I'm torn, bc I've been ordering fries and milkshakes for years at Five Guys. I'm not a huge burger eater, but I do like one about once a month. I finally had a Five Guys Burger, and guys, it was so meh. I didn't even finish it and I'm just not that picky! Sadly, on the day I ordered my first ever burger, our fries were underdone. My burger and strawberry milkshakes are always a chef's kiss, especially thanks to the ultimate life hack: ordering a grilled cheese and adding a patty -- pure genius and pure deliciousness. This review is specific to the location on France Ave in Edina. I wanted to take a moment to write after stopping in for lunch and after working in half a dozen or so kitchens and restaurants when I was younger, I can honestly say this is the cleanest kitchen and grill area I've seen in my life. Sure the food was great (honestly best milk shake and burger I've had in a long time) but the thing that stood out was looking at the walls and counters and even the grill it was just amazingly clean and this was right after the 6pm rush so yeah not only is the food great, the kitchen is wow clean. Oh yeah and the staff was super upbeat and nice. I'd highly recommend this particular location (Edina). I'll mention the only possible thing I could even hint at being remotely negative is their new fries packaging. I miss the cups they used to put fries in. By no means a big deal, just don't like the new fries containers as much as the old ones :-( read more

What I like about five guys is that all their locations are consistent in terms of flavor and presentation- I can see why they are always so busy. My favorite thing to get there is the grilled cheese sandwich with 1 or 2 burger patties. It's a ridiculously delicious combo. If I want to switch it up - I'll do the bacon burger with all the toppings. Regular fries are a must. Their milkshakes are thick and sweet. Overall a really good burger chain! read more

Today, October 10, 2025, I went to Five Guys for a nice dinner using a gift card. Unfortunately, the cashier or manager named Mario didn't know how to process the card and refused to try. He simply said, "Sorry, you can't use it." I attempted to explain how the gift card system works, but he wasn't open to listening. As the line began to back up, a kind woman stepped in and paid for my meal. Her gesture was truly generous, but the situation left me feeling embarrassed. This is one of the best burgers money can buy. Thankfully, we found another location more convenient to us, so this one ends up being solely for takeout. I have a hard time going to the credit union across the street and NOT stopping in for food. We have no complaints about the food here, other than it makes us eat way too much. When we're planning a visit, I don't eat for the entire day so that I can eat without much guilt (emphasis on the MUCH). I do have two pieces of advice. 1. If you get a burger with toppings, keep it in the foil and just peel it back as you eat it. In your eagerness to gobble this delectable mound of meaty goodness, you can squeeze out the toppings you've selected if you don't keep on the foil. 2. order less fries than you think you need. They're VERY generous with the fries, so you get more than you pay for with your order. Even though we've got a very hungry Boy with us, a small fry is adequate for the three of us. We'd get the large if the Girl were with us, just to keep down the tension. We all tend to get the same thing each time: Double Cheeseburger with Bacon. That's where the boy stops, after adding ketchup. The Hub and I get mushrooms and sautéed onions. I don't usually eat double burgers, yet I always manage to forget to order a single for myself when we're here. It must be a subliminal call to gluttony, as I have difficulty eating a burger that big. The deliciousness does drive me to keep going. At this location, parking can be a bear, so we've actually parked at the credit union lot after they're closed, and walked over to the restaurant. read more

