I really wanted to love 5-guys burgers every time I've been to one, ever since my friend on the East Coast first told me about the chain and I heard they had finally opened up shop out west, and especially after watching Daym Drops do his review on youtube. But every time I go, I end up feeling like the burger just wasn't really all that. The last time I went, I got cajun fries and the standard double bacon cheeseburger with pickles, mustard, and....I forget what else. Anyway, I'll say that I LOVE their fries, both regular and cajun. Once your burger's in the bag, they pretty much fill the rest of the space with fries, and I think they just toss a cup in there for show. The burger is a decent size, and while you're really the only one responsible for how the burger tastes when you have your choice of seasonings (as long as they do their part and cook the damn thing) there is something missing that I've finally been able to isolate over the few years that I've had them: There doesn't seem to be any seasoning of the meat itself. That's really what it comes down to for me. Even though the ingredients are entirely up to me, it seems like no matter what combination I choose, excessive or minimal, the patty itself is kind of bland, which essentially makes the rest of the burger bland. I don't know, maybe it could be offset if some of the other additions were increased, like extra bacon or something, but this is essentially what broke the mystique of 5 Guys for me. Make no mistake, I'll take one of their burgers any day over your typical fast food chain, but in this day and age, that doesn't necessarily say all that much. The only possible reason anyone could like this place is because they give you all the toppings for free. The atmosphere has a "similar" red and white feeling as IN n OUT. So, a word to the Veggie/Vegan Valley Dwellers: There are no converts to be had here. None. Do not venture to the Five Guys unless you like dead fatty animals covered with dead fatty animal products served in a bag with other dead animals and vegetables covered in a whole lot of fat. These have ALL the toppings (for me, toppings make the burger), and come fresh and hot right off the grill. Fries are all you need to go with it, and these fries are nearly perfect. the milkshakes are SO SLOW. today, I order 20 minutes ahead and when I got there, it still wasn't ready. I had to wait another 30 minutes for the shake. In total, I waited 50 minutes for a drink, a milkshake. It's absolutely ridiculous. When I asked, they said "sorry, your order was at the bottom so we forgot about yours" They never make milkshakes immediately. They wait until it piles up of at least 10 milkshake orders. To many of us, getting a milkshake is a grab-and-go type of thing. I'd wait 10 minutes for one, definitely not 50 minutes. Since milkshakes are so popular, I strongly recommend having someone to make shakes specifically to avoid future customers waiting almost an hour for a beverage. I love Five Guys milkshakes, but after so many times of waiting over 30 minutes for a drink, I will NOT be coming back in the future. It's ridiculous and disappointing. read more

I've been to Five Guys here and in Springfield... about 5 times. I've not taken the time to write something because... if you can't say something nice... or so said my sainted Mama. Today I went to Five Guys on 7th for lunch after buying some cigars at Cigars on 7th (rated 6 stars). I got a cheese burger and a small order of fries (cajun dusted). I helped myself to a small quantity of the bulk peanuts and waited... about 15 minutes. The place was about 15% full... not much of a crowd. I listened to the foreground music. Since I ate alone it wasn't an issue... but if I was with somebody conversation would be difficult. My burger came, along with my fries in a small paper sack. That's the way they usually do it. I had to unbury my burger from under a mountain of loose fries. Inside the foil were two patties, a slice of some form of orange cheese, some grilled onions (in small squares) and A1 sauce. This is just what I ordered. The bun was soggy and did not hold together well. The beef was bland at best, and since the fries were so vastly over-seasoned...it wasn't a good balance. At an earlier point in my life I would have been thrilled with the portion size. Now... it was just too much food. I finished about 2/3s of the burger and about half the fries. A burger and fries for $10.30 seems a bit steep. I'm not telling YOU not to go there, but there are better burgers and better fries for less money without hurting your ears with foreground music. If you're missing In-N-Out, . . . then you found it in Five Guys!! Flawlessly clean establishment with outgoing employees. Everybody was busy helping customers, working the grill, & or the counter. The menu like In-N-Out, small & simple. Many extra add-ons to compliment the naughtiest of burgers. The ingredients were extremely fresh & full of flavor. It was SO reminiscent of In-N-Out!! It'll make you feel like a traitor ;) The only thing that's a bummer is the COST!! $21.00 for 2 burgers & 2 fries. That didn't even include the drinks. OUCH!! Unfortunately unlike In-N-Out, we will not be returning weekly. $$$ Being perfectly honest, my waistline will appreciate it :D We will return when the cravings exceed the will to not spend our hard earned cash on fast food. Took my nephew here a couple of days ago and I have to say that my opinion about 5 Guys hasn't changed much since I lived in Atlanta: It's a decent burger with good fries, but not much to write home about. I like the "little" burger, which is actually a normal-sized burger, although the name seems to suggest a children's portion. A regular burger is a double patty, which I think is just a little too much and a bit expensive for what you get. When I pay over $6 for a burger, I like having the option of having it cooked to a temperature of my choosing, and that's simply not available here. If you like your burgers well-done anyway, I guess that won't matter. Fries are boardwalk-style, and the portions are enormous. They theoretically portion them in an 8 oz. cup, but then they throw a bunch more fries in the bag, anyway, so you end up getting half a ten-pound sack's worth of potatoes. I could never eat a full portion of fries here and be able to look myself in the eye the next morning. We brought home leftovers and plan to reheat them in the oven with a little cheese for a tasty snack later. Fountain drinks offer plenty of choices, with Coke Zero and Sprite Zero available, as well as several kinds of tea, so everyone should be able to find whatever they like. I do like the free peanuts and the color scheme here adds to the overall impression that this place is clean and well-run. Again, not my first choice for a burger, but there are definitely some good points. read more

