I've been going to this Five Guys since I was a kid. Love their burgers and fries. Some of the best I've ever had, even with all the years I've been going here. If you're not in the mood for a burger or hotdog, GET THE FRIES. I have never had better ones before. They're fried in peanut oil so if you have an allergy, I recommend not stopping by. While the fries are great, everything else is just-okay. I can't believe they charge $5.29 for JUST a hotdog. I was expecting it to be a foot long or something, nope, one kosher hotdog. I have eaten at this Five Guys location around 10 times now. I like the hot dogs and I really like the Hamburgers. If you are going to visit, the fries are obligatory. Not as good as the Avon location. I don't like the room's vibe as much, although maybe I'm a bit biased because the Avon location was my first. Also, the fries were not quite as good or plentiful, and while I like a juicy, sloppy burger the one here was almost unwieldy. We have made the trek from Cheshire to the Avon 5 Guys several times in the past year. Only today we noticed there was a location in Farmington, about 10 miles closer, so we went there for dinner. I give it 4 stars because the hamburgers were awesome, but there were a few niggling problems that makes me think the Avon location is better. First we discovered there was no ice in the soda machines. Second, and the kicker, is that we bought a large fry. At the Avon location they pile the fries into the bag and a $5 large fry is enough to feed two adults and sometimes the kids too, depending on how hungry everyone is. As it is the girl putting the fries in just barely overfilled the cup, just barely enough to get a few greasy fries on the bag. Either she needs to be trained in the 5 Guys way or this location is just cheapening out on one of the best features of this restaurant. I will say that one of our favorite features of the restaurant is the peanuts and that you can throw the shells on the floor. There is something caveman-like about spilling your food and not worrying about it. A nice feature and the kids got a thrill! edit: I sent a note similar to this to 5 Guys Corporate and it made its way to the Owner. We have received notification that they have let the girl "scooper" know about the extra scoop, and a gift certificate for our troubles. Great customer service, we will definitely be going back. Five Guys is a great example of how simplicity is sometimes the key to success. There are burgers and fries (as the name implies) and not much else. There are also hot dogs and a couple of sandwiches on their menu but the burgers and fries are the stars. Their burger menu is very simple - two sizes (essentially small or large) that you can either get plain, or with cheese and/or bacon for an extra cost. Everything else is a free add-on which goes perfectly with their made-to-order theme. While at many fast food places you can sorta see the cooks at work in the background, these employees are at the forefront at Five Guys. You can watch your order made from beginning to end, and I really think that adds to the experience. My favorite thing about Five Guys by a long-shot is their Cajun fries. They are a must-order every time I go there, and have the perfect amount of spice. Speaking of their fries, if you don't have a huge appetite, I'd go with their smaller size since they typically throw an enormous amount of fries into a paper bag. I, however, always go for the larger size because I like them so much. While you wait for your order, there are boxes of free peanuts you can eat. This is a nice touch, especially since they fry their fries in peanut oil. So if you have a peanut allergy, I'd stay far away, which is totally okay because it would mean more Cajun fries for me! **Pro tip - if you are playing an all-day softball tournament, I'd refrain from ordering a burger and fries halfway through. Very good burgers - VERY good. But be warned of the peanuts and peanut oil. If you have an allergy, you probably don't want to step foot near this place. I'm not allergic, but was still a bit overwhelmed by the peanut smells when you first walk in. But like I said, the burgers are delicious, so if cooking everything in peanut oil is what does the trick, go for it. Also, when I went here with 2 other people, we all ordered fries. They literally just dump a bucket full of fries in your bag that it would take like 5 people to finish 1 order of fries (it's like a medium sized paper bag full of fries). So whether you're alone or with a group, you really only need to order 1 order of fries! For some reason this is by first Five Guys experience. Came here on a Friday night and the place was pretty packed. The menu was pretty simple so I jumped right in. The unlimited toppings for burgers is pretty awesome in my opinion. I also liked that there was a sign that told you where the potatoes for the fries came from that day. They have one of those new touch screen soda fountains with the seemingly endless soda choices and flavor combinations. I had a Raspberry diet coke-Yummm! My burger was vert good! I didn't realize that a regular burger comes with 2 patties, so I took one of mine out. But it was so good that I ended up eating it anyway Lol. Tired of Tunxis cafeteria food (which is actually pretty damn good, to be honest), students often head across the street to Five Guys. One order of fries can easily be split between two broke college kids, because they always pile extra in the bag. If you like the cajun spice but wanna tone it down, they WILL make you "cajun light" fries, just ask! I also like the option of the smaller burger. Still trying to to figure out if Five Guys is an In-N-Out knock off or not.. Ok, so it originated from Virginia in '86 and doesn't have the long history of In-N-Out but the colors are similar. Branding and packaging are unpronounced and didn't like the fact that some locations use styrofoam. The burgers are delicious but too heavy on the mayo. I love the option that you can select an unlimited amount of toppings you want at no additional charge but question the freshness of the cheese and mushrooms. The cheese reminds me or Kraft's processed cheese slices and mushrooms from a can. Other than that, it's tasty fast food burger. I prefer the thin cut fries as theirs are more like steak fries. Fries portions come in an excessive amount, enough to for a family to share. read more