This place is good. The food is SUPER greasy but when you are going for a good cheeseburger, what else do you expect? The fries are always generous and delicious. We usually share a large or small.... LOL. The customer service is where I doc the stars... They never greet you, they are never happy and it always seems like (The 5 times I have been there) that I am inconveniencing them for being there. Other than that, the peanuts are a nice touch. I love the add ons like the onion, pickles, lettuce etc.. That is always a nice touch when it comes to a burger. My friend always gets a double which is a lot of food. I was a little nervous trying Five Guys after hearing they do all their burgers well done. The only thing I'd prefer less is a raw hamburger patty. But nothing to worry about here, the burger was still nice and juicy and flavorful. If you want just a normal sized burger, order the "little cheeseburger" not just a cheeseburger. The cheeseburger is a double and it's huge. The little one was more than enough for me. I ordered mine with ketchup, mustard, onions and pickles. I could have use a little more mayo (I could always use a little more mayo) but it was awesome! I love that they cut the onions into chunks instead of keeping them in rings, it was so much easier to eat that way. The fries are good too, kind of like you'd get at the fair with the skin still on. I usually don't even order fries and if I do I barely eat any. I easily ate half of these, they were delicious. I'd definitely say Five Guys is in the running for best hamburger (traditional) right up there with My Burger. The only thing that might dissuade me from this place is the location, France is pretty much always a disaster, and with The Container store and other businesses sharing a fairly small parking lot, I can imagine at meal times ( I got there right before 11am when they opened) the parking can get pretty sticky. read more

Five guys features juicy burgers served hot and fresh and made to order. One of the nice things is that for the most part, you don't pay extra for toppings (cheese and bacon excepted) so its easy to have just what you want. They offer a wide variety of toppings including BBQ sauce, tomatoes, lettuce, pickles, grilled or raw onions, mustard, ketchup, mayo and more. Be aware that the size of the standard burger is VERY large - like high school football player appetite large. They can easily feed two people if you are willing to settle for the exact same toppings. Luckily, they also offer their "small" burgers which are still quite generous in size but a much more manageable size and priced around $5. I'll offer the same comment about the fresh cooked fries - the "regular" size is enough for a lot of people, at least 3. My wife and I shared the "mini" fries and still had some left over. When they serve you the food, they put an overflowing serving of thick cut home-style fries into the bag. Prices are pretty good. For the two of us - 2 small burgers and shared fries, under $20 (we just had water to drink but they have shakes and sodas too). Plus they have huge boxes of peanuts in the shell available for you to snack on while they cook the food to order. They will yell out your number at the end of the counter when your food is ready. The only problem with the Edina location is the very limited parking. read more

You really can't find a better "fast food" burger in the Twin Cities. I love being able to customize a fresh made burger with any toppings I want. The fries are amazing...fresh from Idaho. You get plenty to eat. Only downside can be the wait to get your food...but relax, eat some peanuts and pound some Coke while you wait. Love it here. read more

The friend who took me to Five Guys literally let out a shriek of joy when we happened upon the storefront. Burgers and fries and not much else, but what they do, they do great! Tastes like a real grill-out burger with tons of free toppings to choose from. Skin-on fries are delish and very plentiful. I'd go with the classic fries, though, and skip the Cajun-style option, which tasted a little tangy and canned. Loved the malt vinegar on the tables, though, and the peanuts to munch while you wait. And my favorite part of all - cheap! $3.39 to $5.69 ranges from a single patty burger to a double with cheese and bacon. And finally, great service and happy people - it reminds me of the legendary In 'n' Out Burger on the west coast. read more

I wanted and needed a Chili Dog with a Chocolate Malt....close to me because I did not want to deal with traffic at 5 pm. I chose Five guys...but I negated to look closely at menu (on internet) for they had neither. As I stated earlier I had a fixation and was disappointing when I arrived that they did not have what I wanted. Soooo I ordered a Hot Dog with mustard onion and tomato...it was fried and cut down the middle...it was very good. I had a root beer to fend off my malt craving. Again I was impressed by the dog and its taste. My only let down is the obvious ...No Chili dogs... No Malts but what got me is the parking for this location....good luck. There is parking to the left in a parking structure and parking in the front also in a parking structure that requires a trek to get there because local parking (in front) is always full. read more

