I hadn't been in since they moved north a few months. I was very happy to see they had gluten free hot dog buns back in their menu (they had stopped carrying them last spring in the old location). Also, even though they had a Friday fish fry, I checked and it isn't fried in their french fry fryer, so those were still safe for me as a gluten free diner. I know food prices are high, but $7.15 for the plainest, most basic hot dog? Where are we, a Brewers game? I ordered a chili dog and fries. It was quick to get since I'm sure the dogs are already kept hot in the kitchen. I knew I was in trouble when I grabbed the takeout bag and it was light as a feather. I had hoped with those prices the dogs would have been oversized. Nope, just a regular size. I thought, Ok then this better be a damned good hot dog. Well, it was about as ordinary as it gets. The fries were on the verge of cold, so not made fresh by any means. Plus they are very stingy with them! It took me about 5 minutes flat to eat the "meal," and unsurprisingly was hungry 2 hours later. All in all I found it overpriced and overrated by the Yelpers here. For $8.10 I expect more food, but if you are unconcerned about money then by all means go there. The atmosphere was nice and the staff friendly. read more

Dr Dawg still offers some of the best hot dogs and sandwiches in the Milwaukee area. Several options for hot dogs including Chicago style, chili cheese, slaw dog and corn dogs to name a few. Great char grilled burgers are also on the menu along with hand cut fries. I do wish they would put 2 slices of cheese on a " Double" cheeseburger though.They also have "Pups. Little 3" varieties of their hot dogs. Prices are fair. Counter service to order then your food is brought to your table. My only gripe is I have to drive all the way to Glendale to enjoy. read more

I just moved here from Chicago, so I had to make sure there was a decent hot dog stand. In the Milwaukee area. No offense to Portillo's, but I like my dogs charred. The bun was a little stale, and the fries were covered in oil, and a little on the soggy side because of it. However, I have had a lot worse even in the Chicago area, many of which don't even have the correct fries, and some won't char the dog. I will definitely be back the next time I have a hankering for a hot dog and fries. They even brought my food out to the patio, and let me order over the phone, since I had my dog with me! read more

I think it was their opening night here in Thiensville. We came shortly before closing and it had clearly been a long evening for the staff but they kept it together well. Took a while for the food as a result but I know that will get better. Despite that, very good food. The Chicago style dog was legit as was the Italian beef. Seemed like hand cut fries which were fresh and yummy but needed to be a little crispier. Sometimes you crave a Chicago hot dog and this is the place for it. While they have many other options, the Chicago hot dog is delicious. They also have vegan ones for those who don't eat meat. If you are super hungry, you can order a foot long Chicago style. You can either dine in or order on line during a workday. This time I ordered on line as I was on tight meeting schedule. Dining in is also fun, the place is clean and nicely laid out. Sometimes they also have music. If you go in a group, you can order the rosemary fries (too much for one person) to go with. I've been a fan of this place for a decade and now they relocated a mile from my house! The Chicago Dogs are great! Their burgers are great! Today, I had the Italian beef with an Italian sausage, which makes for a pretty robust sandwich, and it was fantastic! I had them prepare it "medium" for just a little kick, ext time I'm going for the heat. People are as friendly as your best neighbors! This place just got better! read more

The young lady who takes the orders in store is very nice. I ordered and paid online; went to pick up my order and they had no idea I had ordered. I showed them on my phone, so, waited for them to prepare it. Defeats the point of ordering on line. The food was just meh. Their burgers are pretty good. My husband l came across this hidden gem over the weekend at Taste of Mequon. We definitely will visit their restaurant!

