I don't get it. I paid $14 for a small hamburger (no cheese, no bacon, no avocado) small fries and small drink. It was supposed to be worth it. It was not. It was ok. It's supposedly not "fast food" but it arrived pretty quickly. That's why 2 stars. It was just ok. Whataburger, InandOut, Sonic are all just as good for 1/2 the money. And for the money, Tommy's and Charley's are way better in my neighborhood. I don't know how they get away with charging that much for a pedestrian burger and greasy fries. read more

Whoah! It's finally open! When you go in, you have to walk around the boxes of open peanuts. Stamped all over the walls are drooling testaments to all the rave reviews it's gotten, fake newspaper clippings, you know the sort. Small menu! (But that's fine-- remember, you're paying extra to NOT eat at Jack in the Box). The food is awesome. There's an array of toppings for your burger/dog, and half of them are in black so you can get them all on it at once for streamlining purposes (mushrooms, grilled onions plus etc standards like lettuce and tomato). Fries are two choices: Five Guys and Cajun Style (I opted for the former-- it seemed like it would have less sodium). Five Guys Style is thick, hand cut, salty and swimming in oil. Mm. One order was enough to split between us. We both got cheeseburgers (his with bacon), we shared the fries, and the two teas was almost twenty bucks ($19.44). Our burgers were both double patty, so I noted that the "small cheeseburger" is probably what I meant to order. Nevertheless, these things are MONSTROUS! Hot, wrapped in foil, and oozing ingredients. I mean, sure it took awhile, but I don't think anyone can complain when the entire cooking process is easily observable by your hungry eyes. They don't make it 'til you order it (yes, I know JIB owns that one), the assembly line creates it, and then it's served out onto a big red and white tile counter. And this place is CLEAN. Seriously, sparkling. No employees were idle-- it looked like everyone was busy (we even remarked about how there were more employees than customers) and they were swarming in cleaning the place, making the food, or taking orders. They've got to be as efficient at lunch. The crowded parking lot says they've better. read more

They have little burgers and burgers. The little has one patty and the burgers have two. It's a decent burger, however they need to acquire some swiss or pepperjack cheese besides American... or maybe it's cheddar? They have plenty of toppings for free to choose from, but I rather have swiss cheese with my mushroom on a burger. My kids love the cheese dogs. They are pretty good. There weren't exactly five guys from what I could tell, more like just a couple, and they each seemed dialed into the same idea: churn out some made to order but tall by way of smallish circumference burgers with fresh fixins, keep the line moving, speak to each patron personally. And let me go on record as noting that I really love the latter on that list. They do a fine job here of engaging with their clientele, and they want you to know who they are, that they're accessible. It's a nod to the age we're in, and I seems to me Five Guys has embraced that ethos full bore As has no doubt been reported, Five Guys doesn't charge for fixins and you get the chance to choose from the pouperie as result. Fries come steaming off the fryalator and can be rather dangerous as they first hit the table. Be aware. But ultimately, they do a reasonably job of responding to the marketplace. It's not a perfect situation, but it's it's a start. And in the interim I'm not a stranger to not having everything sorted just yet. And this is where it helps to have work assembling quick gift bags. Check it you haven't been in in a pinch recently. They're likely ready. read more

I'm probably in the minority here. But Five Guys Burgers being good has been in hot contention within my circle of friends now a days. Looks like they've expanded throughout the country, as they just opened a few in my hometown in Southern California. I couldn't pass up the chance to try Five Guys since I've been told its beaten my hometown favorite In N Out in some surveys. Well In N Out it isn't. Be warned that a "regular" hamburger or cheeseburger is actually a "double", with double the meat. I should have gone with a "little cheeseburger", which I would assume is a single. Fair enough, wish it had said that somewhere. I got it "all the way" with: mayo, relish, onions, lettuce, pickles, tomatoes, grilled onions, grilled mushrooms, ketchup and mustard. Extras upon request are: Jalapeno Peppers, green peppers, A-1 Sauce, BBQ sauce or hot sauce. I asked about the fries and the friendly cashier said I should try their cajun fries that have a kick, but are "so good". After paying almost $9 for a meal without a soda, I was thinking to myself that this better be good!!! But sadly I was disappointed. All I could taste in the burger was cheap cheese. I was excited for the grilled onions and mushrooms...I love me some grilled onions...and mushrooms?!! That should be a bonus. But I could hardly taste them...again, the cheese was just that overwhelming. The fries were so salty I couldn't even finish them. I could swear I heard or read a Five Guys catch phrase "Five Guys knows fries" Are they frozen? Because they were soggy and weren't cooked all the way through. So disappointed. I don't think they're that...bad. I'm almost inclined to think it fell short of my expectations, because I love In N Out that much. Why the comparison I have no clue. This place is REALLY hyped up and I don't quite get it. You can serve yourself peanuts while you wait in line or wait for your food. They "brag" about the fries in the cup but they were all mushed into the cup (small and broken) and a bit soggy. I don't get what people love about this place. My suggestion, go to Sonic and you'll get just as good a burger (if you call Sonic a "good" burger) and less noise (you will be in your own quiet car) and less hype. I was disappointed. The price is on the high-side and the food was on the low-side. I find that burger places all seem to have their own qualities. It just depends on what you are looking for. I general don't go into restaurants and compare them with other restaurants. This is not burger King, it's not Sonic and it's not In N Out. They they don't used processed meats with God knows what else mixed in with it, they cut and fry real potatoes they don't buy tons of frozen processed potatoes dipped in formaldehyde and sugar to make them crisp and brown. They don't slap frozen rounds of mystery meat onto the grill but rather hand make their hamburger patties fresh with real beef. Those who make their comparisons to other fast food places have grown up with the over seasoned, fat & chemical laden mystery meat and say that real food has no flavor. I hate putting chemicals in my body and refuse for the most part to eat processed foods so my burger today actually tasted like a burger should, rather than what you can get at other fast food places. I love that they have malt vinegar for the fries. I think it would help their fries if they didn't put them into a bag right away, maybe have trays for people eating inside so we could really enjoy the fries when they come right out of the fryer. I also appreciate that they use peanut oil and not canola oil which is a made up name for rapeseed oil and oil known to strip the shield off your nerves. Most of the fast food places use canola. In addition, each person working there took the time to say hello and engage me in conversation. Having come from San Diego three years ago, I couldn't wait for In N Out to open last year, but in the mean time someone introduced me to 5 Guys and I was in heaven. I do on occasion enjoy an In N Out burger, and they are definitely cheaper, but with 5 Guys they've met their match cost not considered. read more

