I always feel like they have consistent, yummy burgers. Hubby goes with me, but this isn't his favorite joint. He says there just isn't anything special here. I kind of agree - I can't say there's anything special about these burgers, but it is always comforting somehow. Anyone else know what I mean? lol I tend to order online and pick up. So far, they have NEVER been made on time. Like, NEVER. We always have to wait for them to finish the order. I think they don't pay attention to the online orders until we come inside. And it's not like they're super busy in there either. Maybe one or two other customers inside when we walk in... but nothing is ever ready. So I'm still not sure with what's up with that. This last visit, I got a bun-less burger, wrapped in lettuce. They really did an overkill on the lettuce. See pic. So normally, with all this, I would have docked more stars... but for some reason, I still keep coming back. And after the long wait and peeling off half of the lettuce, the taste still lingers. I don't really find that much special about Five Guys as the food tends to be average and not particularly well-priced as it's all about the toppings and I am a bit particular about what I put in my mouth (if only we all operated this way!). $11 with tip for a small bacon cheeseburger with mushrooms is pretty ridiculous, and adding that it wasn't ready for nearly 15 minutes after the scheduled time and I see why it's so easy to dislike this place. I watched people come in after me, order, and get their food before my online, advance order was ready. They kept calling out a number that didn't match the order number I was given online and I finally asked for the name on the order and it was my order. I also got some bonus onions (I loathe onions) on my burger. Good thing I'm not allergic... I had to get a quick lunch and Five Guys was close. Despite prior bad experience, I went in. After spending $32 for a hot dog, cheeseburger and fries, I went to get a drink from the drink dispenser. One wasn't working AT ALL, the other one was dispensing just seltzer water--no flavor or sweetness in the drink. I tried four different drinks and none were working. I brought it to the attention of a staff member who was irritated that someone complained. At the time, there was exactly one other customer in the restaurant. He came to the machine and asked which ones I tried. I told him and his response was "Oh, I never drink any of those." He pulled up a screen and it showed practically all of the drink cartridges needed to be replaced. I told him I was actually using the OTHER machine and that he would probably have to replace all the cartridges in that machine too. He said, "I don't have to do shit." I said, "What's your name?" He said, "Why?" I said, "I'd like to know who I am talking to." He said, "I don't have to give you my name." He then scurried to the back room like a rat retreating to his lair. If you like burgers, and making a mess, you'll like Five Guys. Tonight was actually my first time visiting one in Milwaukee. I remember the chain fondly from elsewhere. Their food is pretty straightforward, but it's always solid, and the atmosphere doesn't lack charm for being simple. They have in-shell peanuts out front you can grab. Of course having peanuts anywhere is courting controversy. But for the non-allergic it's definitely a plus. Of course it would be a mistake to fill up on the peanuts, because Five Guys' portions are pretty large. The smallest size of fries, the "little" is easily enough for one person, maybe and then some. A small would feed 2 or 3. I always get the regular sized burger, which has two patties, though you can get a smaller one. All the toppings are free. And I like toppings, but not ketchup, so I got my burger "all the way" with no ketchup. So I had some grilled mushrooms and onions and all that good stuff. But even the lettuce tasted really fresh. And their bun is genius. It actually holds everything together. So many fancy burgers are dripping and falling apart by the time you're halfway through. This one was still holding some stuff by the end. They give you your food in a paper bag and I'm pretty sure the way fries are spilling everywhere is deliberate. Between the peanut shells, the burger, and all those fries it can get messy. But I have messy-eater problems anyway. Some might consider the price a little high, because you order the fries separately and the sandwiches, while hardly wallet-busting, aren't cheap. You're still getting a lot of food, but I get it. And my fries were maybe a little dry but I still enjoyed the meal. I'll be back when I have a hankering for a burger. read more

I had a bacon cheeseburger ($8.89 fried onions, ketchup, mustard), my son had a cheeseburger ($7.89, ketchup). My, my, my...the portions size/ratio of bun, beef, cheese couldn't be more perfect. The charred meat is some of the juiciest you'll ever have and the fries are solid. Overall, this burger hits that burger spot, whatever that is, it hits it, knocks it out of the park. What I can say however is that this location specifically really goes above and beyond. I've been here quite a few times and every time the staff are friendly and beyond hardworking. If you want to see the strongest work ethic around walk into this location for the lunch rush and you'll see the employees taking orders and making burgers with demonic speed and precision. One story that sticks out to me is on one of my first trips to this location I ordered my burger with my respective toppings and my cashier just kind of looked at me and said: "you know you can double all of these toppings for free right?" My mind was blown and you bet yourself that I doubled everything on that burger and I still do to this day. My final tip is that even if you've been before there's a good chance you've never tried a shake from Five Guys. Do yourself a favor and do just that. Dirtee likes a variety of burgers, so when you want a pub burger, you go to a pub. You want a flat patty with some flavor, 5 Guys is the place. Dirt don't do math unless it's got something in it for Dirt, so you know it's something special when he starts talking about ratios. Get a double patty, bare minimum. The goal is to stack the burger like you're trying to win in a team event. You put the worst player in front and reap the rewards by bumrushing the jabronis. In the end, the points get you championships. Basically, you double up the patty but counterbalance with the toppings. It's not that the burgers are bad - it's that the burger (though smaller than some other places) is just that good. You've gotta play your burger against itself to get the win. I have been there twice tonight to get 3 burgers. Not one of them was made correctly, BOTH times. I don't know how hard it is to make a cheeseburger with ketchup, mustard, onions and pickles. I took an hour and half driving back and forth getting crappy food that isn't even made correctly.
