It was going to be our first time trying out food from this franchise. We came thirty minutes before closing which I know can be controversial in the food industry. As we approached the front door, we could visibly see the employees staring at us through the window unhappily. We went inside, and I proceeded to see a guy with a black plunger repeatedly hit the table behind the counter. He dropped it, and met us at the cashier counter with no smile on his face. I said "hello" to break the awkwardness, and he doesn't even respond. I told him nevermind, and decided to leave. As we're exiting the building, I heard another female worker jokingly say "I think you scared them away" which isn't the case. We just wanted to be courteous since it seemed we weren't welcome, and our food could've possibly been handled with resentment had we stayed. We ended up getting food at In-N-Out (W service), and we decided to drive by this location since it's in the same parking lot. How is it that I called ahead of time to confirm they wouldn't put cheese on a Plain burger and somehow they still managed to put cheese even when the lady confirmed they wouldn't. The food was a 7/10 but the price is a bit steep because everything is à la cart no combos. My first batch of fries were a bit on the salty side but I told the fries guy and he hooked me up with another batch thank you;) . But let's talk about the free peanuts:) I grew up eating roast peanuts with my grandfather and that was unique and totally different in a burger joint. I ordered a burger with bacon tomatoes lettuce onions and mustard my burger was thick and juicy and naturally flavorful but it needed a bit more seasoning. I added ketchup salt and pepper which made it taste better It was good but definitely not better than in and out ( I'm a tad partial ) but delicious all the same. To be fair: The patties are thicker as opposed to the thinner beef patties at in and out so that might be why there needs more seasoning to suit my taste. My mom died after a short illness 3/10/16 and my sisters and I share taking care of dad who has Parkinson's disease. Sitting and enjoying a meal with my dad after his doctor appointments are a must it gives is a chance to relax and talk and the coziness of this restaurant while enjoying a good meal makes spending time with dad a good thing we ate and the conversation flowed. TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE, everytime I come here. It's like this place only hires young teens because that's how all the employees act. Childish and unprofessional and very rude. And also unsanitary. I decided to try this place out after an east coast friend of mine kept talking smack about in-n-out burgers. So I thought to myself, "Why not? Especially since they just opened one up near me!" When I first tried Five Guys back in 2010 at the Cerritos location, I was not impressed. I think it had to do with all the hype. All I remember from my inaugural Five Guys experience was that the burger was a greasy soggy mess (call me a hater, but I detest soggy bread). I also remember ordering the Cajun fries which were basically overpriced French fries with seasoned salt. Anyhow, I was in the Carson area on a Thursday during lunch time and decided to give Five Guys one more try since I didn't feel like overpaying for meh-diocre food at the Farmer's Market they hold in the parking lot of the mall. Aside from the copycat color-theme eerily akin to another burger joint where a "hamburger's all about", I found their blatant self-promoting interior décor to be really annoying. I mean, this fucking shit is everywhere. From the walls that say "voted best burger" to the damn cups that say crap like "burger basics at its best" and voted "best French fries" by newspapers in San Antonio and Montana, you would expect their burgers to be manna from the gods. I ordered a basic single patty cheeseburger "all the way" which consisted of the first 8 toppings that they have to offer. Thus, my hand-pressed burger was topped with mayo, lettuce, pickles tomatoes, grilled onions, grilled mushrooms, ketchup, and mustard. I passed on fries because I remember them being really salty and since Men's Health called them some of the worst foods in America. Instead I got a handful of "complimentary" salted peanuts. Good thing I don't have a peanut allergy. This time around, my burger was not that soggy and I felt that the grilled mushrooms helped differentiate Five Guys from other fast-food hamburger restaurants. Unfortunately, another way that Five Guys is different is that the food is overpriced especially compared to that other burger chain without heat lamps that instead of boasting about how good they are has bible verses on their cups. And speaking of boasts, I don't know what the Washingtonian Magazine was thinking when they called them the Best Bargain from 2001 to 2007. Then again, the Washingtonian Magazine has stopped rating them since 2007. I dunno, maybe it's just me, but just because you add grilled fungal spores does not justify overcharging for a burger that is slightly better than Wendy's. So yeah, a single patty cheeseburger and a regular drink came out to about $7 without fries... I guess those peanuts weren't free after all. So, aside from sounding weird, i.e "I'm eating Five Guys for lunch", I don't think I will be back especially since I can go to a better, humbler, bargain burger joint in town. This was my first time going to any Five Guys. I've heard good things about them, so I was looking forward to my burger. I ordered the little hamburger with lettuce, tomato, grilled onions, grilled jalapeños, extra grilled mushrooms, mayo, and ketchup. I was thoroughly excited. The wait for my mobile order wasn't bad.. about 6 minutes. I took my burger home and got settled in to eat. The first thing I noticed was that they use canned mushrooms. Yo. Canned mushrooms should be labeled hazardous and should carry a mandatory prison sentence if you're caught with them. They're rubbery and have no flavor whatsoever. The worst part is that fresh mushrooms are not even that expensive. I'd rather eat a whole turkey from a can than look at canned mushrooms. Okay, that's not true, but you get my point. If you're going to charge $6+ for a burger, I expect fresh ingredients. Enough about the mushrooms. I'd forgotten that I'd even ordered grilled jalapeños because I didn't taste any. The grilled onions weren't grilled enough for my liking. The overall flavor of the burger was good, but less than halfway into eating it, it started to fall apart. I don't think they toast the buns, which they absolutely should. Other than that, if I convince myself that burgers are supposed to be sloppy, it wasn't too bad. Sunday 6/1/08 (3 of 3) Immediately after the Metromix (http://losangeles.metromix.com/) party at the W, it was finally time to go to the much anticipated tasting of Five Guys. It was a good idea to put some food into my body after drinking two mojitos with an ice cream and cookie filled stomach. I don't know if it was the over-hype of this place or if my frequent visit to a nearly islands restaurant, I guess I should've probably known from Tony C's review of this place, it wasn't quite up to my burger standards. I'm not going into details here but the burger was just aiight. It wasn't messy like I had imagined it. It was juicy, but tasted undercooked and unsalted. However, the salt guy went crazy over the fries. I think 2 stix of salty fries was more than enough for my daily salt allowance. BTW, texture and and first taste of these fries were good, slightly better than Inn and Out but still not better than Islands. Some non food notes I like to point out here that may interest you: This place is a bit hidden since there are no large signs, but not hard to find. There are no napkin holders here, you will have to request it. I didn't even get any inside my bag. I'm sure it was a cost reduction measure. They put everything in a brown bag. I thought that was kind of cool,reducing waste at all but then realized the fries are all over the inside of the bag,might not be a great idea for long trips. The floor they have here, I'm not sure if its ceramic tile but it slips! I wore my dress shoes and I've almost slipped twice, watch out near the drink and condiment station.
