This has to be the slowest burger place in all of Southern California. Literally over 10min for a kids burger!!!

Had my first 5 Guys Burger, Awesome. Now it wasn't the BEST burger I have ever had, but I didn't pay $20.00 for it either. In the Class of Low Cost Burger (maybe just a spot above low cost) it is the best burger. It is fresh, the Cajun fries are awesome, and the selection of toppings is spectacular. The staff was friendly, and service was fast (arrived at peak lunch time). The only negative I could say is that they wrap the burger in foil, which seems to make the product "sweat" and got a little soggy. No worries, I ate it too fast. All in all great!! read more

Words cannot begin to express my disappointment with Five Guys...but I'm going to try my best. To begin, I love a good burger. There's nothing like biting into a fresh, juicy, tasty, well-constructed burger. Add some cheese to the mixture and I'm in like Flynt. However, this is my THIRD time sampling Five Guys and it has been consistently over/under. Huh? Let me break it down for you: Over-hyped and Over-rated. Yes, President Obama enjoys Five Guys. So do many people (mainly on the East coast). The Zagat survey rates this place highly as well. So? So what?! What it boils down to is personal preference and this person simply doesn't prefer Five Guys. All the "best burger" ratings in the world couldn't convince me to like something that just isn't enjoyable. With all the hype surrounding this place, you would expect a burger that blows your mind, makes all other burgers in the world obsolete, and convinces you to pillage and plunder villages for a small taste of such a wondrous burger. Five Guys does not blow my mind. Not in the least. Thus, extremely OVERrated. Under-seasoned and Underwhelming. Each and every Five Guys burger I've eaten has been completely under-seasoned. If anything, every Five Guys burger I've tasted has been bland. This brings up another interesting point. Sure, a burger with mayo, lettuce, pickles, tomatoes, grilled onions, grilled mushrooms, ketchup, and mustard is going to taste pretty good. Adding relish, jalapenos, and A-1, BBQ, or hot sauce and you're good to go. You've got a lot of bases covered with all that extra stuff (sweet, salty, sour). BUT, if a burger is as good as many are claiming, shouldn't it taste just as good without all these toppings? Five Guys, I have tried your basic hamburger with lettuce, tomato, and onions and it is, well, disappointing. It simply doesn't stand on its own as a good burger. Just like with all your testimonials and awards, all the toppings in the world can't fool me into liking your burger. I've said it before and I'll say it again - if you simply toasted your buns, you'd have a much better burger. A just-out-of-the-bag bun is dry, mealy, and falls apart easily. Toasting it softens it up and makes it more pliable, allowing it to withstand your kung-fu grip and shark-like teeth gnashing. Every Five Guys burger I've eaten has fallen apart about halfway through and disintegrated into a pile of burger guts in its foil wrapping. I want to enjoy my burger, not watch it fall to pieces as I eat it. Quick solution: work on your presentation. Wrap your burgers in some paper (like In-N-Out, The Habit, and even Carl's Jr.) The foil is just not cutting it for me. Most of the workers mangle the burgers while wrapping them, smashing them in the process. Also, hand-formed burgers are nice and all, but they look like my three year-old made them. Take some pride in your burger, please? Now, many people argue that the In-N-Out and Five Guys can't be compared. You know what, people? They both make burgers. Hence, one CAN compare burgers with burgers. It's not rocket science, y'all. If Five Guys made a decent burger, I'd give them another chance. Maybe. I have only eaten at a five guys once before a couple of years ago and I went yesterday hoping for a great burger. I was so disappointed. I ordered a single "small" bacon cheeseburger with grilled onions and grilled mushrooms. The onions were only grilled to the point they were soft but not carmelized. The mushrooms were canned. things change when you are married... i am asked to not invest in shoes anymore until we get bigger shoe shelves. maybe the hubby will get me some for our anniversary. the hubby is banned from sites such as amazon, best buy and newegg. he's reminded that if i see one more fed-ex or ups box, i'll go ballistic on him. i think he has changed the shipping address to his work now. we make serious sacrifices at times. the hubby is asked to wait in line with me for food trucks that are over-hyped and overpriced. i am begged to accompany him to restaurants which i have no desire to step a foot in. five guys burgers & fries was one of them. all