I went to 5 guys last Sunday after church, it was amazing love the milk shakes and all the fries they give you.

I've been eating at Five Guys for a few years thanks to my time spent in the Northeast. I actually go out of my way (roughly a 30 mile drive) to go to this particular Five Guys. Since the location is still new, the employees do find themselves reminding customers that a regular burger is a double and a little is a single. I always get the same thing (Bacon cheeseburger w/ketchup,mustard,pickles & reg fries). There isn't much more to the menu, so I don't feel bad about not elaborating on the menu. The fries are fresh cut and served at the bottom of the paper bag that everything else is served in. Serving sizes are plentiful, or in the case of the fries-- bountiful. The "small" fries are served in a portion that I would describe as "whatever will fit in a 20oz. cup and then some more thrown in on top of that." The burger is wrapped tightly in foil and there is no 'eat-in' option, everyone is served with a paper bag. Burger is deliciously well-done. Fries are fresh and delicious, but better eat them quickly because when they get cold they get a little funky. I've read reviews where the restaurant has been described as "having the ambience of a restaurant bathroom." That is an accurate description, but that is what gives Five Guys it's charm. You could go to any Five Guys in the country and see the same familiar tiles and laminated copies of magazine reviews stapled to the wall only reminds you that you are home. read more

I get the cheeseburger with everything on it, even the red and the black toppings..........You got to try it. Fries are ok and the peanuts are good for waiting around for your burgers. Bacon Cheeseburger with Jalapenos, Fries, and an Iced Tea. I like the fact that they have plentiful choices of condiments available at no extra cost. But, that being said, maybe we just pay for it all on the front end. Burger, fries, and a drink will set you back about $11 or so depending on which burger you opt for with as many or few toppings as you wish. Taste was pretty good for me, but at double the Double-Double price, I think I'll stick with Big Mike's when I want a burger combo over $10. read more

Well, guess what?? I rubbed on the magic lamp and the genie has granted my wish. Not only they opened their first California branch close to my house, it's like 3mins away from my golf course too! After telling my friend about it, we decide to eat here before going to the range (I suggested R&R, but the chances of food coma run high). Located inside the mall, it's a nice location and the place is pretty clean. Since I know the menu fairly well, I went with a Cheeseburger ($4.99), Cajun Fries and a drink. All that ran me a little under $10. Not bad, not In N Out cheap, but not too shabby. While we waited, my friend and I, actually more just me, munched on the free peanuts offered. As many have written, everything at 5 Guys are cooked in peanut oil. The burger arrived and honestly, it was as AWESOME as I had remembered, but it's pretty good. For the regular Cheeseburger, you'd get 2 fresh patties, and I loaded up on the optional condiments (grilled onions, grilled mushrooms, jalapeno, lettuce, tomatoes and I believe I added BBQ sauce). It was a good sized burger and definitely bigger than the double double you'd get at In N Out. The star of the meal has to be the cajun fries. For about $2.50, they really hooked me up. My whole bag was filled with those fries and it was delicious. They were hot and crispy, and had the right bite of cajun seasonings. Definitely something I'll get again! Now, after thinking it over, my heart still belongs to In N Out if I want a burger that's cheap and good. However, with that said, Five Guys offers me an interesting option with their tasty fries and a solid burger. I had some pretty high expectations of this joint before I actually got to try something with those expectations, it's pretty rare that when one does try it....that their expectations are met. Five guys exceeded my expectations (even rarer), and I definitely think In & Out has some serious competition they need to be worried about, though 5 guys is also a bit more expensive for a burger fries and a drink, but to be honest the flavor was better, too The meat was better tasting with much larger patties, and the fries were natural cut, crisp, and more abundant, so I think its definetely is the better burger joint. I failed to order jalapenos since I was expecting pickled jalapenos, but turns out they are fresh jalapenos, so if you like spicy food, its a surprisingly tasty option. The employees here do take service and their jobs to a refreshingly helpful level as well--they were pleasant, helpful, and most importantly cheerful thru it all. I actually felt guilty that I dragged Elite yelper, Robin Z., here and forgot that she is for the most part a vegetarian, so now, I have dragged her to a burger joint with huge meat patties and a brazilian bbq-haha. Not to mention we met for the first time at Foggia for pastrami and philly cheese steaks, tho I did not coerce her to do that. This place is an acceptable alternative to In-n-Out, in fact better in some respects. The fries are better, in my opinion. I also like the fact that they serve hot dogs, but then they had to go and lose major points for not offering sauerkraut to go along with it. What exactly is up with that? If they had more locations, including some free-standing restaurants with drive-thru service, they would get more of my business. For now they are my favorite thing about the Carson Mall. Now that i've been more than once, I can proclaim that this place is awesome. Pricey but worth it once you actually finish eating. Don't think about cost till you eat. Then you will see that you would gladly pay twice as much. I won't get into specifics, well mainly because you have a load of reviews telling you the same thing, which is basically come have a burger and some peanuts. But you might have to wait a little, but don't worry, you'll need that hunger you are building up while you wait. And it might not be enough to truely tame the Five Guys Beast. read more