So even though I lived on the East Coast, for some reason I'd never heard of Five Guys. In fact, with all the accolades on the walls specifically about DC, I started wondering under what rock I was hiding those years. It seems to be the summer of the burger here in the TC. Smashburger, Burger Jones, and Five Guys. And I think there are a couple more places downtown in skyway land as well. Like Kat, I liked the ability to choose from all the different toppings and sauces (they should have the thousand island dressing like in and out and mc'ds imho, but liked the A-1 option). But, also like Kat, I wasn't overwhelmed. Again, this is respective to other fast food places, not sit down waitress places. The burger was pretty good, but I prefer Smashburger's. The fries are the homestyle skin-on cut like In and Out. I'm more of a McDs style fry person, so I wasn't too excited, but I have to say, I liked them a lot more than In and Outs. I didn't like the styrofoam cup they used to serve them in. Who still uses those and aren't they horrible for the enviornment?? I'd come back if I'm in the area. read more

I'm a hot dog/sausage guy. I don't get burger joints. I can appreciate a tasty burger, but I really don't think this place is worth the wait. I went here for lunch one day and the line was out the door. I figured it had to be good so I joined the ranks in line. I had a bacon burger and a regular fry. This was WAY too much food. I should have gone with the smaller burger, what ever they call it. Was it a good burger for the price? Most definitely. I really want to give it 3 1/2 stars. This ain't your mama's MickeyDs burger or your daddies Vincent burger. But it is sodiyummy and good in the tummy. We decided to check it out. Note to self - 2pm on Saturday and there are plenty of tables. Good time to go. I ordered the regular cheese burger with mushrooms and bbq sauce. I prefer my burgers medium rare but these were pretty juicy for well done. They were skimpy on the bbq sauce. I could barely taste it. We did order fries. The fries were good but like Sarah P mentioned foam cup is not something it should be served in. One thing to take into consideration in the parking and traffic flow. I find many similarities between 5 Guys and the notorious Kris Humphries. First, they both started out from humble beginnings. 5 guys started their first restaurant in Lorton, VA, (outside of Washington DC) who nobody has ever heard of. Kris Humphries started playing basketball at Hopkins High School, in the less flashier, more humble of all of the Western metro suburbs. Ove the next 15 years or so, 5 Guys went on to rapidly expand their stores after a bit of a slow start. They went from one location in Virginia to 5 in the DC-area to finally over 1,000 as of last count. Kris graduated from high school and had big plans to attend Duke, one of the top schools for college basketball, but instead opted to play for his hometeam at the U of M for one year. He then went pro, playing for the Utah Jazz at the age of 19. I remember when he played there, he had a blog on the Jazz's website. I would read it and thought the whole time that someone needed to call a timeout on these shenanigans because he was clearly writing this himself. Typos, run-on sentences, entire paragraphs that didn't make any sense. 5 Guys may have taken a cue from this nonsense and has a super simple, straight forward menu so that there can be no confusion. Order a burger (regular or little, which to normal folks is a regular) with as many or as few toppings as you'd like. Fries are the only side and again, the small will easily feed two or three. People seem to like their food though, because they've won awards. From 2010 - 2011, they've been named the fastest growing fast food chain. Kris was named a McDonald's All American ironically in 2003. In 2004 he was the Big 10 Freshman of the year, a big deal considering the Gophers ended that season considering that they were tied with Penn State for the worst record in the conference. Just like Kris Humphries is just one member of the Nets (for now, at least), 5 Guys is just one player in the fast food arena and there are definitely better out there. Just as Kris is not expected to come back to the Nets next year, I'm probably not likely to come back to 5 Guys very often because I'm not sure that it lives up to the hype. And, much like Kris' salary, I don't think 5 Guys is a great value and left feeling like I didn't get much bang for my buck. read more

