I've tried to be excited about this place, but I am not sure what the hype is for FG. I thought the patty was dry and sloppy. The walk up and order service was great and the fries are good (they give you a ton!), but I wasn't happy about the burger itself. The restaurant is big and has plenty of seating, including an outdoor area. Maybe I will try it again. It is possible I ordered the wrong thing. I would like to try their hotdogs. This is a popular Five Guys out in Westchase on Westheimer, and it's kind of annoying because it's far from any of the highways, but it's in a pretty eclectic part of town across from an HEB and it gets pretty busy. I had been to five guys once about 5 years ago and never looked back. So here I am driving on westheimer and spot this location close to my casa. I decided to give it another try and it was a pure delight. As I walked in, I heard the workers yell out to each other, 2 at the door. I noticed that workers would shout to each other every time a customer walked in, emphasizing on how many in their party. That's a great way to acknowledge your customers. I went with a larger size hamburger with the regular fixing and French fries. They give u a scoop of French fries plus add another scoop. The burger was delicious. The patty was tender n juicy and dripping in the buns, but somehow the buns held on to dear life. The fries were golden brown, crispy and cooked to perfection. They were seasoned with Cajun seasoning. They had a nice soda fountain and there was choices of tea also available. They also provide u with complimentary peanuts. Just grab as many as u want. By the time I was done, my belly was a whopping balloon and food coma had seriously kicked in. I waited for over an hour before I left, because I couldn't move and felt so lethargic. I would recommend getting a small because they give you quite a lot. If you get a large then they literally give you a giant bag of fries. Who doesn't like 5 guys!!?? I mean juicy burgers, crisp hot dogs and a small order of French fries are enough for two people! Yummmmmmm. I remember the first time I went there they offer peanuts to their guests which I though was interesting but being allergic to peanuts I wondered how many people avoid this place. Anyways, I took my burger and fries to go without getting any hives, headaches, or respiratory distress, lol. I think they use peanut oil for their French fries which I don't have a reaction to. Really weird, huh. I know a lot of people who have a peanut allergy that can eat food fried in peanut oil. (I mean, I love some Chik Fil A). The burgers here are so juicy! I don't think they cook them to your preference so if you like rare or med rare you might not be pleased. Honestly I don't ever remember them asking my preference but that's okay because they are juicy. I have gotten a hot dog from here when I get a once in a while craving and they are good. Nice char. The only thing I don't like about their hot dogs and burgers is that the bread gets soggy quickly. If you take your food to go it's best to toast your bread slightly unless you like soggy bread. I visited this place last Friday. It was our first time trying Five Guys. The cashier was very friendly, and after asking us if it was our first visit, explained to us how the ordering process works. She told us that all their toppings were free, and explained the sizes of the burgers. Regular burger is 2 meat patties and a "Little" burger is only one. Little should be Regular, and Regular should be "are you freaking kidding me?" I got a little cheeseburger and added lettuce, pickles, tomatoes, grilled onions, and grilled mushrooms. It was pretty good. It looks greasier than it was, but it made it look so delicious. I felt the burger wasn't the most tastiest, but it was a pretty good burger. Their fries on the other hand? Get the smallest order, it will still fill up you and a friend. We got their large order and we still have fries saved at home. Also, add cajun seasoning to them. They quickly put themselves on the top of my new "Top places to eat Fries" list. If you like fries from Wing Stop, they are very similar in size and texture, just with different seasoning on them. I have been to 5 guys a few times. I think the hamburger is fair but small and overpriced. I do think the fries are good and I like the way they pile it on in the bag. Me I like the spicy version. My wife has never been to 5 guys before so I thought I would go buy fries and let her try. I asked the manager could my wife try one of each to decide which one she likes. I was so shocked when the manager said we don't give samples! BTW I was asking to try one single fry of each. The location is Bunker Hill and Katy Freeway. So obviously it's taking me a little bit longer to get on my health train. A familiar saying, "I'll start next week" comes out of my mouth every Monday it seems. So during the interim I've decided to exercise my taste buds and spend my empty caloric budget on a Five Guys Double Cheeseburger. This has now become by favorite burger. The well done meat patties, coupled with some ooey gooey American cheese really hits the spot. I select lettuce, raw onions, tomatoes, mayo, ketchup and jalapenos to add extra kick. I like how the jalapenos are raw and crispy adding texture and crunch to the burger. The thickness of the whole thing was perfect. Not overly filled where everything is falling out of the burger, but just enough feel like you're eating something substantial. The fries are pretty good. Taste super fresh and just enough salt. They really hook you up with a ton of fries as they seem to give you almost double the amount ordered overfilling the cup and into the bag. Five guys burgers and fries... Even the name is catchy! From the moment you walk in and are greatet with a yell from the kitchen ('Two in the door!!' 'WELCOME TO FIVE GUYS!!') you know this place is different. The menu is surprisingly simple- there are hamburgers (two meat patties), little hamburgers (one meat patty), and hotdogs, and your choice of either Cajun season or plain French fries. Now, I know the place is called five guys BURGERS, but I almost always get the kosher dog with mustard. It's just so delicious, and I hate to say it but I rarely am in the mood for a real burger. However, I do enjoy the Five Guys burgers on occasion, when I'm in the mood for a burger. They offer a wide range of toppings, all of which are free to add to your burger. They've also recently started offering a smaller version of fries- the "little" fries. The regular fries are so large that my coworker and I always split them, and always have fries left over after we're done stuffing ourselfs. I prefer the cajun flavored fries, just because I enjoy the extra flavor (it tastes like season all salt added, but not in an overwhelming quantity). The service is always fast and friendly, which is an added bonus to the already delicious food. This location does a good job hitting the Five Guys standard but I think the guy in charge of training employees might be on vacation so the remaining 4 guys each get a start but that's it. Rule #1... make sure your employees are courteous . Rule #2... make sure they know what they're serving . At the very least each employee working behind the counter at a burger joint should know how how many ounces of beef you get with a burger. It's not tough and it's completely fundamental. The fact the buns at Five Guys have always been so-so ( think weak and thin) has never been deterring factor but today it just flat-out fell apart. I bet being featured on food channel doesn't help sometimes. I really expected a GREAT burger because it was hyped on the show i saw the other day. Walking in the place it is clean... i did like the cleanliness and the fact that you can see the kitchen. Its clean, bright and cheerful. But the walls are covered with their reviews. No decoration, just alot and i mean alot of reviews. My first thought was they were pretty proud of their hamburger, after eating one... i decided they post those reviews because they had to tell me how good they were since i wouldn't have walked away knowing that just by tasting the burger. I ordered the small bacon cheeseburger with sauteed onions, sauteed mushrooms and mayo. That combo screams flavor and is my favorite burger, but this one had no flavor what so ever, the beef was there but not outstanding, and the onions and the mushrooms were boring! I love the freshness of this place! Not a big fan of their peanuts that are open to the public and left out to air and be stale in an open box. Still generous of them to offer. Burgers are consistently good, fries are some of the best I've had, next to homemade. Toppings are always crisp and fresh. Employees have always been nice & helpful. They lacked in 1 star only because their outdoor seating area is hardly ever attended to. Tables and chairs are dusty, umbrella are not up. All in all, beats the burger chains easily. read more