ugh... ive come here so many times the past couple years... when no one knew about this place.. but now that Zagat has for some reason named it better than in-n-out, everyone and their mom was here this weekend. one thing you really need to understand. there is nothing special about this burger. its a very average simple burger. it cannot be compared to in-n-out because theyre different types of burgers. in-n-out is the KING of their competitors... five guys does NOT stick out from their competitors... its just another burger joint lost in the sea of other burger joints. rather, this place DIRECTLY competes with the likes such as fatburger or your local stripmall mom-n-pop burger store. place like the counter, fathers office, hole in the wall, umami are on a higher tier than what this place serves. the beef is pretty plain... its just a patty. but the only way this burger is to have flavor is if you add all sorts of condiments on it. there is NOTHING special about this place, other than some dude finally decided to just franchise his rather average burger store... and then hype grew.... and it became what it is now. the story MUST be that... the only other explanation is that all burger joints in maryland suck ass, and sadly this place was the best of all of them. the only redeeming point about this place are the cajun fries. i would not have come here if it werent for my friends who heard about the Zagat hype and wanted to try it.... meh.... LIKES: cajun fries, lots of free condiments DISLIKES: its a burger you've been eating all your life... you know, from the place around the corner owned by some old couple. quality of the food: 5 stars... growing pains: minus 1 star. overall, I was more pleased than disappointed by my first visit to 5 guys' first venture in california. being a DC transplant I have always loved 5 guys and was waaaay excited when I heard they were beginning to franchise out west. after being a part of several in-n-out vs. 5 guys debates since moving out here with my California born and bred friends I was hoping against hope that my hometown burger institution wouldn't let me down. I'd be doing the new franchisee a disservice if I gave a whitewash review and allowed the fact that the burger was as good as it is back east keep me from 'keeping it real' and also point out what was a little lacking and what they need to work on in the weeks an months ahead in order to really deserve a full 5 stars. let's start with the good news... the burgers freaking slam... just as good as I remembered. I ordered the bacon cheeseburger with onions, lettuce, tomato, pickles, ketchup and mayo... I almost got what I ordered (more on that later). I also got a regular order of cajun fries.... with no drink it put me back just under $9... not cheap, but you could do worse and get a much weaker burger. know this, in-n-out is the only place that can touch 5 guys overall and i think you can dismiss anyone out of had that tries to con you into thinking you can even approach 5 guys quality at the carl's jr. or even the fatburgers of the world. dont' believe them. it's a crock. I arrived just after 11am (when they open) and was 4th in line... by the time l left at 11:45 the place was half full and there was a healthy line of folks waiting to order. clearly the first month is going pretty well and word of mouth (or simple curiosity) is taking hold. this should be a good sign. it took about 10 mins to get my sandwich and it was a great burger. except for the fact that they chose to swap my ketchup for mustard I was more happy with what I got. whatever the "5 guys" formula is that made it an east coast phenomenon, it translates well transplanted to LA. without starting an in-n-out vs. 5 guys debate here, I'll say this... both are top notch. they are different and I don't feel a need to proclaim that one is substantially better than the other. they are both great. what they need to work on... 1. where were my peanuts? they have a sign saying that there are peanuts available for patrons while they wait for their order (this is one of their hallmarks I remember from my DC days)... maybe I was there too early, but there is no excuse for advertising something that you don't' deliver on. not a peanut or peanut husk to be seen. 2. they got the order wrong.... It may be a small thing, but is it too much to expect that they know the difference between ketchup and mustard? come on, now.... 3. skip the bacon.... save the money and get just a regular cheeseburger.... I could see that the bacon was prepped beforehand and overcooked at that. then they just laid the strips cold on top of what was otherwise a near perfect sandwich. not worth the extra money to add the bacon. 4. disorganized (green) staff... this part is totally understandable, but I did want to make note that the teamwork in the place was definitely lacking. it was clear that the owner/manager was on site and it was a good thing he was... the staff was friendly and seemed to mean well, but the whole operation had a bit of a deer-in-the-headlights quality that I think lead to my order being incorrect and a tad slow. 5. the fries... better than most, not as good as some... they seemed to be both overcooked a bit and soggy... hard to figure out why... maybe the oil temp was a bit low.... but you gotta love the cheasapeake-style malt vinegar available to complement the fries... very east coast and a great touch. almost made up for the lacking execution. 6. location, location, location.... I must say that I wish the place wasn't so far from home.... for me, a trip to the south bay cost more in gas than the actual meal costs. I hear the next location will be in Cerritos... no closer for those of us near LA proper, in fact farther away. that said, I must admit that until there is a 5 guys closer by I feel I can get nearly as a good burger closer to home and my opportunity to frequent 5 guys will be few and far between. summary.... five guys Carson... you're almost there... keep working on it. I feel that many of my complaints can be corrected over time and that most of it can be written off to this being the first month in business and the first venture for this franchise in CA. I'll definitely be back and hope that I'll be able to add that fifth star soon... here's to you trying to give the sainted in-n-out chain a run for their complacent , living on their old reputation money... read more