Admittedly, I'm no burger connoisseur, so I am not rating the burger here, only the experience and 'other food' The fries are pretty good, though sometimes a bit too heavily seasoned. The good things is that you get a LOT of them. Generally more than fits in the container, with a bunch extra in the bag. A single portion is easily shared. Since I'm not a burger person, I always get a grilled cheese, and to be honest, the Five Guys grilled cheese sandwich and I are in a bit of a love-hate relationship with one another. You see, the burger simply begs to be eaten with its golden fried exterior and melty cheese, and I am a big sucker for grilled cheeses of all kinds. However, I just don't know how I feel about the inside of the sandwich. You see, they simply turn over two burger buns and stick cheese in between. That means the interior is not toasty bread, but slightly soggy/slippery bun crust. I also really don't feel $3.39 is justified for a fairly small hamburger bun with a small amount of cheese. The grilled cheese at Jack in the Box is MUCH better, comes with curly fries, and is a lot cheaper. The atmosphere is kind of lacking too. I mean, what can I really expect of a fast food chain, right? But still, other fastfood chains seem to have more booths, more privacy dividers, etc. Conclusion: I don't mind tagging along with my husband and friends to Five Guys, the fries and grilled cheese aren't bad. However, if I were by myself and wanted a cheap, simple, fast grilled cheese + fries, I would definitely go across the street to Jack in the Box. read more

Well me and the girlfriend went to 5 guys and a burger. and when we got there the first thought we had was that the place looks like a copy of Dicky's jo's Burger (the one on east 13th street.) Well me and the girlfriend ate there for a total of $25.35 and that included 2 burgers, 2 large fries and 2 large drinks was worth the visit. The service was fast and I like how they give your food to ya in a brown sack, that way you can see the grease spots from the fries. and yes they give ya a whole bunch of fries to go with your meal. I was excited to try Five Guys because everyone raves about it, but it was a huge let down and is nothing special. They were friendly, but the food was not good. Food took forever, the burger was plain, the bun tastes store bought and doughy, the toppings were less than mediocre, and the whole burger just fell apart when I ate it. On top of this, it's SO expensive. There are no combo meals and it was not worth the price. I have never been to Five Guys before, and I've heard it was really good, but I don't understand the hype. Me and my cousin had a craving for a burger,so we headed on down to five guys. Ive been to Dickie-Jo's,Red Robin,and I beleive this one has them both beat for a few reasons. The burger you get for the amount of money is pretty incredible.Throw on all the free extras and it made it even more special. The interior was clean,well kept.Bonus point for the very open air,visible kitchen. The fries were ok,however they werent as crispy as I would have liked. Oh Five Guys. Some people swear by this chain and I do have to say that it gets the job done when you're craving a burger one step up from fast food but a step below gourmet. When you step into Five Guys the red and white decor takes over while you step on peanut shells covering the ground. You can help yourself to complimentary peanuts and yes, regardless of what your mother taught you you can throw your shells on the ground! The service here was excellent when we came in 15 minutes before they closed. I like how you can see the burgers being cooked and assembled behind the counter. A small cheeseburger is enough for me - one patty at 1/4 pound. The normal cheese burger is two 1/4 pound patties. You can pile on your toppings including grilled mushrooms, onions, sauces, tomato, lettuce and so much more. When you order fries don't forget that they serve them in a cup and then dump a bunch more on top into the bag. A regular is more than enough for two people. I might try to order them well done next time though because they can be a little soft and soggy sometimes. The burgers themselves are pretty good. They aren't the most flavorful burgers but they taste fresh and they come out hot. The toppings really make them delicious. read more