What everybody else said. There is no comparison to typical fast food burgers. I'd say the burgers here are much better than those at places like Red Robin or your generic casual chain restaurant (Ruby Tuesday, TGI Friday's, etc.). The available toppings aren't as "gourmet," perhaps, but the beef is superior. This was worst experience yet. Now when I go to Five Guys I'm not looking for a gourmet meal. I do expect a better experience than say a McDonald's. Walked in to order, there's literally 3 people ahead of me. Orders taking longer than usual, possibly new employees haven't seen these people before, I go about once a month so I got familiar with employees. Anyway, the guy working the grill has his pants sitting below his butt so all you're looking at are his boxers, totally unprofessional in my opinion. The employees were unorganized, nobody knew what was going on at all. Ordered 2 burgers, 1 hotdog, and 1 fry. They call my number for my order and then say, oh wait... we forgot your hotdog. So now the rest of my order is just sitting there while they prepare hotdog, and this gives me more time to look at boxers. So I have about a 10 minute ride at most to go home. By far the best "fast food" Burger I've ever had. I've been going to this place since it opened (they actually started renovating it around the same time we moved to Bristol) and it's been a staple when I really just want to eat something unhealthy. It's so good that when friends come to visit us, they always stop by and we end up with greasy brown paper bags, tin foil squares, and styrofoam cups everywhere. The fries are nice and thick and the cajun spice is amazing. The extra fries they dump in the bag is just gravy. The single patty burger being "little" is a stroke of marketing genius. (what kind of "real man" orders a "little burger?") It's also perfectly located, so if you call in your order when you get off I-84, it'll be done and ready by the time you get there. Only thing I wish they had? A fried egg as a topping. But otherwise, there's not a thing I would change about this place. read more

After having their food, I really thought Five Guys was a local "chain" to the area because it was such a step above your regular grab and go garbage. Considering they're a chain and the food tastes so obviously fresh, that's why it's getting 4 stars from me. I found them a little pricy but it makes sense, because it's a higher quality fast food than something like Burger King or McDonalds in comparison. I've been a Five Guys fan for awhile. It's not a place I frequent regularly (my arteries have been thanking me), but I enjoy a good burger now and again. A friend of mine and I decided to dine here for a long overdue lunch date recently and Five Guys did not disappoint. Standard burger and fries fare here, with those super fancy Coke machines to give you whatever flavor of soft drink you desire. Joint was clean (late lunch time arrival, in a busy location near Tunxis CC). Food was made quickly and fresh, served hot. I got the Little hamburger it was $4.99 and just wrapped in aluminum foil and placed in a brown bag then they dump the fries on top of the burger in the bag this is cute the first time but gets old fast and is a messy presentation. They could do a much better job notifying the customers when their order is ready the staff member screams out the order number every few minutes this is very distracting when one is trying to have a Conversation and adds to an atmosphere of chaos. read more