When an east coast friend visited me in LA and tried In n Out for the first time and reacted with a "Meh, I'll stick to Five Guys" I looked back at her in horror...you. don't. like in 'n out?!?! :O I thought Five Guys was an east coast thing and searched their location to see one in Carson, Cerritos, etc!! Headed over to the Five Guys in Carson (right by Ikea!) and wow, why didn't I know about this place sooner? They received tons of awards and it has that hearty, home-cooked barbecue taste that you will love :) Regular hamburger/cheeseburger = double-double "Little hamburger" or "Little cheeseburger" = single patty I stuck to the LITTLE CHEESEBURGER and chose all the black bold lettered free toppings such as tomato, pickles, mushrooms, grilled onions, ketchup, mustard, and A-1 sauce whew! My bf got the regular (double-double) with basically the same toppings but BBQ sauce Stick to ONE order of CAJUN FRIES to share! It will be PLENTY! I love the thick potato cuts with plenty of spices on it--reminded me of Red Robin fries :D They don't have any shakes or anything but I was fine with my soda/raspberry iced tea. I wonder if Five Guys has a secret menu too haha. I have to give my east coast friend some credit...Five Guys is as good as In 'n Out in a different kind of way...can't wait to go back! read more

I went last night to check it out and have some fries but it was too salty and too soft to be called French fries.. very disappointed

