a stack of hot dogs

This is the perfect spot for a good hot dog on a night out. My go to is now the chili dog because I am forever loyal to the deliciousness of a Chicago style dog from Superdawg in Chicago. Dogg Haus is consistent, not flashy, and yummy. It definitely is a great no frills hot dog joint with quick service. You can't beat it!

He's wondering why the hot dog place is closed and where to go now for lunch

This place has baffled me for a long time because I have driven over about 5 times now around noon on the weekends to try them out for a beef and a hot dog of some sort. When they had a web page it says that they open at 11am on the weekends just like yelp states but they are always closed. I have even called several times to verify the hours and even the day before my drive only to constantly find them closed at noon on the weekends and a waste of a drive because I don't live anywhere close to then. So last night I call to verify the hours again and I told that they open at 11am but maybe 12pm if the worker is late, what is that about. I get there at 11:45 and the place is closed so I decided to stake the place out and see what time that they actually open and at 12:40 pm a guy starts putting the outdoor seating in front of the place, that's almost 2 hours late to open. I opted for a chili cheese dog and a Chicago style beef dipped with hot peppers. The chili cheese dog looked pathetic and anemic was my first thought and it had a thin whiff chili on it and shredded cheese. The chili cheese dog was over priced at almost $5 with tax for what you get. The Chicago style beef dipped with hot peppers was flash dipped so the bread was not soggy like I like them and it was smaller then the average Italian beef I thought. The beef was clearly the better choice and the peppers were hot to my liking. I would stick with that Chicago place that starts with a P for beefs and dogs because this place was a let down and over priced for what you get.

I stopped by the Dogg Haus last week because I was seriously caving their Rome Dogg, which is a Vienna beef hot dog topped with provolone, Italian Beef, and giardiniera. It's so delicious and probably my favorite hot dog! Yes, I would take a Rome over a Chicago dog. I also ordered a Chili dog and fries, which were both also delicious! The food survived my drive home, and the jus from the Italian Beef made the bun a little vulnerable, but that is to be expected. It certainly did not take away from the flavor and experience of satisfying a craving. The food got the job done, and I would go back again.

Closed in spite of posted hours stating otherwise. Not cool.

I've enjoyed the hot dogs here before, especially liked that they have a meatless imitation hot dog. The hours are so erratic and undependable it's just too frustrating. Don't ever get your hopes up high, don't try to come here when you're hungry or have a serious jones for a hot dog, they will more likely than not be closed. I would only recommend coming here if you're not that hungry so you won't be bitterly disappointed when it's all locked up. Also, parking is a problem, and since you can't really tell if it's open or not from a car on the street, I also would only come here on a bicycle, and again, only when you're not that hungry.

Service was great considering how packed this tiny shop can get. It's a quick in and out. I've only tried two types of doggs, so I can't attest to all of them, but they were pretty good. This Chicago Style Dogg was lacking a bit in flavor, perhaps it was the lack of relish or it needed more peppers. Either way, they're open late and convenient if you're on the East Side or Downtown MKE.

Haus everything going? Well I hope? Well in that case, on with this review. I'm not a big fan of the Dogg Haus... the Chicago dogs here are around about a four star - not completely authentic, and not completely fresh and delicious, but definitely on the right track. The reason why I really didn't enjoy it, though, was because several employees were smoking directly outside the store - at the table next to the doorway - so the store smelled of it, and the doorway smelled of it, and the guy that got up from his break to go make my hot dog smelled of it. I kind of have a phobia to cigarettes, as I know a lot of people do, but I'm worse about it than any of them. In my own mind at least. So that definitely put me off just do it in the back or something. I'd have given 4 stars but that aspect lowered it to 3 and made me lose my appetite.

Dogg Haus cheese curds

This little stand advertises for hot dogs with a variety of add on options. However, the small space was very dirty, no place to sit. The hot dog was... . The cheese curds were ok- However I have to wonder if they have passed a health dept evaluation.... My suggestion would be to move on..

I found the perfect place in 3rd Street Market Hall, just a block and a half from my conference hotel. I loved the food hall and had two lunches and one dinner there during my stay. There is plenty of seating. The people at Dawg City were incredibly nice and made me feel like family. Service was excellent. I opted for their Classic, which was a beautiful, meaty beef dog topped with mustard, ketchup, relish, and finely diced onions. It was outstanding! Every bite had the topping mixture. Yum! The fries deserve their own paragraph-crispy with a delicious seasoning blend, which I dunked in ketchup. Pure heaven! It takes a lot to impress me-i've eaten a lot of hotdog and fries in my time-but Dawg City would have to be one of my top best, for both the food and the experience!

I decided to try the Santa Fe, and it was topped with a squeeze of smooth guacamole, pico de gallo, and cotija cheese. Maybe the toppings cooled the hot dog down a bit...I would have preferred it to be warmer, but it was good. Mr. R ordered a chili cheese dog, and he kept talking about how good the chili was. He talked to someone at the stand and found out its homemade. I tried a bite, and I agree it's quite good, with a nice cumin flavor. Next time I would take a pass on the Santa Fe and go straight for the chili dog!

**July 2025: Wednesday Lunch Visit**…read more While I was researching iconic food in Wisconsin I came across an item called Butter Burger which sounded so decadent and delicious. My friend and I were only exploring Milwaukee for a day so we wanted to make sure that we picked a good spot to try this region favorite. AJ Bombers came up consistently ranked on top for really great burgers. We came on a weekday so parking was pretty easy, but it is metered street parking. The restaurant is located at the corner of a large building and since we arrived right at opening we were seated right away. We ordered the following -Cheese Curds $9 - These were delicious. Nice and crispy, almost had an airfried texture to it so it tasted healthier than others that I've tried -Bomb Butter Burger $14 - The meat was very juicy and overall a good burger -Milwaukee Burger $12.50 - This was a fantastic burger and I think I preferred this to the Bomb Butter Burger. The flavors were more balanced IMHO -Tater Tots and Fries: The burgers all came with a side and I enjoyed both! They were freshly fried and served hot. The tots made me feel really nostalgic since those were things I remember eating growing up. The unfortunate news is that this restaurant despite all the accolades will be closing later in 2025. It's served Milwaukee for 16 years and while I'm bummed that they'll be closing their doors later this year I'm glad that I got enjoy one of Milwaukee's best. If you get a chance to check them out their decor also has a lot of personality.

I haven't been in years, but it was sad to see that they don't give out peanut like they used to and they were not all over the floor. There was a singular waitress there but she was nice and checked in on us. I ordered the Milwaukee Burger. I loved the onions on it and added tomato to it. I thought the burger itself was ok. Not too much flavor, I wish it was a little more pink. It would've been better if the bun was more toasted as well. I ordered onion rings, fried pickles, and cheese curds. Cheese curds and onion rings were really good, but the frickles were huge and every time I would take a bite the pickle would come out of the batter and I would be stuck with the plain batter alone. Overall loved the ambiance and I was miss Aj Bombers and its history.