I ordered my food a 6:22pm online. I have a 20 minute drive and I left work 10 minutes late. I arrived at the restaurant at 6:50pm. I told the guy making shakes I had arrived. I waited 15 minutes until 7:05pm, thinking maybe they hadn't made the burgers yet in order to give fresh food. I asked where my food was but nobody could tell me for 5 more minutes when the manager I. Training ing was able to locate it, tucked away on a shelf. I asked the actual manager on duty, Saralyn (I'm unsure how to spell it as she refused to write it down for me) to make me new burgers since they had been sitting for 40 minutes by this point. She said "I refuse to make you new burgers." She also said that I left my own burgers sitting around for 30 minutes. Mind you, I cant walk behind the counter. I then asked for a refund and she refused to refund me my money and I would have to take my burgers. The burgers I left there dying while I waited for them.she said if I wanted a refund I would have to call the district manager. We played this game for several minutes and we both started raising our voices. I then asked what would happen if someone dropped the burgers while cooking them. I got no answer, so with her stance I am left to assume they would still be served. Saralyn was very unprofessional and unhelpful. I will absolutely never return. To this location. I was a loyal customer that has now gone for good. All i wanted were fresh burgers that were not sitting on a shelf dying while I stood there waiting for them. read more

I guess I'm biased since I'm a vegetarian, I've never had a 'burger' there. They aren't very accommodating to vegetarians, since they have no veggie burgers available, which I believe they should in this day and age. I've been here twice, both times had a veggie sandwich and fries. Both times it had way too much cheese on it, and just wasn't very good. The fries are very greasy, they're good, but my stomach really didn't appreciate them later. The only reason I went here a second time was because I was 2 seconds away from fainting and just needed something in my stomach and this was my closest option. Next time, I'll just faint instead. i like five guys burgers and fries, and i am a non-meat eater. as a vegetarian, they have some decent options - grilled cheese or vegetable sandwiches cooked on a grill that isnt used to cook any meat. the fresh potatoes are the only thing they fry here, so there is no meat contaminated oils used in the fries. prices are always pretty good, free peanuts while you wait (if you have peanut allergies, i suggest going elsewhere), and mello yello at the fountain. yum. parking here is ok, but its on a very busy corner across from tunxis community college and at peak times i would imagine getting in and out of here isnt easy. read more

I used to go here just about once a week after my roommate and her boyfriend came home with something from there once... In they walked with a grease-stained paper bag and the smell of heaven wafting from it and as they scurried from the door to the computer room it was all I could do to keep the saliva inside my mouth, what wondrous joy could be so incredible that they had to dash away from me so quickly? Was it fear that I would attack them once I found out what it was? Would I be blinded with pure gluttonous rapture if I saw it? As they made it into their room I called out, "What did you get to eat?" "Five Guys!!!!" they responded in unison. What followed was a love affair and unfinished quest for the perfect hamburger... Needless to say they do a wonderful job at this particular 5 Guys... the patties are always cripsy, greasy and juicy just the way a burger should be when cooked on a flat top. The fries are something out of a dream I swear and if the issue ever comes up to have to do away with peanut oil or not I will start my own french fry/peanut oil revolution (there isn't a better oil with which to fry a potato in my book...) Coming from someone in the food and beverage industry it's hard for me to not be overly-critical of most establishments at first. What I generally do is each once initially and then go back a second time. Regardless of whether or not the place is 2 for 3 I then objectively look at what their ultimately goal may be no matter if it is clear to see or not. Ultimately I feel that Five Guys wasn't looking to re-invent the wheel when they started out. I think what they charged themselves with was using the best products they could get that still enabled them to stay within their target price point. They weren't trying to be bold and different like a lot of gourmet chef's who go the route of opening restaurants based around classic ideas with modern twists. What they really attempted to do and have succeeded at well is removing themselves from the line of true "fast-food" restaurants such as McDonald's and Wendy's by cooking your food with real equipment and real cooks and not doing much else. They are what McDonald's and Wendy's were like if they hadn't come about in the age of mechanization and big industry. And as result we are seeing these well established chains moving backwards in an effort to compete with people like Five Guys and In-n-Out etc! So kudos to you guys and keep up the good work! And please don't change a thing. Your business model and concept works for a reason! And just as a side-note (please see my other reviews for more detail) why on earth as a vegetarian would you bother reviewing a restaurant like this, let alone give them a poor rating? Of course they can't do much to accommodate you, they serve flippin' burgers and fries! It's in THEIR NAME for christ's sake... what ever gave you the impression they could acquiesce to any of your requests is beyond me. Go have a salad from Whole Foods (not that their is anything wrong with that) but please don't belittle a chain for doing what they do well without regard to someone whom they probably have never had the intention of pleasing from the get go! read more

