So many, that I wanted to try them all. I sampled the Butter Beer, Nutella, and Lavender & Fig. They were all delicious. I ended up getting a scoop of Nutella and a scoop of Lavender. The ice cream was a near perfect consistency. Cold enough to eat and soft enough to easily scoop. It is definitely a popular spot as there was always a line during my experience here. Recently came to get some ice cream here for the first time one evening. There was a line despite it being during the week but it moved quickly. The place is very cute and quaint and the girls working were efficient and friendly and kept the line moving. I decided on a scoop of Mad Mollye which was Belgium chocolate with cinnamon and Oreos. I am a sucker for chocolate and cinnamon. I also got some chocolate chips on mine. My fiancé did a scoop of mint chocolate chips on a sugar cone but the ice cream was so runny they had to put it in a cup with cone on top. I liked my ice cream. Great flavor! My fiancé was super bummed about his. Not sure we would come back together as his experience not great, but I would come back to try another flavor. read more

A Food Blogger I know from Southern CT recently declared Walnut Beach Ice Cream the best ice cream in CT. I was familiar with WB at that time, and I had heard good things, but I had not previously heard somebody call WB a best in CT contender. Since so many of the great CT ice cream spots originate in the Upper 2/3 of CT, I questioned whether the Blogger had been to enough of the top places to declare a best. Nonetheless, I made a mental note to visit when I was in Milford. That day has now come, and I can say, even after having eaten at most of the best loved CT ice shops, Walnut Beach Creamery belongs in the discussion for best ice cream in CT. I went with a large ice cream order, which gets you 4 scoops of different ice cream for a bit over $6. My 4 flavors were S'mores, Salty Dog, Grapenuts and Berry Good. The texture was great. Very smooth and velvety. I got some stretch as I spooned some bites. And for an ice cream with great texture, the flavors really popped too. It's rare to get both ideal texture and flavor. The chocolate base in the Salty Dog was rich. It also had good salted caramel flavor. The S'mores had a graham base, chocolate pieces and mini marshmallows that were tender. The marshmallows almost seemed room temperature, which doesn't seem possible. Berry Good had fresh berry flavor and huge, mutant, dark chocolate chunks. Grapenuts had a honey vanilla base and butterscotch flavor. I was very impressed with all four flavors. The shop was cute and near the beach. Service was friendly and efficient. As someone who LOVES ice cream, I was in heaven with the flavor I chose, Salted Dog. This was a rich chocolate ice cream with salted caramel pieces in it. Seriously creamy, decadently thick, and positively delicious. The teenagers working were very helpful and dedicated to helping each customer. The spoons seem a little too flat to really scoop the ice cream out of the bowl, but the cones also looked delicious. I may have to try a cone next time. Walnut Beach Creamery is a gourmet creamery that opened in Milford, Connecticut in 2007. It was founded by former CNN producer Susan Patrick. After Patrick's fourth and youngest child started kindergarten, she decided that she wanted to work again, but not back to the grind of a newsroom. Instead the old Walnut Beach Post Office went on the market and Patrick jumped at the chance to purchase it with the intention of turning it into an ice cream shop. She also bought an ice cream maker and began experimenting with a menu of different flavors. Today the creamery is the only one in Milford to offer home-made ice cream, with flavors featuring local honey and fresh Milford farm ingredients. In addition to creating delicious handmade ice cream, Patrick is also credited for the Walnut Beach neighborhood's renaissance into Milford's art district. My family and I have been visiting Walnut Beach Creamery for years. The Walnut Beach neighborhood is a lovely arts district that we enjoy visiting for various events, and it's namesake beach is our favorite beach to visit in the summertime. A visit to Walnut Beach in the summertime is incomplete without a stop at the creamery. We recently visited the ice cream shop on July 31st. This date is the birthday of the famous literary character Harry Potter. The creamery encouraged customers to dress in costume, there was a trivia contest, and there were also special themed Harry Potter flavors created for the event. My wife ordered "Butterbeer" (Butterscotch Schnapps ice cream with butterscotch candies), our son had "Ravenclaw Cookie Monster" (Blue vanilla ice cream with chocolate sandwich cookies), and I had "Hufflepuff Lemon Drop" (Lemon ice cream with Lemon Drop candies). Yelp to the rescue last night! The hubs and I had an Ice cream craving while down along the shore last night and we came across Walnut Beach Creamery last night after a quick Yelp search. We were not the only ones as even when we arrived at 8pm they were busy busy busy. You can either order outside through their take out window or head in. I also loved that they allow taste samples with real spoons! So many unique flavors and I loved that they have a contest every year to let their employees create a new flavor. I ended up getting the 2921 winner Purple Rain which was a yam based ice cream with some fun mix ins. It was so hot that it was a quick gulp down before it melted. Luckily we were able to walk to the beach and enjoy the remaining bites of ice cream. Came here a few days ago - really nice hole in wall spot. The girl behind the counter who took our order was super sweet. She let us sample, a little too many flavors while having a smile on her face the whole time. Unfortunately didn't take a picture, but I ended up getting one scoop of the holi cannoli and one scoop of a flavor with chai and graham crackers (forgot what it was called) with some bittersweet hot fudge on top. I just don't think they are staffed well enough, the line moves so slow but because they only have two girls scooping ice cream on a busy summer day! They were out of many flavors at 4pm and they're open late. I had to keep changing what I wanted because they didn't have it. I wish they had help or something because even a short line moves slow.