the comparisons, dissections and analysis have been done on this casual burger place. this is becoming the biggest franchise expansion since yogurtland. like pinkberry vs yogurtland, the line is clearly divided between the fans of in-n-out and five guys. i am clearly going to be on the in-n-out side. even from the look of the burger, five guys' is not all that appealing. it looks sloppy and messy (call it homemade, if you want to beautify it). freedom to choose toppings and sauces sound awesome at first, but that customization ultimately takes blame away from the restaurant (hey, you are the dumb*ss for choosing that hot sauce and tomato). fries are over cooked and over seasoned, maybe to compensate for the blandness of their burgers. i am not sure which five guys came up with this concept; let's copy in-n-out's colors and let's copy fuddruckers' build your own burgers. even the free peanuts thing is not original. hmmm...maybe they only needed four guys, but at least one woman's brain to come up with something more creative and tasty! read more

I don't really like giving bad reviews but I got a veggie sandwich here and it was really bad. It was all soggy and the bread was stale and falling apart. I literally had to get a fork and eat it because it became a mess. It didn't taste very good at all. The staff was nice and the fries were good, but other than that I wasn't impressed. I don't know what to say about Five Guys. That is because prior to being first introduced to Five Guys while living on the East Coast, the notion that its food was not good and incredibly "greasy" was perpetually hammered into my head. There are a few possibilities that I didn't enjoy my first experience at Five Guys when on the East Coast; they could be one or more of the following: 1. I ordered a burger with every topping on it; 2. They make the burgers better in California; 3. My preference has changed; 4. The opinions of others claiming the food as not good and greasy." Nonetheless, I've learned that the Five Guys burger doesn't taste good with every topping; rather, I'd prefer to have only a select few (extra cheese, bacon, extra onions, tomatoes, jalapenos, pickles, extra grilled mushrooms). With regard to the hot dogs, I think they're delicious; but I'd stick to the extra cheese, bacon, ketchup, mustard, extra onions, relish, and nothing else. And finally, the Cajon fries are amazing... when they're freshly cooked that is. However, when they become cold they taste awful. The issue of cold fries can be mitigated by (obviously) eating the fries first. Nonetheless, the good thing is that if you order online, they wait for you to arrive before they add the fries to your grease-stained bag. I suspect that as Five Guys begins to open more locations in California, that it will put more pressure on In-N-Out -- and more people may perhaps claim Five Guys as superior to In-N-Out. To me, In-N-Out still has a slight edge on Five Guys; but the preference is becoming lesser (namely due to the frustration that In-N-Out can't get the extra toasted bun request correct!). I liked it, I really liked it. Ordered a small burger for me, with everything plus hot sauce & jalapenos. Cooked perfectly well, nice and juicy, although they claim it's a small, was a good size for this girl. For hubby ordered the small bacon burger, with everything as well, plus BBQ sauce. Ordered the infamous Cajun fries, yum yum. The seasoning was pretty awesome, and the fries were perfectly crisped to my liking. I should preface this by saying that I absolutely love Five Guys. I don't eat them all the time but they're pretty standard across the board from location to location. However this location sucks. The service is usually slow but this most recent visit we called in a phone order that they said would be ready in 7 to 10 minutes. Yet, 15 minutes later, when I showed up they hadn't even put our order in and offered absolutely no consolation to fix it. Super unprofessional. I encountered 5 Guys before they came to California, when I was living in North Carolina. When they arrived, I wasn't a fan. Being a proud Californian, I couldn't imagine anything better than In-N-Out. Well, now that I'm back in California, I have to admit that 5 Guys' fries are definitely better. They're also fresh cut but thick and saturated with salt. I made the mistake of eating them in my car and I had salt all over me! This was my first visit to Five Guys. I'm a vegetarian so I have limited options anywhere I go. I was surprised to see they actually serve a couple of vegetarian things. They have a Grilled Cheese sandwich and a veggie sandwich. I decided to try their Veggie Sandwich. I got the sandwich with all my favorite veggies. Five Guys has been said to be comparable to In-N-Out. The both go for the same 