Okay. First of all, I will say that my little bacon cheeseburger was pretty good. The bread was pretty typical, The bacon was fresh, mushrooms were great, and the jalapenos were amazing. Five Guys burgers suffer the following Five qualities: 1. They did not offer avocados. Come ON. Seriously?? 2. They do not have chili for their hot dogs. 3. Their fries tasted like they had ground up an entire cajun family and dumped it on top. Seriously... moderation. 4. They do not carry ranch dressing. WTF. This is Texas. 5. Men's Health Magazine says this is some of the most unhealthy food in America and it's true i got the bacon cheeseburger and with everything on it onions,tomatoes,pickles it was already over 900 calories and they have fries that have cajun seasoning on them and they give you a lot of fries. Great burgers, even better fries! I admit it...Five Guys snuck up on me. I had heard little about the chain before its appearance in Southlake. Then next thing you know - BAM - they are everywhere. The food had an equal effect on me. My first sitting I thought the burgers were 'okay' and the fries intimidating (more on that later). Fast forward to two months later, and I find myself driving ten miles from my office at lunch just to get those selfsame fries! I'm definitely hooked. More on this: the fries are hand cut. Yes, I know, many restaurants serve hand cut fries. But how many keep the fresh bags of potatoes stored out front by the counter, and put up a sign with the name and location of the farm where that day's batch was purchased. They take this stuff serious. And it shows. The fries are flavorful, with just a hint of crispness without overly drying out the inside. The Cajun fries are my particular addiction, with a light dusting of a mild Louisiana mixture that is never overpowering. And a word on the 'large' fries. I know you have seen "large fries" on menus from coast to coast. Here, they mean LARGE. They are served in a Big-Gulp sized cup filled to the brim. And just when you think you are making a dent in them, you realize another massive scoop has been thrown into the bag the cup came in as well. Servers will tell you they are intended to serve four. At little more than $3.50, this makes Five Guys one of the best fries bargain out there. As for the burgers, repeated meals here have shown these bad boys to by consistently good. The ingredients are fresh, which is particularly nice with the jalapenos - fresh as opposed to pickled means more heat and a crisp quality which adds a nice texture. So don't wait to let this burger joint surprise you. I know you have alot of choices out there for burgers, but this one is well worth it. read more

The burger is really good and with that being said I have one complaint. I take my burger to go and they wrap it in foil. That is a no no as far as I am concerned. The foil makes the bread soggy!!!! I had never had Five Guys Burgers before and quickly pieced to together why I should never again. The place opens at 11am but physically did not open until 11:20 and even then their stations and grill wasn't ready until 11:40. the staff was friendly but the food was awfull. The burger from veggies to the patty was completely tasteless. the only flavor came from the bacon which I barely noticed because of how everything save for the patty started to disintegrate in my hands from the excess mayo and whatever amalgamation of moisture that seeped into the bun. We hadn't eaten at Five Guys in a long time. This location was not clean, the tables were all in big groupings. We ordered our food and had to wait a long time. The food is really pricey and everything is separate. It cost us over $25 for two meals. Nothing had been re-filled in the beverage stations. Both machines were out of various sodas/Dr. Pepper and I asked two different staff members to fill and they said they would but they never did and just didn't seem to care. It looks like they may have been understaffed. The burgers were just okay and the fries were greasy and over-salted. This is the second time I have visited this location and both times were not a good experience. Sorry, I won't be back. read more