This was our first visit to their new location. We lived close to their old Glendale spot, and it was one of our favorites. We were very disappointed with our visit to the new place. It's now a "sit down" restaurant with a bar and waitress service. They did not have coke zero (other location had coke zero), so I got sprite zero and it tasted weird. I ordered a cheeseburger and slaw, as you now get a side with your sandwich. My husband ordered a chili cheese dog and fries. We used to get a ton of fries when you ordered a "bag of fries", so we figured we'd get a lot and split the sides between us. The side of fries that came with the chili dog was quite puny, plus they were overcooked and hard. The side of slaw was tasty, yet tiny. Lady bartender/waitress was very loud, and we had to wait to pay our bill because she couldn't figure out how to correctly ring someone's order. All in all, a really disappointing experience. This was dissapointing! Closed 35 minutes before the posted and advertised times. I definitely couldnt recommend this place because i wasnt able to try it. I even drove 25 minutes to try this place. And when i tried calling to order to pick up, the phone only sounds busy (i tried many many times). Oh well! I changed my to 3 because i do appreciate the quick response from owner Dr. Dawg. Their standout item is the wonderful Chicago dog, but they have all sorts of other good delicious regional food as well. They make an excellent Chicago dog that's delicious from first bite to last. It wouldn't be in the top 20 if it was in Chicago itself but in Milwaukee - where there are plenty of incarnations of Chicago Dogs, the best of which is Martino's in the South burbs - it's definitely in the top five and deserves a lot of credit for its deliciousness. The servers were nice, and I'm a big fan. However I did not see a doctor here, at all, nor any evidence of any medical professionals whatsoever, so I would like to state, for the record, that I am not a fan of misleading and false advertising. read more

Food is consistently good. We have been here several times and it's never off. It's not necessarily my favorite place to go to, but all the boys in my family like it so I go :) Their french fries are super good. I'm kind of picky about fries and these are great. They're good quality. All the beef from here gets a huge thumbs up from my family as well. Given the state of affairs these days where it's hard to find help/labor, I was happy to see that they were well staffed and service was not an issue on a Saturday evening, an hour before closing time. They don't close early due to staffing shortage and they were able to service on point. Another positive. The only thing they can consider fixing: Something with their system when you open the front door where customers walk in, there is a poster by the glass window that flaps like crazy and has a plastic bar on it, slamming on the glass window over and over when the door opens. I can't explain it, but it's something to do with the suction of the air. It's a little annoying to listen to when you're eating there. Every time the door opens, the plastic hits the glass over and over, which is annoying. I can get over that though, but it seems like an easy fix. Move the poster. read more

Despite all of the years that I have lived just a couple minutes from Dr Dawg, a recent carryout order was the first time I had ever eaten there. I'm not crazy about hot dogs so I was pleased to see that they had a French Dip sandwich and you could even tell them how much au jus you would like with it! Unfortunately they directly added that to the sandwich instead of providing it in a separate container. This resulted in extremely soggy bread and fairly dry meat. I struggle to understand why you would not keep the sandwich and the juice separate, especially since many who order such a sandwich are looking to dip the sandwich into the juices ("Dip" is actually in the name of the dish...) and the only reason that I can come up with is that those preparing the food have not ever personally partaken in the eating of the sandwich to know that this was a major faux pas. Also disappointing is that the food was not ready at the designated pick up time and there were no other patrons ahead of me or waiting to collect their food. read more