I checked out Five Guys for the first time today after hearing multiple reports of how it rivals the quality of the In & Out burger (which to this day, is one of my favorite all-time burger joints). The menu is straight forward, similar to the In & Out menu, and I ordered the cheeseburger done all the way (which includes mayo, fried onions, mushrooms, lettuce, tomato, pickles, ketchup and mustard) and the Cajun fries. The service was fast (if you're REALLY hungry, there's peanuts for you to munch on while you watch your food being prepared). Oh - and if you like your burger less than medium-well, well - you're out of luck. I was handed a bag and was surprised at the heft of it; when I looked inside, there were fries everywhere! Definitely a generous portion. I'll admit that I'm not the biggest fan of skin-on fries, so I'm biased that I like other places better, but it was fresh and hot and still tasted pretty good. There were enough fries in the regular order to feed at least 2 - 3 people, so unfortunately, I had to let some go to waste. The burger was also very generous in size! Seriously, to the point that it was difficult to eat, so I had to remove two of the three slices of tomato that came on my burger. The toppings still continued to slide around and my burger wrapper was littered with cheese, mayo, grease and other condiments so I wouldn't recommend eating this on the go. Unfortunately, my cheese (and your only choice is American) was not melted, but the burger was pretty juicy - a decent tasting burger but definitely nothing memorable. The Five Guys' burger doesn't even come close to the double and double animal style In & Out burger and the Shake Stack (Danny Meyer - please come to MPLS!) burger, but it's decent if you're in the area and if you're lucky enough to grab a parking spot out front, but I wouldn't make a special trip. read more