I am from the east coast and have been familiar with Five Guys for over 6 years, and was ecstatic when I discovered that Five Guys was opening locations in the Eugene/ Springfield area. The convenience of having a Five Guys right on 7th in Eugene made me giddy, until the following occurred: Trip 1: I brought a friend a burger from Five Guys to campus during their lunch break. While eating their burger they commented on how the bacon was amazing and really standing out, because YOU FORGOT THE BURGER. Trip 2: You forgot to put the bacon on the BACON CHEESEBURGER. Trip 3: My burgers were made correctly with no complaints. I did request for my food to be made correctly, letting ya'll know that my order was messed up in the past. Trip 4: You forgot the bacon on my bacon cheeseburger, and left the pickles and mayo on when i requested for them to be left off. 3 of the 4 times I have been to Five Guys Burgers and Fries have left me disappointed. I visited 5 Guys for the first time the other day, and while the burger was ok, I doubt if I will go back. There are so many other outstanding places to get a burger in Eugene. What disappointed me the most however, was their complete lack of environmental concern. I order one single burger to eat on site. The burger came wrapped in foil and put in a paper bag. There was absolutely no need for the bag and when I gave it back to the person who had handed it to me he just threw it away. There are many options for serving the food that is not to go, (ie a resusable basket) but if they insist on giving me a bag for one burger they should a least have recycling receptacles for the paper and the foil. Also all those peanut shells are going in the garbage and could easily be composted. read more

In N Out is my favorite burger place. Five Guys is a very close second. Awesome burgers, great bacon, crispy french fries and always friendly staff. To give the place a low rating because they wrap your burger in foil and then put it in a paper bag is laughable. If you are someone who is that concerned with "waste" then it's probably best you stay home and cook all your meals from scratch. Five Guys makes great burgers. We went there for the first time last night and were underwhelmed by the burgers. My husband didn't know that a regular burger is actually a double; it was huge. Why don't they post that on the menu? Maybe they do and I missed it? Anyway, it was nice to see that they offered a large selection of free toppings and I appreciated the toasted buns, but the burger itself was not juicy or flavorful. It was better than McD's though! As for the fries, they were yummy. I liked how they weren't heavily salted, that they were made fresh to order, and the skins were left on. The best thing about getting a burger here is that all the basic burger toppings other than cheese or bacon are free. In addition to the regular stuff like lettuce, tomato, onion, ketchup, mayo etc., you can get toppings like grilled onions, grilled mushrooms, jalepenos, A1 all for free (and as many as you want, you could get all of it if you wanted!) The burgers themselves regularly are double patty and pretty darn delicious. It definitely curbed my burger craving and didn't leave me absolutely stuffed. The regular fries are good too. We got a large order and it fed the 5 of us (4 of them being 21 year old males, which was impressive.) I love that they have malt vinegar next to the condiments, you don't see that offered many other places. I would definitely come here again, it's 6 bucks for a burger which beats out Dickie Jo's for pricing. The reason I'm giving 4 stars though is because I wish they offered fry sauce. Always like coming here. Don't do it often because of the price but the food is always great and comes they way I ask for it. The staff is always very friendly and will help in any way possible. I love the fries, especially when they come extra crispy! If I had one knock it would be that the floor is always covered in peanut shells.