'classic' style, red and white interior, and a small, basic menu. Meh I think not. I'd much rather prefer In-N-Out over Five Guys. Basically you pick a hamburger or cheeseburger and then choose the toppings you would like on it. I went with my parents and they ordered a 2 hamburgers + toppings and a hot dog + toppings. I ordered their Little Cheeseburger with ketchup and grilled onions and we also got a large cup of their fries. The burgers are pretty awful, IMO. The bun is way too soft and the meat was way too mushy for my taste. Basically..it was all just a big ball of oily mushiness. I also thought their grilled onions weren't very caramelized like In-N-Out's. They were just soft and tasteless. The burger's flavor was just OK, too. Definitely think In-N-Out's burgers are just overall better. However, I really like their fries. I actually like their fries better than In-N-Out's! They really remind me of The Great Steak and Potato Company's fries (still have the skin on them). My dad had the hot dog and told me that it was just meh. He claims Costco's hot dogs taste better - which is crazy since Costco has such a sweet deal for their hot dogs: 1 hot dog comes with a drink for only like $2. To sum it all up, I didn't like their burgers, but the fries are definitely tasty. Still, it's not worth the drive over there. Tips/FYI's: - Large cup of fries are big enough to share between 3 people. - VERY loud both inside and outside. Didn't really like that. - They have regular burgers and little burgers. Totally not worth the hype! Long wait, overpriced, and not even a mediocre burger. I still have a stomachache. The fries were not good at all, but to be fair, I don't like the thick steak fries anyway. The patty was lost in the huge, soggy bun under all the toppings; for a second I thought it was my sister's veggie burger. (Also, if you do decide to get a veggie burger, you have to specify EVERY item you want on it. If you ask for the cheese veggie menu item and don't say all the toppings you want on it, be prepared to get a melted piece of Velveeta slapped between the buns). The claims of the best burger in town are very inaccurate in my opinion; it tasted like a cheap, drive-thru burger that I'd only eat if I were stranded and starving in the middle of nowhere on a road trip and the next food stop wasn't for 200 miles. Okay so you think you are going to be the new guy on the block....not happening....If you are going to imitate some one else's idea you need to come bigger and be more correct. Key word is is duplicate....People Fatburger was here first. Their burgers are the real deal and tasty and as close to homemade as one can get. Five guys stop opening new locations....you have already over built. Leave what Fatburger started alone. Your menu is weak or should I saw non descriptive. Not enough detail as to how it works. Came back again to get the burger this time. Again the line is out the door!! So we decided to call in our orders! Little cheeseburger w/lettuce, tomatoe, pickles, jalepenos, & grilled mushrooms!! YUM!!! And of course the cajun fries. I do need to remember next time to ask for more spice. They haven't quite got it down as good. :P My burger was soo high, I couldn't even bite into it. Ok my price is the 1st thing that comes to mind when thinking about this place! I spent $8.15 for a cheeseburger and sm/reg fries! i didn't even get a drink. it woulda been about 11 bucks if i did! after you get past the slew of "free" ingredients you're left with a bland piece of meat and grease soaked bread. the cheese has some good flavor nice a strong but can't makeup for overall lack of flavor. $5 for a burger is kinda expensive considering the size ( I thought i woulda been huge). I'd rather go to Red Robin and get a burger way better for pretty much the same price! some cheaper! i think the high cost of food is to make up for the cost of the "free" ingredients. i coulda got 2 meals at In & Out! come on! the cajun fries are good but can be overwhelming halfway through them. This was our first visit to Five Guys and after hearing all the hype, we were both very disappointed - let me clear up, the staff is great - the staff is the reason for the 2 stars. They were very helpful and even helped us out when they knew it was our first time. My biggest issue is I asked for my burger to be lettuce wrapped. There's not much flexibility with the bun - a plain boring white bun - so I just wanted it wrapped in lettuce. My request was shot down. Entirely. Not because they couldn't, but because "We don't want to be like In and Out" Excuse me? In and Out did not coin the lettuce wrapped burger. This is EVERYWHERE. To deny a guest request because you don't want to appear similar to your competitor is absurd. If you want people to want the bun on their burger, make it taste good - not overpower the burger. Give options. In and Out doesn't have wheat buns - try that on for size. Also... putting 1/4 of an oz of hot sauce in a 2oz ramekin is a joke and the kitchen table napkins?? You cannot appear to be a mom and pop when you're such a large chain.. It doesn't work - you just end up looking cheap. I should have known something was up when there were only 3 other parties in the restaurant. There were more employees crowded and sitting in the dining room than there were actual guests. Restaurant 101 - if you have claims all over your walls about how great you are, you better blow me away - it was a less than memorable burger. read more

