CT) in the CT Burger Contest back in May. This past weekend, I tried Five Guys and I'm not really sure why or who put these two places up against each other. They're not comparable. Two totally different types of establishments.... I'm not going to sit here and compare them in this review but I will say that Five Guys was definitely one of the best FAST FOOD burgers that I've ever had. The meat was full of flavor, the toppings were fresh and we didn't have to wait long for food. I had the "little" burger with one patty which was more than enough food and chose the toppings wisely. I found this place on yelp. It was definitely worth the extra 4 mile drive out of my way. The food was very fresh and tasty. However, either I am getting greedy or too old, the burgers were not very big. I expected bigger burgers based on the yelp reviews. Maybe due to the economic conditions they are cutting back, which I totally understand. Doesn't matter, the food was so good and the price was right. I will definitely be a fan of their place. We ordered 2 regular fries and yes we had a half bag of fries left over, but I took them home and even after the frig, they tasted great cold. So save those fries. read more

Don't get me wrong. I love Five Guys, and prior to visiting the Orange location had nothing but positive experiences. I usually go to the one at Amity but happened to be at Home Depot across from the Orange location and thought I'd have a nice little lunch. Big Mistake. The place is huge with horrible acoustics and there was loud obnoxious music playing the whole time. The girl who took my order was rather unclear about just what her job was and had a difficult time placing the order; I'm not exaggerating. After eating about half my hamburger and fries, I just couldn't take the noise and left. I will never set foot in this location again. read more

My wife and I enjoy going to Five Guys. We both order the Single Cheeseburger and add the sides. Don't forget they have fried onions and A1 Sauce! This is the one place a Regular Fry can feed 2 or more people! . The free peanuts as you wait for your food is great. I do agree with others that the tables are not cleaned on a regular basis. NY Times article a few days ago described Five Guys as a New England copy of California's In 'n Out. The burger was good - reminded me of Halo Burger from the Flint Michigan area. The atmospherics however sucked. It's located inside a cavernous, echo filled former big box retailer space. If that was not bad enough, they had music playing. After all the hype, after driving past all the new locations opening up I finally decided to go in and try out one of these burgers. It is a fast food joint so service isn't a discussion point but what is up for discussion is how terrible this place really is. My cheese burger was nasty, greasy, and quite flavorless, and that's after I added grilled onions, pickles and your standard toppings. Fries were bitter and I wish I never ordered then. We love coming to this place for a quick hamburger! It's like the In N Out hamburger joint on the East Coast, but better! I got the small hamburger with all the fixings and it tastes like the hamburgers when I was a kid. Yum yum! What can I say? This is the best location in connecticut at the moment. Their burger presentation is beautiful and the toppings and condiments are balanced perfectly. On a busy Sunday 6:30 pm I ordered from the Five Guys website for an "easy" dinner, or so I thought. The site directed my delivery order to Doordash, which I usually stay away from (because they are not Grubhub), but since the delivery time was 40 minutes and was across town I would try it. After 50 minute on line status was not picked up, and knowing that Five guys would have completed the order for the earlier time and would have been sitting, I called the restaurant to check the status of the order. I spoke to miriam the uh "manager". She put the blame on Doordash stating "unfortunately there are no Doordash drivers available" and there's no way to cancel the order, nor was there any way for them to say if the order would ever be delivered. She seemed to find it amusing when I asked what time they were open until. She said 10:00 pm everyday...but couldn't say if I would ever see my order. We called Five Guys customer service and were told they will send it along to corporate management, but he was an answering service. I am most upset with the fact that I spent the extra for delivery and a 20% tip... 20%! We went to the restaurant to pick up our delivery order...It was just picked up by the Doordash driver and now was out for delivery. miriam thanks for the call to tell me it was picked up... no call made by this "manager". Finally 2 hours exactly for the cold had arrived, bags ripped open, why not sealed?..... Horrible customer service....even more so horrible local customer service miriam, I ordered through your site not Doordash, so you guys are the one who need to do a better job. read more

Five reasons why I'll probably never go to Five Guys again ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Five Guys wants you to know that it's been making "Handcrafted Burgers & Fries since 1986." The chain (about 1,400 restaurants and annual sales approaching a billion bucks) brags that its "passion for food is shared with our fans, which is why we never compromise. Fresh ingredients, hand prepared that bring your craving to life." The restaurants' walls are covered with rave reviews. I'm a carnivore. I love burgers. I love fine fries with burgers. It was logical to assume that I'd be a happy Five Guys customer and I eagerly anticipated the chain's opening a branch near me about seven years ago. I was initially satisfied and I went a few times. The burgers were nothing special--better than fast food from Mickey Dee's or BK, but not as good as at Uno or Charlie Brown or my own kitchen or outdoor grill. When you wait for your food you can pre-stuff yourself with peanuts in-the-shell. The fries were spectacular. Even the "little" size is big. They're served overflowing in a cup inside a bag. Apparently customers are supposed to think that the cook is infatuated with them and provides extra. It's a scam, but an effective scam. The "system" and pricing are weird. A "regular-size" burger consists of two "little" patties stacked unsteadily on the same roll. A friggin' slice of cheese costs 70 cents! A "kosher-style" hot dog is not kosher, and becomes even more non-kosher if ordered with cheese or bacon. Fifteen free toppings are available--but you can't get sauerkraut on your hot dog! I realize that dogs are not the specialty, but when the menu is so limited it's not unreasonable to expect proper condiments. Even the low-brow snack bars at Sam's Club and Costco have kraut! The lack of kraut is annoying, but not a deal breaker. The grilled onions were an acceptable substitute. Here's what's not acceptable: (1) Those unlimited free peanuts are very salty. I don't know how the company gets salt into the shell, but it should STOP! When I was a kid my parents complained that I used too much salt. Then I went to college and saw classmates using much more salt than I did. At one restaurant I even saw a customer salting spare ribs. Yuck. My wife uses no salt and there are several restaurants she refuses to patronize because she finds the food too salty. I'm not an anti-salt crusader, but the Five Guys nuts are not tasty and certainly not healthy. (2) When my local Five Guys branch opened I could get a medium-rare burger, which is what I prefer. After a while the company restricted my choice of done-ness to either well-done or no burger at all. I'm not a weirdo who expects beef to still be breathing, but I do think that meat should have some juice. Initially the store staff lied about it being illegal to serve burgers that were not well-done. I naively believed them and switched to 5G hot dogs. I later discovered that other restaurants--both chains and independents--did offer pink meat. Craving fries and hopeful of a revised policy I went to the Guys yesterday. The cashier told me that the restaurant "can't" make burgers that are not well-done. "Can't" implies a physical disability. It doesn't take a special talent or tool to not incinerate meat. (3) The legendary fries looked spectacular and the portion was huge. Sadly, they were over-salted. As with the nuts, the fries are not tasty and certainly not healthy. (4) The hot dog bun quickly fell apart. Fast-casual food does not have to be sloppy. The dog was too salty--of course! Salt should be an option, dammit. (5) My tab for a dog, fries and a "regular" soda was close to eleven bucks. That's absolutely ridiculous! I might expect a rip-off price like that in a sports stadium, but not in an ordinary suburban shopping center where the main attraction is Home Depot, not Nordstrom. I'm not a health nut. I try to "eat healthy" just enough to stay alive and comfortable. I use salt but--I want to decide how much salt to use. Salt should not be pre-installed. It should be an option, like ketchup. read more

The burgers are really good and they always give you a lot of extra fries, which is one of those things that probably doesn't cost them very much, but when there's a choice between them and some others, I'll choose to go there.