I'm dumbfounded. Did I literally just stumble on the very best Italian beef sandwich? I think so. I've eaten at Dr Dawg a couple times, but I think it's been years now. Maybe 5 or 6 years ago I was at my parents' house and as soon as I got there they announced they were getting Dr Dawg so I asked them to bring me home an Italian beef. I remember it being pretty good, but I didn't get to experience the "dipped" beef since it was a to go order. So this past weekend the boyfriend and I stopped in and ordered a dipped Italian beef, a Chicago dog, and a side of fries to share...oh yeah and he got one of their new shakes(chocolate). I was shocked at the size when I unwrapped my sandwich. I've had a couple Italian beefs in Chicago and this was comparable in size...maybe bigger! There was so much meat in that sandwich the peppers and giardinara were falling off. I'm still thinking about that wonderful sandwich 2 days later. The bread, just enough juice, the greasy peppers on top... My boyfriend liked his Chicago dog. I asked him how could he possibly order that when he could've had this!? Lol Anyhow, the fries were crispy and very good as well. The shake was just so so and looked haphazardly made like the chocolate wasn't mixed in enough. Stop #20 of 21 on our Milwaukee Burger Tour took us to Dr. Dawg in Glendale. While the name recognizes their specialty in the hot dog realm, they also serve a great burger. I had a 1/3 lb prime angus cheeseburger ($7.99, brioche bun, cheddar +$1, caramelized onions +.50, ketchup, brown mustard) and my son had the same (minus the onions) with sides of fries and Sprecher sodas on tap. The bun was great, we'd asked for medium on the meat and got well done, had a good char, quality beef. The fries were very similar to Five Guys' fries, best part was the Sprecher on tap (root beer, cream, orange etc). Overall, it was very good but we thought it could have been better. I can't believe how fast restaurants decline! Dr. Dawg has a sign up boasting it has been open for 10 years. After the meal I just had, they'd be lucky to last another year! Let's start with the good ... The restaurant is clean and well maintained. It's usually a bright, pleasant place to meet and enjoy an all American meal. Hotdogs, burgers, shakes, and grilled sandwiches galore! I was looking forward to a burger grilled to my liking with my choice of toppings, fries, and a soda. It's a simple meal that I've enjoyed here before. In fact, they are known for getting the burgers just right! Well, not today! I'm not sure how a burger fresh off the grill gets to the table cold! My medium well was dry and the toppings were sparse. I asked for lettuce, tomato, pickle, and mustard. Clearly, some kind of tool was used to put a perfect circle of mustard on the burger but it wasn't enough to even taste. The tomato wasn't fresh and the lettuce wasn't crunchy. The burger, itself, was dry enough to choke on. I was very disappointed. Additionally, the fries were covered in black spots. The potatoes were clearly not good but used anyway. The fries, like the burger, lacked character. They were limp and greasy. The few unblemished ones (that I could eat) weren't even improved but ketchup -- which I usually don't use anyway. I don't go to McDonald's because I have to special order for "hot" food by asking for "fresh" items. I didn't expect to have to do that here. My food was inedible. A dine-in meal should never be so cold that it makes you lose your appetite before you finish it. The final insult was the music. Someone on the team must love hard Rock! The selections being played were so aggressive they actually made the dining area uncomfortable. A space that is usually nice to sit, watch people, eat, read, visit with a friend, or just enjoy the meal was turned into a loud scream zone for syncopated noise! All-in-all, this was an epic FAIL! Too bad. This was one of my favorite places. I've now had three consecutive declining bad experiences here. I won't be back. read more

REAL MEAT! Dr. Dawg provides excellent hotdogs and sausage at a reasonable price. Calgary service was fast. Their staff is friendly. I have been there on three occasions. I've ordered a variety of items: Polish sausage, hotdog and bratwurst. They're were excellent, and wrapped the order so it was still hot when I got home 10 minutes later. Paging Dr. Dawg... I came in right after 1:00 for a late lunch to try out Dr. Dawg. They are known for Vienna hot dogs and Burgers I was torn between the chili dog, Chicago dog and a burger. I ended up with both the Chicago works and the burger two premium beers and Garlic rosemary fries. all for under $20. Staff was pleasant the location was very clean inside and out. The patio was not being used at the time and there was plenty of places to sit inside. The fresh cut fries were soft and cooked OK. I should have asked for crispy fries. as they generally cook soft fries. The seasoning was good just the right amt of Garlic and Rosemary. I have not tried this Green river soda you speak of.. It is still a mystery for me. All I know is that it is a green colored soda that looks like the neon green relish that is on the Chicago Dog. The Burger was great and well worth the money in fact this burger is better than 5G burger and fries. So I was impressed. Food: 4 Service: 5 friendly staff. Location/Appearance: 5 Very clean Restrooms. Nice large TV screen. Value: 3 the bottle beers were 3.49 each. The burger was a better value compared to the Hot dog. Self serve Pepsi products.