Slowly but surely 5G's is moving into New England. If you haven't tried this place, give your stomach a treat and go. NOW!!! All my 5G favorites from Alexandria VA were taken care of. From the great beef in the burger to the thick and crispy bacon to the "small" fries that over filled the cup they we're in and half filled the bag. I was eating them all the way home, some 70 miles away. You got it. I drove 90 extra miles on an errand to try out my first "local to me" Five Guy's. The good news for me and anyone in the Mystic area is that the 5G web site lists Mystic as opening soon. Not soon enough. I feel an errand coming on. Highest recommendation!! read more

After hearing people go ON and ON about how amazing this place is - and seeing as it is very close to the new house - I finally went to check it out. I have to say...the food wasn't BAD..but I don't think its nearly as amazing as everyone seems to think it is. Maybe its because I'm from Chicago originally and find it hard to compete with our local chain, Portillos. Portions were HUGE here, so good value for the money. I thought they were a little TOO huge though. Was glad I ordered the junior burger by the fries are easily enough to serve at least three people. I was a bit surprised at the wait, both to order and then to receive my food, based on the limited menu. But I guess thats just a sign of its popularity - much like the perpetually full parking lot. They have signs outside suggesting calling ahead - I think if I go back thats what I would do. read more

This is without a doubt the best burger and fries I have had. The place can be pretty packed at times and it is a bit pricey like some of the other reviewers have stated. But well worth the taste. I have found a reg fry to be enough portion for two people so split a fry to save some cash. read more

Visited on 6/14/17 - I ate at the restaurant as soon as my order was cooked and despite that still found my burger to be cold, the fries were even colder (and limp), and they only gave me a tiny cup of fries when I had ordered a regular size. The fry cook mentioned to me when he called out my order that he was aware that they gave me the wrong sized fry, but he assured me that he made up for it by putting extra fries in my bag -- upon opening the bag at the table it was clear that I still got less than I had paid for. The tables and chairs were all filthy as were the soda machines and condiment counter. What a disappointment - coming here is not convenient foe me but I used to look forward to going here from time to time as a treat. This past visit is likely my last, unfortunately. read more

This place serves one of the most Delicious mouth watering burgers I have ever eaten. The down side is the amount of cholesterol and fat you'll be consuming. One standard burger along with 1/2 of regular fries equates to about 1,500 calories. This is a heart attack served on a bun. Despite this, I love their burgers. I will have no regrets on my death bed lol. Please consume with caution as the food from this chain is considered to be one of the worst in the US. Go here if you want amazing hamburgers, fries and hot dogs. Good price for the amount of food that you get. It can be outrageously busy on lunchtime, so i suggest going weekends, maybe on the offtime for spectacular service. read more