If you like well done dry burgers, this place is for you. My first visit to 5 Guys was a couple of years ago. I didn't recall it as a place that was memorable, and I figured what the heck, its just a burger joint. This is my second visit to Five Guys and total disappointment. I like my burgers juicy and a little pink, so I asked for my burger medium rare, and was politely told by the cashier that they only served well done burgers. I said ok, and was going to leave and he called me back and said, but they are very juicy. I said, I didn't like burgers that were well done and that I was going to go somewhere else. He lured me back in with the promise of a juicy flavorful burger. I haven't ever had a juicy well done burger and told him I wouldn't be happy if it was dry. He said they were all juicy, so reluctantly and based on his "assurance" I placed my order, he suggested fries that had a "spicy sauce" on them so they were spicy. I figured I would follow his lead and went along. As I was watching the grill cook put all his weight onto the burger press squashing down the burger and squeezing every bit of life out of the burger I was sure it was going to be dry. Well I get my burger and fries, sit down and lo and behold...burger is a double with a slice of cheese melted in between, dry and almost crispy,. The fries don't have a "spicy sauce", they have some kind of salt that has spices mixed in. WTF? I go to the counter and said that my burger wasn't juicy and the fries didn't have any spicy sauce, this was a salt that has cayenne or some kind of spice powder mixed in and liberally sprinkled on the fries...and the same guy who suggested all of this to me said. "Oh...thees fries haf de special sal on dem, no ees sauce, ees sal, and de burga ees weel doone, so ees no so red in the middle. We can't make it so much juicy." I asked if I could possibly get a burger that was well done, but that the fry cook didn't have to put his entire weight on the burger press and leave some juice in it for me. Here is what amazed me...the counter guy, now this is the one who said they were all juicy 5 minutes before, said, "Well, dey are all weel done and dees is de way they will come out." Alright . . . I know there's a cultish-worship aura around this chain, and that it's a greasy burger and fry place, so I expected good things. All told not the worst quick-serve burger experience I've ever had, but I'll never go back. First, the one positive point::, the burgers are good. Not great. Not anything to be excited about. Not even good enough to tell a friend. But they're not garbage. They taste like a Wendy's burger, i.e. definitely not frozen, but the quality isn't something you'll get at a traditional restaurant. Again, they're not great. Not by a long shot. They're not juicy; they're greasy, which I'm usually OK with, but no wow factor to speak of. And c'mon, why be so disingenuous? This is America. People love grease, myself included. The fact that the burger was good is the only thing saving this from being a one-star rating. I also found it disingenuous that the "regular burger" is a double and that the "little burger" is one patty. How hard is it to have "single" and "double"? I know, this is America, we do it big here, but COME ON. Why? Why scam people into dropping a buck fifty more for something they might not want? Same goes for the fries: why do you have to give me so damn many? Why can't there be a legitimate "single" portion? I could have easily split the amount of fries I got between three hearty guys and we all would have been satisfied. I could hardly get through 1/3 of what I got -- a total waste of food and money. Charge me $1.99 for something smaller. Seriously. Total scam. And they weren't even that good. The drinks, too, are overpriced. At least give me a meal deal, whether it's a burger/fry price like a traditional restaurant or a break for ordering a drink and fries. The whole meal was overpriced. It cost me $11.92 (or something like that) for getting fooled into a double burger, enough fries to feed a family (I'm sure they gave me an extra large portion for the regular . . . they must have . . . maybe the cooks felt bad about the exorbitant price and tried to make up for it in a weird way), and an overpriced drink. No meal deal. I wish I could have my money back so I could hit up a non-franchised local place, get the same meal (albeit better) in reasonable portions, and get a tasty beer instead. I really don't get it. People think those toppings are free? Don't be a dumb ass -- it's all built into the basic, nearly punitive price of the burger. Been there three times now and its one of the best burgers in town. Not sure if it was just an off day the days the two folks who have given it two stars were there, but its been a quality burger each of the times I've been there. To those who say they are 'over cooked' it says right at the counter they cook them to medium well. If that's not your cup of tea, that's fine, but they warned you in advance. Surprise - that's the first word that came to mind after my first bite; FINALLY a place that lives up to the hype! I've been hearing about Five Guys for about the past year, but never went out of my way to give 'em a shot...boy am I glad that I did! First of all, I'm always a big fan of free food, and shell-on peanuts while you wait is a great idea, but I found on my visit that you don't really have that much time to snack away on peanuts because the line moves so darned fast - I ended up eating just a few before it was my turn to order. They have hot dogs and a grilled cheese sandwich, but I walked into this place for a burger! There selection is limited to a hamburger, with cheese, with bacon, or with cheese and bacon (and "miniature" versions of those 4 options with a single patty instead of two). They do, however, have a plethora of topping options, and thus you can create virtually any "speciality" burger you might like to try for one price - I ordered the bacon cheeseburger "All The Way" to save myself any headaches of actually choosing toppings, and also ordered regular fries and a large drink, totallying just under $12; quite a hefty price tag for a fast food burger joint...until of course I got the burger. Unwrapping the burger, I felt like a kid at Christmas when I set my eyes on the double patty, fully loaded, melty cheese goodness inside. I took my fries out and set them on the table, then did a double take inside the bag as I noticed there were just as many fries left inside the bag as was in the fry cup...really? Note to self - never get a large order, and you share the regular. The burger itself was juicy, and with bacon, grilled onions and mushrooms, lettuce, tomato, jalepenos, ketchup, mustard, AND mayo, it was a smorgasbord of flavor. Unfortunately, the thing with "fresh-cut" fries like they have at Five Guys is that it usually means they are a bit "soggy", which is definitely the case here. I still enjoyed them, but for those who like thin, crispy fries (like me), this isn't the place to get them. So you know how at the end of infomercials, after all the advertising, all the wow's and oh's and ah's, you get the disclaimer? Well here it is - is it the best burger I've ever eaten? No. The fact that it was fully loaded with toppings and sauce helps it a whole lot; kind of like how mediocre steaks are helped by sauce...but it was good, and more importantly, it was well worth the money. The burger is huge, it's juicy, and if I saw it on a street corner by a MickieDs, In-N-Out, and Whataburger, I'd be hard pressed to not walk into Five Guys instead. read more

Usually, though, a company will promote itself as having "the best burger in the history of the awesome burger universe" and I will go and try it and it will either be mediocre, at best, or a complete and total epic failure (*cough*Burger Jones*cough*). Anyway, I digress. Five Guys doesn't mess around. They have ground hamburger patties, buns, and some toppings, and condiments. That's it, that's all they do.. which I totally LOVE because they focus on what they know and have perfected it. They don't try to get creative by deep frying bacon, or using grilled cheese sandwiches as their buns.. it's just a fricken amazing, simple burger. I love that you get to pick all of your toppings. They're kind of like the Subway of the burger world. The only thing that disappointed me was their fries. Granted, I didn't go there for fries.. but it would have been nice to have a really good thing of fries to go with my burger. The other plus.. the price.