good 'ol burgers and fries. i made a mini trip to carson to find out whether five guys was as good as i remembered it to be when i last ate it in DC. seeing the peanuts box next to the registers put a smile on my face, but i was a wee bit disappointed that the peanut shells hadn't made their way onto the floor yet. :) i ordered a small bacon cheeseburger, and my sister ordered a small cheeseburger. we got a small order of fries to share. there were literally ten people working this joint. all of them were super friendly, and seemed super excited to serve each and every customer. basically, great service. what i love about this place is all the different toppings that they offer FOR FREE! anything free is good, and it's GREAT when that something free is mushrooms, jalapenos, A-1, or grilled mushrooms on a burger. i pretty much got all the fixin's on my burger, and it was yummmm-y. the patties are made to order, and the buns at five guys are especially dough-y. the burger tastes very home-made, and that's home-made in a good way. what surprised me, though, were the fries! the steak fries were super good, and especially great with the malt vinegar. my only peeve about this place is its location. i'm still not sure why the owners decided to choose this locale - it really seems as though it belongs in weho or west LA, especially with its name value. with that, although i enjoyed myself a pretty hefty burger, i'm not sure if i'd drive out to carson for it. i'm sure there will be those "mmm, i feel like five guys" moments, but aside from those random cravings i probably won't be eating at five guys any time soon. for those who have never had five guys before, though, i'd recommend making it out. it's worthy of the comparisons people make it to the burgers of in n out. read more

After my good friend IRL, Sarah Beth S, made such a huge deal about Five Guys, I had to try it for myself. The comparison of In-n-Out fans to Scientologists caused me a good deal of pain and there has been much discussion on this point since. Thus, when my husband and I happened to find ourselves in Carson, we jumped at the chance to see what all the hype is about. I have to say, it is a hell of a burger! The patties are thick, juicy and definitely showcase the quality of the beef. They're big, messy beasts that require a 2-handed approach, a mouth opened wide, and many napkins to catch the juice that will inevitably dribble down your hands and chin. That said, I like a little seasoning in my burger, and here there was no real discernable seasoning on the beef. The rolls here are a little doughier then the typical burger bun and definitely of good quality. They're big and fluffy, and very pleasant at first, but by the end of my feasting experience, mine had grown a bit soggy. Ultimately, the bun couldn't quite stand up to the intense beefiness of their burgers. The wide array of toppings was definitely a very nice change of pace. The variety is excellent! My one note on this front would be that the jalapenos were cut too thick and served too raw for my taste. The fries too are excellent. They're thick and nicely crisped on the outside, and the serving amount is quite generous. I also like that they have malt vinegar on hand. On the fry front, they definitely have In-N-Out 's butt kicked. But returning to the debate at hand - burger v burger - I have to stand by my old favorite - the In-N-Out Animal Style burger. Arguably, the Five Guys burger might have a better patty and probably does beat out the regular In-N-Out Double-Double. However, for me there is just something magical about how an Animal Style burger comes together. The toasted bun, the thickness of the mustard grilled patties melting the cheese, and the toppings all come together in exactly the right proportions. All the elements and flavors blend together in just the right balance so that each note is distinct, and yet as whole, they create a perfect symphony of a burger. At Five Guys, the 2-patty burger is almost too much - at least for me. The beef's flavor is definitely up front and center, and it definitely could be considered a purist's burger. However, for me, by the end when bun had gotten a bit soggy and was melding together with the giant beef patties, it was a bit like holding a giant ball of meat and dough. That said, it really was a great burger and a welcome addition to the slate of fast food burgers available in Southern California. But were I forced to choose a cult, I remain and In-N-Out devotee. read more

i was never that crazy about in-n-out. like, when east-coasters tell me, "omg you have in-n-out" (less ditsy though) whenever i tell them how i love white castle. i guess this is supposed to be the in-n-out of the east coast. my friend from virginia told me about it before, so when i saw that this place opened i had to try it... SHUT UP YOU EAST COASTERS!!!! FIVE GUYS is sooooooo sooo sooo much better than IN-N-OUT. hands DOWN. can you say, grilled mushrooms STANDARD on your burger? and you can add bacon and stuff??? it's just so friggin good. the fries are 1000x better too. in n out turns into a mess after sitting out for awhile. (this is coming from a girl who has a video of her eating a 4x4). but at a recent beach picnic, someone brought 5guys burgers and it was good after being in the bag on a nice beach day for hours. the fries too. i actually can't stand non-welldone fries from in-n-out. they need to open more of this chain in the west LA area. and i wouldn't mind some white castle action either. dagnabit read more

