I went to the North Haven location and had a great experience, so I was excited to see one closer to home. That didn't last long. They didn't have enough white rice for the two burrito bowls I ordered, so the employee scraped whatever was left and it tasted like it had been sitting there forever. The fajita veggies had hard, old pieces of onion, and when I asked for bacon bits (which I've gotten at the other location & is available on the app), they had no idea what I was talking about. Checking out was another issue they didn't know how to handle the rewards system, and the cashier exit out the tip button before I even had a chance to add anything myself. Bubbakoo's is another fast-casual restaurant that has been popping up locations around Connecticut by storm. I have been intrigued by the not-so-typical burritos, tacos, quesadillas, loaded curly fries, and bowls. They also have create-your-own options too. They have "Killer Burritos" that take Mexican-fusion to a next level like the General Tso's Crispy Chicken, Gochujang Crispy Chicken, and Nashville Hot Crispy Chicken burritos. Don't the sound of these make you hungry? We stopped for lunch on a rainy Saturday while we were in the area doing some shopping. They weren't busy and the food was made fresh and fast. The line was similar to a Chipotle/Moe's, where your meal is made in front of you with full view of the kitchen (grill, fryer, etc.) I ordered the Sweet Chili Pineapple Shrimp Burrito and my husband ordered the Silly Philly Burrito. The staff threw down the proteins of our burritos on the grill and continued to assemble. We opted in making our meals combos, adding drinks and chips with salsa or curly fries. We got one of each. My burrito was great. It had a sweet and tangy sauce, and pineapple. It was super stuffed with a lot of shrimp. My husband enjoyed his burrito, it had a lot of philly meat, peppers, and onions. He said it could have used more cheese and the onions were a smidge undercooked (luckily he loves onions). The burritos were very filling as we both couldn't eat them in its entirety in one sitting. I enjoyed the curly fries and the chips were good. I was surprised by the salsa as I was expecting the usual, basic, watered down salsa. Not here, I could taste Bubbakoo's effort--it was spicy with a little bit of sweetness (we got the Hot Salsa). Bubbakoo's has something going here and I plan to eat my way around the menu in the future. It was a little pricy since the two combos were about $40, but the food was made fresh and they didn't skimp on the meat and shrimp. read more

It's Taco Tuesday but I opted for nachos; and so glad I did! I ordered a burrito bowl from this restaurant a while ago and it was good. Today, I wanted something in that family so I ordered nachos. They offered battered cauliflower in place of meat, and there are several sauces to choose from if you want. I selected the Nashville hot. You also have the option to add extra meat (or a meat substitute). They offer white and brown rice, black beans or pinto beans I believe, several toppings including standard nacho cheese sauce or white queso. The portion is big and I have left overs. After seeing tons of Facebook ads for this place, I was so excited to finally try it. Sadly, it didn't taste as good as it looked in the ads. The portions were large, which was a plus, but the flavor and execution fell short. The blue cheese that came with the cauliflower was strange and runny, the meat was underseasoned, the queso lacked flavor, and the huge pieces of unchopped lettuce on my nachos was an odd choice. This Tex Mex chain is experiencing rapid growth. It's younger than others I eat at (founded in 2008) but I've been here a few times and I can easily see why it's becoming so popular. The location I went to popped up a couple of years ago. It's always very clean and the staff is always courteous. My vegan bowl was very good. You can tell that the ingredients are fresh and clean from the first bite. As far as my bowl goes, the rice, beans, pico and onions were all of average flavor, but what elevates this dish is the guac and fried cauliflower. Their guac is very well seasoned and they give you a generous portion. The fried cauliflower sounds random but it makes this dish much more delicious. It's not greasy, it's lightly crispy and has just enough seasoning to make it a welcome addition to the bowl. Unorthodox flavors and toppings like this are how this chain tries to differentiate itself from the competition. I keep my bowl traditional except for the cauliflower, but if you're a fan of fusing different flavor profiles together, you'll love this place. For instance, you can get chicken seasoned with General Tao's sauce while still using other Tex Mex ingredients. I myself have never done this, but it's still very intriguing. This place is definitely up there with the best Tex Mex chains around. I highly recommend that you give it a shot! read more

Had lunch on a Saturday around 1pm. Staff was nice and the place was clean I dined in. I had shredded chicken burrito and man do they fill it! More than Chipotle and Moes (I'm a huge Moes fan). I was going to order chips but glad I didn't since the burrito was so filling. They have more ingredients to choose from than Chipotle and a better price. I think I still like Moes more since the burritos come with chips and they have a great salsa bar...no extra charge and a better soda machine too BUT Moes is not in my area so I will definitely be back to Buckaroos. Honestly I came here because I was next door, restaurant looked clean but there was no trash bag in the trash to put the trash in so it was piling on top. The food was alright but my husband asked for a sandwich that wasn't spicy at all. So my husband got the sandwich and repeated again he didn't want no spicy on it the guy said it's not spicy and that it's "mild" so we got our food and sat down. My husband took a bite to find out it was spicy and asked for another sandwich due to the spicy. My husband speaks Spanish as well but I guess they didn't know that and they were talking a lot of crap about him not being able to handle the spice. I've only been here once, so my opinion might change. I like this place. The portions are huge, seemingly a 1/3 increase compared to Chipotle. There are more entree options here too. Food is quick, following the chipotle model. The fried cauliflower took less than five minutes, I barely had to wait. The food tastes good. The vegetables and sauces carry the dishes I got, but neither I nor the person I was with got meat, so we can't speak on that. The corn and salsas were hard to taste over anything else, but idk if that's on me choosing to focus on certain elements over the other or a lack of strong flavor, but veg is always appreciated. Now, the winners for me where the chiwawa and the buffalo cauliflower. The chiwawa is a split fried ball of rice and cheese. I loved it. I'm a fan of fried rice, but croquette-style is pretty rare. There is not much to the dish, it's mild in flavor, slightly creamy and toasty, but I kept going back to that part of the entire meal. I topped with queso and beans, it was sooo good. I've had decent buffalo-style foods over the years, many good, but none that taste the way I used to prefer buffalo wings. That's a popular flavor, but I still struggle to find a dish to meet my vegetarian desires. The buffalo cauliflower doesn't mimic the feel of chicken, and I didn't expect it to. I'll go to Mott St. NYC for that. But these florets had the flavor I've wanted; Mildly hot, a little thick but still runny, and really vinegary. I missed vinegary hot wing sauce. Only local cheap places make wings like that, and none of those places do vegetarian options. I'm happy I got this alternative, especially around other vegetarian-friendly food places and a few Indian supermarkets. I'm more likely to hope here when I'm running chores or just want a snack to go with my Saray baked goods. Give this place a try. It's worth a visit, if only for the portions and fried foods. read more

Affordable, food is good but I frequent here at least twice a week due to people at work wanting something close by. Order inside and almost every time the food is ice cold. Not even the cheese gets melty on the food that's how cold it is. I started getting quesadilla which has been very good seeing as they have to heat it up. read more
