Not sure what to say about this place. I expected a lot more. We ordered tacos, cemita, nacho fries and esquite. We moved to Shelton not so long ago from Westchester and we thought we finally found a good authentic Mexican restaurant. Well haven't found one yet. Might as well open one up myself. Anyways The esquite was gross, my husband couldn't eat the al pastor tacos of how salty they were and ohh we got no sauce to go with it. I tasted them and I didn't love them either. The cemita was ok and the nacho fries I don't want to comment. Personally if you want authentic Mexican food this is not the place. If you want regular Spanish food it's fine I guess. read more

Went here for takeout. I had 2 different quesadillas, tinga and chicken. Both were quite good although I did get a chicken bone in the tinga. Staff is cordial, parking is a bit tricky. Smaller place with like 4 tables inside. Prices are OK. read more

Ordered take out tonight, and unfortunately, it was not too good. I did love that they surprised us with a little Valentines Day treat, which was super sweet. I was up for some tacos while I was doing my errands so I decided to come here while I was in the area. Ell Gallo Dorado's is close to my home and I've only been here once before. I ordered Steak Tacos and decided to order in. The steak in the taco was very tender and flavorful. All the ingredients in the taco came all together and was nicely made. What can I say!!! My boyfriend was living in Shelton and he noticed the amount of foot traffic this place got whenever he passed by it and decided he had to try it. I have tried many tacos around ct and I must say that these are some of my favorite. They are a great value and the al pastor was some of the best around. The restaurant is also very clean and well kept, and the kitchen is in plain sight which is always a plus. They also had a great drink selection. Forget all those trendy taco joints in Shelton that are owned by Americans. When you want real Mexican food you go where the owners are Mexican, am I right! This new Shelton location has 5 tables and each seats 4 people, so not huge but big enough. See pics of menu that I posted, everything is delicious, from the homemade nacho chips and guacamole to the hot sauces and the birra tacos. The steak in the burrito was tender and juicy. The distribution of ingredients was PERFECT. Each ingredient was spread to the last bite of both halves. The salt/fat/moisture levels were all good, but the flavor didn't pop. With the addition of the salsas it was quite good. The salsa is not salty, it just adds flavor which is how it should be. Given the lack of good Mexican food in the area and the reasonable price this restaurant gets 5/5. In other areas with more Mexican establishments (like California) this would get 4/5. We moved from Monroe to Shelton and were missing the food from El Gallo Dorado and made the drive on more than one occasion. We were beyond thrilled when we saw they would be opening in Shelton and thankfully the food is exactly the same as the Monroe location. It is consistently prepared and packs a ton of flavor. I really loved coming here up until the last few months.. the food is always pretty good no complaints there however I won't be coming here anymore because I don't feel like giving my hard earned money to someone that is so blatantly rude & outright disrespectful. Her name is Dulce & she ALWAYS (I mean every single time I've dealt with her) is a straight up *****. That's the ONLY word that can be used to describe her. I called today legitimately 2 minutes (5:54 &5:56) after placing my order because I forgot to ask to put the sauce on the side. (I'm pregnant & although I really like the sauce it's just too much for me lately unfortunately) anyway she answers the phone miserable as usual & I apologize for the inconvenience & explain why I'm calling. She SNAPS at me & says 'the chicken quesadilla doesn't come with any sauce what are you talking about?' I was taken aback but I kept my cool & said umm well I always get the same thing & it comes with this spicy southwest sauce I believe it's called I'll pay extra just please put it to the side. She SIGHS super loud & says 'idk if I can do that I have to ask my manager' I say I'm sure you can easily modify the order simply by telling your kitchen staff I've been in there & seen staff do just that for other customers. Her' like I SAID I HAVE to ask my manager & they're not in front of me right now so you can call back in 5 minutes I'm busy w/customers' Me oh ok i understand that I'm driving & I don't mind holding however I'm sure the order will be made already & I just want to make sure that doesn't happen but I'm on my way there so I guess(then she rudely interrupted me)her 'idk what to tell you it don't have sauce on it I don't have time for this' & hangs up in my face. Come to find out she was in the bathroom when she answered the phone & tells me this song & dance about someone calling out. I say to her 'News flash no one cares. I work in a very busy bar & customers don't want to hear that it's not their problem it's yours. Period. I understand that people are rude & annoying but you made the situation into a whole issue for no reason. A simple "yes I'll put sauce on the side but it may be an extra charge" also what possessed you to think it would be a good idea to tell a paying customer in a RESTAURANT that you were in the bathroom on the phone??Im sure you washed your hands but did you wipe down the phone??' She also then made a rude comment about me in Spanish. Her girl just a little advice don't be so quick to judge a book by it's cover I may not LOOK Spanish but sweetie I'm half Puerto Rican. Also don't assume 'white girls' don't understand you you know what you said. Shame on you. And shame on the 'manager' who didn't speak any English & seemed to think it was hilarious. Not sure how a manager doesn't understand/speak English in a town like Shelton where there are people of ALL nationalities here. This is an ongoing theme with this girl 2 weeks prior she accused me of 'lying' when I said I didn't get my juice which Ive gotten EVERY SINGLE TIME I go there but I was so aggravated with her nasty attitude I didn't bother ordering it. By the way : my quesadilla was so DRENCHED in sauce it was soggy & I couldn't even eat it & my fiancés burrito was 'the worst he's ever had since going there' according to him. Where is the other girl that's ALWAYS extremely extremely sweet & friendly?? We were going there at least 2xs a week but slowed down because of nasty attitude; lately it's been every other week now we're not going back. After reading the first review of this place I did not realize that this was a part of the Mexican food in Monroe with all the great reviews (I actually thought it was a chicken place due to the logo outside).. Picked up some delicious burritos and tacos and everything was authentic and fresh...burritos had a nice grilled taste ...not mushy and soft like how some others are made. El Pastor tacos were also very good. Meat had the right amount of seasoning and generous toppings. All in all, a very good experience and definitely will go back for more. read more