I went to this place a while ago and I enjoyed my visit. I see that a lot of people compare this to In-N-Out but the only thing they really have in common is the red and white theme going on. Both places have very distinct flavors (burgers & fries) and they are both very gooooooooood. However, as a person who tends to be indecisive my first visit to 5-Guys was awkward because of the lingo they use for "everything" (lettuce, tomato, etc.) is "all the way" well I think it's "all the way" haha...What I like about In-N-Out because I can say #1 with grilled onions and that's it lol... I like this place. Brings a diversity of visitors to the South Bay Pavilion if you know what I mean... haha... Panera I'm sure has also helped with that and Ikea also lol read more

This place is grubbin'. The urge to compare it to In-N-Out is kind of hard to resist, but I only do so to say that I prefer this place. Sure, everyone loves a good In-n-Out burger complete with your very own scripture quote of the day on the bottom of the cups and burger bags, but I prefer a little more grease and love on my burger. The healthy in-n-out fries can also take a hike to soup plantation or some other crap restaurant where people go who care about their hearts and livers. Five Guys name kind of weirded me out at first, but the trip there was worth every single 20 minute LA stoplight. I'll be back. Everything we've tried on the menu was good. read more

Having sampled 5 Guys several times now, I have to say I am a fan. At first I was hesitant. Being a CA boy, I love In N Out. Who was this pretender from the east? Walking in the decor even looks very In N Out-ish, even the same colored white and red tiles. But there are some differences: 1. Peanuts- Yes free roasted and salted in shell, not a big deal, it is a nice touch. 2. The Fries, here is where I have an issue- The Cajun fries are awesome. But they only come in 2 sizes, Medium( really large serving enough for 2 and not cheap at $4 bucks) and a Large for $6. They are way too expensive and way too much for one guy. I f you go with a friend you can share, but I often stop by while working, and it is such a waste and way too expensive. 3. The Burger- Here is where 5 guys shines : Every burger is a double I think, because I always order a cheese burger and what i receive is a double. It is cooked perfectly every time, the meat is thicker, and the ingredients are very fresh. Just a great burger! The bun is soft and does not get in the way of the meat. 4. The prices are high. For a cheeseburger, medium fries( the smallest size they have see point 2) and a small soda, it cost me $11! Booo! way too expensive, and compared to In n Out, this seems way excessive. But I am judging on quality of food and not price. I love 5 guys and I love In n Out. read more

I first heard of 5 Guys in GQ, where they claimed it was the best $5 burger you could get. Obviously my interest was piqued. Much to my surprise, there was a location in the South Bay Pavillion right next to the Panera Bread. Pros: The burger was awesome. And it had bacon. You can't ever go wrong with bacon. You could clearly tell this was a level beyond regular fast food burgers, and really comparable to In-N-Out. This is tough for me to say as I've grown up with In-N-Out, but Five Guys' burger quality is on par. Cons (sort of): It ran me around $9 with a little burger, almost $10 with a regular burger for a combo with fries and a drink. That's a little on the pricey side for me, but certainly not outrageous if you're looking to dine in somewhere with friends. Also the fries are average, probably the only aspect where In-N-Out trumps them. Lastly, it gets pretty crowded at lunch time, though what place doesn't. If you get in at 11:00 am, no wait. All in all i'll definitely be going back to 5 guys just to taste their delicious burgers, and probably bring a friend to split the fries. read more

This place is rad! It's clean. The people are friendly. They have the biggest selection of condiments to put on your burger that i have seen in a while. The burgers are juicy and delicious. Basically, you can't go wrong at this place. I'm a lifelong socal guy, and as such I have been raised on in-n-out. For my entire existence it has been my favorite burger place. Nowadays when people say "let's go to in-n-out" I say: "I"m not gonna eat that crap...let's go to five guys where the food is actually good." I never thought that I would say no to an animal style burger, but it just doesn't cut it anymore. Do yourself a favor and order some cajun fries to go with the burger. I have eaten at the Five Guys in Alexandria, Virginia. Took us an hour to get there from Washington D.C. on the Metro. It remains one of the Best Hamburgers I have ever had. However Carson, California is just too far of a drive for a good burger. read more