Okay, this place seriously is not that great. I don't understand what the whole buzz about this place is. I'll admit that their burgers do have a lot of toppings that definitely make the burger a lot more interesting. And the toppings are free! You can get as MANY as you want. That's a plus. I definitely wish that more burger joints offers that kind of variety in their burgers like Five Guys does. But that's the only the thing I really enjoy. The patties here are not seasoned enough. Its very bland, oily, and greasy. When I pick up my burger, I just see all this grease dripping in ridiculous amounts onto my wrapper and tray. Not only that, since its so greasy, it makes the bread EXTREMELY soggy and its just mushy! Unbelievable. Next, it takes a good amount of time just to prepare a burger. A fast food joint like that should be serving burgers in about 5 minutes, 7 minutes tops. No, here I always wait at least 10 minutes for my burger to be served. That's just ridiculous for me. The way they prepare their burgers too. They have the buns lay out and then they wait for the patties to be cooked. Then they put the patty on, and then they assemble on the toppings after that. That's fine, but when you're doing that to 10 - 15 burgers at the same time, that's when it gets troublesome. Often times it takes a while because they gotta remember everything that you ordered on it and stuff. So by the time you get your burger, its not hot anymore. I'm very disappointed with that. I've NEVER had a hot burger from here. Its always warm or luke-warm. So its kind of gross eating an over-greasy burger when its not hot. I like my burgers hot, just saying. Their fries aren't that great too. They too are VERY oily and they're just huge. They taste very mushy and they don't have that outer crunchy texture that would normally be associated with fries that large. It feels awkward eating something big and mushy. Again its under seasoned, it needs more salt for sure. But they have shakers and cayenne seasoning so its alright. Lastly, the price you pay for this meal. Its ridiculous. For a full meal, burgers, fries, and a drink, you'll be paying about $10. Its just not right paying that kind of money for something that's not up to par. I would definitely go to Five Guys if the texture wasn't so awkward and if my burgers were HOT. I pick In-N-Out over Five Guys because they're definitely a lot more consistent. They might not be as complex as Five Guys, but they definitely put out something that's deemed worthy. Lastly, the value of In-N-Out is much better. $5 for a full meal to fill you up. On a positive note though, if you're ever in the east coast like in Massachusetts or Maryland, definitely hit up Five Guys there. Its much better over there than here. read more

The burger is definitely yummy! I had the "Little Hamburger" with grilled mushrooms, onions, lettuce, ketchup and mustard. Juicy, savory and succulent. The bun was quite soggy though. The "Cajun Fries" were meh. The flavor was pretty good, not quite cajun, more like a steak salt flavor. But the fries were very soggy. FYI, the burgers without the "Little" have double meat patties. This place was packed for a Sunday at 3 p.m. Line was out the door, it was crazy. So don't come here if you're starving because it'll be a while. If you have any peanut allergies, do not come here. They use peanut oil for cooking AND they have free peanuts for self-serving so there are peanut shells everywhere! Not sure if I will be returning. Don't get me wrong, the burger was quite good. I sometimes struggle going here because it's a bit more expensive than the local Carl's Jr, but the moment I took my first bite, I realized why I like it so much. Quasi build your own burger! I had the cheeseburger with tomatoes, lettuce, mushrooms, ketchup and mustard. So good! Even with those ingredients, the burger wasn't messy. So tender and tasteful. I would suggest they lower the prices on the fries though, or make the portion a bit smaller so they can lower the price as well. In fact, I think I'm going there tomorrow! read more
