We tried this cute little restaurant yesterday afternoon for lunch. It's in a house with cute outdoor seating. We were seated outside quickly and our server brought out chips and salsa (ramekin size). They only offered bottled drinks or water, no iced tea or alcohol. We decided on just water. I chose the steak fajitas with lettuce added, and Hubby ordered the chicken enchiladas with verde (green) sauce. The tacos are three to a plate on corn tortillas. They come with onions, radish and cilantro. The enchiladas are served in a bowl with rice and beans (black). Both dishes were amazing in flavor. Red and green sauces are brought with the meals. Both are great. The restaurant is immaculate inside as is the bathroom. The only negative is it took forever to get a check and to go containers lol. Otherwise, five stars. read more

I often get the plato de pollo asado/carnitas, meat's juicy, pico has the perfect amount of lime flavor, great salsas, no notes about anything. Brought in dinner from here for my aunts bday Saturday night. The guacamole was good but could have used a little more flavor. I got a chicken quesadilla which was absolutely huge. Stunned I have never reviewed this place. Ay Guey is one of life's food gifts to us. It's a small hole in the wall place, many places have been in and out of this location but it's here to stay. They have counter seating, a cute patio out front with some tables and about 3-4 tables inside, place is very clean. Service is always timely, they have a bunch of different salsas/hot sauce to try with your meals, love it. I usually get a chicken or steak burrito, best bang for your buck. It's always a huge burrito filled with rice, beans, juicy meat and avocado, always leave full. My wife and I also love their nachos, come out on a huge tray, no shortages of portions here. She also enjoys the chicken quesadilla, she's picky about them but loves them from here, Ay Guey is a must try, one of the states best offerings in my opinion. read more

Coworkers were looking for a lunch spot and I wanted Mexican so found this place. Fit the bill perfectly. Everyone raved about their food. The huaraches are like a tamale pizza and excellent. This place gets truly lost in the sauce in terms of location but is an absolute standout for true Mexican food made with quality ingredients and freshness. They start you off with homemade chubky salsa and these bity cheerio bites which are little hard to eat with salsa... We always ask for their chips which are homemade and incredible. Their menu isn't big, but it offers a great variety from typical dishes to specialties. They have a Mexican pizza which is incredible, and they're nachos are by far. The best nachos I have ever had in terms of layering, every nacho is covered with something, the chorizo nacho is probably the best tasting nacho they offer. The blend of spices and sausage and the cheese they use and beans are all well entwined. They all also offer a fresh made juice, not typical to what you see in places, such as honeydew, melon, and I have to say quite tasty and refreshing. As for dessert, this place also hits it out of the park... they prepare a Tres leches cake weekly, and their tiramisu dress leches cake was so good and creamy, it was the perfect way to end a delicious meal. Do not bypass this little Mexican delicacy based on its look and Location in a residential area... It will surprise you and may very well become one of your favorite places! Whatever you do, try those chorizo nachos, I promise you you won't regret it, and their hot sauce and salsa are top-notch. read more

How I do find new-to-me restaurants? Many times, I drive 45 minutes from home, and Yelp Search "things to eat" for the "current location". That's how I learned about 5 Star elevated Mexican casual Ay Guey ("AG") AG is in a white house-type structure a bit north of the Stratford plaza with the Home Depot. Although AG is not a fancy restaurant, the atmosphere is a selling point. Lots of natural light and big windows. Cool art and decor. Modern. Well-designed. Open kitchen. Many people got takeout, but I ate there and would love to do so again. Service was very helpful and friendly. AG has tacos, quesadillas, plates, bowls, etc. I ordered a Carne Asada plate, which came with slices of Carne Asada, smooth black beans, rice, avocado, a mild soft white cheese, pico and three fresh tortillas. I enjoyed the complimentary salsa roja and chicharon circles so much, that I asked for salsa with my meal as well. My server leveled up and brought fresh salsa verde and roja in two mugs, housed in a cool little carrying case. Everything about this plate was very good. The steak was lean and tasty. The puréed black beans had a slightly different flavor that I couldn't place, but I liked it. The tortillas were great. The long cheese piece seemed grilled. The rice was good. The avocado was artfully sliced. I loved the salsas. So flavorful and they tied everything together. While I was taking pictures after I ordered, I learned that Yelp had declared that AG had the best Burritos in CT for '22. I immediately regretted not ordering a burrito, but I did what I do. I problem-solved. Burrito to go! I ordered an Al Pastor for myself and a Veggie for my wife. I re-heated my burrito for dinner. This obviously isn't the best way to judge food, but it was full of great ingredients like meaty pork, pineapple, avocado, onions, cheese, etc. It had rice, but it didn't feel like unnecessary filler. Just a bit of complimentary rice. It was very good, and would have been great if I ate it at the restaurant. I predict that Ay Guey will find its way onto a Yelp Top Places to Eat in CT list in the near future. No inside knowledge. Just reading the tea leaves. Five Stars read more

This place is ridiculously good. I read some reviews prior to going but as we know sometimes places don't live up to the hype. This place does. Nestled in a random neighborhood, you kind of think you are going to abuelitas house. The inside however, is pretty modern and clean. They also have a small outdoor seating area to eat (not sure if there is table service or not). The service here is phenomenal. They bring you a little snack to nibble on (in the blue cup, forgot the name) while you wait for your meal. I ordered the guacamole and chicken burrito. Both were amazing. The chicken burrito is huge. Definitely enough to share or for leftovers. The guacamole is so delicious. I ordered it spicy (wasn't really), it came out and was super fresh. I noticed this Mexican restaurant when I drove by the other day. So I decided to take the opportunity and try it out today as I was in the neighborhood. There is a parking spot for about 3-4 cars on the side of the building. The restaurant looks nice, and clean, with several table to dine in. We decided to try out the burritos. I orders a skirt steak burrito, and asked if they could make me a steak-shrimp burrito. It could be done, but it would add to the price, which was fine with me. After I paid for my order, I was told that they had no shrimp, but could do extra steak, or add chicken. I agreed on the extra steak. After 10-15 minutes our order was ready to go. The bag was heaven and warm, and you could tell those were some solid burritos. At home I unwrapped my burrito by removing the foil and another layer of paper. The burrito was richly filled and for sure could feed 2 or enjoyed by oneself. Although the burrito was good, I was disappointed though, it didn't hit the spot flavor wise. Vegetarian is okay however I appreciate the vegetarian option. Got a burrito, can't complain but I just don't really like carrots and or broccoli in my burritos becuase it doesn't seem authentic in my head. The restaurant is really cute and the service is fast.