I love these burgers, I remember the first time i had one was when i was visiting my sister in D.C. and i have always claimed it was the best burger for the $$. I wish we can rate service and price for quality separately b/c this place gets 5 stars for that. The people there are VERY friendly and always engage in nice conversation also seem just naturally good people. You have to be a good person from the heart and not fake it. The workers here are good people naturally. The reason why i do not give stars across the board is that i will there were another menu item such as chicken fingers or wings. We used ditch class to go to the original Five Guys in Arlington, VA (where I grew up) and whenever I go back to the DC area, Five Guys is a mandatory stop. Absolutely my favorite fast food burgers and fries. Me, I have the burger with lettuce, tomato, onion (sometimes grilled sometimes raw), relish and mustard. Combined with their fresh beef and yummy buns... Simply delish. They have free peanuts for those in line and while you are waiting for your food. Shells go on the floor like an old roadhouse. Now for the fries- Five guys makes boardwalk fries. Boardwalk fries were made famous by a little stand on the boardwalk in Ocean City, MD called Thrashers. On a summer evening the line could wrap around the block. These fries are fried in peanut oil which gives them a unique flavor. They are my favorite fries on the planet. These fries are meant to be drenched in malt vinegar. I don't know how this tradition was begun but it is simply the best! When I was in high school there were occasions that my friends and I would drive the three hours to the beach just for these fries. Once Five Guys opened, it was like a small miracle to be able to get those fries close to home. Then, I moved out to LA and the fries were one of those things that I truly missed. Now that Five Guys has come west I can savour those amazing fries once more! In my opinion, Five Guys blows the doors off of In-and-Out, Tommys and even Fatburger. I'm sure I will get flack for this statement but, taste for yourself. read more

Overrated burgers! Overpriced, In n Out tasts far better, and is 3 times less the price.

So I've been hearing all the hype about 5 guys that me and my boyfriend decided to finally try it. I think the burger was good. But there was nothing real special about it. The fries were good too. I liked the Cajun spice they put on them. Thumbs up on that. The environment was super dirty. The floors were a mess along with the table top. And the floor where the cooks cooked were all greasey. The only downfall is that i live so far from this place but it's better than going back to Virginia just to have it again lol. Anyways i had a Bacon Cheeseburger with the seasoned fries. Gotta love it, love the fact that you can put whatever toppings on it. Tastes great but it's more expensive than like in n out. Five Guys gets five F'n stars!!...This place makes amazing burgers. If you are a fan of In and Out, be prepared to send them to fast food Siberia. These burgers are cooked so perfectly that each bite melts in your mouth. The numerous selection of toppings allows you the opportunity to maximize mass flavor to your brilliant burger. I got a cheeseburger with grilled onions, mushrooms, green peppers, mayo, mustard, relish and BBQ sauce. Also, you can order cajun style fries (I highly recommend). These fries have a seasoned flavor that is like New Orleans exploded in your mouf. As an added bonus you can dip them in malt vinegar that is provided for your leisure and pleasure. Placed a big order with these guys for 10 custom burgers for a customer. Did this in person and even had the order confirmed back to me correctly. When I got back to the office and opened all the burgers not ONE of them was correct. This staff at this place has no idea what they're doing. We had heard a lot about this chain and gave it a try. Here is why we will not go back: 1. We were outside greeted with loud, intense music. We had to yell at each other to be heard, 2. Adding to that there were frequent loud shouts from the kitchen area 3. The price was much higher than In-N-Out for a comparable purchase.. 4. The burgers were sloppilly assembled 5 The oil that the fries were cooked in was old and yielded a soggy, dark brown mess. 6. The meat had no flavor and was obviously not salted 7. Using the eating area as a store room is not appealing and takes away much needed seating area. UUUGLY! 8. The chairs are very uncomfortable and too small for many adults. Overall the food is not distinctive. It is obvious ythey are appealing to certain demographics, but ours is not one of them. them..
